Reviews for Vine Hotel by Marston's Inns
Review 1:Small shower in room. Sound quality on tv very poor. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was mediocre. Breakfast was cold. Tea was cold as well as toast. Restaurant staff not very well presented.
Review 2:The location
Review 3:Meals weren't very exciting, but they didn't pretend to be anything but pub grub. Some little peeves, the menu said things were available when they weren't (golden syrup with porridge advertised but not there). Bacon sandwich, which turned out to be slapped between two thin slices of white bread, a roll or thick bread would have been better.
Review 4:Cosy beds, nice bar. Food was OK. Staff were very pleasant.
Review 5:The cooked breakfast was bland and slightly warm rather than hot. The 'toast' was barely toasted and made from white, thinly sliced bread when I'd requested brown.
Review 6:Comfortable and clean room
Review 7:Only thing was the whole hotel was far too hot to the point of being very uncomfortable also not suitable for disabled as all rooms located upstairs accessible by two narrow winding staircases.
Review 8:Had an excellent deal B & B after boxing day for 2 nights centre of town and easy walking distance from railway station
Review 9:Only one small gripe, the shower in our room sounded like a jet taking off.
Review 10:The central location. Ideal for shopping, the theatre and also the railway station is only a short walk away.
Review 11:Reception area could have been more attractive door open behind counter into very untidy scruffy room.
Review 12:Food was surprisingly good considering we chose two for 10pounds menu. Staff helpful and pleasant.
Review 13:We weren't told that breakfast during the week is 7-9 am only, so missed breakfast. We were offered tea and toast which was better than nothing.
Review 14:Location, bed, hotel itself.
Review 15:Late check in cold breakfat everything we stayed here last yeareverything fine now very very very poor want to know more contact me Iwill tell you:!!!!!
Review 16:Nothing check out staff person was not bothered
Review 17:Good central location, with very helpful staff. Totally adequate room, although I found the bed a bit on the soft side for me. Certainly clean - no problems there. Easily accessible, free WiFi and car parking - basically, everything you need for a town centre stopover on a business trip. I'd be happy to use The Vine again. Oh, and a dead easy 7 min walk to/from the train station.
Review 18:No gluten free bread at breakfast having been told it was available, wife had to use her own. Good breakfast choice spoilt by using cheap sliced bread for not very good toast!
Review 19:Central position, comfortable bed, good shower. Liked bottle of water beside bed.
Review 20:The bed wasn't comfortable at all and I am wondering if they were short staffed as we had to wait a while to check in, due to the bar & restaurant being busy. The rooms could do with some TLC.
Review 21:The hotel is in the town centre so ideally placed for everything!
Review 22:Bar shuts at 11pm.
Review 23:Nice clean hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast was good. The food from the hotel bar was excellent and good value for money. I would stay here again.
Review 24:Breakfast was OK, but dried up fried eggs and staff took a long time to replenish what had been emptied by other guests.
Review 25:Room was lovely, fresh, modern and clean. No A:C though, a radiator on the wall that you didn't seem to be able to control. The place itself was quaint, a bit tough if you are disabled because of all the steps (don't believe there was a lift). Location was perfect, right in the centre of town and free parking.
Review 26:Food not great tried a couple of times just to get soft runny eggs but for some unknown reason the chef was unable to do this WHY?.
Review 27:Comfy bed and a good powerful shower.
Review 28:There are too many and very narrow stairs, which doesnt make the carrying of baggage easy. The room an the bathroom were comfortable but a bit small overall. No great choice for continental breakfast. The english breakfast is good though!
Review 29:The staff was nice. The hotel is located at the center of Stafford. Nice pub inside the hotel. Free parking area for customers.
Review 30:Cockroaches in bathroom and kitchen View of very scruffy surrounding terraces/balconies Lack of natural light Company not responding to emails Telephone numbers not working TV not working Light bulbs not working Poor general condition Cheap and uncomfortable furniture Misleading website Price!
Review 31:Proximity to Las Ramblas and market
Review 32:As usual, another fantastic stay at The Vine with wonderful staff and facilities. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the food was excellent, with large plates of good, wholesome 'pub grub'. All round great experience!
Review 33:We were not impressed by the evening meals on offer. There weren't enough yoghurts two days at breakfast. Bread was terrible. Little interest shown in us as visitors to Stafford and potentially return visitors
Review 34:It was very convenient for visiting Stafford itself and as a tourist centre for Cannock Chase, Shugborough, etc. Our room was quiet and well serviced
Review 35:Bathroom rather small .Bedroom quite cold, but used their fan-heater.
Review 36:Parking ; staff; very convenient location.Breakfast excellent . Room good with mineral-water supplied .
Review 37:Corridors are a bit narrow and fire doors a bit fierce when you've got a heavy bag to haul around, but that's not really the hotels' fault.
Review 38:Comfortable bed - didn't get a back ache! Nice clean room. Good value evening meal.
Review 39:The room in the "Annexe" building was a dreary setup of 70's design and decor.
Review 40:The best feature of the Vine is its convenient location in the centre of town.
Review 41:The noise in the room; also, as we raised in very early they supose to left some yogurts, juices, etc in order to eat something, but there was not even glasses to drink.
Review 42:Dinner was good with a very nice price;
Review 43:old bedding with rips in it, no mattress cover which then made me look at the pillows yuch! yellow stains!!! the staff tried to make right these mistakes but i feel they do not have the support of the management. Would i work for marstons NO!
Review 44:location
Review 45:small room on back very noise room2 asked for early check in ,told 14.00 it would be ready did not get in till 14.35
Review 46:the shows at the gatehouse , hotel clean but some meals pricey.near to gatehouse
Review 47:Dusty room, room was very warm and stuffy, uneven creaky floors, awful shower cubicle, loose toilet seat,no shelf for toiletries in bathroom.
Review 48:Checking out
Review 49:Alarm went off four times between 11 and midnight and it wasn't acknowledged in the morning with an apology. Bed was too small and space in the room was not used well. Bathroom was quite cramped.
Review 50:The tea and coffee making facilities were good and the location was spot on. Breakfast was also very nice.
Review 51:None
Review 52:Quiet and convenient location to the town area. Breakfast food was good, and bar area an asset for a nightcap. The staff was helpful and polite.
Review 53:The teaspoons in my room were stick and unwashed - when I went to reception they apologised, but they didn't sound anywhere near as digested as I felt. Some of the crockery at breakfast was also slightly sticky - not very comforting.
Review 54:The rooms have been refurbished since I first stayed here last year and they are much better - clean, tidy and comfortable
Review 55:Lots of narrow winding stairs with no one to help with our luggage, noise on street with drunken sounds of people, poor shower and had to ask for pillow covers, this hotel was as expensive as an amazing one in Liverpool, they had a major shortage of staff and the receptionist seemed put off by our arrival.
Review 56:The historic area of Stafford
Review 57:Bathroom wasn't cleaned properly, hairs left on side of bath andshower screen filthy. Rooms are small. We were given room 2 which backsonto car park and back of pub so was noisy
Review 58:Great location only a short walk from train station
Review 59:Didn't realise there would be so many stairs to climb or would have requested a ground or lower floor room, otherwise fine.
Review 60:Very central for town centre, not too easy to find without sat nav! Welcoming staff and parking appreciated. Very nice and quiet.
Review 61:Staff could of been happier, portion sizes could of been better. Breakfast sausages tasted foul, as if they had been defrosted a couple of days ago
Review 62:Secure car park
Review 63:I was put on the ground floor and the bathroom window was insecure. I had to work at it to make it stay in position. This made me feel anxious as someone could easily have broken in to the room at any time. The breakfast was average or less.
Review 64:Room was nicely fitted out
Review 65:The hotel standards are overall very good, but I did notice they put all the clean linen and towels on the floor of that hall to prepare the rooms for new guests - not very hygienic!
Review 66:The staff were very approachable and friendly. Took a while to find the receptionist on arrival however.
Review 67:The bar was a bit strange... Or maybe it just didn't have that cozy bar atmosphere. I can't say we didn't like it but just as a possible idea, the bar could have a less empty feel and perhaps some background music in the breakfast/dinner room would make it more relaxed.
Review 68:The staff tried really hard to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They were professional and friendly. The old building and grounds were beautifully maintained, and our view from the window was out of a classic british novel. I liked the breakfast, and the cafe bar on the first floor together with free wlan were a very nice addition for us.
Review 69:Reception staff weren't very attentive whilst checking in or out. Had to wait around for them for a while. Bed was a bit lumpy.
Review 70:Reception staff were very nice when they finally got around to seeing me. Short walk from the train station. Room had everything I needed and more. Excellent idea to provide us with a bottle of water and biscuits!
Review 71:Staff at reception very welcoming and helpful. Good sized room and bathroom. Great full English breakfast. Besides tea/coffee etc it was a pleasant surprise to find a bottle of mineral water in the room.
Review 72:had written on special request that I was on crutches yet was placed in a room up 2 flights of narrow twisting stairs, no offer to change rooms & no lift, also requested parking but they could not guarantee (first come first served basis), room was dusty(lamps, pictures, skirting, radiator, litter behind locker, entrance light not working) second breakfast had to ask to be served after 10 minutes by same girl previous day who was excellent otherwise, no toilet brush should we have had need to use it, not enough milk for drinks, was given as best deal on booking.com but was the same price you would pay booking direct
Review 73:location was great for walking into Stafford, good blackout curtains, staff very friendly, good choice of menu
Review 74:Very hot in room - difficult to open windows - no aircon and bathroom window painted shut so unable to open at all. Creaking floor boards (expected in old building) but noisy. Also double bed was most uncomfortable and seemed quite old.
Review 75:Location was excellent in the town centre.
Review 76:Reception wasn't 24 hours and we only had 1 key so getting in at separate times provided some difficulties. Did offer an emergency number however.
Review 77:The hotel was right in the center of town which was ideal as we were on a works night out in Stafford.
Review 78:Really rude staff. Was very tempted to turn heel and go elsewhere.Surly when checking in, arrogant and rude. Initially refused usbreakfast next morn although they advised the time the night before. Also parking not guaranteed - had to park kms away for the 2 nights wewere there. No wifi.
Review 79:Bed was comfy
Review 80:Breakfast was ok, would have been nice to have hot tea as it was left out and serve yourself so was cold.
Review 81:Good location, car parking, friendliness of staff
Review 82:A group of people collected outside our room(which was at the rear) at 4.00am it was VERY noisey.
Review 83:Town Centre location, free car parking, very helpful staff.
Review 84:staff picking teeth behind bar looking dis interested. At 3 oclock in the morning water tanks start filling up till 3.45 horrendous then at 5 oclock people walking about on creeky floorboards above, no sleep what so ever.. good preparation for a 4 hour drive.
Review 85:Location.
Review 86:The room was tiny no air con which was unbearable cos the weather was very hot when we stayed. Staff were a bit miserable but the breakfasts were nice
Review 87:Good area lots if shops and nice places to eat
Review 88:But the staff help me book a taxi for an important meeting.I try to let the staff to book it early but she said that you don't need so early,it's very near here! BUTTTTT,the taxi is late and I am late for my important meeting!!!! although it's just a few minutes late but it makes me nervous!!!
Review 89:I like the location and the staff is willing to help. The price is good
Review 90:The restaurant is 'tired looking'. Can something be done with lighting? The menus are old and well thumbed - small changes would make a big difference - I hope to see improvement on my next visit.
Review 91:Fantastic value in centre of lovely town. You have to accept that it is an old building so that carrying luggage up stairs is awkward - so help offered please!
Review 92:When I went to check in the staff were undecided who should check me in and were BOTH more concerned about eating their meals than serving customers.
Review 93:Not much really!
Review 94:Staff were a little abrupt. Breakfast was a bit tasteless.
Review 95:The location was brilliant as it was close to everything. Great free parking on site. Room was clean and comfortable. Bar downstairs was nice and cosy.
Review 96:Check in, although early (45mins) was begrudgingly done. When impression was that they weren't busy, no other customers there! Room needs major overhaul, ground floor room overlooking a secluded car park and a window with broken lock is not comforting for single female traveller. Due to brusqueness of employee at check-in, did not feel comfortable in raising issue to move! Food was bad quality for evening meal, although included in rate, I ate breakfast elsewhere.
Review 97:Able to check in early as room available. Bar staff in the evening and check out were friendly and helpful.
Review 98:Breakfast a little disappointing but as soon as I mentioned it at reception i was not charged for breakfast.
Review 99:Location very central, all staff very helpful. Nice sized single room with a desk and free wifi. clean & comfortable.
Review 100:The signage at the rear could be better placed so as drivers can identify the hotels rear car park .
Review 101:A fabulous reception and warm welcome from all the team . The food was good as were the facilities . Would recommend the vine to all travellers to the area .
Review 102:Steep stairway and a number of fire dorrs to go through. Very limited WiFi and couldn't connect in the bar downstairs and no chance in my room.
Review 103:Well situated for stopping over when travelling by bus or train. Easy access to shops.
Review 104:My room directly outside a fire door whose self closing mechanism was broken. The time taken to type the poster uses to advocate closing the door quietly would have been better spent replacing the door mechanism....
Review 105:Excellent shower
Review 106:Room N°6 : very , very little bathroom , doors cut fire who click at night , bad sound damping , staff who bangs trash cans at night .
Review 107:City center location , free car park , correct breakfast , good atmosphere , staff very friendly , intimates corner near the bar for have a chat with friends , the very low ceiling in the pub part ( not in the bedrooms )
Review 108:We had evening meal at the hotel but thought the standard and range of choice was poor. Would have been prepared to have paid a little extra for something home cooked rather than the fare which was offered.
Review 109:Good friendly atmosphere, polite staff with excellent parking facilities.
Review 110:Not really a bad experience, but did have to go up stairs a lot but with old building you accept that.
Review 111:Breakfast was lovely although the young lady did keep setting the fire alarms off because she burnt the toast. Nice comfy rooms, clean and good size.
Review 112:Room items should be replaced more often. Such as hand & shower soap.large Tea & coffee items.
Review 113:Informal Lively Pub atmosphere. Room key opens hotel rear door after midnight when front door is locked. Car park with pin code barrier .
Review 114:Right in town centre. Good size room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice. Car parking available adjacent to hotel.
Review 115:Location was great and very quiet for a town centre
Review 116:Hotel was in a superb location and everything was good but the room was cold asked for the heating to b put on and was told it didn't come on till 6pm. When we got back to the room at 11pm the room was still very cold went to reception and was sorted. Been offered 50% of our next stay
Review 117:shower cold at 10am bit poor - toilet cistern not attached to wall properly, sink plug didnt work. tv didnt tune in!
Review 118:price! clean, food 2 for a tenner was superb!
Review 119:Will not rebook, room very small, cold shower and long wait for poor breakfast served by a very rude young lady who threw butter pats at us when asked for them. To add insult to injury no apology offered by the manager when I complained.
Review 120:Poor value for money for what was a small room and very basic, dated bathroom
Review 121:An excellent quiet and historic location; good breakfast and friendly pub atmosphere in the evening
Review 122:Had a meal before theatre. Burger was so over - cooked that it was hard. Staff not very organised at breakfast.
Review 123:Ideal location for Gatehouse Theatre. Friendly staff.
Review 124:Mattress too big for bed. Radiators off yet still very hot. Therefore both of us did not sleep well . Shame, as we would have had a top stay otherwise
Review 125:Friendly staff , good food, good location for bars etc and glean rooms
Review 126:The car parking spaces are limited and the alternative is public parking.
Review 127:The location is excellent in the town centre but not noisy. No hard sell to use the restaurant.
Review 128:Two of the couples rooms were a little cool and one couple asked to be moved to another room which the hotel staff complied with.
Review 129:Friendly environment, very near to town centre 5 mins walk. Good selection of restraunts available. Good breakfast on both days we stayed and good value evening meals available at the Vine.
Review 130:Found staff nonchalant and content to leave you waiting whilst they continued chatting. Didn't feel any of them cared very much
Review 131:Nice position, nice old building food nice
Review 132:We arrived in the afternoon to a nice clean room. There were 2 largeradiators but after turning them to the fullest setting it soon becameapparent that they weren't working. I went and found the manager andshe said the boiler took a bit of time to kick in. So we went out forsomething to eat. When we returned a few hours later the room was stillcold. I went to find the manager again and she said she was on to herboss and the problem was being dealt with.In the meantime she gave us afan heater. I took it to the room and it didn't work. I returned thefan heater and she found another one. This worked ok. I then went intothe bathroom to have a shave to find that there was no hot water! Itried the shower. None here too! Once again I had to go and find themanager. She said there was a problem with the boiler and to give it anhour. We decided to get ready and go out but my partner wasn't happywith staying at the hotel so I suggested we go back and find out whatwas happening. This was around 10pm. Luckily I hadn't been drinkingmuch up until this point. We arrived to confront the manager yet againto be told the problem was being dealt with and should be sorted soon.We said this was unacceptable! She contacted her manager again and aftera lot of waiting around she came back saying that this wouldn't befixed until the morning. My partner drew her attention about theproblems of personal hygiene and the fact it was Valentines night andneither of us would be able to have a shower! Also they shouldn't beserving food if there was no hot water. We decided to cancel the bookingand we collected our stuff and left the hotel to return home! Luckily Ihad not pre-paid for the room. It was the fact that we were constantlyfobbed off that wound me and my partner up. The customer service wasappalling. Needless to day we won't be staying at this hotel again.
Review 133:Nice old pub. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Good location to thetown centre.
Review 134:excellent location, good room - comfy and clean, staff were extremely helpful, had good knowledge and a great sense of humour. breakfast was generous and tasty, with later, more leisurely breakfast sittings. good value for money!
Review 135:I like where possible to be located in a town. the service here was very friendly, the young staff on duty were all helpful, polite and aware of their customers
Review 136:the vine was a delight for the price.the bed was very comfortable room clean and tidy we only had the breakfast but it was a normal english breakfast.compare to some of the big chains hotels that dont offer breakfast.will go back again.
Review 137:The place is grubby, ill-maintained, and down-at-heel. Clearly no one cares enough to do even simple maintenance or cleaning.
Review 138:Staff were cheerful and helpful. The location is good for Stafford.
Review 139:bed was on a sideway slope so felt odd.bedhead very dusty and when we looked behind the net curtain the window was black with mould.Shame as it was a pleasent room.stairs very steep and we were on second floor so not so good for us oldies.
Review 140:Staff very helpfull and we had a lovely breakfast.
Review 141:Bathroom sink- water took ages to drain away; also the "hot" water never really got close to that description(both gripes were pointed out to staff on departure so hopefully will be attended to soon) Neither would stop me returning
Review 142:Location- from street plan hotel looks a good bit away from station but can be easily walked within 10 minutes Character- obviously an old building so lots of quirks about the place Breakfast- good start to the day
