Reviews for Castle Inn
Review 1:Unfortunately the only thing that let this down, was the type of clientele it attracts in the bar early evening. I would advise staying here but trying a different pub in the early evening, and return for a later drink.
Review 2:Staff and accommodation very agreeable.
Review 3:The rooms makeovers have transformed the place. Our room was beautifully decorated, spacious and more than comfortable. With a sweet, romantic little nook in the same room - perfect
Review 4:We have stayed at the castle on several occasions, and this being my wife birthday, then I couldn't fault the stay!! .....great place, great atmosphere and local to everything we like!
Review 5:There is a really warm welcome at the Castle Inn and rooms are of very high quality, following recent refurbishment. High-end hotel quality. Very comfortable indeed, and the breakfast was to a high standard. Ideally located right in the historic town centre.
Review 6:We visited as a family and actually booked out the whole inn. The purpose of the visit was to celebrate my parents Ruby Wedding anniversary with a visit to Chatsworth at Christmas and to visit the beautiful town of Bakewell. My sister and I had stayed before but it had changed hands since then. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable having been recently refurbished. The breakfast is amazing and well worth staying for - would definitely set you up for a few miles if the purpose of your visit was cycling or walking in the gorgeous surroundings. The meals in the castle were also very good value for money, typical English pub food.
Review 7:Guiness was spilt upon getting it served at the table and did bring this to johns attention to rectify this for future customers.
Review 8:Landlord John was very obliging and staff went the extra mile. The photos did not do the room justice and suggested updating them to John.
Review 9:Smokers lined up at the front door to the pub - disgusting.
Review 10:This lovely old pub was right in the heart of town. The room was comfortable and unbelievably quiet considering the position of the hotel on a very busy street ( during the day)
Review 11:Bathroom floor was filthy - literally covered in hair, obviously hadnt been cleaned properly.
Review 12:Good location, staff very friendly and helpful. Pub itself very good value food and drink.
Review 13:We thought traffic noise might be an issue but it did not materialise.
Review 14:Very comfortable clean room, friendly staff and good food and beer in the bar/restaurant. Good location in the town with free parking on site albeit on a small car park so spaces may not always be available.
Review 15:breakfast not included would rather pay more to start with, no view from room apart from a air conditioning unit, noisy as near kitchen
Review 16:perfect location, staff friendly, comfortable bed
Review 17:large comfy family room with a large bed each ideal for me and my sister very good staff, only too happy to help and with a smile. good food at very good prices and house wine good too.
Review 18:We booked a double room when in fact we were given 2 single beds strapped together with a big ridge down the middle
Review 19:The room we had has just been refurbished so everything was spotless. Food was good value and delicious
Review 20:The bathroom and bedroom floors were not clean. I asked for them to be cleaned and found that the bedroom carpet had been hoovered but the bathroom floor was still not clean. We felt sorry for the barman who was on his own and responsible for running the bar, taking out food and booking people into the accommodation. The tables outside were piled high with empty drinks and crockery as he understandably didn't have time to clear them. We decided to have our evening meal elsewhere because of this. We had to cancel our breakfast and go elsewhere because it was not served before 8.30am and therefore not suitable for business guests.
Review 21:The room was lovely.
Review 22:It wasn't clear where to book in, we came through the bar from the carpark, so wasn't sure if it was the bar or if there was a reception area on the other side. Also a couple of the staff seemed abit abrupt but others were ok, including the chief who did the breakfast and it was very nice.
Review 23:Room was nicely decorated and clean
Review 24:Parking was not very good as the guest were left to struggle for spaces with other shop workers, paying guest should have reserved spaces!
Review 25:Location, comfort and pleasant surroundings.
Review 26:Did not know where to check in. No sign outside. Felt very silly standing at a crowded bar with a suitcase and suits in hand. Staff said hold on I am just serving customers. The check in is far too casual. It gives a bad impression. The breakfast menu has no choice.
Review 27:The comfort of the beds. Quietness in room. Cleanliness. Bedding. The rooms are not above the pub,and large. I would make this clear on the website, it's very important. Car park.
Review 28:No toiletries in room, perhaps an oversight in a B&B from me but I travel a lot and have got used to this so rarely pack my own shower gel. No toiletries at this hotel though so take your own.
Review 29:Nice modern comfortable rooms, really good big bed.
Review 30:Understaffed on arrival and throughout busy times. Staff complaining about being over worked and management to locals.
Review 31:Rooms had just been refurbished. Fantastic facilities and great breakfast.
Review 32:Everything , recently refurbished room to an excellent standard , friendly staff , great food and lovely atmosphere in pub , we will definitely return.
Review 33:Friendly staff, large room.Local pub in the middle of a small town, so local feel and colour. Proximity to Chatsworth House, the purpose of our visit.
Review 34:Staff were very friendly. Room large and comfortable for lots of luggage. Lovely little town with lots of locals in the pub. Handy to Chatsworth, the purpose of our visit.
Review 35:The room and some of the decor are a little tired and could do with some tlc
Review 36:Located in the centre of town with comfortable room, very good service and staff and good inexpensive food and beer.
Review 37:The bathroom was a little dirty but nothing unbearable. Did not hinder our stay at all.
Review 38:Very friendly staff and a fantastic location. Would most definitely stay again. Very comfortable bed, within walking distance of shops, pubs and beautiful sites to visit.
Review 39:Bathrooms could do with a bit of TLC otherwise the rooms where excellent .
Review 40:Everybody was very welcoming .The beds where very comfortable .The breakfast was excellent set up for the day.
Review 41:Staff friendly the room was la good size. We joined in the pub quiz in the evening and won! Breakfast was cooked by the manager Gary who was very nice. Breakfast was really good.
Review 42:Nothing!
Review 43:It was our second stay and the pub and b&b has a lovely warm feeling to it with caring staff, thank you to claire and the very welcoming chef ? Gary, whom we still haven't asked his name! You are both wonderful at what you do and we would like you to know we are very proud of how you have made us feel welcome on both occasions! Our parents absolutely loved their stay! Well done! Our son was delighted to be given the opportunity to feed the two dogs a treat after breakfast! Thank you. .barry, wendy & joshua xxx
Review 44:The bathrooms are a bit tired and could do with an upgrade.
Review 45:Location was great and staff very friendly. Breakfast was first rate. The place is very dog friendly
Review 46:The wrong towels and a cracked hand basin gave a poor first impression, but the towels were replaced as soon as we mentioned it and a cracked basin, well, it's not a disaster is it? There wasn't anything else all weekend.
Review 47:Great staff, very friendly and responsive. Good food in the pub, including the breakfast, and a wonderful location. Surprisingly quiet at night too, and comfy bed.
Review 48:Nothing, the room was a little dated but perfectly OK for one night.
Review 49:The food was very good. The breakfast in particular was excellent, best scrambled eggs ever tasted!
Review 50:Around the skirting's hadn't been hovered, there were cob webs on the ceiling and the net curtain was worn. The bathroom needed a make over too. There was no Wi-Fi available in the room which is the reason we choose this accommodation.
Review 51:Food (we had dinner as well as breakfast and it was faultless) and the staff were very friendly.
Review 52:I didn't feel the bathroom was as clean as it should be and it definitely needs a face lift
Review 53:The staff were friendly and the service was good . Had both evening meals there and enjoyed both of them.
Review 54:Miserable staff, no breakfast til after 9.00am on both days! Bed not a proper double, two singles wedged together with big ridges round both mattresses and one bed being lower that the other! Dirty bathroom, I had to clean other people's pubic hair out of the bath. Bathroom in need of a severe makeover very basic and dated.
Review 55:Location.
Review 56:Our room could have been a little cleaner but this was not enough to be a problem.
Review 57:staff were friendly and helpful. Food very good. Large comfortable room.We will come here again.
Review 58:Nothing at all
Review 59:Excellent location for walking the monsal trail. Accomodation very good, clean, good sized room, comfortable bed, towels changed every day. Food in the pub was very good value for money and the breakfast was excellent. Staff all very friendly.
Review 60:We enjoyed our stay but the room needs some attention the curtains fell down when closed. The shower needs replacing it was not very good.
Review 61:Location was fantastic. The staff were good.
Review 62:Everything! From the free parking and wifi to the pleasant courteous staff to the nice clean, comfortable, cosy room to the lovely food to the nice, relaxed atmosphere in the bar restaurant, all leading to a very enjoyable stay.
Review 63:I don't like shower curtains (but that's a personal thing and the shower curtain was clean).
Review 64:nice breakfast, quiet room, right in the centre of Bakewell.
Review 65:The live music in the bar was a bit loud for our taste, even in the restaurant area. But that's just us being picky!
Review 66:Our room was a good size, comfortable and quiet. Good free car parking facilities were appreciated. Didn't have time to try the breakfast unfortunately.
Review 67:The room had everything we could need. Had dinner and breakfast at the castle and both were faultless- every staff member we came across was very friendly and helpful-bed comfy and room nice and warm-would definitely stay again
Review 68:The absolutely filthy bedroom layers of dirt /dust all around the room and inches thick dust under the bed and furniture the bathroom was full of black mould in the tiles and very old unclean fittings
Review 69:The breakfast
Review 70:Slightly pricey but nothing over the top!
Review 71:Central location with all amenities that you need to be able to relax! Staff have a wonderful politeness and respect that all customers wish for. It helped me and my wife feel more at home!
Review 72:Absolutely no complaints, will be staying there again soon!
Review 73:Great location, superb breakfast served up by a good and friendly chef, good pub with good atmosphere.
Review 74:bathroom sink was cracked bathroom had no window, so an extractor fan would be a good idea
Review 75:efficiency and friendliness of staff cosiness of room variety of shops and cafes
Review 76:Can't find fault with anything
Review 77:The castle inn is in a great location , we had a large room with a comfortable bed and a bathroom, we had an evening meal which was lovely and the service and atmosphere was great , breakfast was really nice and great value for money. We will definitely stay there again
Review 78:There's nothing not to like and we hope to be able to experience it all over again as soon as possible!!!
Review 79:Castle Inn is perfectly located at the edge of Bakewell with own car park, making access to the lovely village as well as surrounding areas very comfortable. Staff is very helpful and the whole atmosphere is really friendly and peaceful. We also liked the comfortable and clean room with good bed. And of course a proper meal with a pint or two:-) Well all in all we loved everything about our week away from London!!!
Review 80:I was in room 4 witch I think was over the kitchen I had early night as I had to be up early but the noise coming from the kitchen was very loud
Review 81:the staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 82:The room is dated and is long over due a refurbishment or even a coat of paint. I was a little surprised to be served frozen chips with our main meal. I would have thought they would have served home made chips.
Review 83:Our room was very spacious and warm.
Review 84:Everything...the Castle is a lovely, homely place with a great atmosphere. We had lunch on our arrival which was great and a combination of Pate and a Cheeseboard for tea...All good!! The room was was warm, clean and comfortable.
Review 85:Needs attention to detail in the rooms, curtains need an iron, cracked cups, torn menus and towels
Review 86:Friendly Staff, Great Food inc excellent vegetarian option, awesome breakfast. Fantastic Location in a Traditional Pub with flair popular with the locals
Review 87:Window had gaps where cold air could get in. Toilet very close to shower.
Review 88:Good atmosphere. Good room and ensuite. Very nice staff. Good breakfast.
Review 89:Room could have been cleaner and was not serviced on the second day of stay.
Review 90:Atmosphere,bar and waiting Staff excellent ,food and beer very good. room very comfortable and bed linen and towels excellent.
Review 91:Nothing
Review 92:The friendliness of the management & staff. They couldn't do enough to make our stay pleasurable. The location is fantastic and plenty to do in the town area. The food in the bar was exceptionable, good prices, special offers, drinks good prices. The scrambled egg for breakfast was amazing.
Review 93:stayed here for the night whilst meeting up with some friends, fantastic place right in the heart of bakewell. Breakfast was excellent as was our evening meal. Will definately be returning :-)
Review 94:We went in early winter and the pub was a bit draughty and cold.
Review 95:Really good location right in Bakewell, good pub food and hearty breakfast (which cost extra). People were great.
Review 96:Had a lovely long weekend at The Castle. So cosy sat in the bar in front of the real fire with good beer and wine to drink and watch the world go by out of the window. Smack in the middle of Bakewell on the bridge. Love the Pub, great Staff and the room was very comfortable. Cant wait to stay again. Plenty to do for a long weekend in Bakewell with a good range of shops and Pubs and restaurants and lovely walks along the river. This was our fourth visit to Bakewell but first stop at the Castle but we would definitely stay at The Castle again. Thank you. Mrs. N Martin
Review 97:Nets at window had many holes in them. Skirting boards/carpet areas thick with dust as were plug sockets. Strip light in bathroom over sink didn't work.
Review 98:The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful, really nice people. Breakfast was very good, best bacon ever. Bathroom was clean, bedding was nice and white.
Review 99:Stayed for just one night, great location, comfy bed. Had food in the pub as well which was delicious! Couldn't fault our stay at the Castle Inn one bit.
Review 100:One of the mattresses on the bed was past its best but when I informed staff shey say new ones are in order so hopefully your stay will be more comfortable.
Review 101:Great location. In the town with it's own car park. They could not reserve us a space but we had no problem finding a space. Food in the pub was great value with their 2 meals for £9.99.
Review 102:Wi-fi not working the staff said it was hit and miss if it worked
Review 103:The service was always good. The staff very helpfull. Central to the centre of town. Would stay again.
Review 104:Had no access to WiFi. The ensuite bathroom could do with a revamp, the sink had a big crack in it.
Review 105:The staff were really friendly and helpful. The pub is central in Bakewell, has a carpark and is easy to get to. The food is excellent.
Review 106:Bed was hard. Food was not good. I ordered lasagne but thought it was more like a cottage pie. Breakfast, didn't get all we ordered, coffee was weak. But pub was busy so I guess some people were happy with food.
Review 107:Location was good. Accommodation was good but bed too hard.
Review 108:The bed and bathroom were very clean but the room generally could have done with a spring clean.
Review 109:Location was excellent and the staff were helpful .would definitely return . Good value for money
Review 110:Bathroom could do with re-grouting, otherwise, very happy!
Review 111:Great value. The Inn is right in the centre of Bakewell with its own parking, food was excellent value, staff were very friendly, room was big and comfortable, all in all, very pleased
Review 112:The location in town has its downside as it is on a busy road junction. Our room although not facing the road had some sort of noisy fan underneath the window , perhaps an extractor for the kitchen. There was supposed to be free Wifi but I had to sign up to a service called The Cloud with all the annoying demands for passwords, email address and lucky numbers. It didn't work anyway so I gave up. The bathroom had an awkwardly positioned glass shelf which resulted in me cutting my forehead.
Review 113:In town centre of Bakewell. Staff were friendly. Place was clean. We only ate breakfast which was good. The room was comfortable but on the small side.
Review 114:Acommadation - bed was clean, furniture was stained down the front of the chest of drawers, bathroom was not clean. scruffy shower curtain.
Review 115:The bar areas were good and the food was very good also parking facilities..Substantial breakfast
Review 116:Room needed a bit of tlc
Review 117:We particularly liked the friendly staff who gave a good service even at very busy times. The Castle Inn is in a great location, just a very short walk from all the Bakewell shops and sights. The Inn had a good menu with something for everyone, including a choice of 2 meals for under £10 (just). It provided tasty pub food at good prices. The accommodation had its own front door and was very quiet (even on a Saturday night) and was away from bar areas.
Review 118:Great location, only a quick overnight last minute stay, but great location, did not stay for breakfast, so cannot comment on the food, but good night in the bar as it was quiz night, made to feel welcome by the locals and joined in the quiz with them, would stay again and hopefully stay for breakfast.
Review 119:bathroom tiles could do with re-grouting. Shame they don't serve a continental breakfast as well as cooked but Lime Lounge over the road was lovely.
Review 120:Comfy good sized room. Tea, coffee and biscuits replenished. Excellent location. Pubs meals very good value.
Review 121:Hugely friendly staff, fantastic central location with everything walkable. Large, comfortable, clean room and delicious breakfast made from locally-sourced produce. Highly recommended.
Review 122:although we would recommend castle inn it would only be to dine there as theaccommadation needed desperately decorating and the bath was offputting and needs attention where it is unclean-a shame as the room had such potentiall
Review 123:staff were extremely nice food was brilliant -location and parking great
Review 124:Bathroom was a little tired could do with an update
Review 125:Staff were very friendly and helpful rooms were large and clean food was excellent, location was perfect for a visit to Bakewell parking was easy and very close to hotel
Review 126:Room looked dusty and grubby round the edges. Catch on sash window loose, window didn't close properly. Mould around bath spoilt look of bathroom. It is a pity that all that was really lacking was a good clean of the paintwork, a thorough dusting and the mould removed from the bathroom. It would look a different place I feel.
Review 127:Clean comfortable bed and pillows. Good sized room. Tea and Coffee making facilities. Room lights, drawers and wardrobe space. Separate access from the pub. Private parking next to pub. Ideal spot for seeing Bakewell on foot.
Review 128:The decor was very tired, in need of a redecoration and the bathroom updating, but was pleasantly presented.
Review 129:The spacious bedroom was a delight as we took with us our jack russell dog and had plenty of room for her bed, but the kingsize bed we slept in was a delight, so comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and was made most welcome by the friendly and efficient staff. Brilliant location opposite the riverside walk which we took before breakfast which was a good start to the day, food very good.
Review 130:The furnishings were a bit tired, the sash window was grubby, and the bathroom had mould on the ceiling due to inadequate ventilation.
Review 131:The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was very central, and there was free parking for residents. The bar, in the evening, was busy with locals. The room was spacious with plenty of storage space if you were staying longer. It was very quiet at night, despite our room overlooking the road. Breakfast was excellent, both from the point of view of service and the quality of the food and coffee. Dogs are allowed!
Review 132:Location was great, nice friendly staff. Ate in the pub one evening which was really good and enjoyed two lovely breakfasts served with a smile. Went for a few days away to celebrate a birthday and had a really lovely stay. Thank you.
