Reviews for The Royal Duchy Hotel

Review 1:I arrived at the Hotel, and the staff were very welcoming. My room was very Spacious for a Single Room. Breakfast was very good and a Good start to the day. And the View from the dining area looking over the Bay. I will Re-Visit the hotel again when I am next in the Area.

Review 2:This is difficult, because i liked everything about the hotel and the staff.

Review 3:The layout of the room, customer friendly staff who were extremely helpful. The concierge gentleman was very helpful, he was smartly turned out and arranged a taxi for me, he is one of the best concierge i have ever met.

Review 4:My room 124 was extremely hot and I had to keep a fan on overnight and keep the window open. I think it was located over the kitchen area so also had the noise of an extractor fan or generator.

Review 5:I live in Falmouth, so know that this hotel has a great reputation. On arrival a lovely man in top hat and tails gave me a great parking spot and took a genuine interest in making sure my arrival at the hotel was smooth and welcoming... an asset to the hotel :) I paid an extra £3 for inroom breakfast which was very good.

Review 6:Wifi: Claiming they have wifi was crazy. Wifi may be off for 8 hours at a time. When on, it was rarely available for more than a couple of minutes before disconnecting. Downloading a webpage may take more than 7 minutes. Toilet: the toilet wouldn't stop running. They disabled the toilet and didn't fix it until the next day. While they did offer us a different, lower grade room, it was very inconvenient.

Review 7:Fabulous staff

Review 8:2 mirrors in the bathroom for a dwarf and a giant but none for an average height person

Review 9:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful views and good food.

Review 10:Restaurant staff could be more efficient, especially the restaurant supervisor/manager. Good quality coffee should be served with breakfast instead of charging extra £2 for it. Breakfast was reather warm than hot but the plates were roasting, should be the opposite way.

Review 11:Beautiful location, nice pool area with sauna, housekeeping staff excellent, acceptable prices in the bar and restaurant, lovely afternoon tea.

Review 12:Shower was weak and very poor for this standard of hotel. Wifi did not work and had to be reset, but it took three calls to the front desk. Bed was not comfortable it felt like i was sleeping up hill....

Review 13:Location room with a sea view

Review 14:You only have 2 heated loungers and two ladies were hogging them so we never got to use them.

Review 15:The Staff were unforgetable and the food was to die for. The Location was out of this world and felt like our weekend was a holiday.

Review 16:The only problem was that on the two mornings we had breakfast , the initial welcome on each morning, was not too welcoming, on the second morning we were given a table that was clearly "wonky" and although we were moved it seemed to be an effort! But I would recommend the hotel, and return myself.

Review 17:Great position, pleasant friendly staff (although see what I didn't like), Breakfast great and very clean.

Review 18:Was in the single room and it felt a little bit cramped but very nicely appointed. Minor issue for me though.

Review 19:Location great. Staff very friendly. Room good value and cooked breakfast was really nice. Would go back again.

Review 20:Some staff were more than helpful and friendly sadly there were others just not and this spoilt the feel of the place. Facilities good but just not perfect, lacking finishing touches especially in pool area. The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, lumpy and way to soft, back still sore 3 days post visit and I never get back trouble.

Review 21:Location was lovely brisk walking distance to town with the benefit of a lovely quiet sea front location.

Review 22:Location and layout Breakfast area and how it's not an open buffet instead it was cooked and prepared to individual taste Cleanliness of the rooms and facilities which are up to date

Review 23:Bathroom shelf above sink!!! definite hazard if you want to crack your head when bending to wash your face. Hotel temperature far to hot.

Review 24:Lovely friendly hotel

Review 25:Attitude of bar staff in restaurant. Made to feel uncomfortable when going down to dinner as partner wasn't wearing a shirt.

Review 26:Rooms were immaculately presented & reception staff very welcoming.

Review 27:We travel abroad frequently and have difficulty in England finding hotels which are as well decorated, professionally staffed, and comfortable as in Spain and France. The Royal Duchy measured up in every way. It was very well presented with good service and facilities, the room was well equipped and extremely clean. The staff know their responsibilities and are efficient which allows you to relax and enjoy your stay.

Review 28:A bit noisy with kitchen fans , best to request room away from this.

Review 29:Nice pool and sauna. Great location near the beach. Beautiful views from terrace bar.

Review 30:The Welcome, the staff, the cleanliness, the facilities, the view absolutely first class. 8 year boy, 6 month girl, Mum, Nan, Grandad, all think its the best hotel ever!

Review 31:WiFi signal and internet bandwidth is poor, which was only an issue, because Vodafone and Three operator signals were also poor in the whole town. It was difficult to look for info on places around.

Review 32:It is closer to a 5 star hotel than any other 4 star hotels I stayed in before. Location, staff and facilities are excellent.

Review 33:WiFi was slow

Review 34:Lovely hotel right by the beach, shops, restaurants. Breakfast was great to.can't fault this little gem of a hotel.loved it will will return back for sure.

Review 35:The sea view room was excellent and provided a relaxing experience during our stay. We particularly enjoyed unwinding on the terrace during the late afternoon, as the views were beautiful and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Afternoon tea was very pleasant on the terrace. Dinner and service were excellent and the entertainment was also very fitting for the ambience. Breakfast was also very good, particularly the "al la carte" menu.

Review 36:Wi-Fi really poor. Staff reported it to BT but remained intermittent throughout week long stay. Expected much better Wi-Fi facilities even when free to use. Evening meal good but pricey so chose to eat in town for half the price!

Review 37:Great views out to sea. 10 minute walk into Falmouth town & short walk onto shingle beach with good sandy beach 5 mins up the road. Loved swimming pool & snooker table. Made use of bowls on front lawn & table tennis. Room comfortable & breakfast excellent.

Review 38:Bed a little soft and unfortunately guests were smoking outside our bedroom window.

Review 39:Friendly staff attention to detail. Excellent service. Beautiful location.

Review 40:Apart from the first breakfast my 2 boiled eggs were never cooked the way I asked which was for 6 minutes so they were not hard but not sloppy runny which happened even on a second lot. The main course of the dinner ( chicken)was served barely warm and the duchess potatoes were cold. The crab bisque was excellent

Review 41:the view from terrace and sitting area and the pool

Review 42:The bed was two singles pushed together, not the most comfortable. The WiFi was unreliable and kept dropping out, but was still usable.

Review 43:Excellent location, sea views from Pendennis castle to the Helford. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 44:Given the price of the room i.e.£ 320 per night for bed and breakfast I feel the room itself was small I stay in a vast amount of hotels and regularly stay in London hotels and hotels abroad and the cost of this room should have enabled the assignment of a more substantial size room

Review 45:The staff by the far the best I have ever experienced anywhere they without exception were superb especially Alan and Meg and the assistant manager wonderful. I also loved the food and the Spotless hotel wonderful

Review 46:Evening meal I had was not to the standard I was expecting, I had pork and it was so tough!! It was not edible, I was offered some more but it was no better. I paid full price for the meal.

Review 47:Everything about the hotel is fantastic, the staff are amazing, the cleanliness is wonderful, the pool was superb, the breakfast was 1st class. The rooms were not huge but adequate and well appointed. The standard throughout the hotel is 5 star.

Review 48:The price is a bit expensive, but maybe it's because it's the peak season. The wifi signal is not stable.

Review 49:The staffs are very friendly. The location is good, right close to the sea side, a lot of places to walk to. The breakfast is nice.

Review 50:Wifi was exceedingly poor, expect much better these days. Shower over bath very poor water supply. Seating in lounge area uncomfortable, hard chairs.

Review 51:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar meals tasty reasonably priced.

Review 52:the hotel is in an excellent position overlooking the sea. The public areas and rooms kept clean to a high standard and the food excellent served by friendly efficient staff.

Review 53:Our first room was above the kitchen and was noisy, smelled of smoke and was very hot. Not good for sleep.

Review 54:The problem with the first night, was solved with a move to a another room. The receptionist was excellent.

Review 55:-very small room for the price we paid -noise from the outside fans from kitchen ? -bedding far too heavy for summer use, should have had sheets.

Review 56:-nice location. -beautifully kept hotel.

Review 57:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 58:The hotel staff were courteous and professional. The facilities were good and the bedroom was clean and comfortable. The general ambience of the hotel was warm and relaxing. Lived up to 4 star rating.

Review 59:The evening food menus why not some more simple dishes and cheaper prices and more guests may then dine there. We had a great meal down the road at The Flying Fish at St Michaels. B

Review 60:The location and views and great dining room.

Review 61:Considering the price, and in comparison to the many really good B&BBs in the area, the double room was tiny.

Review 62:Located close to the beach, so easy to get anywhere.

Review 63:Room was very hot and with windows open the language from the kitchen staff outside was more ' foul mouth' than Falmouth. We waited for 40 minutes for cooked breakfast after placing our order. Also felt really rushed over evening meal to vacate dining area by 9pm when meals were no longer served. It had an air of a 'care home' about it when we were looking for a romantic getaway.

Review 64:The location in Falmouth and the outside areas are excellent. The Hotel is spotlessly clean and the reception staff are very helpful.

Review 65:Room was a sea view but slightly on the small side and very warm! Fans are provided though.

Review 66:Location, views, pool area, outdoor terrace are all fabulous. Wonderful bar and restaurant, staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly the young gentleman behind the bar. Be sure to book a beauty treatment too!

Review 67:The location was great overlooking the sea, the hotel was lovely as were the staff and food, we had breakfast and bar meals with our 2 young Grand children was delicious.

Review 68:We booked B&B. If we had booked D, B&B dinner would have cost £15 each. As it was, we were charged £35 each. Although a nice meal(we eat out very often), it was frugal particularly dessert. I felt it was overpriced especially as we were guests at the hotel.

Review 69:the staff

Review 70:Absolutely wonderful location looking out over Falmouth bay. All the staff we met were welcoming and friendly making our short stay a great experience.

Review 71:Children's playroom first thing you see as you get to reception seemed an odd place for it and a bit out of place. Seemed to be out of character with the hotel but not a problem, just an observation.

Review 72:Cleanest hotel I've stayed in. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Couldn't fault it.

Review 73:The food on the whole was good, but a slight criticism was the restaurant food. On two separate occasions the dessert was still frozen when served, and also the Beef at Sunday lunch was on my opinion underdone.

Review 74:The sea views where breathtaking. We also loved the staff, friendly and very professional.

Review 75:Room smaller than we expected and although was a room with a view, the window was fairly small and made smaller by curtains. The curtains must have initially had tie backs - but these were missing. Apologies for being picky - but such a small difference would make a difference.

Review 76:Staff extremely friendly, room and hotel clean and food lovely

Review 77:The bed was not flat and slopped in towards the middle. We were not told untill we got to the hotel that the pool and spa was closed for 2 weeks. Hotel was nice but not for younger couples. Would suit over 50's.

Review 78:The staff were very friendly. The food was nice.

Review 79:Comfort of room and lovely sitting rooms with Sea views. Ate in the Terrace bar and had a very enjoyable meal beautifully cooked and served. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 80:very very poor wi fi connection (you can take the password from reception but is not useful at all), bad mobile phone signal (but is not hotel fault, just saying)

Review 81:amazing hotel, very nice staff, free car park, sea view <3, nice location. Good position/short distance for Eden Project and Mount St Michael

Review 82:Evening meal in the restaurant was not the standard we expected. In fact we didn't enjoy any of it other than the cheese and coffee. The bar menu looked to be a better choice.

Review 83:Cleanliness, cheerful staff, updated facilities.

Review 84:To hot in the bedroom. Had to sleep with window open, not a big deal.

Review 85:Love the plane, and hotel. Big bathroom, and nice wiew. Must test the swimmingpool. ++

Review 86:The wifi didn't work very well. The water pressure in the shower was poor.

Review 87:The staff were so attentive and very friendly. The hotel was immaculate, and breakfast was fresh and tasty.

Review 88:Booked a twin room 2 months in advance,Arrived at Hotel to find we had a double bed, Not much fun sharing with your Mother

Review 89:Food was exceptional!Highly recommend & value for Money.Set menus & price.

Review 90:Our room was a bit of a squeeze - not storage space and the bet was a little uncomfortable - we did book last minute though so maybe we got one of the smaller rooms. It didn't impact our stay though - we had a great time and would definitely recommend it

Review 91:The staff were really welcoming, the breakfasts great and the location fantastic.

Review 92:Good to note that the Brend group do everything possible to reduce the carbon footprint, therefore, surprised to find the biscuits in the welcome pack in a Cornish hotel were made in Scotland ???

Review 93:Excellent food and service. Very friendly and efficient staff. Excellent location

Review 94:Three cheers for the fine Royal Duchy If fashion, you'd say it was Gucci The whole of the staff should be applauded I'd stay a week, if I could afford it!

Review 95:As we were one of the last rooms available the room was very hot at night even with the windows open.so think we were near the central heating system

Review 96:Breakfast was very good , enjoyed the pool and the updated décor in the dining room staff were friendly and helpful and room very clean.

Review 97:Seating position in restaurant seemingly dictated by room.

Review 98:Staff very friendly and helpful, good service. Quality of food / wine / drink excellent. Relaxing lounge with great view if the bay. Pool / sauna. Room small but comfy and clean, good bathroom.

Review 99:My room was beautifully decorated and had everything you could wish for. Service at beakfast was superb, attentive and professional. This hotel richly deserves its fabulous rating.

Review 100:The room was to hot I love being warm but it was ridiculously hot . Also the outlook from the windows in the bedroom was a real let down and a bit shabby.

Review 101:The location was fantastic swimming pool and sauna really nice and dinner was outstanding

Review 102:Not as relaxed as it could have been, staff made me feel somewhat on edge.

Review 103:The room was spotless and extremely comfortable. I purchased a late deal and found it very good value.

Review 104:All of it. Superb location. The hotel staff were all very kind and friendly. My room was great and it was clean, tidy and very spacious for a single room.

Review 105:Room was a bit dark - perhaps it needed a lighter colour on walls. Other than this was was very good.

Review 106:The location and staff at this hotel were both excellent.

Review 107:Paid extra for sea view and room was very small, poor water pressure so shower was useless bed mattress had sunk needed replacing, wifi kept crashing

Review 108:Good location and very clean, nice hotel let down by bedroom

Review 109:size of bathroom was tiny very pokey and much smaller than our bathroom at home hardly room to swing a cat.

Review 110:The way we were welcomed on arrival by 'Jimmy' James concierge excellent old fashioned courtesy great people skills welcomed us like old friends on a wet and windy miserable day.The hotel is just lovely and all staff we encountered were polite and so helpful.Imogen on reception is a delight and went out of her way to book us a table at The Gylly Beach cafe(a must food and host wonderful)!!-I would highly recommend this hotel the staff are just super and could teach the chain hotels a thing or two-we will definitely be back.

Review 111:The bathroom in one of the rooms we had was quite small for three of us to share.

Review 112:We loved our stay. The location on the was lovely, with a great view of the bay from the restaurant and bar. We didn't dine in the hotel, as we only had a short stay, but breakfast was excellent and the menu for bar food, tea, and dinner looked very appetising. The staff were all friendly and very helpful, and service was great - from laundry being returned in the space of a couple of hours, to suggestions of child friendly places to eat in town. We had the lovely warm pool to ourselves on both mornings of our weekend stay, which was wonderful - our young children were especially delighted. They also enjoyed playing on the pirate ship outside, and in the playroom indoors - handily located near reception, so they could amuse themselves safely when checking out and loading up the car.

Review 113:Bar service was a bit haphazard. Room was very small but well appointed.

Review 114:Good location overlooking the sea. Lovely indoor pool. Excellent food and restaurant

Review 115:We had been staying at B&B's in the region, and this was a more standard hotel. We couldn't stay an additional night in St. Mawes and the Royal Duchy had a room, so we went there. It was fine -- not a thing wrong. It just wasn't as warm and interesting and comfortable as what we had been visiting.

Review 116:We were there only one night, but the staff was lovely and gave us an excellent recommendation to an outside restaurant - doesn't always happen. Room was spacious and clean.

Review 117:Where do I start? As good as any of the major international chains, great location, well maintained, friendly staff, lovely breakfast, comfortable rooms

Review 118:First room really hot. Requested a room change due to lack of ventilation and noise from kitchen fans below when the window was open.

Review 119:Housekeeping was excellent, staff very pleasant. Was treated well when requesting a change of room. Alternative room was first class.

Review 120:Stayed in a room I presume was next to the pool, Unable to sleep because of the noisy fans going all night

Review 121:Hotel looked amazing stylish and clean, comfy bed

Review 122:View from both windows was appalling, some sort of metal sheds. Noise terrible from three large extractor fans each with two fans. Smell of cooking was overwhelming. Couldnt shut windows as room small and needed air. At a price of £107 for single room, not worth it.

Review 123:Room was clean and comfortable.

Review 124:Bedroom was too hot and there was not obvious thermostat, so opening window was only way to moderate conditions.

Review 125:location; view from windows; food; friendly service

Review 126:There was no reception on our t.v. The screen either froze or just blanked. Very frustrating when trying to view news or quizzes. Very little entertainment but what was provided was staged in the wrong venue, i.e. dining room rather than lounge. The lighting in the bedroom was not at all geared for using the "dressing table" for makeup [in common with the majority of hotels] and being vertically challenged the bathroom mirror which was lit appropriately was too high.

Review 127:The hotel was in a beautiful position and the staff were marvelous. The pool was grand, warm and mainly unoccupied. Dinner and other snacks that we did try were excellent. Rather seems like the bad over shadows the good column but it was a lovely week in a grand hotel and I would still recommend it highly.

Review 128:There was nothing we were unhappy with. We had a great few days, wish we could have stayed longer and will be back. Loved the location.

Review 129:We loved the location, was tranquil and relaxing. The staff were professional, polite and accommodating. The Hotel was spotlessly clean and very close to Falmouth town, walking distance. We loved our stay, will recommend to friends and will be back soon.

Review 130:The food in the resturant was far too rich.We didn't enjoy it. There was suprisingly no vegetarian menu available.A menu had to be especially printed. In Sidmouth Belmont we had no problem. The menu was also complicated. The staff were also unsure about costs etc.

Review 131:breakfast

Review 132:Great location- literally at the beach front, fantastic sunsets. Immaculate room, very comfortable bed. Last but not least - superb staff ! Especially thanks to Tomas, who is incredibly helpful, very well knowledgeable about the area - real asset to the company ! Fantastic, will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Review 133:Temperature of swimming pool...too cold for young kids The bar menu is a little limited...I'm allergic to seafood and we didn't use the restaurant because of our baby and toddler...so it was either the burger or a rump steak...which were both fantastic

Review 134:Room Play areas for kids Views from bar/restaurant Snooker table

Review 135:A little pricy for a standard room

Review 136:The quality of the hotel was wonderful. The staff couldn't be more helpful. The breakfast was outstanding and just s short walk to beaches and shops
