Reviews for Hôtel du Faisan Gare Saint-Jean
Review 1:We just needed a transit place for an early morning train, and it served this purpose perfectly. Great location right opposite the station, and very friendly staff with that! The rooms are simple, but clean with everything necessary for a short stay. Convenient also to restaurants etc.
Review 2:We had booked a double room and when we checked-in the receptionist offered us a twin room instead, when we insisted on a double bed he tried again to say would we not prefer a twin room for the same price. Shower broken. WiFi censored. Superior double consisted of a standard size double bed. Windows did not close properly and therefore we heard every drunken brawl in the streets below.
Review 3:Convenient to the station.
Review 4:No tea/coffee making facilities - would like to have seen these available.
Review 5:The location - very handy for trains, trams, buses and places to eat. I also thought the price of rooms reasonable and the staff friendly and relaxed.
Review 6:Was a bit noisy until trains stopped running. Not unbearable though.
Review 7:I got off the train and walked a couple of hundred yards to hotel then in morning walked another couple of hundred yards to catch bus to airport. Perfect
Review 8:Noisy drunk people spending night outside of hotel every night ,not fault of hotel but not great for us ! Also breakfast a bit limited in choice ,not value for money
Review 9:Friendly staff
Review 10:Superior double room booked. Bed is a very small double bed. Room was very basic. Noise at night from street was unbearable.Area is frequented by drunks and aggressive beggars with dogs. Hardly slept.
Review 11:24hr reception. Staff attentative
Review 12:There was quite a lot of noise from the street
Review 13:The staff were incredibly helpful. The location, literally just across the road from the railway station, was so convenient.
Review 14:General cleanliness poor One room had curtain rail hanging off so curtains could not be used. toilet in one room so small that it was almost impossible to use. response regarding curtain rail by staff was 'there are lots of things broken in the rooms'
Review 15:friendly staff location
Review 16:There was a terrible smell in our room which we figured out was coming from the bathroom but we don't know why. There were also bugs flying around everywhere. It was an extremely uncomfortable night because it just felt so gross. The carpet was in poor shape along with the rest of the problems. We will not be staying here again. They also gave us two twins pushed together instead of a queen sized bed or something more comfortable.
Review 17:Unnecessary changing of towels and soaps each day despite notices about saving the environment.
Review 18:Excellent location with friendly helpful staff. Good value for money, including the breakfast.
Review 19:The rooms are very tired, that a quick paint will no longer fix, which is a shame given the great location.
Review 20:Location is truly fantastic just across from the station; staff give a friendly welcome
Review 21:Was a bit nervous about the crowd that hung about the corner
Review 22:Staff were very helpful. Loved my room of 306 as I could sit and watch the world go by. Shower cubicle was a bit grubby on the silicone sealant but apart from that I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Review 23:Wifi in the room was a bit intermittent.
Review 24:Excellent location, opposite the train station and the tram line is right outside the door. Able to leave the luggage after we had checked out was really useful. Lovely view of the square from our 4th floor room.
Review 25:May be a tad noisy for light sleepers due to close proximity of the station, however, closing the windows helps a lot.
Review 26:Located conveniently across the road from the station. 2 restaurants downstairs - don't have to walk anywhere to find a place for a meal.....just what you need after a long train journey.
Review 27:With windows closed and ear plugs I had no trouble sleeping. However my room faced the train station and on a Thursday night "revelers" tend to literally scream and yell all night. As other guests have indicated, with windows open in summer this would have been a nightmare. If you can specifically request an inner or courtyard room you would be fine and this is a great place
Review 28:This hotel was so convenient- right across from the train station. Not real plush or updated but clean, comfortable and good shower. Shuttle to the airport is Navette which is right at the train station (hotel does not have a shuttle as listed, but the Navette is very easy). Staff were very friendly and helpful- spoke English out of either kindness or frustration with my French. Breakfast is convenient for a price.
Review 29:The hotel corridors and room were a little outdated and in need of some refurbishment. It's time for $$$ to be spent as it does look a little shabby. Issues with Internet free wifi.
Review 30:Great staff and comfortable bed. Great value for 77 euros.
Review 31:For the price we couldn't complain.
Review 32:Good location for those in transit and close to a very good all purpose restaurant. Surprisingly quiet (if you keep the windows shut - there is a ceiling fan) considering right by tram line and main Bordeaux station. Basic no frills facilities, small room but perfect for one night stay.
Review 33:Fire alarm went off at 2am and there was no friendly words of comfort for the people who were standing outside in the cold and rain ,so maybe a good PR move would have been breakfast on the house as a sorry for the inconvenience
Review 34:Price
Review 35:The rooms are not equipped with air conditioning and the ceiling fans are too slow. It is more of an interior decor than an appliance. And outdoors are cooler than being in the rooms. Another downside is the noise from the bars in the street that reaches the rooms.
Review 36:Location is just across the train station. Very convenient if you are traveling by train
Review 37:No air con in the rooms. There was a fan but all that did was push around warm air - the ceiling fan didn't work.
Review 38:Located right next to Gare St Jean this was the perfect place for us for our onward journey, Not far from the city centre and a short stroll from the Marche des Capucins
Review 39:To add a refrigerator will be good in summer.
Review 40:Very friendly front desk staffs, responsible and helpful, Lauriane, Jessica, Akle and the manager Regina made us felt very comfortable to stay. Many thanks. Location is great, just opposite to the train station.
Review 41:We had a room at the first floor on the main street and it was a little bit noisy. It is not located in the center, you need to take the tram/ the car to reach the center.
Review 42:The hotel is correct, clean, but a little outdated. The building is located just near the train station. You can find easy parking places in the area, however the parkings are not cheap at all. There are also a lot of bistros/ cafes to take breakfast around the hotel.
Review 43:No bad experiences. Difficult to ask for more at these prices.
Review 44:Friendly staff, good clean rooms and perfect for the traveller with the hotel being situated in front of the train station.
Review 45:Decoration was a little tired and the single bed was rather small.
Review 46:The staff were extremely helpful and spoke good English. Location superb. Excellent shower.
Review 47:Poor breakfast. Poor overall image. The price is too high for the content.
Review 48:Good place if you need to catch an early trsin or flight. Fast and reliable Internet.
Review 49:No aircon and room was too warm inside. Noisy from station across the road but we had earplugs.
Review 50:Location was very handy & easy to find. Staff friendly.
Review 51:It's dirty, dingy, and in an area that, while close to the train station, is akin to French Compton. Drunkards and addicts surround the hotel. The rooms are not just dated, but dirty and unloved. Bathrooms are made for hobbits. "Buffet breakfast" as they misleadingly called it is nothing but all you can eat crossaints. I can buy a lot of crossaints for €8, but why would I? Bedroom key was broken. Staff told me to be careful when I eat my pizza in the room - because surely they wouldn't want me adding to the stains. If this place charged hourly they would make a fortune. Too bad they try to be a real hotel. Unless you like to feel like a homeless criminal, look elsewhere.
Review 52:If I'm ever involved in a drug deal, this will be my first choice of venue.
Review 53:Rooms feel a bit "used" and were very hot - had to have window open and ceiling fan on.
Review 54:Great location. Very friendly staff. Bit of a bohemian feel.
Review 55:The room was dirty, and generally grotty, not a comfy bed, tiny bathroom (my knees touched the opposite wall when I sat on the loo!), and noisy. The breakfast wasn't worth the money, generally the hotel was lousy and not good value - in need of redecoration and a deep clean, wi-fi was intermittent and weak.
Review 56:If,like me you are arriving late by train, and need to leave early by train, the location is great.
Review 57:The fan in the room was not effective so had to open window to cool down and get air. Then it was extremely noisy in the room due to traffic, trams, trains and people.
Review 58:The location was good opposite the train station.
Review 59:Lot of noise on the street in the middle of the night. Bring your earplugs of you sleep with open windows.
Review 60:Nice location Facility to park your bicycle inside
Review 61:Considering that fact a double bed would have easily fitted, my single bed was very narrow. No international TV channels.
Review 62:Friendly staff and good location (right opposite the train station), if you don't mind homeless people and beggars trying to talk to you.
Review 63:I was o the fifth floor and the room was unbearably hot. The fan, a throwback to the fifties was totally ineffective. The bathroom was more like a cupboard. Not enormously clean. I booked four nights and stayed one. Went around the corner to ibis Budget where it was clean and had air con.
Review 64:The location, the wifi was good
Review 65:Very small bathroom, no air conditioning
Review 66:Great location next to train station, very friendly staff and we could leave our bags while visiting Dune du Pilat
Review 67:Although the overall review is very good, a few points could be improved: My room was a little small and the bathroom was narrow. The furniture was quite old. The bedspread was stained.
Review 68:The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The location is absolutely perfect, especially for travellers who do not know Bordeaux. Overall, the room was clean and the bathroom was cleaned every day.
Review 69:A bit noisy, but that's the downside of the location. Breakfast is not bad, but 8 euros is too much.
Review 70:Right next to Bordeaux Saint Jean station - can't be nearer
Review 71:As often the case with railway stations, at night the location is quite scary with the typical mix of dodgy individuals floating around. Being there the first week in August the heat in Bordeaux was almost unbearable. The ceiling fan was missing a blade and nearly came off as we switched it on so we decided to sleep with the window open. From the fire to the frying pan!... The mix of street noise and the mosquitoes resulted in little sleep and many mosquito bites. Also, the toilet was only separated from the bed area by a sliding glass door, which did very little for privacy. The winter duvet that we found on the bed as we arrived and that we immediately took off was also stained on the inside. If in Bordeaux, try to avoid this location and stay around the Quartier St. Pierre. It may be more expensive but you'll be able to enjoy the city at its best.
Review 72:The hotel is right beside station, which is great if you're getting into Bordeaux late at night like we were. The room itself was fine, not great but okay for the price.
Review 73:Stated steps from main rail station. NOT TRUE. Thanks to a older couple I would have struggled to find.
Review 74:Close to restaurants and a major street with shops.
Review 75:No traffic noise at all but unfortunately very loud (drunk?) group of young people outside shouting in front of the hotel until 6am! It would have been nice if the hotel porter had asked them to move on (or asked the railway security staff to do so!). Also, no mosquito nets or air-conditioning.. so very hot and bitey with the window open!
Review 76:Excellent location opposite Bordeaux station - perfect for our trip. Very helpful staff. Excellent value for money.
Review 77:The hotel has seen better days. We didn't think it was particularly clean and there was no useful furniture except for the bed. It is way too far from town and is dilipadated. We stayed overnight to catch a train the next morning.
Review 78:It's directly opposite the train station but a long way from town - although you can catch a tram to town 1.5 euros each journey. So it's not a place to stay if you want to be close to town.
Review 79:A down side to the suitable location is extreme noise from the trams, railway station and cafes below. Not good coverage with WIFI service. Could not hear the television with the window open, but needed it open for ventilation.
Review 80:The hotel suited us admirably as it was located in close vicinity to the railway station and the trams to the city.
Review 81:Dismal bedroom decor but not unusual for a cheap French hotel. Sometimes magnolia is a good option.
Review 82:Cheap and cheerful, right by the station and the staff were friendly. Being always on a tight budget this is all I ask for.
Review 83:Noisy late in the evening, not from traffic but people out in the street (just opposite the station)
Review 84:Pleasant and comfortable hotel and room; good breakfast, perfect location for me (travelling by plane and train). The airport bus goes to and from the train station opposite the hotel
Review 85:Breakfast disappointing. Choice of fruit left a lot to be desired. Apples and apricots over ripe and didn't change the whole 5 days I was there. Young girl on duty in the breakfast room had a cough and made no attempt to cover her mouth when she coughed. Disgusted.
Review 86:Reception staff very friendly and helpful
Review 87:Right outside train station and opposite the tram going into the city. Rooms a little small, but fine for a short stay. Staff very good, all spoke English and extremely helpful. Small supermarket nearby and pubs and restaurants surround the hotel., despite all this it is very quiet.
Review 88:There is no Air Conditioning in the room. Only a fan in the ceiling and it was hot so if you open the window it get really noisy because you are literally facing the central train station
Review 89:Location, Staff are excellent, atmosphere is professional yet friendly.
Review 90:Nice comfy bed with very clean private bathroom facilities. Directly opposite main train station so couldn't be a more useful location for a traveller. Everything was as stated and staff were helpful too.
Review 91:Very convenient located in front of station. It was easy to find the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful, all spoke good English. Liked the garden view from the breakfast room.
Review 92:Noisy, tiny room and bathroom - everything about the Hotel was old and needed refurbishing.
Review 93:Close to train station, trams and restaurants. Staff were very pleasant. Spoke excellent English.
Review 94:Rooms were small and the bathroom tiny with an odd door which didn't totally close. Creaky floors and only able to access WiFi in the foyer.
Review 95:Ease of access from the station was a great selling point. Rooms were adequate and fair value for a convenient place to stay.
Review 96:No plug in basin Outside facade and interior seen better days, but rooms fine.
Review 97:spacious, airy room - bathroom small but clean appreciated the call to our room from reception to ask if everything was satisfactory
Review 98:We had a lot of fruit flies in our room, but I'm not sure what that was about. As others have mentioned, the toilet in the rooms are quite laughable. Let's just say if you have long legs, use the washroom on the 1st floor... It's very spacious.
Review 99:We liked that the location was right by the train station, as we arrived and departed Bordeaux from the station. The staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful with of our questions. We arrived before check in and were able to store our bags. As well, our room was ready before the official check in time and they allowed us in early! The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The breakfast was 10 euro a day, but it was worth the price! It's buffet style with croissants, bread, eggs for hard boiling, cereals, yogurt, fruit and cheese. You also can have several different types of coffee and tea. We didn't experience any issues with noise or overheating in the room. The Wifi was great as well!
Review 100:It is close to the station, which is convenient, when you arrive late. The reception is 24 hours. The breakfast is as early as 6:30. It is within walking distance (along the river) to the city center.
Review 101:Broken tiles in bathroom, badly fitting door. No drinking water dispenser or drinks machine available out of cafe hours. Not very clean carpet. No washbasin sink plug Not a good place if arriving by car
Review 102:Not a lot
Review 103:Rien. No problems at all!
Review 104:The receptionists were very helpful, welcoming and charming. The young man on breakfast service was delightful and efficient. 10/10 for the staff!
Review 105:Nothing bad. The hotel is opposite the main station of Bordeaux, so there can be noise, but windows are double-glazed. If you really want to experience Bordeaux centre, you might want to go closer to centre, although tram stop is right in front of hotel and its only a few stops to centre.
Review 106:Price, large room with dramatic view of station square, friendly flexible staff, location close to station where my friend was arriving and close to airport bus by which I arrived, easy tram ride to Bordeaux centre (tram stop right outside), convenient brasseries at ground level, all service elements were perfectly acceptable.
Review 107:The bed was not particularly comfortable and the pillow was hard. The ensuit was tiny and cramped and what passed for a wardrobe looked like a scaffolding pole with shelves attached. To be fair, its a two star hotel and I had to keep reminding myself of that fact.
Review 108:After a long journey it was very welcome to have only to cross the street from the Main Station 'St Jean'. The reception was charming and helpful - full marks. The veiw overlooking the plaza in front of the beautiful station was delightful, and there was easy access to surrounding caffés and bars. The excellent Bordeaux tram can take one to anywhere in the city.
Review 109:Nothing
Review 110:It's 30 seconds from train station. Tram C, to center city is located in front of the hotel. Great staff and very big room. Merci beaucoup!!!
Review 111:The isolation is not good. Around 9-10 in the morning you will wake up anyways. Having gone to parties all the weekend of my stay, it was not really pleasant.
Review 112:I took a promotion therefore it cost me only 75€ for two nights which is an excellent offer. The location is also quite good. A bit far from the center, but the tram and bus stations are in 20 meters from the entrance.
Review 113:The bathroom was a bit too exposed.
Review 114:A very decent and fair hotel. We were group of 4 students having a study trip in Bordeaux so Faisan Hotel had a four-bed suit for us. We couldnt expect having two(!) balconies in our room. Also the stuff was super nice, friendly and helpfull.
Review 115:Noisy sometimes during the night.. Well it was kinda expected since it is just across the train station.
Review 116:Wifi coverage was really good! I still got wifi reception even across the property( at the train station) Very helpful receptionist who told me where to go, places to see. The tram station is also just across the hotel, very accessible to the city centre.
Review 117:the douche was turned to the wall, difficult to take a good shower like that...
Review 118:Very helpful staff; Very well located; Comfortable; Fast wifi connection;
Review 119:BTW, the only problem of this hotel is that it's quite noisy when we lived beside the road, because it hasn't enough soundproofing!
Review 120:we had an excellent service offered by the hotel! People there are very nice and patient! Hotel is very closed to the train station! Just 2 steps in front of the station! If u have many luggages and u don't want to travel long to attend ur hotel, here is the best choice!
Review 121:Large stain of red wine left on carpet.!!!!!!! Shower door would not close, and light would not go off in shower,.
Review 122:The quaintness, the position, the breakfast room. Bed was clean, but see right
Review 123:Had a double room at the front of the building 3rd floor. Had a terrible nights sleep due to street noise (people, trams, drunks) as no double glazed windows. My advice don't get a room at the front of the building.
Review 124:Convenient location near station, tram and bus links.
Review 125:The mattress was a bit too soft, the bathroom is very small (but perfectly clean) and the door to the bathroom is not always easy to operate (they close from side).
Review 126:Very clean hotel with a perfect location opposite to train station; direct tram line directly to city-center, clean rooms and very friendly staff; excellent value for money. To summarize, a very pleasant experience!
Review 127:everytime when you leave the hotel you have to give your keys. there is no phone in the room.
Review 128:st jean train station is located in 100 meters so very easy and there is shuttle navette from the bordeaux airport in walking distance. (30 mints and 14 euros round trip) there is tram for the center (tram c) it takes 7 mints by tram. internet works well. there is restaurants and tabacco shop nearby.
Review 129:The room didn't get warm for hours after leaving the window open for fresh air. The noise didn't bother me, as some people said.
Review 130:Even the location is not at the heart of the city, it is just in front of the train station where there is tram to center, which takes 10-15 mins. I could see the clock of the train station from my window :) The staff was speaking English and friendly.
Review 131:Staff at the hotel ,both at reception and in the breakfast room are always welcoming and more than willing to help make the stay here an enjoyable experience . The hotel itself is very well located opposite the station with good restaurants nearby.
Review 132:Bathroom is small but it was fine for us
Review 133:Very easy to get to the hotel and into town centre, tram and train right outside. Friendly staff, doorman in the evenings for extra security. Comfortable room, quiet. They have the tv volume capped which is a good idea.
Review 134:We had a 'superior' room but the bathroom door was glazed (ie see-through) and did not close. No tea/coffee/kettle etc.(as usual) in the room.
Review 135:Access to transport systems and local amenities - restaurants, cafes etc. Accommodation was adequate.
Review 136:Too noisy, because of these stations. Overall state of the room is badly maintained. Curtains falling, walls need repainting, shower door don't close.
Review 137:Near the train and tram stations.
Review 138:The room was not air conditioned. Overhead fan was a joke. THE NOISE was horrendous and closing the windows wasn't an attractive alternative as it was so oppressively hot. The bathroom was grubby with black mould in the shower recess and gross build-up in the overhead vent. Oh and the door was falling off it's hinges; I literally had to lift it up to close the door and secure the room. I ventured out to get dinner and was unsettled by the rough neighborhood. And the wifi didn't work in my room. I had to sit in reception (lumpy uncomfortable chair) to use it and overhead a poor young couple discussing their wedding planning troubles via Skype! Obviously privacy is not a concern to this Hotel. Horrible stay. My advice: don't stay here. Run!
Review 139:Nothing. Get a room anywhere else in Bordeaux as the trams are brilliant and there's a stop outside Bordeaux train station.
Review 140:Though I don't usually fuss about (or even like) air conditioning, it would have been good to have it if it had been any hotter. Street noise made opening the well sound proofed windows impracticable. Still the ceiling fan helped, and at this price one can't expect everything.
Review 141:Friendly, helpful reception staff, with 24 hr front desk. (I arrived near midnight). Location directly opposite train station. Room well insulated from street noise. Well equipped clean bathroom with good shower.
Review 142:Everything was fine except for the carpet in the room. It was covered in stains and looked really bad. The furnishings were basic and the room had no character.
Review 143:Staff at the reception desk were very helpful. The toilet, washbasin and shower were clean and bright. My bed was comfortable Breakfast was served on the second floor and there is a very pretty terraced garden just outside.
The Fine Print
