Reviews for Grand Hotel
Review 1:- very small room - single bed stuck to the wall with window not allowing to close the curtains and having to face the street light all night - on the street, very noisy
Review 2:Wondering
Review 3:A bit of an issue with hot water, shower was very slow to warm up but when it did it was adequate
Review 4:Friendly and helpful staff, especially Suzanne. Breakfast was very good.Nice clean rooms,we had 3.Good location on the main street. The Malaysian restaurant was very good too, although the service was a bit slow.
Review 5:The cooked breakfast to order was good, but the buffet part of the breakfast was very ordinary; the same fruit was in the bowls for three consecutive days and the bread for toasting tasted stale. The bedroom we had was located on Warwick Road and was noisy due to all the traffic. The room had a smoky smell so we tried to open the windows as much as possible. We were unable to control heating in the room. There were a number of paintings hung in the hotel with elaborate gold frames that were out of context with the rest of the hotel. The paintings were over the top for a small hotel which could do with a major overhaul.
Review 6:It was a reasonable price for a three night bed and breakfast stay. The location was good; close to Leamington Spa and close to facilities in Kenilworth. It was reasonable value for money.
Review 7:No reading lamps by bed, the shower wasn't adjustable so you had to hold it or get wet hair, and kettle was on the floor as there were no high level sockets.
Review 8:All staff were excellent and helpful
Review 9:A parking charge was applied when I arrived after paying up front for my stay online. The parking area is tight also. The hotel is requires a facelift and a make over as the decor, fittings and furniture are all past there best. Should be £20.00 per night less to be acceptable.
Review 10:The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Review 11:Concierge phone didnt work. Figured out it was speaker phone only. Paid for car park but when i returned to park, there was no space so I had to double park, the was disturbed in the morning to move my car to let someone out. There was no iron or ironing board so had to walk to reception and carry it back myself in the street as the room is a part of a restaurant. Weird.
Review 12:Location. Thick curtains which didnt let in light.
Review 13:Receptionist unhelpful when booking was wrong and there was no apologyor any attempt to resolve issue.
Review 14:Good location, clean tidy rooms with everything you need.
Review 15:Room cramped, bed very narrow, outside traffic noisy, shower pathetic, washbasin took ages to empty (badly working macerator) . A 3 star experience for a 5 star price. Interesting that all other guest houses and hotels in Kenilworth were full on this day owing to activities on the Stoneleigh show ground - yet this one had vacancies - I wonder why?
Review 16:The lady receptionist who was very friendly and welcoming and also served breakfast with a smile.
Review 17:Bathroom and toilet - extractor fan not working. Unable to urinate without sitting on toilet, because of height of sloping ceiling. Also, there is no bar!
Review 18:Nice spacious bedroom. Also, good selection at breakfast.
Review 19:Arrived on probably one of the hotest days in the UK. Only a little fan available for cooling. Windows opened to the main road, fairly noisy even though it was a Sunday.
Review 20:Very helpful staff and good value for a v comfortable room
Review 21:I would have liked a small chair in my single bedroom. I felt they could have a cheaper price for a small single on a Monday night.
Review 22:Helpful and very pleasant staff, good food and breakfast service fast and efficient
Review 23:Lady on reception was so helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable. Although the place is being renovated it was very clean and not noisy at all
Review 24:There was no hot water for my stay. Most likely this was due to hotel maintenance, but pretty disappointing.
Review 25:Room was fab and bed very comfortable. Lots of space and wifi worked well.
Review 26:A street facing room with blackout curtains but no nets or blinds - soyou could be in the dark or be on view. No a/c (and being in thehigh street leaving windows open is noisy). Worst of all, am omelettefor breakfast with at least 2 hairs in it - I stopped eating at thesecond hair. I had to ask for the breakfast charge to be removed. Finally, there's a £5 charge to use the car park, but they didwaive that.
Review 27:Comfortable bed, decent size room.
Review 28:the hotel rooms require significant refurbishment. as well as water pipes need to be fixed as their 'songs' sound was everywhere. the wifi was significantly poor in at least three different rooms.
Review 29:the staff in the hotel is very friendly, helpful and client-oriented. the breakfast was quite good.
Review 30:The hotel staff was friendly and willing to help. The facilities were clean and comfortable. Probably one of the best hotel experiences I've had in a long time.
Review 31:Exterior needs a facelift and there were some horrible 'oil paintings' Could not park in hotel car park
Review 32:Room smart with massive storage and big bathroom
Review 33:Could not get tops off bottled water provided. Cream provided for coffee had solidified.
Review 34:Good location, comfortable large room, free WIFI, good breakfast.
Review 35:Worst breakfast ever - microwaved hash brown and beans, rubbery bacon and the smallest sausage in the world. Inedible.
Review 36:In Kenilworth town centre Staff sorted out complaint well
Review 37:Absolutely nothing.
Review 38:The bathroom was the size of an Olympic swimming pool and the bed was amazing, ( the biggest bed I've ever slept in) lots and lots of storage in the room with a fantastic view of the garden and pond.
Review 39:Very limited parking, I had to park a little way away and dash in the pouring rain. Breakfast was tasty but a little limited on the non-cooked side
Review 40:Huge room with massive bathroom.
Review 41:After the ridiculous car park fee and facilities, need I say more. The bedroom above a kitchen had extractors running until 10.45pm. To balance the MFI type wardrobes, I had an Oil Painting fit for a Baronial Hall on one wall, a 1930's hall stand in the corner. Cheap chandelier type room and wall lights (9 Bulbs 5 working). What a strange set-up. In general things were clean, but weird.
Review 42:Location. If there is nowhere left to stay in Kenilworth, then this is OK..............
Review 43:The breakfast was disappointing - my husband generally enjoys his food - especially a cooked breakfast, however on this occasion he left at least half of it.
Review 44:The location was excellent for the town centre. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly.
Review 45:The only bad thing was the heating in the room was left on all night and we could not turn it off even with the windows open it was extremely hot.
Review 46:Our twin room was like a small apartment with 2 separate rooms, one room had a sofa and large TV. Bath room was lovely with a power shower. The young girl on reception was lovely and helpful. It was a great room for 2 friends staying in Kenilworth.
Review 47:Not enough parking spaces and difficult access for parking and access to rooms for a disabled person .. steps etc to negotiate
Review 48:Bedroom and its amenities...comfortable, cleanliness impeccable, and plenty of welcome extras
Review 49:Bed jammed into a corner Bed adjacent to roadside window Hair dryer faulty
Review 50:Convenient location . Staff good, breakfast menu good. Generally good value for the money
Review 51:The temperature of the room was cold. I don't particularly like carpets. I think the place could make a real difference without carpet. It will look more stylish. Boiler Compartment in the bathroom looks awful.
Review 52:The bed was nice and confortable.
Review 53:I couldn't sleep because of the noise from the road, the room was too hot and it would benefit from a ceiling fan or similar in warm weather as the windows had to be kept shut due to noise from the road and poor air quality on the high street. I wouldn't stay here again until these changes were made. Also I didn't like having to walk around from the car park back onto the pavement to access my room. With such a high quality product I think you should consider the points I've made.
Review 54:the room was beautiful
Review 55:Haven't really got anything to complain about. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that.
Review 56:We liked the comfort, staff were friendly, room we had was very splendid.
Review 57:The cooked breakfast menu is limited at best. Bacon and sausage sandwiches are not the best and not really hotel standard. There is no internal connect between the accommodation and the reception/dining room. You need to go outside and walk around the corner
Review 58:The room was very clean and a reasonable size. For a short stay it was absolutely fine and the staff could not have been more pleasant. Breakfast was fine as long as you stick to cereals, toast or fruit.
Review 59:The hotel charges extra for parking, which was a bit of a shock and seems a little mean in this day and age.
Review 60:Great hotel, friendly helpful staff. Nice Restaurant
Review 61:Some damage in the bathroom Water extremely hot and should have warning sign
Review 62:The bed was really comfortable Despite being next to the road, the impact of noise was minimal
Review 63:We received no breakfast due to kitchen closing early. We should have been told but we weren't. Sat in dining room waiting no staff available had to eventually telephone hotel to be told kitchen had closed early due to a party booking for lunch. We did get a refund and went else where for breakfast.
Review 64:The bed was fantastic.
Review 65:Wlan at least one day not functional. On all other days super slow even for email and sometimes not available at all. Bathroom mirror had still toothpaste spots from last inhabitant. Floor had still items from last inhabitant. Not very clean with plant in from of room door that was full with mold.
Review 66:Location good. Friendly staff.
Review 67:The room. Too small. The bed. Too small. The glass cabinet. Too dangerous. The shower. Too lime scaled to work properly. The car park. Too full of staff cars.
Review 68:The cheery receptionist. The handy location.
Review 69:Wifi non-functional in the main building - but available in the sister building.
Review 70:Friendly, helpful staff, great breakfast, lovely light, large room with all the facilities you could want. Great value for money.
Review 71:Carpets were filthy. No heating or hot water in my room. Had to use mobile heaters. Had to move to another room the next morning in order to have a shower. No reading lamp in 1st room, no working reading lamp in second room. Mugs chipped. No butter on tables at breakfast. When I mentioned this, the member of staff said, "Isn't it on the table?" I was the only person having breakfast, all tables were set but none had butter on them. I think I should have been offered some reimbursement. Unfortunately, I had to stay there because no other rooms were available and I had to attend a funeral. On the 1st night 2 other customers were given the same room number !
Review 72:2 out of 3 members of staff were pleasant and apologetic- evening male staff and receptionist on 1st day who cleaned the bathroom of leaving customer so that I could have a hot shower.Bathrooms clean but carpets filthy.
Review 73:Bathroom unheated and freezing cold in January, shower a tiny trickle. Whole venue very tired and in need of updating. And charge £5 a night just for parking your car, not made obvious at time of booking, especially as no where else to park near, so prices not as advertised!!..
Review 74:In centre of Kenilworth
Review 75:Dirty carpets Smell of Indian cooking Wires hanging out of the wall Chipped mugs Too few light bulbs No bath plug( broken) Curtains hanging badly Curtain restrainer broken off Lampshade torn Heated towel rail did nt work Lighted mirror did nt work Tv in breakfast room did nt work No wi fi in the reception half of the hotel Traffic noise at front if hotel, Indian restaurant noises at back unavoidable £5 for car park.
Review 76:Clean sheets Comfy bed Cooked breakfast (even though it was either that OR cereals)
Review 77:Place in need of some TLC , no bar in hotel, ceiling in dinning room had fall down in the night so breakfast was served in reception area which was very tight. Breakfast was cold and not appealing won't b returning!
Review 78:Nothing x
Review 79:We were going to Kenilworth for our anniversary meal and my husband surprised me with a stay in a hotel.we arrived and it did look lovely. Inside was really nice the room was at the front so we could see on the street the room was spacious and newly decorated. Tea and coffee facilities were the available the bathroom had a shower and bath and big fluffy towels x a fantastic stay.Breakfast was great had several choices very pleased x
Review 80:Service - waited 40 mins at Reception before phoning a number to get someone to check us in! Room was terrible, cob webs hanging from ceiling. Marks on walls. Bed was uncomfortable and basic- no valance on a devan! Noise from upstairs sounded like they where walking on floor boards! Bathroom coving missing in parts - adjoining door leading to Raffels Restauant next door from bathroom!!!! Could hear talking whilst sitting on loo!!!! I could go on and on!!!!
Review 81:Nothing
Review 82:I didn't like the parking charges and car park I got blocked in by another car and took 40mins to sort it making me late. Breakfast portion was small and not pleasing to the eye with a small rubbery textured sausage
Review 83:I liked the room Breakfast service was great
Review 84:I could not sleep at all as there was no heating in a loft room without any insulation when temperature was 4c during night. Literally, it felt like paying money sleeping in a freezing cold street. Hot water stopped in the middle of taking a shower. All caused me a bad cold right after a one night stay there. A dead spider found in a drawer of bed table, which I bet it is still there; there were water still left in the kettle from previous guest; Yellowish crumbs found in the bed. Water closet made some strange noise until 2am in the morning. Booked a double bed, but the was put together by two single beds, the edge of each single mattress in the middle made it impossible to sleep in the middle, ended up slept in a single mattress. Not able to use wifi. Had to pay 5 pounds for car parking.
Review 85:Breakfast was included Staff phoned ahead to confirm check in Plenty hangers in the wardrobe Bottle water provided
Review 86:Atmosphere staff very unwelcoming breakfast poor had to wait 20mins for slice of toast room needed decorated carpets badly stain and very bad odour on hallway and bedroom
Review 87:filthy carpets room 306 wallpaper peeling off, remains of leaking roof stains all down wallpaper mould all over bathroom window, cobwebs. Overall very disorganised, old bed base on landing, cheap furniture
Review 88:staff nice
Review 89:Not really a negative, but we would have benefited from another bedside light
Review 90:The staff were extremely polite, and I appreciated the ability to make tea/coffee. We were given a family room as I was staying with my adult daughter, which was particularly kind. We didn't have time to use the conservatory but it looked very relaxing.
Review 91:Charged £5 for parking. Twin room was booked and was not available on arrival . However was allocated and extra single room free of charge.Place smelt of curry everywhere. One room was at one side of the building and the other room at the other side so quite a treck . Also the double room was on the top floor totally unacessable to tyhe less mobile.
Review 92:The location was great for our visit.
Review 93:Receptionist was miserable and made us feel very unwelcome. There was a big hole in the ceiling of our bathroom. Breakfast was of a very poor standard.
Review 94:Car park £5 Room was in different building of the hotel to where breakfast is served, ok on day of arrival as dry and sun shining .... but pouring with rain next morning ... so unfortunately got a bit wet going from the room to breakfast! Didn't spoil the stay though.
Review 95:Very friendly helpful staff. Great room, was over the kitchen, but didn't hear, or smell a thing. Great value for money
Review 96:The noise from the traffic due to the location of the hotel which is in the center of town.
Review 97:The staff were friendly and helpful. The bedding was crisp and white as were the towels. Everything needed for a short stay was provided.
