Reviews for Highside Farm B&B

Review 1:Wonderfully kind and attentive proprietors, great full English breakfast, very comfortable room with fantastic views, great location very convenient for walking up Skiddaw.

Review 2:Breakfast was a little early for us and no beans with the fry up

Review 3:Excellent Location for Walking up Skiddaw, Friendly Staff, Clean and tidy, good view of lake

Review 4:Family room Totally inadequate for four adults withlots of luggage. Needed to drive everywhere when advertising said you could walk to pub etc.

Review 5:Christine very helpful and cooked a great brekky. Great view.

Review 6:They do like you out of there in a morning... which may not be fine for everyone. Tight check-in times please check that they suit you. WiFi is hopeless in the rooms

Review 7:Easy to find and rooms are well kitted out

Review 8:The double bed in the triple room was quite uncomfortable. It creaked every time we turned over such that we both woke up many times through the night. We were not very well rested after 2 nights stay.

Review 9:Overall this B&B is of a high standard. The location suited us well. as a base for hillwalking. Our triple room had a fantastic view over Bassenthwaite Lake. The breakfast was very good too.

Review 10:The female B&B owner was a bit abrupt and told us at 9:45am that check-out was 10am despite the fact that it is advertised as between 10am - 11am - this was even confirmed by the male B&B owner the evening before.

Review 11:The location The room The views

Review 12:WiFi wouldn't connect anywhere in B&B.

Review 13:Excellent breakfasts, good location with great views and parking. Accommodating staff. Excellent shower!

Review 14:Whilst the room we stayed in was utterly gorgeous, unfortunately we had no access to wifi. There is wifi inside of the house however.

Review 15:The highlight of our stay was definitely the views of Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite Lake from the window of our room. The cooked full English breakfast was also superb.

Review 16:The key was a poorly cut key taken from the original. It didnt work properly and was very frustrating. I will add though that it was a result of the previous occupants of the room going home with the original and so not entirely the B n B's fault. I only made this comment in the hope they get themselves a better spare cut for future emergencies.

Review 17:Lovely setting, lots of character and good facilities.

Review 18:Couldn't really walk anywhere- you had to get back in the car to even go down to the village. Just a feature of the area I suppose

Review 19:Wifi didn't work

Review 20:Lovely B&B in beautiful area of the country. Delicious breakfast and warm welcome from our hosts. The room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed, with lovely lineN. The bed was very comfy (albeit I am used to a slightly firmer mattress). Would definitely return.

Review 21:The hospitality of the owners was very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The place was quite and private. Would definetly stay there again and would highly recommend it

Review 22:Not a bad experience as such but WiFi was almost non existent. This was not a major problem on this visit but had our stay been longer then it could have been problematic.

Review 23:Everything was perfect. Best b& b we have ever stayed in!!!

Review 24:The owners very friendly and welcoming I highly recommend a stay in the superior suite in the barn outside , quiet location excellent views not far from Keswick town centre.

Review 25:The room was too small for a family. The only light was from the door window. The extractor fan in bathroom was on all night long. You could hear every little sound from the rooms upstairs.

Review 26:Friendly staff

Review 27:Leaving in the morning, I wanted to stay, lol.

Review 28:Breakfast was amazing. The room was super comfortable, crisp white sheets and everything you would need for a good nights sleep.

Review 29:It was a little warm in the room, so providing a top sheet would solve the problem of roasting under a duvet or sleeping uncovered.

Review 30:Loved the pastoral location, and listening to the sheep at night. The lounge was a nice place to sit and the rooms were comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 31:I was very very disappointed as no wifi as had work wanted to complete in the quiet and peace!! Also bathroom fab yet shower freezing or red hot ...don't wash your hair!!!arghhh!! Not cater for veggies as stated

Review 32:Lovely bed the place was very private very clean and spacious

Review 33:A characterful home from home B&B. Clean, spacious room with a very comfortable bed. Then the breakfast was gorgeous. All with the most hospitable helpful owner.

Review 34:The property was advertised with wi fi, which is quite essential to me..it was so slow as to be hardly useable. It should not be advertised as 'wi fi provided when it is so slow.

Review 35:Location

Review 36:The pillows, they were a bit lumpy.

Review 37:Hosts we great & let us change in our room before our friends wedding, great decor, lovely bathroom and toiletries, EXCELLENT choice of drinks from the tea & coffee tray (best I've ever seen at a B&B), hearty breakfast & friendly hosts.

Review 38:A wonderful 17th century farmhouse B&B. We were greeted by Martin bringing his sheep and lambs across the road into the farm. A very attentive owner showed us to our wonderful en-suite room with lake field and mountain views. Had a great Cumbrian breakfast served each morning by staff who would do anything to help when needed. Will definitely be viviting again. Highly recommended..

Review 39:The mobile signal in the lakes is terrible and not the fault of highside B&B so therefore I can't fault them at all.

Review 40:Room was airey and spacious. Owners were attentive and polite. Location was good and close enough to Keswick to enjoy and far enough away from Keswick to relax.

Review 41:Nothing.

Review 42:Quality furnishings and linen. Lovely barn conversion room with character yet modern facilities. Great breakfast. Friendly and helpful service from everyone at the farm, including advice from Jean on where to park in Keswick. Nothing was too much trouble. A most enjoyable stay.

Review 43:We would definitely go back or recommend to friends. Amazing views of the lake from our spacious room. Short walk to public pathways leading to the mountains, 2 minute drive to lakeside walks. Christine and Martin are great, just ask for anything and they'll accommodate.

Review 44:slightly remote location. My 'mountain view' was pushing it a bit.

Review 45:friendliness & helpfulness of owner, staff; view from dining room; location for getting about Bassenthwaite & surrounding area.

Review 46:Nothing

Review 47:Located in lovely area, closed to everything. So cute room we had.I would to stay longer. Also it was nice clean with lovely smell in the room and in the bathroom as well. The breakfast was very tasty, spec a bacon;)We recommend them!!!!

Review 48:We were sure what time the check in was up to 23:30 as advertised on Booking.com. We got lost on our way there (sat nav and A roads!). We got a call from the B&B a couple of times and were effectively told we were inconveniencing them as they had an early start which made us feel very badly as that was not stated from the outset. We now understand as it is a working farm that they need as early a night as possible.

Review 49:Very comfortable room with really comfy beds. Great views from the front door. Great back door from our room so we could park right outside our room. Great breakfast. Great hosts with fabulous knowledge of the local area. Highly recommended. Would definitely go back :)

Review 50:Martin and Chris made us really welcome nothing was too much trouble. Clean warm and a great breakfast. Wifi not the best but I kno Martin is working on this and what can you expect in such a lovely remote location

Review 51:Small room, dominated by bed. Very abrupt way of telling us we had to leave at 10am during breakfast. Despite checkout being 10-11am. No reply to my personal feedback.

Review 52:Comfy bed Nice breakfast Martyn was helpful and welcoming

Review 53:One-off ..... farm building alarm activated sometime during the night.

Review 54:Room well set up with high quality toiletries provided. King-size bed very comfortable. Easy parking, close to room. Friendly atmosphere in bright, homely lounge and breakfast room.

Review 55:Awoke in the night a few times to hear something scrabbling around in the loft... Not offered a choice of cooked breakfast items as described, and would have preferred poached eggs.

Review 56:Staff were friendly and helpful. Well appointed, clean ensuite. Comfortable bed. Ample supply of tea and coffee.

Review 57:There were a couple of marks on the sheet. However, I am a little ocd when it comes to bedding.

Review 58:The room was beautiful. I wanted to take it home with me. Breakfast was nice. I liked the biscuits in the room.

Review 59:Everything - the breakfast was really good, the staff were friendly, the location was good (albeit a bit far out, but that is part of the charm), shower was great, bed was comfortable. It was a slightly colder weekend, and the heating was very welcome!

Review 60:The pillows, that's all - that's possibly down to the fact that we are used to our own pillows and not down to the pillows there though. Also I think it would be great if the room had an iron and small ironing board for people staying in that room as it is off the main house so requesting one from there seems like a fuss, also it could do with a little bit more lighting for people coming back late on the dark nights. These are not things I didn't like just suggestions to make it 100% perfect.

Review 61:We stayed in the luxury room which was fantastic. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and the room was decorated with banners and balloons and a bottle of Asti Martini on ice as requested.

Review 62:Nothing at all.

Review 63:Wonderful location and great view, clean room and comfortable bed, very delicious breakfast, and very friendly, kind staff. We're so happy to stay at the Highside Farm B&B. Thanks a lot ! > G.M.

Review 64:Unable to pay by card.

Review 65:easy to find on main road, quiet, nice walk to Bassenthwaite village, good food and beer at the Sun Inn (only pub) good breakfast.

Review 66:Our arrival was greeted with some confusion and there was a different lady at breakfast every morning. To get even better value for money, the grilled food at breakfast needs to be less chewy. The pillows in the bedroom were a bit hard - a disappointment in such a lovely big, comfortable bed! Minor complaints, really!

Review 67:The room was very comfortable, the facilities were great, everything was clean and the bed was made every day. The views from our bedroom were beautiful.

Review 68:The location is far from the town where all shops and entertainment. We had to take taxi twice as buses aren't so regular in evenings. We spent extra £20, at least, which if spent in another hotel in town, our stay will be less concern with transportation. Second of all, in the toilet, there was towels for one person only while we were two staying in the room. Not just that, the staff accused us of stealing the "not-found" towels, which means they thought they have already provided them. They way they accused us was insulting as the lady ran on the street to "catch us" saying: did you, by mistake, took the toilet towels ?!. Lastly, the view wasn't great from the room's window and you can't see the lake (compared to their advert).

Review 69:First thing first, the man who waited us in front of the hotel was very welcoming and he is a very lovely person. Secondly, I like the location of the hotel as it is in a quit area and no noise at all, but ...

Review 70:The room was immaculate, the host was very friendly and made us feel very welcome, the breakfast was delicious! We would highly recommend Highside to anyone visiting the area!!

Review 71:Lovely comfortable B & B. Helpful, friendly owner and fab breakfast!
