Reviews for Woodside - Sundial Group
Review 1:Security doors leading to rooms seem to be open everywhere without the need to swipe key cards, Facilities were a bit dated.
Review 2:Staff were great, good location, swimming pool
Review 3:Professional staff & full hotel service. Well-equipped and comfortable room. Country surroundings very restful. Excellent facilities with pool & gym.
Review 4:Nothing !
Review 5:Everything - excellent, friendly and attentive staff; superb food; comfortable accommodation; nearness to historic sites and commercial centres.
Review 6:Bathroom was a little worn and room was quite small.
Review 7:Beautiful hotel in gorgeous grounds. Lovely view from our room overlooking the golf course in a quiet location.
Review 8:Some of the more in-experienced and younger staff need to learn that the customer pays their wages !! I will forgive the fire alarm going off at 03.00hrs. Not the staff or the hotel's fault.
Review 9:Many of the staff were helpful and friendly and where professional. The room was great and the food in the restaurant was generally excellent.
Review 10:Despite turning off radiators the hotel was rather hot.
Review 11:Lovely staff and really helpful as I had informed them in advance of gluten free AND vegetarian preferences!
Review 12:Room wasn't 4* by our standard, did raise it with the hotel and they responded positively. Was fine for a one night stay and a lick of paint and better cleaning will sort the room issue! Would recommend for a cheap easy night away.
Review 13:The facilities are great, pool is fab, clean and warm! Breakfast was ok, staff were friendly and very helpful when we complained about the cleaniliness of our room
Review 14:The staff was friendly and helpful the food was delicious, and the room very comfortable and clean. Couldn't have asked for more, and all at a very reasonable price.
Review 15:Noisy, inconsiderate other guests( a wedding party) at 2, 3, 4 in the morning. Perhaps room sound proofing could be improved.
Review 16:Value for money, reasonable room.
Review 17:The pool area and sauna was better than in similar types of hotels. Clean pool, warm water with spare, clean towels. Room service and reception welcome was good. Bed comfortable and bedding fresh.
Review 18:A few cobwebs, and bed wasn't the most comfortable but overall was clean & cosy.
Review 19:The staff were very friendly & helpful, the location was beautiful & the room was good value.
Review 20:Had to leave main hotel building to reach our room in annexe, which was rather small.
Review 21:Excellent customer service from the staff. Lots of choice at breakfast and fantastic food.
Review 22:Tired decoration in room which was also on the small side. Shower pressure was not good.
Review 23:Staff are always helpful and efficient. Swimming pool and gym are a bonus.
Review 24:We both have disability issues with walking, but were initially given a 1st floor room in an annex with no lift. The ground floor room we were then given was very shabby, with dirty carpets and furniture, obviously this room was set up for disabled guests, but it made us feel 2nd class & we didn't matter. Thank goodness it was for one night.
Review 25:The potential of this hotel is clear to see, in it's rural & quiet location. Pity about the lack of investment!
Review 26:Rooms suffer from noise coming from above ans adjoining rooms
Review 27:Great location for a little peace away from main roads etc and a good place to travel to Warwick
Review 28:The main restaurant was not open (which we were not informed about prior to our arrival) so had to eat in the bar, from the bar menu which was a little disappointing as it was our anniversary and we had planned to have a romantic meal. Bedroom decor needs updating for the room we were allocated as we have stayed in better rooms on previous visits.
Review 29:Quiet location, excellent friendly and helpful staff, good facilities, wonderful food.
Review 30:Not any offer of veggy option breakfast until I asked when I was offered veggy sausages 9thank-you) Meanwhile rest of breakfast went cold, why not have a few veggy sausages at the ready?
Review 31:After a long journey / day, we were greeted with a warm smile by a lovely, helpful receptionist - Thank-you. Comfy rooms, helpful staff and a WARM swimming pool. Food good in bar. Lovely gardens.
Review 32:The bed was to soft for me. The reception gave a good impression, but the rooms could do with a bit of new paint.
Review 33:The hotel is set in its grounds which are lovely. The swimming pool and gym are excellent and the breakfast was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly.e
Review 34:No draught beer in the bar - taken off to serve in the main hotel bar because there was a wedding!! TV in the bar area (you can watch TV in your room!)
Review 35:Friendly and helpful staff, Food - both the Breakfast and the Bar Meals, Quiet in the room, Exercise Room, Clean and tidy.
Review 36:Room service excellent, pool 7 sauna excellent, lovely comfy room, lovely quiet location, excellent breakfast, friendly helpful staff and all at a very reasonable price !
Review 37:I didn't have a shower as the hot water only came through as tepid after leaving the tap on for quite some time. Plumbing needs investigating.
Review 38:Evening meal was lovely. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast very nice
Review 39:Last time I stayed (last year) I was given a very small room but was happy to see this year that it was much bigger and much more comfortable
Review 40:The location, breakfast and bar dinner is brilliant.
Review 41:There was nothing to not like about the hotel.
Review 42:The food was excellent. The staff were very helpful. Thoroughly recommend the hotel for a peaceful and relaxing stay.
Review 43:Feel the banister going up to the rooms is a health and safety risk to young / small children, who could easily slip through. This needs urgent attention!!!!!!!!
Review 44:Breakfast staff were lovely very efficient and friendly. Praise indeed to the manager of this area.
Review 45:Wardrobe too close to bed caused party member to stub their toe and difficulty flushing toilet on occasions.
Review 46:Breakfast in the conservatory in woodland setting.
Review 47:Nothing, it exceeded my expectations greatly.
Review 48:Fantastic value for a night away, tasty, generous nicely cooked breakfast, a good pool and excellent service.
Review 49:None
Review 50:1. The dining room, staff, and quality of breakfast.2. The helpfulness of ALL staff - not one let the side down. 3. I have stayed at 3 other locations in or near Kenilworth and Woodside is by far the best.
Review 51:We were put in courtyard block with wedding guests who were coming back into their rooms & back out again on & off from when we went to bed 11.00pm & overflow car outside our window . The rest of our party in completely different area & slept fine .
Review 52:It's location very very nice
Review 53:The room looked like a converted university room. It was extremely small. The mirror was also in a weird place if you wanted to get ready/see yourself. It was quite expensive and it was a shame that you aren't shown to your room and just told very basic instructions. Also room looks onto public car park, I'd recommend getting some frosted glass so that you don't have to close the curtains which makes the room feel even smaller when using the room lights. The shower in the pool is freezing cold, not brilliant. There were no pool towels? For £80p/n I expected a little bit more professional touches.
Review 54:The pool was good. The shower was absolutely freezing!!!
Review 55:No towels available in changing room - stayed 3 nights. Was informed that some people use more than one. In that case - there should have been regular checks and towels provided if necessary. For cost - room needs a bit of TLC. Looking a little weary.
Review 56:Large single bed, breakfast and setting.
Review 57:Beautiful location off the beaten track. Felt very safe with the gated entrance. All staff very friendly and polite. Although the room was small it was well equipped and the fittings were very good quality. Will return as we regularly travel on the M6.
Review 58:But standard bedroom a bit basic (especially for price)/room a bit tired/ bed on the soft side.
Review 59:Very good facilities/service/food/ vfm for a large family get-together.
Review 60:TV reception was poor, but of little consequence.
Review 61:Booking was made for a judge coming to judge the British Boxer Club Championship Show. She reported.Excellent throughout. Will remember in future that if I have to book for someone older to ask for ground floor room
Review 62:The double room was not particularly cheap, it had been nicely refurbished but was tiny. You couldn't walk passed each other anywhere in the room
Review 63:Excellent breakfast, friendly staff and the garden is nice for the sort of outdoor event we had organized
Review 64:Initial confusion about the room that we had booked, but this was down to an error by Booking.com
Review 65:Immediate intervention by the general manager (Jerry) to ensure that everything was put right. When the TV in the room went on the blink a new one was purchased and fitted. Very attentive staff in the restaurant and the food was excellent.
Review 66:The security of the accommodation wing was weak - outside door open continuously
Review 67:Very peaceful location with good facilities and helpful staff - food was good. although it was set up for its main business as a conference centre and wedding venue this did not detract from its role as a hotel
Review 68:Nice hotel on the outskirts of Kenilworth. Convenient to the venue we were partying at. Would certainly be a good place for a longer stay in the area. Helpful and attentive staff. Very good breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
Review 69:The restaurant food was poor and the staff were struggling to cope.. When I checked out I mentioned the bad meal and the man on reception said and did nothing, I missed breakfast on the Sunday as I felt ill. I liked the hotel but found the staff unhelpful and the food very poor...
Review 70:The setting and location were lovely.
Review 71:The restaurant was so overpriced for what it was, and it's quite far away for any cheap alternatives to be easily accessible
Review 72:The swimming pool was great. The hotel is also based in a nice, quiet location. The reception staff were great, though there was an instance where a member of the serving staff was rude (probably a misunderstanding).
Review 73:2 of the young ladies who were at the bars and on the breakfast weren't pleasant, looked like they didn't really want to be there!
Review 74:The breakfast was fantastic, staff at breakfast weren't so pleasant, but the reception staff were amazing and couldn't help enough. We had a relaxing lovely time and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Review 75:Our bathroom could have been cleaner.
Review 76:A place in the bar area to work at a table quietly occasionally during the day. A quiet place for a drink at the end of the day in the bar. Grounds were lovely to walk around. Pool. Wifi access easy.
Review 77:The bedroom window had cars parked immediately outside so one could ing even stand in the room without people constantly looking in, noisy from upstairs and car park, dirty grouting and skirting in the bathroom, half filled toiletries. Overflowing cigaret bin that stank right by the entrance to the building. Smell of chlorine as you enter the block.
Review 78:We were given a room in a side building, which looked like a cheap motel. Halfway through the narrow corridor, the carpets change to this shabby pink one, making the place look worse than a hostel. Inside, however the room was decent. We arrived late and went to the bar and the bartender looked like he didn't want to be there. We had him again serving us breakfast and the attitude was the same. When he prepared a table for us, it was still dirty from previous people's use.
Review 79:The location
Review 80:Room was on the small side , Breakfast was very poor , why do Hotels insist on the Buffet Style Breakfast , how difficult is if for a Hotel this size to cook Breakfast to Order ?
Review 81:lovely staff, comfy beds.
Review 82:There are 2 different sections of the hotel - the newer rooms appear to be fine but I was allocated a room in the old part which was heavily dated and felt like staying in an old peoples home. Disappointing considering the cost.
Review 83:The corridor in the Annex building could do with being revamped. The bedroom was very small, although adequate, and the small bathroom was a little shabby.
Review 84:Pleasant and helpful staff. Dinner was good and very reasonably priced, and they had green tea!
Review 85:A few steps leading to lower bar so not quite wheelchair friendly but there was good access from the back via courtyard, however I am not in a wheelchair!
Review 86:Set in countryside loads of rabbits and squirrels. Good parking. Comfy room although separate to main building. Great little bar and staff very friendly and helpful. Bar food was excellent!
Review 87:we have used woodside for at least the last 4 years while visiting the stoneleigh show ground it is very close with excellent facility's and very helpful staff.
Review 88:Not that we didn't like just a bit more variety on the bar menu wouldn't have gone a miss. maybe over the week end a friday menu and saturday menu varried to say a sunday menu.
Review 89:The swimming pool and the sauna a bonus.
Review 90:communal changing area of the pool was a bit of a surprise!
Review 91:lovely comfortable bed staff are good breakfast was very good - even with me arriving 3 minutes before end of service the staff were very polite and accommodating in plating up an extra cooked breakfast for me. check in and checkout efficient
Review 92:Pretty good value overall and would stay again. The astroturf tennis court had no net and the sauna seemed to need an hour to warm up: minor disappointments for a 'leisure break'.
Review 93:Good breakfast and new firm bed Warm 15m swimming pool Quiet (apart from A46 traffic hum) out of town location
Review 94:Room was in a block at side of main building, which meant we had to cross car park to go to restaurant, room was worn with only 1bedside cabinet, broken bath panel and scruffy carpet. Table that we booked in brasserie had not been booked even though we checked three times and were told on each occasion it was ok. On arrival in brasserie we were told that they couldn't take any more bookings, they eventually gave us a table in restaurant with brasserie menu. Very disappointing stay.
Review 95:Food was good
Review 96:The sauna was cold but we were the only ones using it so it would be wasteful to keep it on but empty
Review 97:The best no nonsense wifi I've ever experienced. So important when you're trying to conduct business away from home. No faffing about, phones & tablets connected straightaway and good download speeds
Review 98:The staff were a bit too formal to make me feel comfortable
Review 99:The facilities were great. I enjoyed sole use of the pool and sauna. I also enjoyed the breakfast which was exceptional and catered well for my vegetarian requirements
Review 100:Hot breakfast a little short on supplies in certain areas, i.e. only one two eggs and about 4 rashers of bacon in their respective receptacles, at the time of our visit to the buffet. Step and puddles on walk to room 18 block, could be re-profiled i.e remove step and re tarmac.
Review 101:Location, nearness to Abbey, helpful taxi arrangement, real ale in bar for night cap.
Review 102:As we were the only guests, they hadn't set out the full breakfast, so we had to keep asking for things, but they were all brought for us
Review 103:Excellent food, really friendly staff, great that the pool is open 24/7
Review 104:We only stayed the one night, so didnt have the chance to check out all the facilities, but we dined in the restaurant and had breakfast the next morning and both were very good. Lovely building and beautiful grounds.
Review 105:The reception team and restaurant staff were really friendly and helpful. We got to enjoy the leisure facilities and had both the pool and gym to ourselves. Good quality breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable albeit a little basic.
Review 106:Struggled to get into the bath to use the overhead shower. Room cold when I turned in but woke later far too hot. Although stayed there on several occasions it was more difficult to find in the dark. Dinner menu limited.
Review 107:Lovely grounds, very good breakfast.
Review 108:The rooms are dated and smelled of old people, not fresh. They're also on the small size.
Review 109:The staff were nice and helpful. Swimming pool good size but changing facilities not nice and there were no towels. It took 20 min for somebody to bring some towels.
Review 110:Second night in bar not so great. Barman was more interested in the phone than servicing us.
Review 111:Lovely breakfast. Very Quiet. Bar food for great. First night in bar great service from Adam.
Review 112:Very warm rooms ,poor lighting in car park ,lack of towels at pool.Misleading when booking as accommodation not in main building.
Review 113:Swimming pool and sauna quiet, very good service from manager.friendly staff
Review 114:there was a noise, probably coming from some ventilator, that kept going on throughout the night. the sound isolation was not great in general.
Review 115:the location was very beautiful, (although away from the center) breakfast was excellent and the staff very kind, helpful and professional. would definately return here!
Review 116:bad nights sleep on my first visit due to the hissing of the rads all night, system needed bleeding very noisy.2nd visit on my return journey basic bedroom, loud humming of a generator all night.Ate in Brassiere first visit menu all mixed up,didn't get what was on the menu given something else instead of being informed
Review 117:Easy to park, well looked after, nice grounds, good bedroom first visit. reported problem of rads, staff courteous and a total refund offered. Very pleasant d/room good breakfast, plenty of choice, quick service
Review 118:Entrance to accomodation not welcoming. Only negative notices and needing better night light outside. Ie. Welcome to Pine Lodge. Then at top of stairs notices about being quiet, no smoking etc
Review 119:Rooms had all convinces didn't have to ask for anything. Well insulated from traffic and good heavy curtains keep out lights. Bathroom lovely and clean including shower ( hot water fluctuated a little) pool excellent.
Review 120:Room booked didn't have the extra bed requested.
Review 121:The speed that the situation of the lack of extra bed was sorted out. we also liked the swimming pool, which we had to ourselves.
Review 122:Accommodation block like student dorms! The room was very basic, drab, and so poky you had to turn sideways to walk between bed and wardrobe. The coffee was not replenished. The bar was shut at 11:30 on saturday night when we returned for a nightcap. We were forced to return to the room to get the key to order drinks on our bill, leaving the other person without electric. Worst 4* I've ever stayed in
Review 123:Nice small bar and dining areas, decent breakfast.
Review 124:Rooms are like student halls and leisure facilities filthy. Were told the large rooms shown on site are at another location
Review 125:Breakfast was good and friendly staff
Review 126:Building that bedrooms and pool were in felt shabby and not in keeping with the price paid (especially the corridors). Adverts gave impression main building was where the accommodation would be. Toiletries had not been replaced in the bathroom.
Review 127:Pool, sauna, bar, grounds
Review 128:My main gripe was the pillow. A normal sized pillow had been stuffed into a narrower-than-usual pillow case resulting in a very hard, lumpy and uncomfortable pillow. There weren't any other pillows to choose from so it was that or nothing. Also, as the rooms were accessed from outside the main building, the carpet was rather grubby.
Review 129:The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. The main building is lovely - old style grandeur brought up to date and set in picturesque grounds. Plenty to choose from at breakfast. The bacon was particularly good. Again, in pleasant surroundings. I would recommend this hotel for an over night stay
Review 130:the only negative we really have is the cleanliness this could be improved on.
Review 131:overall we had a good experiance at the woodside friendly staff good food nice location what you would expect from a two or three star hotel, we would go back as it was a great location for our purpose.
Review 132:Hotel is lovely, stayed her for a weekend. Great location, only 15 minutes from leamington, 5 minutes from Kenilworth. Scenery is lovely, managed to use the pool and sauna which were both excellent. The breakfast was one of the best i've had at a hotel, really can't fault the stay at all.
Review 133:Not what we expected - bit basic. Resturant closed due to function in afternoon. Feel of 1970s accommodation block, but comfortable room.
Review 134:Good breakfast and bar food. Pool size good - let down by poor changing area. Good free wifi Good value for the money
Review 135:I arrived early and didnt expect my room to be avalible, which would of been fine. The staff were very friendly and went to a lot of trouble to find me a room which was avalible. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was excellent and had a good selection to chose from. The grounds are beautiful and it was very peacful staying there.
Review 136:Would recommend only if you can stay in a room upstairs. In the downstairs room originally given to us, there were 5 spiders immediately visible before I even put my bags down. There were also very large spiders in the hallways. I know it's because it's a woodland venue, but there should be adequate steps in place to prevent it happening, such as sorting out the draughty doors and windows for a start. Getting a replacement room was trickier than it should have been. In most hotels, telling the reception that there were 5 large spiders in the room would have been met with shock and apologies. In this case, the man at reception barely acknowledged me, didn't say sorry, said he didn't have any other rooms (eventually said he did after 5 minutes of pleading- not sure what that was about?) and all he asked was "where are they in the room" which I rightly or wrongly translated to "if they're not on the bed what are you complaining about?" Anyway, from his reaction, it was clear it was a regular complaint. If they hadn't moved us to the other floor (where there were no spiders in the room) then I would have slept in the car and asked for my money back through booking.com
Review 137:The rest of the hotel and breakfast was great value for money.
