Reviews for Bicester Hotel, Golf & Spa
Review 1:All the staff were very helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them which made our stay very pleasant. Hotel and facilities are excellent along with great food.
Review 2:There was no mini bar, no wine glasses in the room for in-room dining/wine. The rooms need a make over they are basic and not at all value for money. I could stay 5* in the city for better value - its way too expensive for what it is. Also I dont believe I was given an executive room at £175 - if I was - it needs a serious make - over. I was charged exec, though!
Review 3:it was a retreat from the city and it was quiet and peaceful.
Review 4:The breakfast room lacked atmosphere and was quite noisy. Good selection of breakfast items - shame about the screechy chairs.
Review 5:Spa was lovely - great facilities and very clean. Room was comfortable.
Review 6:I didn't have a bad experience but I think the direction to the hotel could be clearer as when you arrive in the dark it's quite difficult to find
Review 7:We ordered room service and it arrived really quick and it was amazing service
Review 8:There was no availability for any spa treatments for both the days we were there, so if you are booking the hotel purely for relaxation then pre-book treatments. Restaurant was a bit pricey but they also have a bar menu to sit and eat in the bar lounge. Staff wasn't very friendly but everything else was very good.
Review 9:Very new spa facilities, the upgraded room was very big and bed comfortable. Close to Bicester village mall, cooked breakfast was very good. Good value for money.
Review 10:1. Reception had us wait 10 minutes on arrival while she was on phone call 2. spa treatment was fully booked for the following day. 3. Rooms had a smell, and overpriced 4. we wanted two single beds, but gave us double bed
Review 11:1. the food was quite nice
Review 12:Very clinical feeling to the hotel, staff took over 10 minutes to even acknowledge us when we checked in. Room service stated that pizza came with a salad, when arrive the salad consisted of a few leaves shoved on top of the pizza. The hotel is not cheap, but is not meeting the standard you would expect when paying that money.
Review 13:Location was very nice
Review 14:The pool and spa was closed, which was one of the only reasons we booked this hotel. The hotel insist should have been on Booking.com's website, but when inspected a bit closer, it was at the very end of the page, in a closed tab. For a hotel with "spa" in the name, we feel that such information should be on the front page.
Review 15:Close to Bicester village. Nice breakfast.
Review 16:our turkey dinner was of okay standard, but disappointed with frozen sprouts in DECEMBER!!...lacking taste all round..
Review 17:our 2 night stay was comfortable...the staff were all very pleasant and helpful
Review 18:Found some of the staff very rude & we weren't made aware that the bar was for "golfers" only. Whilst we were aware that the pool was unavailable it wasn't made clear that the spa area was too which we found very disappointing.
Review 19:Couldn't fault the room but then we did pay that bit extra for a deluxe room.
Review 20:Driving around for long time in dark trying to find it also staff didn't answer phone when ringing for directions n didn't get a morning call n missed breakfast n pool wasn't open
Review 21:Bed was comfy
Review 22:Dull and drab bars and restaurant very uninspiring! Spa below average, no changing rooms, no robes and cold in treatment rooms!!
Review 23:rooms were clean, staff friendly
Review 24:Very dissapointed because we booked double rooms with twin beds but ended up with one bed meaning we had to share beds!!We are all married so that was very awkward! We had also booked a dinner table in advance but we didn't get one and ended up in the corridor where they set us a random table. No candles either. Food also run out out. It was a total disaster and a dissapointment not forgetting we had all travelled for more than 2 hours and hadn't seen each other for a while. Really ruined our weekend !!
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:Staff was not friendly at Reception desk / Breakfast. Breakfast was not big deal Post code of the area was at the back of the Hotel and was diffecult to find the Enterence with GPS
Review 27:Close to the B/Village OUTLET Room was nice and Big
Review 28:Staff were really helpful and we had a lovely welcome on arrival. our room was upgraded for us and was really comfortable and spacious. the pool and spa area was amazing. food was delicious - what more could you ask for. will definitely go again.
Review 29:I had told the hotel it was our 10 year anniversary and had asked for the chef to write a discreet happy anniversary on our pudding plates. This didn't happen and no mention of our anniversary was made. Food was trying to be special and was average. I asked for a gin and tonic and got just that no ice no lemon so I had to ask for that! Staff were pleasant but didn't know the basics, even our cutlery was put the wrong way round, menu had to be asked for 3 times, staff are young and obviously have no or little training. Such a shame as what could have been a great experience was poor apart from the spa
Review 30:the spa facilities were great
Review 31:Didn't feel it was value for money, restaurant was extortionate and I came away still hungry. The 'suite' at £250 didn't even have a mini bar / fridge, found the spa to be very average and was disappointed to find facilities put of use and kids splashing around in there.
Review 32:A la carte menu was limited and a starter was not properly cooked. No tea or coffee offered after meal
Review 33:Friendliness of staff, location, cleanliness, plenty of free parking, free wifi
Review 34:It was a little bit difficult to find in the dark and sat nav takes you to back entrance.
Review 35:Nice hotel. We weren't there long enough to use the facilities but I am sure they would have been nice. Good breakfast although the venue was a little bit cateenish which was disappointing.
Review 36:We went down to the bar/pub which was also very dated when I polite older woman served us, as we ordered our drinks a young worker behind the bar was swearing. Employees of a 5 star hotel should not be using that language in front of customers.
Review 37:I booked a super deluxe double room for one night. In the picture that what provided before my booking had a 4 poster double bed. On arrive we had a old fashioned very dated bed. The room was nice a spacious but there was nothing to suggest it was deluxe...deluxe means high quality and for £185 for one night stay I feel it did not meet my expectations.
Review 38:If you order room service after the chef has gone home, be sure to be very precise about what you want and don't assume the night reception staff will know what is on the menu.
Review 39:New rooms, easy parking, nearby Bicester Village.
Review 40:Carpet in room was stained and room was tatty Swimming pool was out of order due to chlorine levels Staff were helpful but didn't go the extra mile
Review 41:How close it is to Bicester shopping The food is very good quality.
Review 42:It was lacking in atmosphere and character. The bar and restaurant were deserted in the evening, which seemed odd
Review 43:The spa facilities were great, with a decent sized pool. Conveniently located for Bicester Village Retail Outlet
Review 44:Had a meal in the restaurant, where I'd ordered filet steak. The steak had fat and gristle on it. I told the manager who asked if I'd like to order something different to which I answered 'no'. He told me that filet steak came with gristle and couldn't guarantee the next dish would be any better so maybe I should order something else! I wasn't very happy with his attitude and re-ordered the filet steak. It arrived long after my friends had finished eating. The food (once it arrives was good). The manager took the wine we had ordered off of our bill but I do think his attitude could have been better!
Review 45:Love the location and facilities and the value for money. I left something in my room after I'd checked out and received a call saying that housekeeping had found it. I was very grateful.
Review 46:A bottle of wine with your meal in the restaurant will cost you more that £20. Robbery!
Review 47:This was just a one night stop for us but it would have been a good hotel for a weekend break. Standard of food was very good, and it is the best hotel I've stayed at for having decent lighting in the bedroom.
Review 48:Very poor and Cold breakfast and lunch. Nice staff, but seriously lacked direction and training. Very poor management skills. Something needs to be done urgently. This could be a lovely venue.
Review 49:Nice Room
Review 50:Waited at the bar for ages only to be told that i had to go to another bar to get drinks, then waited for ages again as only 1 person serving at a busy time on Saturday night. The place need a good manager to check whats going on.
Review 51:Only small issue was the wardrobe position right opposite the bathroom door made it difficult for my husband to get his wheelchair into the bathroom. Simply moving the wardrobe down toward the tv unit would rectify this problem
Review 52:Lovely spacious wheelchair accessible room on ground floor with fabulous wet room. English breakfast cooked to order was quality! Complimentary late check out, due to time of hospital appointment at nearby Nuffield Hospital. Overall a very pleasant stay in luxury surroundings with friendly helpful staff
Review 53:Love the facilities here and also the restaurant food was fab . Would always stay here for a leisure break . Just down the road from Bicester outlet as well :)
Review 54:The quality of everything; room, food , restaurant and spa facilities, services was very average. I expected more from a 4 star property and it had no charm or personality.
Review 55:Convenience to Bicester Village
Review 56:We stayed to visit Bicester shopping village,to use he spa facilities and to visit nearby blenhim palace which was perfect for both! Huge breakfast and plenty of choice
Review 57:The breakfast, it's wasn't the best considering the price for an over nights stay. But that's just me being picky about fatty bacon and runny scrambled eggs.
Review 58:The executive double suite was very spacious, with lovely seating area over looking the golf course. The bathroom was adequate though I did like the small touch of face wipes in The bathroom (a woman would appreciates this) the bar staff were very accommodating and the gym facilities are exceptional
Review 59:A la carte food was expensive and choice limited due to garlic allergy. Constant hum in bedroom due to machinery rooms adjacent this affected quality of sleep
Review 60:Spa was lovely
Review 61:Just a minor point; our room service on the second night came roughly just over an hour late. Usually no problem, but it can be an issue for a type 1 diabetic such as myself. Would have expected a phone call to explain there is a delay, but there was no one on reception to answer the calls. Staff were apologetic but no explanation given. Other than this, it's still somewhere we'd love to come back and visit again.
Review 62:Beautiful hotel, conveniently located in a quiet and rural area but close enough to local attractions and ammenities. Room was very comfortable and spacious.
Review 63:the strobe lights from the function room, the thin walls (could hear other guests arguing), lack of loungers in spa/pool side. Dinner was tasty although for 3 courses and a bottle of wine I felt £140 for 2 was expensive. Breakfast was very low on stock, had to ask for more bread/croissants/fruit etc.
Review 64:staff were very helpful, we booked a double but when got to room it was a twin, they changed it very quickly. Room was clean, nice spa/pool area.
Review 65:Bar was slightly smelly, old carpet/fusty type smell. Small bar seating area, more like a cheap Holiday Inn. Overlooked water station/pumping works? Breakfast room was really cold.
Review 66:Room was nice, bathroom was clean and spacious and modern. Breakfast was nice.
Review 67:Couldn't get mobile phone signal on either of our phones unless we went to the car park . Sat Nav tries to take you down old closed off roads to get there so its a bit of a nightmare to find the place.
Review 68:Nice room , quiet and clean
Review 69:The discretionary 12.5% charge added to restaurant bill. It should be up to diners how much of a tip they leave. Diners will be reluctant to ask for it to be removed.
Review 70:Location, public areas and staff were very good.
Review 71:Breakfast room quite small and was very busy with lots of dirty tables that didn't get cleared.
Review 72:Very close to Bicester Shopping Village, plenty of parking.
Review 73:Impersonal. Did not feel a valued guest. Had to wait too long to check in at 12.30 AM(Midnight) on Sunday-day after booking. Was not told about separate breakfast-main restaurant not welcoming.
Review 74:Extensive grounds
Review 75:The spa was full so i couldn't get a treatment but i will prebook next time.
Review 76:Very helpful and friendly staff. Reasonable prices and excellent food and service. Extremely clean.
Review 77:The breakfast area is incredibly noisy with the tiled floors and constant scrapping on floor off chairs.Sounded like a school canteen.
Review 78:Loved the location to Bicester village and the cotswolds. Spa and pool facilities were outstanding. Room was a good size. Attention to detail could be slightly better.
Review 79:This is my fourth stay and the staff at breakfast are still hopeless. The whole experience is one of chaos and not a smile from any of the waitresses. If breakfast wasn't included in room rate would go elsewhere.
Review 80:Lovely room and my request of a first floor room was noted. Good location 5 mins from the M40.
Review 81:We thought we would stay here for our wedding night instead of a more basic hotel like our guests... what a big mistake!! When we finally arrived in our room, there was a loud clanging noise in the ceiling. The person on reception had to come and listen before they would move us. This ordeal took over 1hr and is not something you want to be doing at 1am on your wedding night. Staff got distracted with drunk guests asking for water instead of getting us into our room. This hotel really isn't value for money and I wouldn't stay there again if I was paid.
Review 82:This is a very expensive hotel room for very little luxury. I've stayed in far better hotels for half the price in the same area.
Review 83:Breakfast Could have had 1 or 2 more options but it was very good none the less.
Review 84:Everything, the staff where great, really friendly and professional!!! Stunning location and views!!! Highly recommend!!!
Review 85:Room was lovely and was downstairs, the outside area was pleasant too. Called the bar to ask for use of corkscrew and they cane to our room immediately and opened the bottle. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 86:The room didn't meet our expectstions, from looking at the pictures it was completely different. Our executive room was more like a standard room. Value for money is poor.
Review 87:The location was lovely! Breakfast was served quick and was good.
Review 88:The mattress needs replacing as you roll to the middle !
Review 89:Spa Staff were all very good. We had a slight delay waiting for our desserts at evening meal however the staff apologised and didn't charge for them
Review 90:The staff were not very helpful and after paying a lot of money to stay for one night we were only told on arrival that the restaurant was not open for that day. No reason was given for this.
Review 91:The treatments we had were lovely and food was nice. Room was also a very good size.
Review 92:My friend likes plain restaurant t food so we had to eat out every evening
Review 93:The spa and pool were lovely. The view from our room over the golf course was nice although neither of us are golfers.we will be coming again
Review 94:It was raining, no drop off area for bags, no assistance, no trolley, only a lift for the disabled. When Ron serviced on day 2 looked as if someone had then had a lie down on the bed. Key not worked second day. Long walk back to unhelpful reception. Never go back.
Review 95:Leaving.
Review 96:Well, I have returned, was there last year. Since last year the bar area have been extended, now the nice area in the bar is called the 19th hole, and we was told that area is the golf members and as just a hotel guest you should stay in the other area. The hotel guests get a smaller area, with no view of the beautiful golf course, just feels a bit crowded and if three of you want to eat, their is not not space unless you are luck and get one of just a few square tables. I get that a golf club likes to have an area for the golf memembers but it seems at the expense of the hotel guest. Would probably never notice if you have not stayed here before, so I probably sound like I am just a complaining
Review 97:Nice spa, swimming pool, location
Review 98:The staff on reception were rude and not helpful. We asked if out room was ready at 12.50 and we were simply told that check in was not till 2pm. No one checked.
Review 99:All good!
Review 100:We loved how new and modern the hotel room and spa was. Staff were all lovely and happy to help. We loved the surrounding countryside and the nearby pub called the red cow which served great ales and food.
Review 101:We came from Sussex to spend our 30th wedding Anniversary ,and I mentioned it when I booked this.,but when we arrived and left there was nothing said or welcoming, and as for our room view was something to be desired.( check it out your self room 38 ) my wife was in tears. Thanks a lot £175 well spent. Next time I'll book into Premier in. Least they ask you in morning if you had a good night sleep or money back Guaranteed.
Review 102:Good location of hotel and surrounding golf area.
Review 103:Staff at breakfast, need to smile and want to be working instead of being miserable. Also had porridge and was made to feel I had to order my cooked breakfast, as on three occasions I said I would order after eating my porridge and my cooked breakfast arrived as I was eating my porridge!!
Review 104:The spa and gym facilities were very good
Review 105:A small cooked breakfast for the price. A bit shabby around the edges. Poor service on the busy reception - not enough staff.
Review 106:Comfortable room, nice bed linen.
Review 107:Food portions were very bad, our meal came out cold the first time, sent it back & it was bought back out after obviously being put in the microwave with even smaller portions. The manager did take this of our bill.
Review 108:Spa facilities were very good although we were not given robe & slippers had to ask twice. Very clean rooms & comfortable rooms.
Review 109:To pay £30.00 for a bottle of wine excellent choice but to be charged a surcharge of 10 persent and then have to pour the wine our selves what was the surcharge for.
Review 110:The quality of the food in the restaurant was first class
Review 111:The food in the restaurant was in one word Terrible! The salad looked like it had been in de fridge all day and the steak was watery like it was warmed in the microwave. This was certainly not fresh food!
Review 112:Good location, Nice rooms, Good breakfast
Review 113:Staff unpleasant, we had a ground floor room from which we could see rats running across a service road to get to the waste cooking oils and food left out Breakfast was poor with the food looking dried out and old Avoid!!!!
Review 114:Requested room next to each other, was given one room on the ground floor and the other upstairs, our room ( downstairs ) was next door to the cleaners room and they were very inconsiderate!! They woke us up with slamming doors, loud conversations both each other and phone calls.if you are given room 27 ask for another!!!! Room also had a broken toilet seat and shower button, also had tea stains on walls
Review 115:Facilities were excellent
Review 116:No answer for room service when called and no answer from the reception. My 82 year old grandmother needed some food to take her tablets...good job she had some biscuits in her bag.
Review 117:Great location, view, surroundings and comfort.
Review 118:1. We booked to stay for the close proximity to Blenheim Palace as advertised on their website but in actual fact the taxi was £55 return journey. 2. We requested that the hotel pre book our taxi. They failed to do it. They said they could see the request but they hadn't bother to book it. 3. Our room was a disabled room with shower only. room 25. The safety handles are corroded in the shower area. 4. The light fitting over the shower was detached from the ceiling and the bare wires were hanging loose. I called reception to ask for another room because the shower wasn't safe but the woman on reception said they were full but they would send maintenance out. 5. We arrived back late and the light fitting was still hanging so we couldn't use the shower. When I mentioned this to the chap on reception in the morning he said oh that's not good are you shopping in Bicester today I said no I am going home for a shower he said Oh OK I will be getting maintenance out to fix it today as if that would make a difference to us.......... 6. Chap said he would get the duty manager to call me..............no call as yet......2 days later.........
Review 119:The hotel rooms are lovely and clean and bright and the location if you play golf looks wonderful. The owner seems to really care and has oil portraits of the members in the bar. They are lovely and give the place the feeling of a club. The late night bar man was excellent.
Review 120:the breakfast was cooked to order and there was a nice selection of homemade bread and cold fruits etc. The pool, gym and Spa have a lot of natural light and are of a good size. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Review 121:We were heading for a concert at Blenheim Palace. It took us 18 minutes from the hotel so location was very good. Staff were efficient and friendly and the breakfast was excellent with friendly staff in the Brasserie. Overall a very pleasant stay.
Review 122:The hotel has a great location near Oxford Uni and Bicester village. Our room is quiet, spacious and comfortable. We spent a night there to rest and relax and did get what we wanted.
Review 123:Very rude staff on reception and duty manager. We had misunderstanding re a £26 allowance each towards our dinner. After checking by phone direct to hotel and after making our booking and asking the Head of the restaurant if we were eligible for the discount and in both cases told yes. When it came to settling our bill we were told we were not eligible and had to pay the full amount. After one hour of discussions and debate and now 3 people from hotel involved, we were threatened that if we did not settle the bill in full they would call the police! These people were extremely rude and tried to say that we were lying about the information we had been given and because there was nothing in writing, we had no choice to pay. The way they conducted themselves, which was in the foyer for any public to listen to. This was a very embarrassing and disappointing situation that totally spoilt the weekend and my surprise present to my husband for his 50th birthday. The staff behaved in an appalling and disgusting manor and were no way prepared to see our point of view or even compromise and meet us half way. The whole thing was handled in such away that I could not believe we were being shouted at and spoke to as if we were having a family domestic! Where was the customer service throughout all of this. Anyone that reads this review, please make sure you get written confirmation of any discounts or changes of bookings, as without these you do not have a leg to stand on! I would not be recommending this hotel to anyone as not only did we have issues, but other guests were not happy when they checked and had no robes! Avoid this Hotel at all costs its not what it seems and definitely not 4*. Could not even manage to wipe the bird poo off the outside tables, real class!!
Review 124:Location good for Bicester Village and not too far to Oxford. Food was very good in both Bar and Restaurant. Spa and treatments were nice.
Review 125:On checking in we received no information ie spa area restaurant area etc etc On going to the spa to see if we could book a treatment we were told by by three staff standing there that they were booked up ?? Maybe it could be suggested at time of booking the importance of early booking Also whilst having a drink my daughter was shouted at by one of the crèche staff that it was a no smoking area !! Other guests near us thought it very rude to speak to a guest this way Also whilst we sat there three notices were put up in regards to no smoking !! The staff from the crèche also continued to stare at us I felt this was not acceptable hospitality
Review 126:Room and spa area
Review 127:The layout of the rooms aren't great as all power supplies are away from the bed. I had booked a double bed but instead had 2 single beds pushed together.
Review 128:The hotel as a whole is excellent and I find the gym and facilities above normal expected standard
Review 129:Check in staff poor with little of no guidance on location of rooms. No warm welcome. A little out of the way for business users. Room service food was average at best.
Review 130:The restaurant really let the hotel down it was very overpriced, and the bar could do with some music
Review 131:The hotel was lovely and the staff very friendly had everything we needed
Review 132:Nothing bad at all, but staff on reception could have been a little more forthcoming with greetings and information
Review 133:Spa and swimming facilities were fantastic, best I've had in a hotel where I wasn't actually on a spa break! My room also opened up straight onto a gorgeous centre garden, which was beautiful
Review 134:Rooms where basic and travelodge like also the rooms was spread out in blocks added on to hotel and required you to walk outside to get to your room. Not great if raining or cold. Breakfast was a set menu and not a normal buffet, I thought breakfast was basic and greasy. Spa was nice but it's not sectioned off from main pool and to get extra income they hire out pool to swimiming lessons for kids. Not great if trying tor relax in peace in the spa. Definitely not if you book a spa day with friends. Felt sorry for a group of women on exactly that when we where there.
Review 135:Hotel was ok, Spa was nice
Review 136:Reception staff need more training - some bad errors made No spa appointments available for guests
Review 137:Excellent restaurant food and staff Comfortable bed Quiet location
The Fine Print
Travel Information: Driving towards Chesterton along Green Lane, the hotel driveway is the next left after the buildings marked WIG.
