Reviews for The Kenilworth
Review 1:The rooms are modern, perhaps a tad too much. The room was lacking drawer space to put clothes away although the wardrobe was a good size. It would be good to have a welcome tray in the room instead of the trendy coffee maker.
Review 2:All of the staff were very friendly, helpful and went that extra mile to help us. We stayed in room 10 which was at the rear of the property and as promised it was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was a very good cold buffet including fresh breads, croissant, cheeses and meats. Who needs an unhealthy fry-up! This is a boutique hotel in the heart of Kenilworth specialising in comfort and cocktails!
Review 3:Room no 8 Needs a coat of paint,on the radiator the paint was all flaking off and making it look unsightly, two minute fix and the room would be perfect.
Review 4:I liked the location, and the cocktail bar.
Review 5:The shower in room 6 was not hot enough it was luke warm and the lack of cooked breakfast is understandable but a shame
Review 6:Cocktail lounge and rooms were lovely
Review 7:Fantastic decor, friendly staff and everything seemed to be really well thought out. Thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay. Cocktail bar was a great on-site addition!
Review 8:Seemed slightly overpriced for what you got, basic continental breakfast included. Noisy as room above bar area. Sky TV wasn't great and didn't work efficiently.
Review 9:Cosy little boutique style hotel with individual rooms. Quirky with a nice cocktail lounge downstairs.
Review 10:Breakfast was unmanned and not very inviting. When we went down, there was hardly anything left, and no staff around.
Review 11:The cocktails and each room being individual
Review 12:nothing all we above what you expect
Review 13:incredibly friendly and try to cater for all your requests fantastic , well done to June and her husband and band of Staff for making it so welcoming been 3 times and will keep using
Review 14:The breakfast was awful (dreadful selection for a continental, stale croissants) and when we mentioned it at checkout we were told that it was free so we should be happy with it. The other staff had been really nice but when we mentioned this feedback the manager was really rude and a bit confrontational. Also for someone to say that the the cost of the food isn't factored in to their room prices is insulting - of course your operating cost are - it's how you run a business but you could spend a little bit more, serve it properly and have a brilliant experience.
Review 15:Room was lovely
Review 16:Room was a bit on the small side and the wall to the adjoining room was so thin one could here every word of any conversation.
Review 17:Location. Quality of fixtures and fittings. Friendly staff.
Review 18:All good .
Review 19:The rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable with excellent facilities . The staff were really helpful and friendly and the cocktails were amazing . A great place to stay with a group of friends !
Review 20:Room did not feel private as noise travelled from other rooms and made it difficult to sleep
Review 21:Close to good restaurants good breakfast although only continental
Review 22:Lovely character Listed building & stunningly decorated. Rooms are quirky and The Kenilworth in a great location for transport, shops and restaurants. Don't expect a cooked breakfast as they don't have the facilities due to the buildings limitations. This is made clear on the description of the hotel anyway!
Review 23:The room wasn't cleaned nor bed made between nights. The continental breakfast was poor. The room was the lounge of a house and we could hear every footstep from the guests upstairs. We expected a hotel but really it was a b&b and overpriced.
Review 24:Comfortable bed
Review 25:Lack of atmosphere in the new build annexe.A kettle for tea/coffee would have sufficed ....tasimo machine not required...biscuits were. Lastly very poor breakfast,no hot food available, staff contact minimal. Overpriced stay.
Review 26:Bathroom,duvet & room size. Sky TV appreciated.
Review 27:Noisy after 11pm, poor breakfast given the price - I'd expect to get better in London for that money, much better out of London.
Review 28:Clean, polite, orderly
Review 29:As you are right above a busy restaurant and bar could be a bit noisy if unaware.
Review 30:Beautiful room, lovely comfy bed. Large shower and washroom. Excellent staff
Review 31:Room very small, bed un comfortable, noisy location of room, when arrived parking was poor, the staff did not show us where things were, I have stayed in many hotels around the world and felt this was not valve for money very poor.
Review 32:After complaining about the poor nights sleep and the less value for money room I had some taken off my bill
Review 33:The noise was the worst I have ever experienced. It was unexplainable how bad. I could even hear the cocktails being made !!!! Can't explain how bad it was. And I never complain.
Review 34:Cocktail menu
Review 35:That the bar closed to residents at 11 so couldnt have a drink when we returned back to the hotel after eating out
Review 36:The situation in the centre of Kenilworth close to lots of restaurants. Loved the cocktail bar
Review 37:Not being greeted with a good morning each morning even though owners were on the premises but stayed in the office instead of greeting the guests and checking if guests had everything they needed.
Review 38:Central location for Warwick, Leamington Spa and Stratford upon Avon.
Review 39:Nothing I didn't like, only improvement I would make is the breakfast could have some cold meets or the like. That said the meal was adequate for our needs.
Review 40:Just a very good place to be. Not really drinkers but we enjoyed the cocktail bar which was very good
Review 41:Like any other small hotels, noise is a problem. People returning to their rooms after hours tend to forget this.
Review 42:Overall we found the Kenilworth has very high standards. We particularly love the shower and the Elemis products.
Review 43:Room 4 is cramped. Wet room as bathroom is poorly ventilated. Inadequate sound proofing to next room.
Review 44:Stylish common rooms Excellent cocktail choice Friendly staff Quaint outdoor Courtyard
Review 45:Poor check out experience - waiting until conversation with other guest had finished window straight onto busy road and a hot night meant disturbed sleep
Review 46:charming, would come for a leisure rather than business stay
Review 47:The walls were 'paper thin' I could hear the person ordering 'Room Service' on the phone.. I complained and was given a small discount. No kettle in room just a pod type machine. Breakfast was poor - coffee only and no one around to ask.
Review 48:The Location The room was clean and tidy Generally comfortable
Review 49:Having to leave...
Review 50:Fantastic cocktail bar with expert bar staff, wonderful service and very comfortable surroundings and ambiance. The music was perfect as well. Rye drinker's must try the Tombstone, in my opinion it's a perfect drink.
Review 51:No bad experience and no problems or issues, although difficult to find the car parking at the rear.
Review 52:Room was good and quiet. Staff very helpful. A different place to stay from normal hotels and enjoyed the cocktails.
Review 53:The room was as lovely as the photos suggested. The staff were very friendly and helpful and well-informed about local restaurants catering for a gluten-free diet.
Review 54:Didn't know how to use the coffee machine, would have preferred an old fashioned kettle, ha ha We were right above the cocktail lounge, which was obviously pretty noisy until very late. I'm quite sure if we were in the area again, we would stay there, but possibly pick a quieter room. Very nice though
Review 55:Comfortable bed.
Review 56:very very noisy whist we know there would be a cocktail bar we didn't expect to be 10 steps away from it with nothing to block the noise. That and the banging of the doors led to a very disturbed night. Thank heavens for coffee at breakfast.
Review 57:Good location, bathroom very nice. Breakfast good for continental
Review 58:I've been going to the kenilworth for the cocktails for a few years now and decided to treat my partner for his birthday and stay the night. Fantastic. Staff are lovely. Room and bathroom were perfect and Furniture was comfortable. Very happy. Can't wait to come back. Breakfast was also very nice!!
Review 59:Didn't bother us as we go to bed quite late but you can hear noise from the cocktail bar while it's open.
Review 60:Amazing shower, nice beds, great location.
Review 61:Bed was very soft, room was musty/dusty - I could not stop coughing because I am allergic to dust, the bathroom light and fan stayed in automatically and were very loud, the bathroom was absolutely freezing, the water splashes out of the sink, even though the shower is large, the shower head is awkwardly placed so you have to stand up against a wall and the water was not hot. The room seemed rundown. It was very disappointing and the price point was way too high for what you got. Front desk gave bad directions and did not know when Kenilworth Castle was open. Breakfast was truly pathetic.
Review 62:There was parking at the back and room was private,
Review 63:Everything, A detached house, separate to the pub on a housing estate, not adequately sound proofed, we have stayed many hotels in the world, but this was the worst.
Review 64:I saw Balvenie Port Wood edition on the menu that I have been wanting to try for ages and they'd run out. Gutted! I can forgive due to the awesomeness of the Smoky Old B*stard cocktails though...
Review 65:Tastefully themed room with really nice bathroom. Staff really well turned out and very helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed a few of the cocktails before going to the Cross for dinner.
Review 66:The bed was slightly too soft but that's just personal preference
Review 67:The hotel is lovely, the staff really look after you and can't do enough to make your stay the best. The cocktails are amazing!
Review 68:The only thing I would say is the parking isn't great, although there are enough spaces we did get blocked in.
Review 69:Hotel was beautiful, really clean and beautiful decor throughout. The bathroom was amazing, spent most of our time in there! The staff were so helpful, very attentive. The cocktail bar was beautiful, pages and pages of different drinks to try, quite expensive but that's to be expected. Management were also really nice, they had a beautiful staffy that I had a cuddle from at breakfast. Would definitely stay here again but in a different room as they are all different.
Review 70:The rooms 1, 2 & 3 are located above the bar. Only quiet after midnight... Ask for a room in the back for a quiet room. Breakfast is only continental, no hot items.
Review 71:Very nicely designed and decorated rooms. Super friendly staff. The wine list and cocktail menu are awesome. Try their boards along and you won't miss supper
Review 72:Getting into the parking and then finding reception was a feat in itself. Check-in was in the middle of a busy cocktail bar with staff who weren't particularly aware of what to do with us - we felt rather awkward dragging suitcases through drunk party-goers! Shower was gorgeous BUT only overhead and no bath so I wasn't able to get a shower as I didn't want to wash my long hair. I don't think this is really acceptable.
Review 73:Room very contemporary, breakfast much better than expected for a continental served in a (closed) cocktail bar! Location good for going out and the bar was great on Friday night.
Review 74:Room was noisy while cocktail bar was still open, and rooms in web look much nicer than room actually was, I wasn't given a choice of different rooms when booking.
Review 75:Location was brilliant, cocktails lovly and friendly staff.
Review 76:basic stuff; the room had no kettle for simply boiling water ??. The constant questioning of staff of "have you booked a table " to have a beer in the bar ?? we were paying guests !!!!! no "was everything ok ?" after handing £300 over for two night stay??
Review 77:TV not working and sunken bath, no space for a free-standing shower, attic bathroom meant headroom pinched on both sides
Review 78:Very boutique environment, handy location, cleanliness of room and comfort first rate, wifi good, staff ultra-helpful and polite
Review 79:As the Kennilworth is a cocktail bar the drinks are great but the noise from launching bottles into the bottle bank until 2am meant a poor nights sleep. Also the staff didn't keep their voices down and were shouting out to each other just outside our bedroom door.
Review 80:Could hear people in other rooms luckily they weren't too noisy, shower was only luke warm in the morning and bed was squeaky
Review 81:Loved the look of the room and bathroom, great that there was an iron & ironing board, information about the hotel was nice too, great staff and relaxed atmosphere. Decor around all areas was excellent.
Review 82:I feel the room may be too hot in summer. It was below freezing outside, but we had to turn the radiator right off, and the duvet was very warm!Better than being cold, but, as I say, in summer it may beuncomfortable. I couldn't adjust the shower temperature, despitetwiddling both knobs assiduously. Why do hotels never put the socket forthe hairdyer anywhere near the mirror? The coffee maker was verycomplicated - I only wanted some hot water to make a Lemsip - but thisdid not seem to be an option! My husband didn't like the breakfast.I only ever have coffee, toast, and fruit for breakfast, so it was finefor me, although there were no fruit knives for the kiwi fruits. Myhusband chose some smoked cheese, but really couldn't open thepacket - he tried for 5 minutes but there were no sharp knives! ( Thereis cereal too, if you like. )
Review 83:The hotel was in a good location ( once we had found the parking!). Thestaff were very good. I'm sure the cocktail bar is fun in summerwhen one could sit in the garden, but for us it was too noisy and busyon a Saturday night. ( We'd been to a wedding) The room wascomfortable and the toiletries were nice. I especially liked the fluffytowels. I was surprised that the room was so modern, given the oldexterior of the hotel. If I had really wanted to stay in an old hotelroom, (if I were an American perhaps) I may have been disappointed, butI have to say that the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom waslovely( except the shower temperature issue)
Review 84:Ridiculous coffee machine -a kettle would be so much quicker, massive TV but tiny wardrobe space,no fridge or water in the room
Review 85:Good location, free parking, friendly staff, large room (11),super bathroom with great shower, comfy bed and pillows, leisurely breakfast
Review 86:Hairdryer wasn't very powercul although mentioned it to receptionist who said straightaway they'd change it.
Review 87:Great rooms and bathrooms. Excellent cocktails with friendly staff
Review 88:Wifi connection wasn't that great Service in the cocktail bar at night could have been better...
Review 89:Loved the service The breakfast was great My room was fantastic It was so easy to turn the heating on which is rare in hotels! comfy pillows
Review 90:We stayed in the superior double so I suppose I expected it to be a bit bigger than in actually was all the same it was still a stunning room! The noise from downstairs is quite loud until around 12.30-1am that was on a Thursday (it did state to expect slight noise on a weekend) I was very dissapointed in the breakfast no hot food awful coffee and warm orange juice. I wouldn't stay there again purely because I didn't think it was worth £125 for the night but it was a nice treat!
Review 91:The decor of the room and hotel & bar throughout was gorgeous! Massive tv with all sky channels & tassimo coffee machine, nice fluffy towels and luxery toiletries. Excellent location with plenty of restaurants and bars around.
Review 92:Very small room, a few meters away from very noisy cocktail bar unfortunately. Im sure not all the rooms were so close but this wasn't mentioned to us.
Review 93:It was noisy and it was difficult to park. No food served in the evening.
Review 94:The room had character and was decorated well. The venue had character and the gardens was cool. Staff were friendly.
Review 95:Breakfast was very limited although what was there was good. WiFi wasn't really serviceable for me. Room was over the bar and window is on the front straight on to the road, so may be noisy at the weekend, but was fine when I was there (mid week). No net curtains, so you are either in the dark with the curtains shut or feel like you are a bit on show as it is straight onto the road and not very high. The bathroom has a great bath but only a hand held shower which wouldn't be my preference.
Review 96:First impressions were good, this is a quirky, but extremely well appointed place and the reception was very friendly. My room (3) was amazing - High beamed ceilings, steps up to a funky bathroom, massive TV, very cool decor, good coffee machine and comfy bed. The bar is great, particularly if you like Jazz, swing and cocktails - I wouldn't usually head straight for the nearest cocktail bar, but this really is a bit special, Great staff, great atmosphere, great decor and the largest / best selection of drinks you are ever likely to see. It made for a really good evening. I have stayed in the Holiday inn in Kenilworth a few times and although it is a completely different experience and The Kenilworth wouldn't be for everyone, I will definitely not be going back to the Holiday Inn which is fine but sterile in comparison.
Review 97:The friendly staff and observing the cocktails been prepared adds to the experience. This is a firm favourite of mine and would recommend an evening, at this stylish and friendly cocktail bar/hotel
Review 98:The cocktail bar although being a Novel ideaI I think I would of preferred a more up market regular country style bar. May have been more relaxing. Great job done by owners to present such a welcoming stop.
Review 99:Location & general standard of accomodation was excellent. Indeed probable the best value we have experienced on this trip & we have stayed in many many hotels on this 3month trip.
Review 100:The breakfast was fine but would have preferred slightly healthier options
Review 101:The staff were so helpful and nice The room was out the back and quiet nice cocktail lounge
Review 102:The breakfast was a poor lazy effort, on a small table in a dark corner, just an unhealthy sugar laiden display and no staff around. So breakfast for us was a banana and a cup of tea. Room overlooked by a 24 hour office opposite, privacy blinds needed for this and all rooms, as could see in when walking to car park. Traffic noise terrible. Nothing to attach shower hose to, had to hose down in bath instead of a decent shower( was told there was a shower over the bath). Stairs to/from bathroom felt unsafe,my husband was surprised they passed building regs.High ceiling but limited floor space around bed, coffee machine under stairs which was awkward to get to. I think this room was over priced taking into account all of the above.
Review 103:Comfortable bed, pleasant and helpful barman, well presented bathroom/room. Small and quaint , if you don't want a large chain type hotel.
Review 104:Just note that it is a working bar (which was excellent by the way) but it's not quiet on the weekend until they closed at midnight. So be prepared to join in on the fun and have a cocktail rather than a sleep!
Review 105:Boutique and very well done renovations. Rooms had all modern conveniences and were spotless. Great facilities.
Review 106:This is a great coctail bar and hotel in one It is a very unusual comination but it works perfectly The choice and quality of the coctails is incredible and the staff are extreemly knowledgeable If you want somewhere with a difference then this is it
Review 107:Cocktail bar very nice and rooms very nice and clean
Review 108:Bathroom!
Review 109:No tea available at breakfast, and it would be good if the pastries could be warm.
Review 110:Everything
Review 111:nothing
Review 112:lovely place, and very friendly staff
Review 113:They don´t sell anything to eat, not even crisps.
Review 114:Good location. Clean and very friendly staff.
Review 115:Breakfast poor
Review 116:Rooms very nice. Staff excellent
Review 117:Staff all brilliant and helpful.
Review 118:Pillows
Review 119:Rooms warm plenty hot water, Comfy bed, Lovely staff, Good breakfast
Review 120:The room was located above the bar anda bit noisy on the evening.
Review 121:Terrible noise until the early hours. Very uncomfortable nights sleep.
Review 122:Fabulous room with amazing bathroom & very comfy bed. Cocktails were phenomenal
Review 123:Cocktail Bar music to 12.30pm
Review 124:Cocktail Bar
Review 125:The friendliness and welcoming from the staff
Review 126:Slightly disappointed there was no stand in shower.
Review 127:Hotel room was gorgeous, very comfortable and luxurious. Bathroom had a deep bath very relaxing.
Review 128:Very friendly, definitely will be back
Review 129:Poor acoustic quality of secondary glazing.
Review 130:Luxury style, cool ambiance, interesting architecture, very friendly and professional staff.
Review 131:Nothing
Review 132:Large spacious room and bathroom with super comfy bed
