Reviews for Penmere Manor Hotel
Review 1:A well run hotel with friendly staff. Good facilities and a hearty breakfast. We also liked the restaurant. This is our second visit and find it a good base to explore this part of Cornwall.
Review 2:Having booked online I hadn't noticed that I needed to change the number of people staying (most places have a room fee when no food is included) and I was booking 3 different places. One for funeral a long way from home. Second to visit a dear friend seriously ill in hospital 220 miles from my home and finally this stay for my weekend birthday trip to Falmouth with my husband. I didn't notice that it said 1 person only.(my fault as I didn't check this or would have stayed in another hotel). We were very shocked that they charged us an extra £66 just for a second person sharing the same very small room with no food included. Our budget is low due to being unable to work from ill health. Unfortunately that meant that we were unable to actually afford to eat out (except for one fish and chip takeaway that we shared) so we had to go and buy a few cheap things to eat.(pot noodles etc.) This really made my special birthday weekend rather a disappointment.
Review 3:Bed was comfortable but room very small. Room was clean although a little noisy with a party going on one night.
Review 4:Stay here about 3 times a year. This visit was a quick trip and unfortunately there was a little mix up on a Ground floor v upstairs Garden Room but was dealt with politely by the receptionist.
Review 5:A group of 8 of us (4 couples) stayed at the Penmere Manor to welcome in the New Year. We ended up leaving a day early as the hotel didn't provide us with the comforts we expect when paying £100 a night per room. The smell of the corridor was grotesque and upon entering the room there were several stains on the floor. The beds were not comfortable - our double bed was two single mattresses pushed together. When paying a good amount of money for a double room the least you expect is a double mattress. Upon checking out a day early we were not asked how our stay was or why we were leaving early. Avoid this hotel - you will find better value for money elsewhere.
Review 6:Pool and jacuzzi. Superior rooms are a good size. Falmouth is lovely.
Review 7:Bathroom needs attention. Toilet roll holder on far side of room out of reach when sat on toilet. Shower head needs to be replaced. No towel ring for hand towel. Bedroom needs modernising.
Review 8:Excellent location for my purpose. Good room rate considering time of year. Staff were pleasant & friendly. Evening meal & breakfast very good.
Review 9:Some of the older rooms had electrical problem and fused when we plugged in laptop but this was very quickly sorted by the friendly staff and an upgraded room found for us.
Review 10:Friendly and helpful staff enjoyable stay in a lovely setting.
Review 11:Bath taps had bits that fell off when you touched them Could have done with extra pillows in the room
Review 12:Comfortable room and friendly atmosphere Food very good
Review 13:Lovely hotel with warm and friendly staff in a great location. Made a very pleasant change from the usual cold steel and wood modern hotels. A short walk in to town, but food at the hotel was great.
Review 14:we were on the ground floor and heard a gushing everytime the toilet was flushed and the ceiling creaking when people moved around (early am)
Review 15:comfortable, warm and friendly
Review 16:Restaurant was a little quiet in the evening.
Review 17:We had a nice large room with a very comfortable king bed overlooking the gardens at the front of the hotel. Delicious breakfast with a great choice (we had the smoked haddock and poached eggs both days) and good spa facilities, especially the great jacuzzi. We travelled by train and the hotel is quite close to Penmere station.
Review 18:Small niggles- stopper in wash hand basin didn't work. Mechanical pumping device for toilet was extremely noisy. Temperature control for shower was difficult to get controlled, ran very hot most of the time.
Review 19:Location of hotel was good. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was good.
Review 20:1. Serious lack of sound proofing between rooms. I could hear someone's phone call. 2. Very dated decor though I can see that is the chosen image. 3. The aged electric shower sprayed water everywhere though the main water flow went straight down instead of directed over the body.
Review 21:Option of bar food instead of restaurant with a very varied menu. We arrived exhausted and didn't want a heavy (and expensive) 4 course meal.
Review 22:No socket for hairdryer by the mirror, shower a little underpowered
Review 23:Staff were friendly & helpful, breakfast was well cooked & service was efficient
Review 24:Terrifc. Both single rooms were excellent. Clean, warm, and welcoming. Breakfast excellent. Our 2 engineers said they would happily stay again. thank you.
Review 25:probably due to the time of year and the weather we found the hotel rather dark much of the time.
Review 26:hotel was warm and comfortable, the staff were cheerful and very helpful and the food was very pleasing. -all this despite it rained throughout our stay which prevented us from doing many planned things!
Review 27:The bathroom! In need of updating! All seemed dated and old fashioned - silicone around sink, bath etc was grubby and tiles on the floor - grout was missing and they were lifting. The shower attached to the bath was old and the plastic was yellow instead of white...this was down to it being old I think.
Review 28:Our room was lovely - spacious and clean - all that we needed was there.
Review 29:Dining room a little uninviting so did not staff for dinner. Breakfast was poor. Overall decoration in need of some work. Location.. too far out.
Review 30:Clean and tidy, staff very pleasant.
Review 31:Not a bad word to say about this hotel.
Review 32:Very calm atmosphere around the hotel. Excellent breakfast available. An overall great place to stay. Would certainly return.
Review 33:We didn't arrive until 9:30 (traffic problems!) but when we did there was no food available, not even a sandwich. Some furniture in room very dirty.
Review 34:Staff helpful.
Review 35:1. Standard room (original booking) was small but adequate, but the walls were so thin we could hear every word spoken next door. 2. There is no lift, which might bother some people. 3. Food menus did not inspire at all. Pasta dish (which I thought was dodgy when it was served) resulted in severe sickness through the night.
Review 36:1. Complimentary upgrade to a superior garden room following our complaint about noise from next door. Fabulous size and facilities. 2. Lovely pool area. 3. Quiet lounge, nice for a drink and reading a book. 4. Breakfast everything it should be - cooked to order and served at table, and no horrible diy toast machine!
Review 37:Room was dusty and had a smell of damp when we arrived! Then when we used the taps there was a strong smell of sewage! Had to sleep all night through the smell was awful!! It was that bad we nearly went home in the night, we did get a refund of 49 pound which we paid 99 but still wasn't happy as we should of had a full refund for this. We come to Falmouth every year for the oyster festival definately won't be staying here again and won't recommend it to anyone!
Review 38:Staff was really friendly
Review 39:Bath very dirty and grimy, hair in bath. Hair in bed. Carpets in corridors between one side hotel and other very grubby. Tiny table for breakfast.
Review 40:Very easy to find, parking convenient, friendly reception staff. Room airy and spacious.
Review 41:Not really a dislike but I found the door handles on bathroom very hard to turn with my hands (room 27) especially the outside one that was very close to the door frame. A leaver handle would have been better. A small table between the armchairs to put a couple of cups on while watching TV would have been handy. I want it all don't I!
Review 42:The room was had almost everything you could wish for. The location was quiet but with in easy reach of other arts of Cornwell. The staff were top class, friendly and helpful. Food was great to, even cooked a special meal for me.
Review 43:Damp smell, myself and all my clothes including those I didn't wear smelt of an old mouldy caravan. When I got home I had to wash my hair 3 times and all my clothes to get rid of the smell.
Review 44:Great breakfast, good facilities. Parking good.
Review 45:No in room heating. Path to car park unlit so, due to steps, it was hazardous at night. Some motion sensitive lights would be a great improvement.
Review 46:Staff were very helpful. Free parking. Gym and swimming pool.
Review 47:The room above mine had creaky floor boards so when the people above woke up I was woken up as well, Not very nice at 6-30 in the morning. My room was number 19,This was reported.
Review 48:Staff very obliging and helpful. Food was very good.
Review 49:not sure
Review 50:Hotel room was spacious and relaxing. staff were friendly and most helpful. the pool, gym, sauna and Jacuzzi were well enjoyed, especially with the bad weather whilst we were there. About 15 - 20 mins walk to the beach, Town Centre, not bad at all:-)
Review 51:The breakfasts were very good but we found the evening meals both in the restaurant and at the bar somewhat disappointing; on our last night we decided to eat elsewhere.
Review 52:The staff were professional and very friendly without being gushy. The hotel is in a beautiful location, our room was very comfortable and the leisure centre was excellent.
Review 53:This is the few hotels that can fit 2 adults, 2 children and 1 infant in a room. The room is spacious and it is great that they have curtains to section the room so the child can sleep while you stay awake. Staffs are friendly and the breakfast is good.
Review 54:Dogs welcome? Not allowed in any of the public areas or left alone in room. First experience of both of these restrictions.
Review 55:The staff were very friendly, the room was superb. Absolutely huge, well appointed and comfortable.
Review 56:The location is not very convenient. The breakfast buffet was rather limited, not enough fresh fruit for my taste.
Review 57:Accommodation was clean and comfortable. Swimming pool was nice and clean and warm. Staff friendly.
Review 58:Bathroom in garden room a little tired. Shower only ran warm. Breakfast buffet table pretty sparse. No fresh rolls either morning. Weren't offered toast had to ask.
Review 59:Large rooms. Well furnished.
Review 60:The rooms were a bit tired and dated and not at all sound proof, we could hear one couple enjoying their time together whilst in the corridor walking to our own room - try explaining those sounds to a child! The breakfast was normally undercooked even though we made specific requests to have it more thoroughly cooked.
Review 61:Overall it was a nice hotel and the staff were good.
Review 62:CCTV of the swimming pool in the bar area. It discouraged me from using the pool (being shy).
Review 63:The atmosphere. As soon as I got into my room, I completely relaxed.
Review 64:We were lucky to be allocated a free upgrade to the best room in the hotel. Our overall impression was that this was equal to most 4 star hotels that we have stayed in.
Review 65:No restaurant facilities during the day - no cream teas! The standard rooms are small and tired.
Review 66:Beautiful superior dual aspect room with huge bathroom. Lovely leisure facilities the jacuzzi was very warm and powerful. Good size pool.
Review 67:The fact that we were locked out of room out of hours (11.30pm) and NO ONE was available to help, even through the out of hours number etc. When we complained the next day, we were told it was common for keys not to work... and shown a phone in the corner we could have used if it had not be hidden away with no sign and in area that you could not see.... no real apology and no preventative actions....
Review 68:Great family room and facilities, breakfast was lovely.
Review 69:Other than breakfast time and evening meal only one member of staff covering all duties. No food available after 9pm, even bar food/snacks, not good on late arrival.
Review 70:Leisure facilities, Wifi. Free parking
Review 71:Not too fussy on the soft mattress - unfortunately did not help my arthritic shoulders.
Review 72:The excellent food dinner/breakfast and the attention of the staff.
Review 73:Bed was small. I could hear the next door when the got in to shower:(
Review 74:Good location. Abit far from the centre but taxi is only £5.00. Good breakfast and friendly stuff.
Review 75:SADLY THE BATHROOM BLIND WAS BROKEN AND AS OUR ROOM WAS ADJACENT TO RECEPTION THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EMBARRASSING
Review 76:Very friendly staff and comfortable rooms
Review 77:The barmaid who took our food order on one evening seemed drunk and our meal came out all wrong. The waiting staff were excellent and sorted it out very professionally, and the food was complementary that evening. We were surprised that there was no lunch service and we couldn't order room service. Maybe this was noted on the booking.com website...
Review 78:Breakfast and breakfast staff were excellent Maids were excellent Reception staff were excellent
Review 79:Challenging walk to and from town so drove. Car parking reasonable cost. Younger couple wouldn't mind walk.
Review 80:Pool and Spa facilities. Didn't try restaurant but bar meals are excellent value and quality.
Review 81:Room was a long walk up stairs which with a young baby was tough. Lots of trips to the car required. Ground floor would have been easier
Review 82:We travelled with our 7 month old son for a wedding and requested a cot bed to be placed in the room. We were surprised to find a lovely wooden cot with gorgeous snuggly duvet. My son loved it and we got a good nights sleep!
Review 83:The rooms could all benefit with having a fridge , also we had dinner every night , but we were the only ones as the people were going out to eat as it was cheaper , maybe the price could come down to draw them back in .
Review 84:The staff at this place made you very welcome and helpfull , and the food was very good with local ingredients
Review 85:The overall quality of the hotel was a bit disappointing. The place could use some renovation work throughout the property. The floor squeaked whenever someone walked down the corridor and the bed was really of poor quality that neither of my friends and I could sleep well. When we used water in the toilet, there was a loud vibration every five seconds or so. Quite disturbing.
Review 86:The hotel was located in a residential area of Falmouth and was very quiet. The staff were friendly and helped us check in at the bar when we arrived at the hotel because the reception was closed.
Review 87:Lack of atmosphere. Staff displayed general lack of enthusiasm. Hot water tap never fixed in bathroom despite reporting it on three separate occasions.
Review 88:Nice garden, comfortable lounge and bedroom.
Review 89:We loved the size of our family room. Comfortable beds and a lovely deep bath! Perhaps a little dated in the bathroom but such a good size and very clean, we were more than happy. And we loved the pool too. Thank you!
Review 90:The property furnishings are a bit dated, style wise, but the condition of everything is quite nice.
Review 91:This is the largest room we have seen in England. It was the size of four of our last rooms in London. The grounds are very pretty and you feel like you have gone back in time a bit.
Review 92:Room was next to reception and on the ground floor with people looking in everytime they arrived at the hotel. Not ideal, Room layout needs work, I think it looks like an attempt at updating the room at a budget cost
Review 93:Check in was good, great location easy to get to Falmouth
Review 94:Creaky floor outside long bedroom corridor!
Review 95:Comfortable homely feeling especially for anyone staying on their own, with several tables set for one at sides of dining room.
Review 96:House keeping needs new glasses, we screwed out the tops of the hand cream and soap so ahe would see they were empty, but no she just screwed them in again, plus the paper tissue box was empty and we even set this out so she could see it, but again she just left it. Thank god the girls in the reception were on the ball. Otherwise all went well!
Review 97:Location and the helpful reception girls
Review 98:Whilst the table d'hote evening meal was substantial, there is a restricted choice rotated on the menu.
Review 99:The staff were all very pleasant and attentive and gave excellent service. The room was clean and just as described in the booking details. Breakfast selection was everything you needed!
Review 100:No lights at night in the parking and the pathways around the hotel. A lot of humidity and smelly hotel. Very poor quality appliances and poor breakfast
Review 101:Location was a bit strange, not within walking distance of town or beach and surroundings outwith the hotel grounds not very inspiring.
Review 102:Nice large suite
Review 103:not sure about smoking, we could smell smoke from room below us when our windows were open
Review 104:the leisure facilities were very good and our room was up-graded which we were not expecting
Review 105:The management have clearly cut back on costs and there were not enough staff to keep everything going smoothly. The restaurant menu was haphazard to say the least and changed at the whim of the chef without informing the customer. The ambience was like the Marie Celeste - empty and lacking direction. I will not stay at this hotel again.
Review 106:The food and overall comfort of this hotel is good.
Review 107:The chairs in the room had very worn arms and looked dirty. The room was comfortable but tired and in need of updating. The chairs blocked easy access to wardrobes and there was no room to reposition them to achieve maximum comfort. Table in restaurant had wobbly legs and it should have been removed.
Review 108:Well located, pleasant ambience. Good car parking. Helpful and pleasant staff.
Review 109:Our only reservation was the extremely strong smell in the room - rather like cleaning fluid. This lessened after I switched off the air conditioning/heating. But it returned the next morning after the cleaners had been in.
Review 110:Once we had actually found the hotel (which took a long time, as we had received no advice on how to find it!), we were very pleased with almost everything we found there.
Review 111:Don't arrive at the start or end of the school day as access to the hotel passes a very narrow road outside the primary school and there were kids and parents all over the road!!
Review 112:The hotel was in a quiet location with lovely grounds, but still only a 5min drive to Falmouth town. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room and ensuite were spotlessly clean. Room service was prompt and breakfast enormous. Quite quiet for such a big hotel. Gym and swimming pool small but adequate. Will definitely go again.
Review 113:Very minor - preferred the downstairs garden room rather than the first floor.
Review 114:Hotel Staff, size of family room, spa facilities and friendly staff. Rooms are brilliant.
Review 115:Our room lacked any kind of character or charm. The decor was tired and boring and in need of work. The bathroom was also old. Shower worked well but again in need of decorating and refurbishing.
Review 116:Receptionist was warm, friendly and extremely helpful. Facilities were good, nice pool and small but well equipped gym.
Review 117:I organised a trip for 3 long term friends as I was in Falmouth on business. I booked for 2 of us and sent the hotel details to a third. When we came to check out you can imagine my frustration and annoyance when the one friend didn't get charged for breakfast which was £13.50?! And we did. The hotel informed me this was because he had rung the hotel direct?, and I ask what is the point of booking.com then?. As I organised the trip and the hotel would not of had any of that business!. If you look at your records I have used booking.com many, many times and feel like a complete idiot and it won't happen again. P.s lost my business now for sure.
Review 118:Location
Review 119:I think my only disappointment was the bed... a whopper of a bed, which to me wasn't very comfy! It felt as if a very heavy person had sat at the same point on the side of the bed and created a permanent dent which I rolled down!!Maybe the matress only needed turning top to tail...
Review 120:The staff were very helpful, and the cleaning staff very good. left a note for extra pillows which were left for us. very helpful.
Review 121:Breakfast was not very good. 1 piece of bacon, 1 sausage( not to my taste), no beans.
Review 122:Receptionist very nice and helpful. Room clean. Towels and bedding very clean
Review 123:House keeping is excellent throughout. Had a great room with lots of space and good views to the garden. Also a very large bathroom with a roll top bath! Warm and comfy with a very good bed ensured a good nights sleep.
Review 124:The swimming changing room floor was quite grubby, difficult to keep constantly clean in winter weather.
Review 125:It was good to be able to book 2 adjacent rooms for ourselves + 2 teenagers + still feel that we were not being overcharged.
Review 126:Changing rooms disappointing. WiFi intermittent. Quite a long hilly walk into centre of Falmouth, but easy drive.
Review 127:Staff very friendly. Swimming pool, gym, jacuzzi lovely. Comfortable spacious rooms. Good quality freshly cooked Breakfast and charming waiter. Pleasant gardens. Peaceful atmosphere.
Review 128:I am not complaining but the only thing I didn't like as I mention before is the prices for the food in the hotel, in the rest all very very good
Review 129:The staff brilliant a really helpful at all the time ( special mention Dan in the bar, Tracey and Gabrielle in the restaurant fantastic people love them)
Review 130:Not exactly bad experience but I definitely think breakfasts are much better than evening meals. We had three of each.
Review 131:ALL staff very friendly and helpful. Having our room upgraded. Excellent breakfasts.
Review 132:Staff friendliness, pool, location and the hotel policy of no mobile phone use in the restaurant at breakfast - what a refreshing change not having to listen to businessmen calling their clients and head offices whilst you try and relax eating breakfast. Well done Penmere Manor! Other hotels please take note!
Review 133:Exterior and interior lighting poor. Dangerously loose handles into jacuzzi. In bedroom no plug point near kettle or mirror
Review 134:Good breakfast but overpriced
Review 135:Not trying out breakfast ...but that's our fault as left early ...but cereal was good ..
Review 136:Greeted with a smile ,staff great ...food very good ..rooms clean and warm...we wer'e there as working in area ...made us feel at home..even laid on breakfast in our rooms as we left early next morning.....we was only there one nite..big thanks see you again soon
Review 137:Arrived after dark and could not find the car park! More lighting and signage needed.
Review 138:Room good, location fine, facilities good. Having a gym and a pool for the price was good
Review 139:Long wait for dinner. Age if building means floorboards very creaky.
Review 140:All staff very friendly and helpful. Able to use lounge after checked out of room. Nice setting.
