Reviews for Hotel de L'Opéra
Review 1:Shower cutain clinging to body
Review 2:The location is great with walking distance to most sites and the central trams converge near by. The staff are nice and speak good English. The room is small with little space to unpack, so luckily my wife travels with her luggage on the floor. I liked coming and going in the hotel without having to give over my key. We had a view of the opera which made the room airy and bright. The bathroom was nice except the shower curtain clinged. The breakfast was a good deal if you like to fill l up for a day walking the town. Ham, cheese, yogurt, fruit, and really good coffee. There are taxis right outside the door if you don't want to take the tram to the train station or find a way to the airport. It cost 15 euro to the train station. When I come back to the city, I will book again. Internet speed was 2 to 8 Mb so good connection.
Review 3:The first room designated to us was terrible. Windows to an internal yard without exit. Was changed by a next door hotel , same owners.
Review 4:Excellent neighborhood. Everything you wished in Bordeaux was near the hotel.
Review 5:Not really a bad experience but this annex hotel is ageing - this is why it is good value if simple in décor. I did think the breakfast was not good value as limited menu.
Review 6:Location was perfect. Was also good value even though the check-in or front desk was located in a sister hotel about 50 meters away. I had a room looking out towards the Opera House - very pleasant outlook.
Review 7:Our room was tiny and dark, very much like a cupboard. Our friend who travelled with us with a dog fared much better. He ha a bright spacious room with a balcony. Request this type of room when you book, avoid room number 24.
Review 8:The location was great, staying with a pet caused no problem at all.
Review 9:Room was really quite basic, and there was a bad smell coming from the drains in the bathroom. Wifi just about worked but was slow and dropped out often.
Review 10:Fantastic location; a very short walk from many lovely restaurants. Staff gave friendly advice about where to park for cheap.
Review 11:The room was a dismal dark tiny cell. The bathroom was so small that you hit your chin on the basin when using the toilet. I don't think I have ever stayed in such terrible room anywhere in Europe.
Review 12:The location was good and it was at least clean
Review 13:To be facing a puits-de-jour ,that is a narrow chimney like well inside the building . The reception inthe hotel next door was always full because people had difficulty understanding the system . We were not told about the arrangment with the parking 'des grds-hommes ' and had to pay the full price at the Tourny ' parking garage . We noticed that the prices were often not as promised on the contract from booking.com leading to arguments as customers wait in a narrow hallway.
Review 14:Nice hotel right in the centre of Bordeaux ,bathroom was very good and there is an elevator . Very good quality for the price ,do not hesitate to book but do'nt expect to be in the 2 or 3 bedrooms with an outside window !
Review 15:No reception on site. Wifi almost non existent which is bad for travellers needing to book ahead. Bed the most uncomfortable I have EVER slept in- springs were almost thro' the mattress and there was a creased covering over the mattress (room 15). Breakfast was very ordinary for the price!
Review 16:Location - close to tourist office, trams, Central Bordeaux
Review 17:Having to go around the corner to another place to get keys and then having to find myb way back again.
Review 18:Situated right in the centre of the city with easy access to most places of interest.
Review 19:No instructions on booking that it was necessary to go round the corner and check in at another hotel, then return to L'Opera where no resident staff. Appeared more like a hostel than a hotel.
Review 20:Convenient location
Review 21:There is no reception, you need to get the key from another hotel, the wifi didn't work great, parking is a nightmare (they have a deal with a parking nearby but failed to inform us until we asked)
Review 22:The location is great, very convenient
Review 23:Great location and value for money for a short stay. Rooms are small but most time spent exploring Bordeaux and it is right at the doorstep of the city.
Review 24:The room had only window to a narrow courtyard smelling of french fries, so we had to sleep with windows closed in 30 degrees Celcius with no air-condition. The room was small and dark.
Review 25:Awful, requested to move to associated hotel around the corner. This is not a hotel, just rooms, very stuffy, very basic but at least clean. If this is all your budget stretches to fine but otherwise spend a bit more and get a nicer place.
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:It would have been nice if I had been warned about checking in at sister hotel.
Review 28:The real bonus was the lovely balcony overlooking the opera house.Great view.
Review 29:No staff/reception service available in the hotel. Small rooms. No Wifi connection on higher floors (3rd,4th,5th) No air-conditioning. Very warm and no-good air quality inside.
Review 30:Perfect Location, walking distance to everywhere...
Review 31:It was way too hot in the room and I could not open my windows due to privacy and safety issues on the first floor. So was an uncomfortable sleep. I requested a room on a higher floor, but no room were available
Review 32:Extremely small rooms. No space to even keep bags, No elevators, No internet in Room. Breakfast was quite ordinary.
Review 33:Very close to main station. Good Bedding
Review 34:moldy smell in bathroom, balcony railing was broken and did not seem safe. The room was significantly more expensive than our previous stay here
Review 35:location, room in good repair, balcony with view of opera house
Review 36:Location could not be bettered, I asked for a quiet room and had exactly that, there were friendly staff on the desk and cleaning, a nice modern lift and I can't wait to return!
Review 37:Breakfast is quite normal.
Review 38:Location is very close to the city center and tram/bus stops. Easy to access from Airport. Free-WiFi worked well, and the room is enough large for a single guest.
Review 39:Firstly, the staff at De L'Opera were so friendly and helpful! A huge thank you to Annabel at reception, she was delightful! We were provided with helpful local information. The room was pretty standard, it was clean and neat- it does need some updating but unless you intend on staying in the hotel, who cares! The bathroom was nice and clean, the water was always hot and we were provided with fresh towels and soap everyday. We had a room with a balcony, available on request, the view makes up for the fairly dull room. Stunning! Located Directly next to the opera house, the view and the hotel location were amazing! We could walk everywhere around the city and St pierre with ease. We were based on the 2nd floor, a small elevator worked a treat with the luggage. Basically, the hotel is basic and clean..the location makes it an ideal choice. The restaurants close by are wonderful and the main city centre tram/bus stop is a 5min walk.
Review 40:cleaning staff entered the room without knocking in the morning
Review 41:location right next to the Grand Théâtre (short walk to all sights in the center of town, direct tram from Quinconces to the rail station), the rooms are clean and in good shape and well-heated, staff at the main hotel around the corner are very helpful and friendly. wifi a little slow but functional. great value for a short city break!
Review 42:Generally run-down and knocked about small bathroom has passed its use-by date, with a rocking toilet adding to the dismal impression.Noattempt at decor in bedroom, thin blankets, poor mattresses, readinglamps far too dim. No actual reception. You have to go to the completelyseparate Hotel Quatre Soeurs round the corner, and for tired travellersthis is very disconcerting,as there was no warning of this.at the timeof booking.
Review 43:Two out of three receptionists were charming, the other at leastefficient. The location is excellent and our room V. quiet, though witha dismal view of a light-well providing little light.
Review 44:Rooms look a little dated but I would rather have that than if they tarted them up with a style out of keeping with the centre of Bordeaux.
Review 45:Location by Opera Handsome old building on outside. Rooms are perfectly comfortable if not glamorous. Good breakfast. The place is surrounded by interesting restaurants.
Review 46:you have to check in in another hotel nearby, wifi is off and on although i was offered to another room with better connection
Review 47:location, friendly staff, cost
Review 48:Staff could not find a hair dryer even after 2 nights and a promise we would have one the second night. Very small, dated, dusty in the corners, room, but comfortable and quiet.
Review 49:Great location in a fantastic city! The hotel is across the street from the Opera in the centre of the old part of the city and a block from the Gironde river. It is easy to walk everywhere, especially the extensive network of pedestrian streets and along the beautiful quai. Adjacent to the intersection of the modern Tram lines.
Review 50:Room was small but ceiling was high. Impeccably clean. As good a continental breakfast as one could expect. I expected having the reception around the corner at a sister hotel to be a problem, but with efficient and friendly staff, it was just fine.
Review 51:The rooms facing the street catch the afternoon sun and they really need air conditioning to make them comfortable to sleep in
Review 52:This hotel is in a very convenient location.
Review 53:Obviously at this price the room was not so big as in a more expensive hotel, but perfectly adequate. I don't think there is any air-conditioning. Room will eventually need to be spruced up but I hope they don't tart the place up too much. No hotel lounge only breakfast room but that would not bother most people who would want to be out seeing Bordeaux or doing business.
Review 54:Superb central Bordeaux location by Grand Theatre and restaurants. Classic old building but with a lift. Nice plain decor with no gimmicks. Reasonable price. Everything worked. Clean, comfortable room. Near car public park exit (La Bourse). Good continental breakfast including hot coffee!
Review 55:During the night the skin started to tickel us and made us an allergic reaction which we discovered in the morning. We slept very bad. The lines between bathroom ceramics were more black than white like they should be...never again.
Review 56:Location of hotel in town and staff.
Review 57:Bedrooms small and old Beds not comfortable at all Showers very small water spilled all over the bathroom floor no wifi or very poor windows would open to trash areas would smell really bad if you open window. No AC
Review 58:Location
Review 59:They had a party at the restaurant or something next to the hotel and we could hear very loud misic and noise very late at night like 3 o'clock.
Review 60:location
Review 61:No reception, check in a mn walk at their Four Sisters hotel. Basic breakfast, but you can upgrade it for a just 1Euro to an excellent one, at their Four Sisters hotel. Basic rooms, small bathrooms.
Review 62:Excellent location, cheap parking on the main road. Great wifi, secured hotel. Clean rooms, excellent helpful staff. Great stay to move around Bordeaux.
Review 63:The rooms did not look like the rooms in the photos. No hairdryer, no AC. The bathroom was very small and the shower did not look inviting at all. Can be bearable for a night or two at most.
Review 64:The only positive thing about the hotel was the location and being in the center of everything.
Review 65:If breakfast is included it might be easier. To pay extra for breakfast is quite expensive.
Review 66:It is so near the tram C stop from Bordeaux St Jean station and the bus stop to take to the Bordeaux airport.Less than 5" walk. It is right smack in the shopping and dinning area.A lively and easy to walk to anywhere location.
Review 67:Rooms and Lift were pretty small but still fine for 1 or 2 days travel
Review 68:Location is very good, the price is not very expensive
Review 69:reception in other hotel, small bathroom, expensive hotel
Review 70:location, view from hotel, nice room

Review 73:Location only
Review 74:downtown bordeaux. great location! the hotel has a elevator for clients, which is very convenient for customers that carry large luggage.
Review 75:Convenient, very simple room & en suite facilities in central Bordeaux. Delightful receptionist.

Review 78:Wasn't aware we had to go round the corner to the other hotel to collect key.
Review 79:The location
Review 80:Wifi didn't work
Review 81:Very, very small windows on the 4th floor, lack of air conditioning
Review 82:Location, view
Review 83:Window opened onto space full of waste pipes. Smell of cigarettes - non smoking hotel? No fresh air.
Review 84:Internal room with no natural light felt a bit like a prison cell.
Review 85:Cheap and cheerful great location
Review 86:Initially awkward to gain access, then found out there was a shared reception with another hotel round the corner.

Review 109:the check in desk is in the other hotel
Review 110:location, friendliness of the staff, good wifi
Review 111:that there is not a reception in the building. We had to go around to look the reception in other hotel.
Review 112:the view from my room.
Review 113:No staff to be seen.
Review 114:Good no fuss base for touring Bordeaux.
Review 115:Reception in different building around corner. Wouldn't have been an issue If I'd been told in advance.
Review 116:not much.. the cost is ok
Review 117:very good location, internet improved from last week, rate is ok
Review 118:Location, staff & all others are very good and comfortable
