Reviews for Best Western - Grand Hôtel de la Mer Roscoff
Review 1:No bad experience, however bed was hard!
Review 2:Courteous and attentive staff, great location in the centre of town close to shops and restaurants; excellent breakfast with adequate choices
Review 3:Good location, clean, super price and helpful staff - hard to fault. We didn't eat at the hotel but the menu looked good albeit a touch expensive compared to other restaurants in town.
Review 4:The restaurant. Only for gourmet rich clients. Too expensive for us and dishes all too complicated for our needs. No vegetarian choice.
Review 5:Helpful friendly staff. Pleasant room
Review 6:Very friendly reception. Our room had a magnificent view of the sea. And the day we checked out, they gladly held our luggage until the evening, since we didn't want to leave it in the car.
Review 7:A hand rail fitted in bath would'nt go a miss, as it was very slippery.....
Review 8:Everything was brilliant, the staff the room service(breakfast in the room) & especialy the view in room 302. I will stay there everytime i go to Roscoff..A very well done. Oh & it's lovely & peaseful this time of year...Xxx.
Review 9:A comfy chair in the room would have made a difference.
Review 10:Excellent professional service given by nice people in a superb location with terrific food and wine.
Review 11:Parking! The hotel has a garage a little distance away but unfortunately due to road works was almost inaccessible this time. We were lucky to find a space on the crowded square.
Review 12:very good restaurant. Why no Michelin star?
Review 13:Absolutely fantastic staff, welcome, food and comfort. Would thoroughly recommend this lovely hotel. The restaurant food is of the highest quality. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.
Review 14:Finding the parking was a nightmare in the dark and we weren't the only ones with this problem. The breakfast was mediocre.
Review 15:The bedroom was comfortable and clean.
Review 16:On arrival at 4 pm we asked the receptionist about parking for car? - no, places are all taken. Dinner this evening? - no, the restaurant is fully booked. Totally my fault (even though my booking requested car parking) so let this be a warning to others! Our room (with a super sea view) was cold - silly me, I had forgotten to book any heating.
Review 17:Located conveniently for central restaurants and the early morning ferry.
Review 18:Very disappointed at being charged four euro each to leave our bicycles in a yard. Only time being so charged.
Review 19:Very clean and comfortable. Good location.
Review 20:The hotel itself is beautiful and the owners + their excellent staff do everything they can to make your stay great. My husband is disabled and the assistance we received was quite remarkable.
Review 21:Noisy delivery trucks at 5.30 a.m. New restaurant appears a bit expensive, and as a result went elsewhere
Review 22:Friendly, comfortable and welcoming. Secure parking a boon, although limited. Location excellent, and would recommend a sea view room. Excellent stop-over before/after the ferry.
Review 23:My only suggestion is the installation of a mini bar in the rooms. Very often one needs a cold drink, especially in the mornings.
Review 24:The position of the hotel is quite outstanding. The sea views are stunning.
Review 25:Turned away from the restaurant "because we hadn't booked",even though there were many empty tables. Room shabby, bed uncomfortable,no bath, towels child size and worn.
Review 26:The sea view. Reception staff pleasant and helpful.
Review 27:Parking inconvenient but couldn't be improved given the situation of hotel.
Review 28:Amazing seafront room - could have fished in comfort from window! Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 29:Nothing.
Review 30:A warm welcome and very pleasant staff. Hotel and room in particular well presented, comfortable, clean and immaculate. Super view over the sea and Ile de Batz.
Review 31:Car parking at 15 euros a day is something of a rip off. Their secure car park is difficult to late and disorganised. Our allocated bay, number 9, was occupied on both days of our stay. Breakfast is average and fairly uninteresting and at 15 euros a head, expensive.
Review 32:Location is stunning. Our sea view room was amazing and offered changes of light as each hour passed by. Hotel is also brilliantly located in the centre of the old town thus enabling guests to sample a whole host of restaurants and shopping opportunities.
Review 33:Absolutely wonderful! The location and view from our room was wonderful. The young lady at the desk was immensely helpful and the breakfast was great! We loved walking the area and found that being just around the bend near the church made the location a little less hectic when the big crowds were around. Having a guaranteed place to park was helpful as well.
Review 34:Although priced at, what could be expected of an establishment like this, it turns out to be usual French Tat. This is coming from someone who has lived for nearly a decade in France and is no longer "surprised" by the level of mediocrity of the "Hoel" in France
Review 35:The facade presents a greater expectation than the experience within
Review 36:Our room was on the 4th floor which is in the attic space, and it was quite small.
Review 37:The staff were really friendly and chatty, and helped us sort out our luggage. We had a room with a wonderful sea view.
Review 38:Arrangements for car-parking not clearly signposted or facilitated. Many customers coming in after us also found this so. There was a busy festival happening on the arrival day, so the hotel should have anticipated this and made temporary signs showing the way to the car-park or else had an extra person on hand to direct them. *Hotel manager (or deputy) not pleased that we asked for another two sachets of coffee. Spent £180 for a night's stay and the miserable deputy begrudged us two more sachets. What do they cost? About 10p each? Some perspective required here... Other than that, excellent.
Review 39:Lovely clean hotel. Very central location and stunning views. Relatively expensive but you more-or-less* get what you paid for.
Review 40:Parking can be a bit awkward if you have a car.
Review 41:Surprisingly quiet once the church bell opposite stops ringing. Helpful staff. Nice and close to the town centre.
Review 42:Arrived to find that the sea view room that we had booked wasn't available,so we ended up in a smaller room with partial view, this was very disappointing as we had purposely booked the Best Western for the view for the last day of our holiday to make it special.
Review 43:There was a charge for storing our bikes. After we complained at the extortionate charge of €15 per bike per night, the rate was reduced to €15 for both. However I still thought this extremely expensive particularly as the store was an open yard with nowhere to lock the bikes to or in which meant they could have been easily stolen. It was good for cars as the gate was locked. Another gripe was that we wanted to buy a small amount of milk as the shops were shut but the charge was €5!
Review 44:Private parking is advertised but very limited availability. We had a car with a trailer which even though we asked in advance was not booked in. It turned out to be relatively easy to find street parking overnight. The Hotel Restaurant is very fine dining, expensive and not really suitable for hungry families!
Review 45:Comfort rooms - everything we needed, immaculate, clean and very comfortable. Brilliant location, ideal for ferry the next morning.
Review 46:If you want to eat dinner in the hotel, booking in advance is advisable; wifi was a bit mixed (slow and kept cutting off)
Review 47:First class welcome at reception; sea view from room (waves just below at high tide!); comfortable bed; excellent breakfast; good location in town centre; superb restaurant
Review 48:Thin voile as a curtain with a light outside made it very hard to get to sleep. Trying to leave at 6:50am tricky when staff don't start til 7am. Very hot room.
Review 49:Location fab. Lovely views. Spacious rooms. Dog friendly. Didn't eat in the restaurant but can't beat those views.
Review 50:Parking nearby but time limited. Long stay car park a bit of a trek.
Review 51:Lovely position in quiet square with spectacular views from our room. Meal in the restaurant was excellent and all staff friendly and helpful. Very handy for the ferry.
Review 52:The toilet in our room did not smell clean and the tiles under to toilet tissue holder was dirty. Pillows for the bed were, small and lumpy.
Review 53:fantastic location and helpful staff. Good first impression and welcome, Thank you.
Review 54:Bed was so small, I did not sleep. Also a lot noise from the room above. Wifi did not work properly. Female woman at the desk was real kind though. We cancelled the second night.
Review 55:Bedroom small and grouting in bathroom could do with replacing.
Review 56:Fabulous position. Sophie receptionist very helpful and informative. Wonderful views and excellent breakfast
Review 57:Not being told in advance the need to book for a car park space or the need to reserve dinner. The poor level of wifi
Review 58:The position was very good and central. The room was clean and comfortable
Review 59:A little old-fashionated decoration and furniture.
Review 60:Location. Helpful staff. We had not a room with sea view, but it was with gothic church view! You can see the best Roscoff's views fro the restaurant.
Review 61:I phoned and clarified that breakfast would be included in our rate as would sleeping accommodation for 5. The hotel told me all was included. On checkout they tried charging me for a travel cot and the breakfasts. Of course I didn't pay for there things. They need to ensure staff provide correct information. Next time we will definitely stay at the ibis next door. We have never had any problems there!
Review 62:Breakfast extra is a bit over priced given it is just a basic continental breakfast
Review 63:location excellent and friendliness and courteousness of staff exemplary
Review 64:There were 2 spare pillows in the wardrobe which we put on the bed, I think they may have been in there for sometime, or the wardrobe needs a good clean, as they had little bugs on them. We took them off again. It was very noisy out in the street at night, not the hotels fault but did impact our stay, also very hot and the windows needed to be closed in order to have the blind down.
Review 65:Extremely friendly young lady (Sophie) on reception who checked us in, even though we arrived at 3pm we still had to wait about 20 minutes for the room cleaning to be finished but we sat in the window and had a drink and watched the world go by. Sophie kindly furnished us with a parking permit for the local spaces and explained how everything worked. We did not eat in the restaurant but the view looked spectacular.
Review 66:I have stayed in this hotel for more than 30 years. It's position overlooking the sea is superb. This year the new chef Arthur Peran has created wonders in the kitchen. This is now, by far, the best restaurant in Roscoff. I look forward to my next visit immensely.
Review 67:We had a superior room, which was fantastic, the sea just beneath the large window. The Restaurant is also worth a visit, although you must book to avoid disappointment. The food and wine were excellent. The Reception staff we very professional and friendly and nothing was too much bother. Great weekend, will be going back
Review 68:Not a big point but the shower was not very powerful.
Review 69:We had a sea view room and the view from the large window was lovely . We both slept well and found the bed comfortable.Breakfast was very good. The staff were all very helpful .
Review 70:Quality of the room, excellent staff who were friendly and helpful. Lovely views from hotel. Roscoff was a pleasant surprise as we had never seen the town before when using the ferry port.
Review 71:Unable to get a reservation for dinner as the restaurant can only cater for 35 people and there is a 3 month waiting list. No room service. No food at all for hotel guests. Why book a hotel with no dining room. Parking charge.
Review 72:Very helpful Reception staff. Seaview
Review 73:Complete lack of wifi in bedroom and only very slow in reception area
Review 74:Location very good and staff very nice but would not admit to any problem with wifi. There was wifi in reception area but still very slow and when I asked a staff member if there was any good spot in reception she said wifi was good everywhere in the hotel. Clearly not so!!
Review 75:The view from our balcony room was fantastic and the staff were really helpful. We parked our 2 push bikes in the lock up car park for free. Location in the town just great.
Review 76:Sadly when we arrived we were attended to immediately and given the key to our room. This was late afternoon and we wished to unpack. When we arrived in the room it was very obvious that it hadn't been serviced after the previous occupants, there was even a child's put-u-up in the corner. We immediately informed reception who told us that they were not sure they could get the room cleaned that afternoon, there was another room but not so nice as the one we were allocated.we really liked the room so offered to go for a walk to give them chance to attend to this. We were away for over a hour but when we returned we were told that the room could not be cleaned and that they had moved our luggage into an equivalent room on the lower floor still with sea view. We were very pleased with the change, but felt that some recompense could have been made for our inconvenience. We ate in the restaurant that evening - a drink on the house maybe? But no.
Review 77:Lovely room with super sea view. Breakfast was very good.
Review 78:Fantastic view over the sea and the room had everything we needed and everything worked! Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We would use this hotel again.
Review 79:Nothing really, although worth noting that despite the hotel having a lift, access for the disabled in a wheelchair is limited with steps leading up to the foyer from the entrance.
Review 80:The sea view from the room and restaurant
Review 81:Steps to entrance difficult with case for us with arthritis and mobility problems. Car park around the block on one way system. Bedroom had only a net curtain, and was overlooked by houses opposite. Restaurant was specialist for sea food, which made eating very difficult. The only fish dish (sea bass) was not available. No vegetarian option. Desserts loaded with sugar, but chef did make up a natural fruit salad for diabetic guest.
Review 82:Welcome by staff. Accommodation. Location close to amenities.
Review 83:Beautiful hotel with stunning views right on the sea...situated in the center of Roscoff. Melamie gave us the warmest of welcomes and is a credit to the hotel!
Review 84:Unable to book a table in the restaurant of the hotel , maybe it was so good and always fully booked, but it'll be nicer to be able to eat in the hotel.
Review 85:See view from the room is great!
Review 86:The cardboard cups provided for hot drinks in the room were dangerous with hot liquid in them, they bent and twice I dropped them onto the carpet. I did converse with the proprietor and they agreed they would replace with proper mugs/cups
Review 87:The sea view
Review 88:Unfortunately hotel restaurant was closed on Sunday evening which meant having to go out to eat in inclement weather, however other eating options were very close by. .
Review 89:Hotel staff were excellent, very attentive and keen to help in any way. Room was spotless and very warm and cosy on a cold and rainy December night.
Review 90:Quite expensive and have stayed in better cheaper hotels. Could do with dressing gowns in the bathroom.
Review 91:Got to be one of the best outlooks going. Can't get much closer to the sea.
Review 92:There was absolutely nothing to dislike
Review 93:We liked everything, from the location to the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food, but we're sure it would have been to the same very high standard.
Review 94:Nothing to report, other than a personal preference for a slightly softer matress!
Review 95:Friendliness of staff was evident from the start. Rooms were clean and fresh. Ours had a great sea view. The place has secure parking at an additional cost but so convenient when leaving a car full of holiday luggage. Such a convenient location, too.
Review 96:Restaurant closed the evening of our stay and being charged for secure parking some way from the hotel.
Review 97:Great location, very helpful and friendly reception staff.
Review 98:No restaurant open in the hotel when we were there as being refurbished.
Review 99:Very convenient for both the town, restaurants and the ferry. Excellent secure car parking.
Review 100:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 101:Superb building, location and staff - couldn't fault it. Right in the centre of town but with a quiet location and lovely views, and a secure garage and bike park too.
Review 102:We chose this hotel because it had a restaurant, When we went to use it Sunday night we found, it was closed on Sundays and Thursdays.
Review 103:1. location 2. Value deal for the room
Review 104:We decided to eat in the restaurant and whilst the food was delicious and Beautifully presented, the service was probably the slowest I have ever experienced. We were seated at our booked Table at 8p.m and did not even have a drinks order taken for 40minutes. It was nearly midnight by the time we finished our meal. Do eat there for the quality of good but NOT if you have any time constraint.
Review 105:The hotel is right on the waterfront in the heart of Roscoff which is a beautiful granite Breton fishing port. There is plenty of nearby parking and shops and restaurants are all within very close walking distance. We paid extra for a room with a sea view and balcony which was definitely worth doing for the beautiful sunset/sunrise.
Review 106:The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We were a group of fiends having an annual reunion from different European Countries and were all made to feel very welcome.
Review 107:Parking inevitably difficult in old town centre. Steps only access from street difficult for some disabled
Review 108:Very helpful staff, particularly at reception. Lovely sea view, changing with the tide. Wide menu choice.
Review 109:Our room was very spacious with great views of the sea and the town. The location was great for exploring Roscoff and for eating out in the evenings. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 110:Having broken my ankle whilst holidaying in the area. Just out of hospital on crutches and quite unsteady. The hotel lacks disabled access. Unable to help with wheelchair. Bedroom on 3rd floor, whilst accessed by lift it was right at the end of corridor. Making life extremely difficult.
Review 111:Hotel in excellent position. Staff excellent. Dining experience excellent if a little lacking in waiters. Would have been better if tables allocated to one waiter throughout service.
Review 112:We have stayed at this hotel a few times because we like the spacious family accommodation which includes one double room and a separate room with bunk beds for our two children. The views from the rooms and the breakfast room / restaurant are wonderful. And with a tasty breakfast on offer too this makes a great place to stay as a stop over or to use as a base to explore the amazing beaches close by.
Review 113:We were very disappointed that knowing we were booked in on our return, we were not told that we would need to book the restaurant because of the Fete d'Onions. Parking is a nightmare, particularly for the disabled.
Review 114:We liked the staff who were very helpful. On our previous stat two weeks before we had a very good meal in the hotel restaurant.
Review 115:there was nothing i didn't like
Review 116:The staff were friendly & helpful. They spoke in english. Our room overllooked sea,it was clean,up to date and comfortable.Hotel is really close to shops & restuarants, secure parking available, which was easy to find & worth the 10 euros especially on the bank holiday
Review 117:The parking was difficult and we had to take chances on being caught even though I had a disability badge. We were disappointed that we were not warned about the onion fete and that we needed to book the restaurant in advance. We had to eat out both nights.
Review 118:We found the reception staff very helpful, particularly Aliezee
Review 119:Could not have a night cap at 9.30 pm on return to hotel from dinner out as service was fini this hotel dining room has a spectacular sea view what a shame guests can not enjoy it as the sun sets
Review 120:Parking can be reserved in advance which is really important in roscoff
Review 121:breakfast was overly expensive, we walked 5 min down the road and had breakfast for for half the price of one.
Review 122:it was easy to access from the ferry, the hotel was comfortable ,modern and a short walk from bars and restaurants.
Review 123:Staff quizzed my husband about the age of our daughter (14) and said their definition of children was 12 and under. As a result he worried that we would be charged extra for the suite, even though I had declared my daughter's age when booking. They tried to charge us for 3 breakfasts we'd not had. Bathroom door had no lock and did not stay shut reliably.
Review 124:Family Suite was spacious and well-furnished with views to church (from main bedroom) and harbour (from bathroom). Car Park was convenient and access arrangements clearly explained. Staff kindly allowed us to use car park for a couple of extra hours after check out.
Review 125:We had the cheaper room with side seaview ! Now it would pay more for a larger room !
Review 126:Very friendly staff, beautifull location in the center, wonderfull seaview at breakfasttabel !
Review 127:The seagull on my window ledge first thing and the fact that the blinds did not quite close thus allowing some light in. The evaporated milk on the tea/coffee tray.
Review 128:The welcome and service. The room and view. The breakfast.
Review 129:Very small room, there would have been no space for a large suitcase. Room hot and stuffy despite having the window open.
Review 130:Excellent location with the advantage of secure parking (for which you have to pay). Good restaurant.
Review 131:A very relaxing hotel with excellent views, ideally situated for sightseeing a lovely little town. Breakfast at the hotel was perfect, so much choice would book again if I was in the area.
The Fine Print
Please note that restaurant must be booked in advance.
