Reviews for Bignell Park Hotel

Review 1:When we arrived, it was late but to then find my details on a registration paper on that was waiting for me on arrival, left on reception desk.. Was not greeted at reception and had to call a number to locate the room key.. When we entered the room, it looked nothing like in the pics.. Very dusty... The lampshades must of had months of dust and one even had Pubic hair.. We then slightly pushed the side unite away from the bed to then see years of dust along with hair that's defiantly not been moved by the cleaners ... the room was not clean at all . The bed was really uncomfortable.. It was too late for us to find another place to check into so we stayed and got up first thing in the morning and left.. We did not even have breakfast as we felt so disgusted by the hotels hygiene levels!! Bath towels were rugged and old...

Review 2:Rooms wings look like a conference center so not as inviting as the public rooms. Room interiors are tired. Breakfast is expensive unless you like to eat a lot.

Review 3:Great location for our travels, lovely hotel exterior, delicious food in restaurant. Rooms are basic, but comfortable and roomy. Loved the off street parking.

Review 4:The gardens are in desperate need of attention. The front of house has been maintained but the sides and rear (your view out of the bedroom window) is overgrown, dirty and unkept.

Review 5:Very comfortable, nice lounge and small cozy bar.

Review 6:Booked a twin executive, only had towels for 1 person, had no kettle, when asking for one was asked what we had done with the other one!!! Cooked breakfast was cold and no one asked if anything was OK despite having to pay extra for it. We cancelled the following mornings breakfast and was met with a very attacking receptionist saying why? We will not stay here again or recommend to any friends or family

Review 7:The hard floor in bedroom, broken hook on bathroom door and no door on shower (not sure if design or broken!) so floor got wet.

Review 8:We enjoyed the evening meal though the choice was limited. Breakfast was good.

Review 9:Strange smells in the corridors, plain unwelcoming dark room. Soundproofing of the room was not great, woken early by noise from the room above. Wanted afternoon tea on arrival and was told it needed to be booked 24h in advance but no mention of this on the website. Asked for bar menu instead. Was told the chef had taken it home and was offered the very limited choice of cheese and ham or ham and tomato toasties after this experience we lost confidence in the kitchen and took breakfast elsewhere. We've travelled a great deal and this is probably our most disappointing hotel experience.

Review 10:Attractive grounds, helpful staff.

Review 11:Room not so good. No table lamp (not one that reached the bed anyway), very poor bed not comfortable at all, one pillow! Light switch to room outside room, low ceilings.

Review 12:Lovely garden, great parking, nice sitting room

Review 13:The bed was hard. The bathroom door did not close properly. The central heating was switched off for the summer!! The floor was like a skating rink if wearing just socks. The menu choice was small.

Review 14:The food we did order and eat was good.

Review 15:Double bed was very small, Room smelt of drains - Extremely poor value for money at £130 excluding breakfast - wish we had gone elsewhere.

Review 16:Location , gardens

Review 17:The restaurant lacked atmosphere. We were there on Tapas night which was a nice change and portions were good- the food was ok but not amazing. We arrived for breakfast the following morning at 9:10am (finishes at 9:30am) only to be told that we couldn't have scrambled or poached egg as it takes too long. They also had run out of bacon. The buffet choices were poor and unappetising.

Review 18:We chose this as it was only 5mins from Bicester village, so very convenient. Bedroom and bathroom were both comfortable and clean. Excellent wifi in the bedroom.

Review 19:We had a four poster bed in the Stow room every time we moved in the night it creaked quite loudly but only a small issue wouldn't stop us from coming back!

Review 20:We loved the location, staff were lovely, food was excellent. All round great time, thank you! We will be back again.

Review 21:No curtains in conservatory part of room.

Review 22:Room was fine. We booked on room only basis. Paid extra for breakfast. Cooked breakfast was good. Continental breakfast needs a bit of work - Selection was poor.

Review 23:The Manager, who was overheard on the phone being very rude when I asked for a refund on a breakfast that I didn’t have, which I was told would be refunded by the receptionist and then wasn't. I will not be staying again, I hope he feels it was worth the loss of the business from me, my friends, family and colleagues, for the sake of one breakfast that was not even taken!

Review 24:The rooms large, although a little dated. The evening meal food was lovely, although very overpriced, I have never paid £7 for a dessert before now.

Review 25:Nothing that I could think of.

Review 26:The location is good .The staff is very accommodating ,friendly and helpful. Would recommend this hotel to friends because the staffs'hospitality was superb .

Review 27:I stayed here for 3 separate weeks and the rooms just got better and better. My final room was a large room with a 4 poster bed and was described by the receptionist on my check out as the best room in the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful both in the reception and in the restaurant. The food was lovely. We ate here every night and still found new things to have from the menu but if I wanted something different then the staff were very obliging. Wednesday night is tapas night and is authentic Spanish food cooked by Spanish staff. I would definitely stay here again without any doubt and hopefully for pleasure next time as I never had a chance to enjoy the beauty treatments on offer or visit nearby Oxford which I have been assured is well worth a visit

Review 28:I was able to book a room the day before my stay for a good price. I stayed in the hotel to shorten my travel to an interview. The staff were accommodating and the facilities offered were great. The free Wi-Fi and the use of the photocopier were handy.

Review 29:Lovely friendly staff Warm welcome Thoughtful touches like extra milk in the room Good food including dinner and breakfast with good vegetarian choices lovely grounds cosy, quirky restaurant and bar spacious room close to M40

Review 30:Breakfast was not worth the price charged, if it hd been a buffet maybe.., but not with the portions served up. My room had recently had cheap venetian blinds fitted which were difficult to operate. They were a good idea for privacy (on the ground floor, but are not sufficient to keep the light out on their own

Review 31:Convenient for Bicester Village. lovely dinner in restaurant. Very good service and helpful and attentive staff Guests get 10% off at Bicester Village. Ask for details as we went to the village first so sadly couldn't take advantage of that one!

Review 32:The bed was uncomfortable. Only single chair to watch TV (sofa couldn't be used - wrong position). Would have benefited from a mirror/ light over the desk plus power socket for hair drying etc.

Review 33:Quiet location but easy to get to. Staff were friendly. Good level of cleanliness. Good size room. Convenient location for us and plenty of parking.

Review 34:Setting was lovely and also convenient. We had the luxury of a suite with conservatory so had private access to the grounds. Staff were very friendly, helpful and accomodating. Thoroughly recommended

Review 35:Hotel staff very nice, informative. Rooms clean modern in look, everything you need. Lots of leather sofas in bar and lounge area, this I feel although guys the traditional look of the hotel, could do with a modern decor to bring upto date, however very present regardless. Didn't eat at the hotel. However, would revisit if in the area again.

Review 36:The bathroom did not come up to scratch. Hope it has been rectified! Reported it on leaving. Too tire to complain on arrival!

Review 37:The spacious newly floored bedroom and comfy bed.

Review 38:An extra or thicker quilt could have made the night sleep a little warmer considering the season, but other than that it was satisfactory.

Review 39:The staff made me feel very welcome. They were really helpful, and went out of their way to make sure I had a pleasant stay.

Review 40:Difficult to find. Hard bed with very thin duvet and no blanket provided. The charming waiting staff had strong accents and communication was sometimes difficult as we are ageing and slightly deaf. They did not understand us and vice versa, but perseverance and willingness prevailed.

Review 41:As above. Pretty setting. I was in a party of three couples attending a wedding and we all found the hotel very difficult to find, as the promised signs do not appear. We had a lovely meal served by charming staff.

Review 42:Large airy room, very comfortable. Extra heater put in room already as it was very cold outside which was very thoughtful. Close to motorway yet out in the countryside. Perfect location for me to be ready for early morning meeting.

Review 43:There wasn't anything not to like. Great staff great location and overall a great stay ;) x

Review 44:Staff was very helpful and polite, made us feel at home and was very professional! we had a great stay and didn't want to leave ;) were definitely visiting again soon! X

Review 45:Bedroom and bathroom windows filthy, and a form of sea grass carpeting very unhygienic and difficult to clean. Light switch for the bedroom in a dark lobby, not even in the room. Power points for kettle and tv difficult to access. Heating only with a portable fan heater. Web site misleading with out of date information.

Review 46:Restaurant good with imaginative menu - even if some items had been sold out leaving none for the evening. Lighting and shower in bathroom good. Comfortable beds and armchairs.

Review 47:I had no expectations. The hotel is charming and comfortable. The staff were friendly. The food (dinner and breakfast) was really good. A but pricey though and if I go back I will try to negotiate a better room rate. :-))

Review 48:Junior suite had not been given due attention when converted from existing. The bedroom light switch is on the opposite side of the room from the door!

Review 49:Food was excellent

Review 50:Cold room Very bad view from window No TV reception No breakfast included in fairly expensive room No breakfast room service

Review 51:Pleasant location Pleasant, helpful staff Clean Big bathroom (small bath)

Review 52:WE STAYED 2 NIGHTS THE FIRST ONE WAS VERY NICE , BEING OUT MOST OF THE SECOND DAY WE CAME BACK TO THE HOTEL AND THERE WAS A WEDDING PARTY ON OH DEAR OH DEAR ! VERY NOISY WE COULD ONLY USE THE BAR , THE REST OF THE HOTEL HAD CHILDREN ROLLING AROUND THE HALLWAYS , BROKEN GLASSES AND THE TOILETS WERE A MESS , LOUD MUSIC TILL 12.00 PM , WHEN ASKED THE NEXT DAY WHEN PAYING THE BILL BY THE MANAGER IF WE HAD A GOOD TIME WE OF COURSE SAID NO AND EXPLAINED OUR DISS PLEASURE HE STATED WELL ITS NOT OUR POLICY TO TELL GUESTS OF PARTYS ! PERHAPS IT SHOULD BE THEY MAY GET CUSTOMERS COMING BACK

Review 53:THE YOUNGER STAFF WERE VERY GOOD , THE FOOD WAS NICE , THE ROOM VERY CLEAN

Review 54:Filthy sea grass carpet, no shower gel or soap & when i asked reception i was given 1 tiny bottle of shower gel between the 2 of us. light didn't work near the door. I payed £97 breakfast not included!

Review 55:Leaving

Review 56:We arrived at 2.30pm and advised of room change from a large room I had requested 30 to 36 which is tiny. To further disappointment we had to wait 2 hours for our room in the bar without correct staffing or an Apology. Meanwhile we ordered a club sandwich that arrived cold, without lettuce and tomato and barely toasted - to then hear the chef be rude and put us down through the kitchen door for complaining- to then be informed that there was an 80th function so we were only allowed to eat at 8pm. We are local. We own a business in town and this poor service was very disappointing. In the morning I slipped on a soaking wet floor in the bar that did not have correct signage to alert water and when made aware to staff they shrugged their shoulders. We were looking for a respite as it was our first night away to relax after recently having our daughter. We were charged £207 for this awful experience and will be taking it further.

Review 57:There was nothing that was pleasant about our stay at all.

Review 58:Transport links on the mainline as I had to get to Birmingham and London during my 2 night stay. Excellent breakfast service. Arrived at 2am and was able to check in with no problems Taxi service by local firms great as well Amazing place to stay.

Review 59:Got the price wrong, on checkout tried to charge £20 for a travel cot with NO notice that we would be charged for this. £15 for breakfast ? Not nearly worth it, was average at best. Avoid this at all costs !! All in all an OK hotel but not worth the money and extras added to the bill on checkout left a bad taste in the mouth.

Review 60:The lady called Una on reception was exceptional and a great help and a pleasure to deal with.

Review 61:Shabby, needs updating, breakfast not included in a ninety poundcharge for 1 person. Paintwork in a dreadful mess, staff onreception not welcoming and sullen. Tea left in urns for hours anddisgusting, breakfast megre should have been buffet style and eat asmuch as you like.

Review 62:Nothing

Review 63:Being kept waiting on arrival and the quality of the room was poor. For starters - wooden blinds that did not close correctly (no curtains) dirty worn carpet, missing bulbs, mouldy sealant in bathroom, clogged extractor fan, mirror lamp broken, distressed furniture, holes in the window wall, carpet moths and they insisted on charging £15 for breakfast even though all I wanted was a bowl of cereal. After making the Assistant Manager aware of this at checkout she agreed to charge me the 'cost of the linen' which was £40. No breakfast. Won't be staying there again until they refurbish.

Review 64:Not much. Location was convenient.

Review 65:No air con, but not hot outside during our visit.Dinner pretty avarage- but ok for price

Review 66:Friendly and welcoming- everything we could need in our well equiped room. super breakfast

Review 67:Bed was worn out. Mirror on stand had come apart. Extractor fan in bathroom either was not working or was blocked. My Brothers room had not been prepared fully.

Review 68:Location, staff, food, grounds.

Review 69:One of the rooms was very hot when we asked for a fan to cool it down was told none to be had, needless to say couldn't sleep for the heat, the other room had only 1 bath towel for 2 people and it was very dark breakfast was a rip off at £15

Review 70:It was set in a nice country setting

Review 71:Very poor acoustics. We cd hear the people in the room above ours talking, laughing and walking around. In the middle of the night this went on and on making it hard for us to sleep. It was almost as if they were in the same room as us so it's on this basis that we would not stay here again. Have stayed in many, many hotels and never experienced this problem

Review 72:Convenient for Bicester Village retail outlet

Review 73:We asked for 7 problems with our room to be fixed including not being able to open the blind and having 2 bulbs blown. When none of these were done we checked out earlier than planned. The chef was 'award winning' but we figure it was for singing. The place needs a coat of paint and is not good value for what they charge.

Review 74:The shower was good and some of the staff were very nice.

Review 75:So over priced and breakfast terrible rubbish shower one towel for 2 hairs in bathroom. When asked was everything ok when checking out l said no and lady just said oh! Do not stay there.

Review 76:low on the number of staff, one lady in reception showing wedding guests about so this detracted from our check in and further enquiries. Internet not available in the room signal was too weak.

Review 77:Location and setting lovely. Room spacious TV good selection of channels

Review 78:Shame I don't have a hundred thousand or so pounds - I would use it to make this venue into a 5 Star hotel. However, even though it needs a bit of a spruce-up in the way of window treatments, carpets and etc. - my room was large, the community areas were lovely and the setting was lovely.

Review 79:The peace and quiet, yet close proximity to Oxford, Bicester and Milton Keynes. The setting was lovely. The staff were extra helpful and everyone seemed to be enjoying their work - no matter what the task.

Review 80:The price of the hotel for 1 night wasn't very practical and over priced for what it was and wasn't what we expected it to be also the food menu was poor

Review 81:Comfortable beds and polite staff and wasn't to loud around the premises

Review 82:Great staff and atmosphere - really nice place to stay.

Review 95:Staff were very helpful

Review 96:Too far from city.

Review 97:Big comfortable room.

Review 98:The lack of pillows in the room and shower needs updating.

Review 99:The staff are really friendly and professional.

Review 100:Junior Suite was incredibly dated and no air con meant very little sleep. Very poor Value for Money!

Review 101:I booked for my stepfather and clearly stated this in the booking form. This wasn't picked up and the receptionist was not helpful at all.

Review 102:a very friendly hotel

Review 103:We should stay longer in this hotel...

Review 104:Very Nice Garden and room is very comfortable and spacious. Very close to Bicester Village outlet.

Review 105:Nothing to dislike

Review 106:My family loves Bignell Park Hotel and we will definitely be back. The staff were fantastic.

Review 107:lack of attention to detail I.e. fresh flowers etc. the price indicates chic hotel but the rug, furnature blinds etc were very poor.

Review 108:Nothing!

Review 109:Comfy bed, good breakfast and welcoming staff.

Review 110:Television looked out of place , needed to be hidden away in a cabinet

Review 111:Lovely large room, great furnishings. Peace & quiet

Review 112:the room felt austere

Review 113:the setting and garden

Review 114:Can't think of one !
