Reviews for Plumpton House
Review 1:The description of the rooms were misleading, we reserved two rooms since we were travelling with our daughter (5 years old), however the bedrooms were not joined and were off a common hallway. We ended up not using the second bedroom at all, but there was no discount offered. We would have preferred the family room priced at 36 euros less.
Review 2:The country location was great and the breakfast was good. The host was friendly and helpful.
Review 3:I love the warm princess bed and the view outside the window, the spacious room and bathroom is so lovely and clean. And the breakfast is extraordinary yummy and warming for visitors from Asia Taiwan.
Review 4:Miriam have decorated all details with great care. Feel yourself wellcome. Very tasty continental breakfast. Toaster on each table. Wonderfull view during breakfast in the wintergarden. Wifi fast enough. Felt like at home!
Review 5:NO WIFI IN BARN AS ADVERTISED!!!! T.V unreliable. No sink in kitchenette, not sure how you are supposed to fill the kettle!
Review 6:lovely decor and breakfast
Review 7:We stayed in the converted barn, and while the upstairs is nice, the downstairs entrance, kitchen and bathroom areas are pokey, dark, and dingy, shoddily renovated, and something scuttled in the kitchen. For wifi, you need to sit in the corner of one bedroom to get the most pathetic signal -- nothing downstairs or in any other room. Lack of natural light downstairs. We won't stay here again.
Review 8:The barn bedrooms (upstairs) are attractive, light, and a good size, and the location was convenient for an early morning EuroTunnel trip. Breakfast was generous, and the staff responsive.
Review 9:Separate bathroom, although private to the room was a bit awkward. Advertised as having a pool table but no sign of one.
Review 10:Comfortable room. Beautiful sunset from the conservatory. Good breakfast.
Review 11:Very small double beds in our room and didn't have right size sheets.
Review 12:Warm welcome, plenty of space and nice setting. Tennis for the kids nice bonus.
Review 13:Rooster started at the crack of dawn and woke us up. Dogs were continually barking too outside the property.
Review 14:Quiet location. Spacious bedrooms upstairs but a little small downstairs. Ongoing work being done downstairs.
Review 15:On Arrival shown to room after 6 hr drive to find No Kettle or any facilities to make a Hot drink or Glasses for water, no Drinks was offered, No where local to get food, wife was disappointed with Breckfast that this was 1st hot drink in 27hrs that it wasn't just normal tea, take own Teabags Tetley or Yorkshire wasn't available
Review 16:The room was very pleasant and clean Bathroom was large But why the Loo roll was 9ft away from Loo did make me chuckle..needs updating.
Review 17:One of the staff members that was responsible for serving breakfast was bare foot and her hair was not brushed. The cheeses on the cheese board were dry and the same as the previous morning. The juice bottle had old crusty orange juice residue on the neck of the bottle. Milk jug was chipped. There was also a small dog tied up outside under a tree without water that I could see, lying in its own poo. My husband mentioned this to the staff and we were told he bit someone and the owner who was her boss tied him up outside. This stressed us out and impacted negatively on the stay.
Review 18:Access to motorway was very good. Quiet, rural retreat. Spacious room, big shower.
Review 19:We have missed the guidance and warmth of the owner, information of local activities and an English breakfast. She went away when we arrived.
Review 20:Nice environment, nice premisses, nice room
Review 21:Fantastic place to stay, we loved it so much on the way out to France, we booked to stay again on our way home. The kids loved it and wa t to go back.
Review 22:The owner was lovely. The house was amazing and the surroundings were stunning. A most enjoyable stay and will defenetly stay again if we are in the area. Our rooms were wonderful as was the bathroom.
Review 23:One of our friends' room has no signal from BT WIFI.
Review 24:Really nice breakfast with a wonderful country side view. Service from Maya is excellent and welcome. Would love to come back again. :)
Review 25:Wake up call by cockerel, and outside dog and rabbit in confined spaces!
Review 26:The landlady was lovely, very hospitable. beautifully restored upstairs barn, needed a bit more work done downstairs, but i believe is in the process of being done.
Review 27:The shower was Luke warm, not warm enough for the children. The house was very cold at night time although heaters provided would have been nice for some extra blankets for the bed and also to snuggle up to on the settees. The tv didn't work but it was a very very windy night so not Maya's fault the aerial must have moved. The wifi just worked in the last bedroom nearest the hotel.
Review 28:Lovely breakfast plenty of choice gorgeous warm croissants. Spacious house for a family to stay. Nice bedrooms, comfy beds. Maya was lovely.
Review 29:No en suite to our room and no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. However the owners were extremely helpful and bought us tea and coffee to our room. Well over and above the normal service. Excellent
Review 30:Very clean and tidy. Warm and comfortable. Wonderful continental breakfast. Comfy beds in the family room.
Review 31:cottage was cold when arriving - only electric heaters could not create nice warm feeling - even when not freezing outside. No Wifi in the cottage.
Review 32:Very friendly owner , nice breakfast
Review 33:The bathroom needed a little updating.
Review 34:The location was lovely and the owner was very welcoming. Although there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room the owner made us drinks and brought them to our room.
Review 35:No ensuite, bathroom needs refurbishment, doesn't accept debit/credit cards. Had to copy the wi-fi code off the front door which was a bit weird.
Review 36:Clean, tidy and well organised. Beds very comfortable, very good breakfast, free wi-fi.
Review 37:Shared bathroom not always ideal.shower didn't have much pressure and kept going from hot to cold.An electric shower would be a big improvement.Didn't appreciate being woken by a cockrel ! Also pubs were full on a Saturday night trying to find somewhere to eat was difficult -we didn't appreciate driving up and down strange country lanes in the dark, late at night.Recommend the Blacksmith pub.
Review 38:Spacious rooms and plenty of storage space. In the dining conservatory you look directly onto fields, such a lovely rural location.
Review 39:TV didn't work very well and was a bit tiny - could do with an upgrade
Review 40:plenty of space for four of us in three bedrooms and a small reception room. Beds were comfy. kids loved the pets (cat, dog, chickens, rabbit). breakfast was lovely
Review 41:A bit disorganised- e mail gave the impression an early check in had been agreed, but actually the owner turned up 15mins late for the standard check in, meaning we waited outside for 75 mins. The barn where we stayed had a slightly unfinished feel to the downstairs, but the upstairs was lovely (no curtains in one of the bedrooms though!)
Review 42:Lovely quiet location Friendly owner Lovely breakfast Good to have the tennis courts
Review 43:Large, comfortable, quiet room in a very lovely house. The hostess was charming and welcoming. The breakfast was the best continental breakfast I have ever had and it was served in a beautiful sunroom. Would love to stay there again. Absolutely excellent.
Review 44:The hostess was very welcoming - friendly and professional and happy to help us. Our room was lovely - bright, fresh, and clean and with outstanding views across fields and lovely sunsets. Our son was captivated by the animals as well! It was close to Ashford for us, which was important as we were headed to the Eurostar terminal after our final morning there, yet in the countryside.
Review 45:bit stuffy at night.

Review 81:Can't think of anything.
Review 82:Very comfortable rooms. Excellent continental breakfast. Friendly hostess. Charming environment.
Review 83:Remote from restaurants/town.
Review 84:Clean and comfortable beds
Review 85:Maya was extremely friendly and welcoming, providing helpful informationabout the local area. I loved the room decor, and the uninterrupted viewfrom the breakfast room.
Review 86:Seperate bathroom form the room itself is not practical, but it's the only thing I can think of.
Review 87:The owner told about the surroundings and eateries nearby. On her advice we ate somewhere we never would've found, was excellent! Breakfast was excellent, with fresh baked bread and fruit.
Review 88:Absolutely nothing.
Review 89:Very friendly host who did more than enough to make us feel welcome; large bedroom; separate large bathroom; beautiful breakfast offerings (including oven-fresh croissants & pastries); located in a lovely quiet area near a village with good pubs & restaurants; handy to a bigger town if needed; plenty of parking space.
Review 90:MIS-SOLD! After scouring this site for safe, family friendly, 2 bedroom accomodation (which is v hard to find). We paid £260 (2 nights) for the '2 Bedroom Suite' (inc. private bathroom) at Plumpton House, which i assumed would be a self-contained SUITE comprising 2 rooms and a bathroom. i.e. part of the B&B entirely given over to us, that we could lock the door to and sleep easy, with our children safe, and a private bathroom. Either a cottage, dairy or a wing of the house etc. What we ACTUALLY got was- 2 normal, separate bedrooms in a B&B (i.e. our kids sleeping down the landing in another room) with the (theoretically exclusive) use of a bathroom across the landing, which is something VERY DIFFERENT indeed. So for security, we ended up with 1 adult + 1 child in each room. Wouldn't be such a concern if u have 2 teenage lads maybe, but a big worry with 2 small children. We could have achieved this at a chain hotel at lower cost, nearer our destination. After a poor night's sleep in a child's bed i thought 'oh well- a great big home cooked breakfast will redeem this place' - downstairs our hearts dropped as there was just cold cuts, fruit, cereal etc. admittedly a good choice, in a pleasant conservatory and with a very attentive host (and the croissants were good by UK standards). To be fair, a cooked breakfast hadn't been advertised, i just assumed it was par for the course at a big, premium, farmhouse B&B, but most guests here seem to be returning to the continent so perhaps there's little demand. Finally - the curtains in the children's room were flimsy, thin + white, therefore effectively pointless, so at 6am it was as bright as if the lights were on!
Review 91:Very friendly, helpful host (Maya). Quiet, pretty, rural location. The accomodation is clean, spacious + well appointed. Lovely views acriss to the hills. Some animals on site to amuse the children (1 rabbit, 2 ducks, chickens etc) although some in cramped conditions. e.g. the poor giant rabbit in a small hutch took up literally 30% of the entire volume, like a human living in a phonebox.
Review 92:We were particularly well received. The place is quite and beautiful and well locatif. Rooms have a lot of Space and are very clean. This is definitely a place I would recommand.
Review 93:all was really perfect.
Review 94:We loved all. Very quiet and really beautiful countryside, perfect facilities, very clean and confortable room, we have felt like at home! Very friendly for the kids - there is very nice rabbit in the yard to play with:) Very good breakfast and very warm reception - thanks a lot Maia! Surely we'll be back again soon!
Review 95:I felt slightly cold during the break fast.
Review 96:The owner is friendly and helpful. Even though I arrived late night, she welcomed us with her good smile. we stayed with good feeling. Breakfast is really nice with good scenery through the windows. I talked with her long time, her story of her home town was really impressed. I'd like to stay this B&B again.
Review 97:Welcome was lacking in detail (not shown sitting room and had to ask for location of bathroom) Lack of extra pillows and towels No tea/coffee in room and not even a glass Room for breakfast was extremely cold
Review 98:Food at breakfast was good Bedroom large and comfortable
Review 99:No charm, size of room, dated bathroom down the corridor, poorcontinental breakfast without anything "homemade".
Review 100:Good bed, good location very nice restaurant near by indicated by owner.
Review 101:No cooked breakfast Not ensuite To tea or coffee in the room Too expensive compared to other b&b's in the area with all the above.
Review 102:Large Bedroom
Review 103:Owner's were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was really nice and we were asked if everything was fine for our toddler. Maya offered to make her something else. When we first got there we were offered a cuppa which we gladly took up. She also made a real effort with my little girl. With us being in the countryside the night time stars were very impressive. We were about 3 miles out from Ashford which we found just right. Nice to see they were trying to keep up with the maintenance of such a big home which didn't interfere with our stay
Review 104:I believe we were the first people to stay in the room. Electrical setup was not good; fuses blew and we had no hot water. Impossible to locate light switches; leaking sink - taps so low that one could hardly put hands into the water.
Review 105:Owner was very helpful and did everything possible to make our stay pleasant.
Review 106:Maya welcomed us when we arrived quite late and showed us to our room which was spotless! She then offered us a drink and made our very tired girls a hot chocolate each! The bathroom was not ensuite but was very close to the room and was also spotless! We slept very well in the two double beds. The continental breakfast in the morning was exceptional! Overall our stay was short but sweet! Thank you Maya.
Review 107:There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room although this will soon be amended
Review 108:Lovely breakfast and very friendly and helpful hostess. Use of the tennis court.
Review 109:Maya is the most obliging host. Just ask, and she will deliver. Everything was spot on, and at a great price. If you want to be out of the hustle bustle at night, but only 5 - 10 mins drive to get back to urban life, then stay here. We thought we were a million miles from the town. Great location, and nice and quiet. Can't recommend this place enough.
Review 110:Only reservation was that the bathroom was not connected to the room. It was in the hallway.
Review 111:The owner of the house was extremely kind, and very caring. Everything was great and the breakfast was excellent. House was very clean and peaceful.
Review 112:No hot breakfast. Maya will make toast, however.
Review 113:SO MUCH SPACE! Rooms have lots of room to move around; bathrooms are large and simple; spacious lounge room; billiards room in the basement; and beautiful conservatory for breakfast. Maya is sweet and has a lot of suggestions for touring and eating. Gorgeous views of the countryside.
Review 114:It's close to Canterbury and the small and beautiful town of Rye. The host was very nice and welcoming. She wanted us to feel very comfortable in her house. Very generous breakfast and excellent coffee.
Review 115:things that may bother others more than they did us - had own bathroom allocated to us, but room was not en-suite; tea and biscuits offered on arrival but no tea-making facility in the room; pillows foam, not feather; no chair in room; curtains thin, so very light in room at 5am. None of this seriously detracted from our enjoyment of our stay.
Review 116:terrific friendliness of welcome; location (quiet); good size room and bathroom; good selection of toiletries; modern fittings; excellent continental breakfast with view over rolling fields
Review 117:The room we chose was not en suite but don't let that put you off. Other rooms were.
Review 118:Excellent location not far from the M20. A few good pubs within a few miles for lunch or dinner. Very comfortable stay with the most comfortable of beds. Really good breakfast too
Review 119:Would have been nice to have been offered pot of tea or, say, cafetiere of coffee rather than cups of the same at breakfast.
Review 120:Very friendly & helpful hostess. Comfortable room. Delicious continental-style breakfast.
Review 121:Nothing as such although some clients may see the private facilities not being en-suite as a drawback although it didn't concern us unduly.
Review 122:Very friendly host who couldn't do enough to please. Room occupied had lovely views on to Kent countryside. Breakfast room and continental breakfast both very pleasant. Overall a very pleasant stay.
