Reviews for St Michaels Hotel & Spa

Review 1:expensive room small, uncomfortable bed. long blonde hair in my meal, staff too preoccupied to speak to as they appeared very stretched coping with what was, in all fairness, a very busy night

Review 2:the staff were very friendly

Review 3:Dead spider in the room. Pool was dirty Hot tub not hot or had bubbles Was there for a xmas party, two chefs arguing outside using very strong language! Dropping the "c" word a lot not overly impressed No eggs at breakfast and couldn't sit with people from a different room as we would of liked

Review 4:Lovely location

Review 5:In the morning the maids were very noising chatting in the hallways, at times when its quite likely that some guests were still not awake. That is the reason for rating the staff lower than I would have liked, which is a shame because everyone else was extremely polite, helpful, efficient and considerate.

Review 6:I had a small twin room, which was great in every respect. It was booked late (the day before) and therefore at a very good price, but the quality exceeded expectations of a low price room, everything was excellent, as it had been on two previous visits.

Review 7:Would have preferred to have been in main building and not separated as we were. Staircase in this building needed a clean.

Review 8:Nice enough room, comfortable. Good views.

Review 9:We were disappointed with room location and size, it was very clean but small basement type room with twin beds and we wanted at least a double bed. We checked into another hotel as they did not have an alternative room.

Review 10:It was the right hotel for us in the right location with great views and friendly reception staff.

Review 11:The location. The food was very good too. Personal service with phone calls to clarify our booking etc. We joined in the New year's eve celebrations and would go again.

Review 12:Excellent staff without exception. Good breakfast choice and quality. Excellent spa. We stayed in the smallest room type which was good for an overnight stay but I would recommend a larger room for any longer.

Review 13:Lovely restaurant with great views but we never got seated in the window for any of our meals throughout our stay. In the evening, there was a very restricted number of choices and there was no a la carte or specials available so that made it hard to find something appealing. On one occasion, one of the main choices was unavailable by 8.15pm which left only 2 choices plus the vegetarian option. We didn't find the kitchen very accommodating in helping out with any better options. Most staff were great but unfortunately, we had a couple of poor experiences which did adversely affect our stay. The other issue we found was that there were a lot of people coming into the hotel to use the gym and pool. This means that the lockers were all full, the steam room and sauna was rammed and the gyn quite a crowded space. On our last day there were 30 people in the pool for aqua aerobics so we couldn't use the pool before checking out. Most of these users drive to the hotel which has very limited parking so this was another difficulty. When you are spending £600+ for a 2 night break, you don't really want these issues.

Review 14:Attractive decor and very clean with lovely views. Our room was small room but that's to be expected as they are in a premium location right next to the beach. But the furnishings, cushions, sheets, towels, hairdryer etc were all of a high standard.

Review 15:Friendly staff, especially Joseph who was very charming serving at dinner. Our daughter had an interview at Falmouth Uni for Animation & he gave some great advice which was very welcome. Food was lovely as was our room with sea views. Also it is a great location.

Review 16:Breakfast let things down, cold bacon and dried up eggs. Day 2 eggs better but bacon still cold. Simple solution reposition under heat. Staff should have been on top of this .

Review 17:Staff very attentive and helpful.

Review 18:If I had any problem with this hotel, which I didn't as we were rarely there, it would be the size of the room. We obviously had the economy type room, but it was very small.

Review 19:Warm & comfortable with very pleasant helpful staff. Excellent breakfast & good sea views.

Review 20:There was insufficient staff to cope with the full hotel and guests waiting to be served at the bar, the young lady bar staff were doing their best, but help should have been given as we had a long wait amongst others, my Husband had to request help for the bar staff , this should been requested in house, not by a guest.

Review 21:Large comfy bedroom. Good food.

Review 22:contracted food poisoning from the restaurant and was told that it was impossible to contract food poisoning within 24 hours but not to use the facilities or public areas as a result.

Review 23:The only bad thing was the man who was looking after the resturant he was very aggorant and abrupt but the rest of the staff in there were fantastic and made up for his poor people skills.

Review 24:The rooms are really big and the pool is awesome as well as the gardens it is a 20 minute walk into the heart of town which is an easy walk even after a few ales.

Review 25:No heating after 21:30 and bathroom always freezing cold and ran with condensation when bathing or showering. The corridor on which the room was located was also cold but the adjoining corridor to reception was always warm!

Review 26:Room size and position.

Review 27:Very noisy floor boards from room above. Sounded like someone was about to fall through the roof. Tiny room no space to move about. Smelt cigarette smoke coming into room from outside. When I advised staff at checkout they just said well its an old building so much for relaxing day spa??????

Review 28:not much

Review 29:It is not clear from the directions that there is a steep slope down at the Falmouth Town train station, followed by a walk up a steep hill with my luggage. Its also not clear from the directions and map where the entrances to the hotel are located - I think the directions for walking to the hotel could be better, but this is my only, very minor, complaint.

Review 30:Very good with my mutiple allergies, so I could actulaly have breakfast! I was also able to leave my dry things in a locker at the spa while I went for a swim in the sea. Its a short walk to the sea from there, it was wonderful.

Review 31:We were put into Room 17. Unfortunately there was an air conditioning unit outside of the room which kept us awake all night. The next morning we told the Manager about this and he immediately put us into another room.

Review 32:The food was delicious. The beds were extremely comfortable. There was lots of hot water for a nice bath.

Review 33:The restaurant was really good value for money and the choice was excellent. All the staff were incredibly helpful and the service we experienced from check in to check out was exceptional.

Review 34:The room was quite noisy I could hear what I think was the gym downstairs, people upstairs, other guests banging in the hallway and walking past the window. The noise seemed to stop around 12am but it wasn't great trying to get to sleep. The spa area (pool, sauna etc) were dirty and not up to the standards of the rest of the hotel.

Review 35:Comfy bed, friendly receptionist and a free upgrade! The room was clean and had robes and slippers with nice tea and coffee facilities.

Review 36:Restaurant food not to my taste and seemed overpriced. Bar food better but not much choice.

Review 37:Quiet comfortable room with a sea view. Good breakfast. Relaxing spa. Marvellous location.

Review 38:The room was extremely disappointing. Although we booked a small double, we did not expect it to be as small as it was. It felt like we were walking down under the deck! The windows looked out onto brick walls and the bathroom, although functional was also tiny. The staff were polite but clearly forgot our breakfast order on our second day. We were waiting for almost an hour with little apology when we chased it up. I am not normally someone who complains, but I did feel this hotel was over-priced, I think you definitely pay for the location above anything else.

Review 39:The location of the property is excellent with a superb view from the restaurant. There was a good choice for breakfast and the food in general was very good.

Review 40:The spa was rather busy. Too many people using the facilities - not enough lockers. Nowhere to sit on the poolside.

Review 41:The staff were lovely. Really friendly and caring. We were very well looked after. The decor was beautiful and the furnishings high quality.

Review 42:The bedroom was very small. Although decorated and furnished well, there was too much furniture for the size of the room making it difficult to get to the wardrobe with a chair in front of it. A single door wardrobe would suffice in such a small room. The bed was short and our feet hung off the end.

Review 43:Lovely hotel, great location with sea views at breakfast which were stunning over the sub-tropical garden. Very short walk to the beach (about 3 mins) and the town centre and castle about 10-15 mins walk in different directions. Staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming at all times and helpful when we arrived a little early to get us to our room as soon as they could. Nice, relaxing decor with a seaside theme. Overall a great hotel and I would stay there again.

Review 44:They do list disabled facilities but that's not strictly true - although the staff did everything they could to ensure that we could access all facilities at the hotel. They even changed our room last minute to accommodate us.

Review 45:I was traveling with my elderly Mum who struggles to get around. The staff were just wonderful and went to great lengths to provide the best service with wonderful smiles! Amazing food and the spa was such a lovely experience.

Review 46:Parking was interesting

Review 47:Loved the public area décor and the view from the restaurant. Food was superb and staff were friendly, efficient and effective.

Review 48:Room 40 Noisy Small people looking in window as passing Told these were regular rooms

Review 49:Because we booked via website gave us inferior room laundry outside all day asked if we could be upgraded but the price was ridiculous We were looking for a venue for a Pipline company This will not be it!

Review 50:We are dog lovers but we had dogs barking in our accomodation for two hours one evening and then howling from 8am on the Sunday morning. I wouldn't expect this in a premier inn, never mind an expensive hotel. Our room was very small- we were not in the hotel,as booked but in a separate building, terrible water pressure in the shower. Overall a very disappointing hotel that was overpriced.

Review 51:Spa facilities, staff, good breakfast

Review 52:All the staff were friendly and helpful. The décor was fresh and appropriately nautical, and my room was very comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious 0- a proper freshly cooked breakfast - smoked haddock, poached egg and spinach - delicious! The conference I was attending went very well so an excellent choice of hotel.

Review 53:Some of the staff just had to smile occasionally. Cocktail bar was lacking in experienced staff.

Review 54:Design and layout of hotel. Single room was well thought out and had everything you would need. Comfortable lounges to relax in.

Review 55:The food quality and presentation was excellent. The hotel is proprietor owned and run. Great attention to detail. The bar/lounge area has a bright fresh feel and fits perfectly with its seafront location.

Review 56:Dirty Laundry was left all day outside our room. The spa membersmonopolise the spa and pool area. Bar staff couldn't make asimple coffee..

Review 57:Situated perfectly near the beach and a short walk from Falmouth town.Fantastic breakfast.!.

Review 58:Everything. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful, rooms clean & light & excellent food. Have stayed here several times and have always had excellent service.

Review 59:Need more Spa staff - they don't have enough staff to cope with demand. Wouldn't recommend the single rooms - far too small. On site parking is a problem.

Review 60:Lovely staff!

Review 61:MAYBE THE STRONG SMELL OF FISH. BUT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WITH A FISH RESTAURANT.

Review 62:I LIKED THE LOCATION. MY DAUGHTER BOOKED THE HOTEL BECAUSE SHE WAS MOVING DOWN FOR A UNIVERSITY COURSE. WE BOTH LIKED THE HOTEL AND THE FRIENDLINESS.

Review 63:Bedroom too noisy on the above landing and one night we had a buzzing noise until 2am which we we very disappointed about. Your manager seemed surprised about the noise so I would suggest letting him stay there for a night!! Room 43.

Review 64:Location, friendly staff, good parking, good gym and swimming pool.

Review 65:All chairs and carpet in restaurant had stains and marks, just looked awful and unclean, breakfast was not very good cold sausage, sauna was not working, swimming pool cold! Had to wait 15 mins to check out then they tried to charge us for evening meal which we didn't have. Just disappointed.

Review 66:Location and beds were great.

Review 67:First room we were giving but was changed no problem

Review 68:Swimming views lovely deco friendly staff this was for our sons grauations somethink a little special

Review 69:The friendly and helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Very good food , dinner was reasonably priced and very yummy, breakfast was just delicious and the dining room was a lovely place to eat it . It did help that the weather was beautiful for my short stay. Even my small room had a view of the sea. Altogether a lovely stay, thank you.

Review 70:I particularly booked at this hotel to have some spa treatments. Unfortunately I was only able to have one as all was fully booked and the only time available was at 8.00pm. The treatment should have been 1 hour 10 but I was only able to have an hour.

Review 71:The location is fantastic and easy access to the beach

Review 72:Didn't like our room that much - it was called "large sea view room" - but it was not our idea of large and felt very tight in terms of space. Also, its proximity to next door made their comings and goings very intrusive and was a bit noisy at night.

Review 73:Excellent team of staff - at all levels. Friendly and courteous throughout. Warm welcome on arrival. Dinner in the restaurant was a real surprise - fantastic chef, imaginative menu and very good quality food presented beautifully.

Review 74:Some of the staff could have been a bit friendlier and a little bit more on the ball, especially during the breakfast service which appeared a little bit disorganised.

Review 75:The location was excellent being right on the beach and a short walk into town. Good facilities and lovely, comfortable room.

Review 76:The reception lady that dealt with us was not very welcoming. Often had to wait because she was standing by the sliding doors messing about and giggling with whoever was behind - not very professional. This was the case both on check in and check out. Although we booked a cabin room I didn't realise quite how pokey it would be, was below ground level with tiny windows right at the top of the walls, found it rather cloustraphobic.

Review 77:Restaurant/bar staff were absaloutely fantastic, in particular Will, Toby and Gem ( whose first shift it was). Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were a pleasure to be served by! Spa also lovely and the location of the hotel great right by the beach.

Review 78:Breakfast times not good, had to order room service and couldn't order hot food with that option. Plus it cost an extra £4 for room service which was annoying as I didn't have a choice!

Review 79:Comfortable, clean, excellent spa!

Review 80:Room a little small for the price, and lacking in some amenities. At this price point I would expect a mini-bar, robes, and bathroom amenities such as cotton balls etc. None of those items were provided. Also the parking lot was often filled.

Review 81:Friendly staff, modern/nautical style interiors, beautiful gardens. Lovely breakfast.

Review 82:We could hear the people staying in the next room talking, and their TV and if they used a plug socket.

Review 83:Our meal at The Flying Fish restaurant was fantastic. The staff were very friendly & attentive to our needs.

Review 84:Bill was wrong. Not very clear. Had a hard job trying to sort it out from home. They just would not ring me back to sort it. I had to ring them 3 times.

Review 85:Location , facilities & staff were very good. Food was nice.

Review 86:Having to wait an unacceptable time between courses at dinner (we were half-board). Room was very cramped as we had to have a z-bed for my 16 year old (tall) son. Booked for 3 people through Booking.com but hotel inisted booking was only for two. Were going to charge extra - but we were able to show evidence.

Review 87:Great location and very clean. Friendly staff.

Review 88:Careful: Family Suite pictures (this is our experience ) in booking arenot what you get. Picture are misleading. Make sure you get to visit theroom before you buy. We paid a lot and got a very simple room

Review 89:Restaurant, breakfast are ok. Personnel is nice and kind...but Room isway too cheap for the price you pay. Too small, too dark, too simple.

Review 90:It was a bit noisy - 2 weddings going on with loud music until late. We also felt that it wasn't quite up to the cost we paid for the room. We booked 2 nights here to enjoy a spa weekend but were sad to discover there were no spaces available in the spa or for treatments during our stay so make sure you book well in advance of your stay

Review 91:Our room was spacious and it was lovely to have a terrace. As honeymooners we also appreciated the free bottle of champagne. Breakfasts were good with buffet style alongside table service for hot meals. Great location - easy walk into Falmouth

Review 92:I paid £648 for a two night stay in a superior double with terrace. I was therefore expecting something more than an average/tired double room and a shared terrace with three other rooms. This was nothing special and was very poor value for money. What is more the terrace planting was totally overgrown, unmaintained downpipes (broken) and the fencing obscured what was available as a sea view. This hotel is really nothing special. The restaurant staff whilst friendly are poorly trained and totally overstretched at busy times, as are the kitchen staff I expect as wait times can be long. Wine I chose was not available, oysters ill prepared as contained numerous shell splinters which totally spoilt the experience. Sorry St Michaels but you are not value for money and I would not book again. I visit Falmouth often and have had much better experiences at significantly lower cost

Review 93:Location is perfect for Gylly Beach and walks to Swan Pool and Town

Review 94:Not having air con, but it was fine most of the time. Hotel can be very busy when there are wedding receptions.

Review 95:Accomadation, decor, cleanliness, food and presentation of food. Having many things that you can do in and out of hotel

Review 96:The 'economy room' was tiny, with no room or stand for bags, it was in the basement, was very hot, and a noisy with a private party well into the night. It wasn't cheap by any means and not great value. Also a paper we ordered wasn't delivered and when it was reported to reception they didn't really care. They did point out they wouldn't charge me for it though....

Review 97:Breakfast was very nice, with good service, spa facilities good, if a little dirtyin the changing rooms.

Review 98:The service in the restaurant on the Saturday night was slow . We were aware that people were complaining having waited nearly an hour for their main . This changed the atmosphere in the whole restaurant. The food however was exceptional

Review 99:Muzak too loud in restaurant and bar (and could not be turned down or off), small washbasin

Review 100:wifi, layout and facilities. A room with a sea view is a must

Review 101:The rooms are too small, no place at all for tall people. When serving wine beside the glass no one made any excuses or changed the glass !!

Review 102:Staff is very often not competent but allways friendly. The younger staff should learn more about techniques to serve.

Review 103:Wi-fi in the bedroom was weak. Everything otherwise was fantastic.

Review 104:Beautiful location, great room at a good price, fabulous breakfast, helpful and efficient staff.

Review 105:Not enough sunbeds outside didn't think they used the lawned areas to the best advantage. We had a room with a terrace and the furniture on there was very poor and they had birds nesting on the area which were squawking from 4am !!

Review 106:Location beautiful

Review 107:The room we had was booked as a comfort double, however it was anything but, it was too hot and no possibility of opening a window, we had to leave the patio doors open through the night, and the bathroom was very cramped.

Review 108:Breakfast very good inc waiting staff Spa facilities were good

Review 109:The room was unbelievably noisy - directly onto the terrace so you had noise from there all day and into the night, a big wedding on Saturday night with noise and music till late, paper thin walls so you could hear EVERYTHING from the room upstairs and LOUD music all day and into the night thumping in the room from the gym downstairs. No peace at all!

Review 110:Breakfast was great and staff were friendly

Review 111:Room was a bit small making the windows and wardrobe a bit difficult to access.

Review 112:Staff were polite, considerate and accommodating. Food was excellent. Breakfast was a real treat with lots of local produce on the menu. Decor around the place is lovely and the gardens are very well kept. Spa facilities were lovely and clean despite being used daily by members aswell as hotel guests. Gym has everything you would need and the location is perfect for a walk or run. I had a lovely treatment in the spa with local products. I couldn't speak more highly of my therapist Lauren. Everything was just perfect for a quiet, healthy getaway from the city!

Review 113:not a big enough area for sun loungers at spa not enough loungers ones there were old and cushions were badly stained and holding moisture from overnight, not a quiet area for guests to relax

Review 114:Not a bad experience, more of a niggle. Breakfast in our room was not always exactly as we ordered, eg, toast not supplied, but otherwise no complaints

Review 115:The overall experience was very good, the staff friendly and helpful and the facilities excellent

Review 116:I didn't enjoy the breakfasts, small things like too salty bacon, scrambled eggs cold, muffins in eggs benedict to chewy. We had evening meal every night as part of package, didn't enjoy the same menu after 3 nights. Room too small for price.

Review 117:The staff are very friendly. Hotel clean. Good location.

Review 118:the poor standard of rooms for a four star hotel , we stay there for 3 nights and have to change rooms twice .my holiday have been ruin , we were over charged too .

Review 119:very little

Review 120:Didn't find the toaster easy to operate

Review 121:The magnificent choice of fish and the lovely view from the restaurant where we had a table by the window. Such a friendly hotel. We felt perfectly at home.

Review 122:It' s a small thing really but the breakfast could have been a bit hotter.

Review 123:We liked the room with its comfortable bed and pleasant decor. The service was very good and the food in the restaurant with its lovely sea view was excellent.

Review 124:We had a top floor economy room @£194 per night the seagulls were on theroof all the time the shower was very week and the room was tiny theroom was not made up until 3 pm in the afternoon every motion from thestaff was just too slow.

Review 125:Close to the beach yes it has a gym and spa but if you don't havethe time to visit its no use

Review 126:1) food service unacceptably slow when restaurant full, both dinner and breakfast . 2) car parking very difficult, both access and spaces

Review 127:1)View from restaurant and quality of food served 2) Friendly and helpful staff, dealing quickly with any issues.

Review 128:Rooms were cold as heating didn't work, no pressure in shower and moved to another room But right by hotel walkway so noisy

Review 129:Restairant and the staff in the restaurant were very friendly

Review 130:The king size bed was made up of 2 singles and the springs had gone on one side making it uneven to sleep and therefore uncomfortable

Review 131:Staff were friendly and hotel in beautiful gardens

Review 132:the car park isn't big enough, when visitors arrive to use the spa there aren't enough spaces for hotel guests.

Review 133:the hotel is beautifully decorated, spotless and located right on the beach. Easy access to Falmouth itself.

Review 134:For the price room was disappointingly small. No magnifying mirror ( need one to do my makeup!). Zipped together beds had a big dip in the middle. Not up to standard of my previous visit.

Review 135:You sorted out the leaky shower and blocked drain immediately. Lovely restaurant. Nearly all staff were good. Great location. Super spa treatment and swim.

Review 136:Too busy to give the level of service expected. Too busy to cope with breakfast in the mornings. Long waiting time with cold food served and a generally poor quality. White wine and bubbles served warm. From reading reviews and the score of the place I expected so much more and was left very disappointed.

Review 137:Friendliness of certain staff

Review 138:i felt that the outside areas ( patio, terrace) was in need of cleaning. leaves everywhere and bird poo on the walls on the terrace near the restaurant

Review 139:Excellent Gym and pool facilities.
