Reviews for Cornerstone B&B

Review 1:Just a bit difficult to find due to one way system, suggest directions e mailed to guests.

Review 2:Hotel was clean and warm, with helpful staff and in an excellent, town centre location.

Review 3:Hot water tap in bath was not working, or I couldn't get it to work. Didn't call the owner as was in a rush. But if I had I'm sure he would have giving a solution. Didn't stop me having a shower but I'm made of stern stuff.

Review 4:B&B walking distance from Ashford Int. Station and in the middle of high street. Great location. Owner very friendly and welcoming would definitely stay again. Had a really good sleep.

Review 5:The front door is really hidden in the street. Thin walls, the neighbor was snoring all the night.

Review 6:Good situation, breakfast location separated from the hotel.

Review 7:Great location! Close enough to the train station to be easy walking distance. Also very close to shops and restaurants but without the noise due to its location in a little alley off the high Street. Owner was lovely and went out of his way to help and be there whenever was needed. Loved the style of the place, typical Shakespearian - had the real English feel. Felt comfortable like a home away from home.

Review 8:dirty carpets, windowless bathroom, no windows in kids bedroom, hamock beds, owner smoking next to kids bedroom, breakfast in greasy cafe, having to pay for insecure parking in town carpark, owner made sure we paid for rooms before seeing them

Review 9:clean linen

Review 10:The slats on the bed was broken (not done by us) therefore the mattress bowed in the middle - therefore not the best nights slewp

Review 11:The B&B is ideally located in the centre of Ashford. The owner was very friendly

Review 12:Creaking floorboards (understandable) and banging door. Sorted by locking it

Review 13:Walking distance from station. Bohomie at the next door cafe and breakfast. Location to wetherspoons and macdonalds

Review 14:The B&B is very close to the main church, and the quarter hourly chimes which were apopealing at 11pm were appalling at 3am

Review 15:The B&B was comfortable and conveniently located.

Review 16:No toilet roll shower not working pots of milk for tea-half of them had "gone off" Breakfast in next door café was appalling -café was dirty -staff smoking in front entrance resulting in smoke blowing through café as rear door open -toast was cold -croissants had been microwaved from frozen and were unedible -tea was 'stewed'-small cup & tea bag had been left in cup before bringing to table

Review 17:At the front door there was a tin full of cigarette butts over flowing. Cigarette smoke fumes from the back of property into our room. The view from our front room was to over look a very dirty rooftop which seemed to be a storage area. The owner stated he would have a food package ready for us in our AM of leaving because we wouldn't be there for breakfast..there was no food prepared in suggested location!

Review 18:Location excellent, walk to Eurostars.

Review 19:Hard to get in with baby boggies (narrow doors). But that was just a little discomform in overall great stay.

Review 20:Great location, helpful staff. Crib & linen for baby available.

Review 21:I absolutely loved the original style of the B&B, and that the gent who showed us to our room was very lovely and told us a bit of history about the place.

Review 22:Room was not that clean! Carpet not very well hoovered, bit dusty in places. Also my coffee and biscuits weren't topped up for my second night's stay. The kettle and TV remote seemed like they had seen better days. The new bed was ok but a bit squishy for my liking!

Review 23:Big room with microwave and fridge/freezer - very handy. Liked the Tudor style with wooden beams etc, nice bedroom. Friendly owner who wasn't around much but was easy to get hold of on the phone. Breakfast in the greasy spoon cafe next door was good and served quickly.

Review 24:The location from the photos is VERY Misleading!it's between mecca bingo and kfc not quite what the little quaint picture suggests! The owner let's his son use one of the 2 car parking spaces leaving the paying guests to park in the pay and display opposite for £1/hour!

Review 25:The room itself was nice

Review 26:Only one side to get in and out of double bed - bed up against wall. Shelf over hand basin on slant - easy for items to slide off.

Review 27:Relatively close to Eurostar only railway station

Review 28:The hotel was unstaffed. We had to ring and wait some time to be admitted into the hotel. The back door was left open and remained open so we locked our bedroom door as a precaution. There was still no staff there early in the morning.

Review 29:Disturbed night owing to church bell chiming every quarter of an hour.

Review 30:Location - right in the heart of the town close to restaurants, pubs etc. Also within walking distance of place of work.

Review 31:Paul is the best host, all staff friendly and helpful. Location is perfect in centre of town. Wish i could have stayed longer. Comfortable and clean, highly recommended.

Review 32:Staff were very friendly, cooperative and helpful with our late check in & early departure, even packed a hearty breakfast for us to take on our journey. Beds and facilities very comfortable. Location was great for Ashford International Train. Good value for money.

Review 33:The shower didn't work (a dribble of tepid water); the room smelled of smoke during the night and I was kept awake by noise - later discovered out staff were smoking and being noisy in the next room (is that even legal?)! Awful experience.

Review 34:Unfortunately despite the cleanliness of the b&b and obviously recent redecoration, there was a pervading smell of damp which unfortunately let down the b&b and means I won't be returning. Drunks outside at 3am for an hour or so on a Monday night/early Tuesday morning were also somewhat surprising - perhaps their weekend celebrations had continued into the new week. Not terribly helpful when needing to do a full day's work after a bad nights sleep - though the owners could hardly be blamed for the antisocial behaviour of inconsiderate people.

Review 35:The room needs a little furniture-moving to make it suitable for wheelchair. The shower was very difficult - slippery, a step-over, no seat, and most importantly no handrail - so the bathroom was not really accessible.

Review 36:Very friendly, very relaxed about hours. Gorgeous old cottage.

Review 37:A friend was in a seperate room that to be fair wasn't anywhere near as fancy as ours however as his was at a fair reduced rate, no real complaints

Review 38:Great B&B, Paul couldn't have done more, especially with our late arrival & organising parking for us. Beautiful Tudor room, would stay again

Review 39:The breakfast is provided by a cafe next door to the hotel and therefore the quality is not easily monitored by the hotel. At best it was o,k. but we probably would have preferred a breakfast at McDonalds which was across the road

Review 40:We were welcomed by the 'owner' who provided an even better room than we had booked. The room was comfortable, had a lot of charm and was extremely quiet. Easy walking distance to Ashford International.

Review 41:Staff were more than helpful, giving me a ground floor room & moving cars allowing me to get my bike off the road & safe. I would definitely Use the cornerstone again, ideally located for a night out in Ashford

Review 42:Our room was dirty. Dirty floors. Dead bugs on the bed. Dirty bath mat. Bottles of product left behind by other travellers. Worst was the drinking glasses that had (what looked and felt like) dried residue of soft drink in the bottom and on another, white toothpaste residue. Yuk.

Review 43:Location was good. Set back from the main street. It was nice to hear the church bells chime nearby.

Review 44:Beware of the hot weather. Our room wasn't aircon'ed and there was only a ceiling window.

Review 45:Great location, great all day breakfast next door, owner very helpful.

Review 46:Family room was lovely. Very comfortable beds. Shower was powerful and hot. Owner helpful. Not much parking and bit difficult to find. But overall great little b& b.

Review 47:Paul was very helpful and went the second mile . Found accommodation for an extra night as didn't have any spare rooms. Looked after our luggage while we went to Sissinghurst for the day. Took us to the Hotel collected us the next morning and took us to Ashford outlet and then collected us for the train---refused any payment so hope the shirt fitted !

Review 48:Noisy fan nearby ran until 4am

Review 49:Ancient and rickety, full of charm. Lots of beams. Host a decent " salt of the earth" type who was happy to move cars, let us in late, etc...

Review 50:Not quite as portrayed in the photo, doesn't help that google maps directs you to the back entrance when walking from the station, this entry could've been cleaner, it was quite noisy the night we were there because of close proximity To the mall, but served our purpose close to the station.

Review 51:The location is very good, 5 minute walk to the international station, and next to shops. Quaint rooms in good condition.

Review 52:Don't you people ever check the business's you advertise? I forfeited £180 by leaving. A proper inspection would have revealed that there was nothing to like!

Review 53:I didn't like anything whatsoever. The place should have been condemned.

Review 54:The Cornerstone is a quaint B & B hidden in a small courtyard off the main street. The room was good size with a small ensuite. We had to walk about 50m to the pub on the corner for a delicious and cheap breakfast.

Review 55:The room was small, the bed was against the wall which required one to climb over the bed to lie down. The place was very difficult to find and the parking arrangements not satisfactory.

Review 56:Not a lot.

Review 57:Bathroom needed more shelves for toiletries

Review 58:It was central to town and Eurostar and Paul the manager was very helpful. Towels were nice and fluffy and the room was clean and comfortable.

Review 59:The bed was showing its age with loose slats and too soft for my liking. Otherwise all was more than satisfactory.

Review 60:Location, excellent breakfast at cafe next door, period room, tea coffee and bottles water provided. Good access to public transport and the town centre facilities combined with low noise due to being set back off the road in its own courtyard.

Review 61:Nothing.

Review 62:Went to france for the day. I booked online at about 9:30am and arrived a couple of minutes later! The owner was very helpful and allowed me to park even before I had checked in. As I wouldnt be checking in until 9 or 10pm he gave me a set of keys for convenience. Room was fine, shower was great. Good hotel, nice owner.

Review 63:I'm baffled as to how this place has had so many good reviews - can only assume that rooms in another part of the building are better. Our room was dismal - two dormitory style single beds squashed in each side of the tiny room with foam mattresses. Bedding looked as if it needed a good wash and towels were frayed. Shower just dribbled - when we told the manager he suggested we use the public bathroom down the corridor where they do the laundry. Only window a skylight semi covered with old blind which meant one was woken with the dawn (very early in UK at end of May!). Wifi didn't work in room.

Review 64:The location at the back of the high street is good though a little difficult to find and parking is limited to two cars - if full guests have to park in the public car park across the street. Staff in the cafe next door (presumably part of the same business as breakfast is served there - we didn't partake but went to Wetherstones in the high street where breakfast was very good and half the price of the cafe) were friendly and helpful.

Review 65:To be fair there isnt anything i disliked but if i was being picky i would say having to pay for parking in the car park opposite

Review 66:When we arrived we was pleasantly surpised as we were taken to our room we admired how homely it felt...room with ensuite very clean and tidy with tea/coffee facilities...tv and wifi...location great in the centre of town with things to eat close by...would definitely stay again if needed lovely little place

Review 67:Just parking really, all in all was lovely.

Review 68:Very friendly staff, Paul in particular was very helpful and accommodating. We didn't have the breakfast which is unfortunate as I've heard it was very good. When it came to check out we were not rushed at all, which is lovely as I've had experienced where you're almost turfed out. The location was ideal, right on the high street, some rooms are noisier than others, eg the one by the balcony try to avoid but other rooms were fine. I would certainly recommend for this price! Parking is restricted though so bare that in mind. Michael, Emily and Roy.

Review 69:I found the Bed was very uncomfortable. Room was also noisy - you might expect some noise from town centre b&b but it was actually the church that kept me awake! not b&b's fault at all but the bloody church bells go every 15 mins all night, all hours, and the b&b sits right beside the church - I was awake from 2.30am chimes until I checked out at 7.30. Wifi didn't work (in fairness I didn't raise this problem with the owner tho). Car parking limited to two spots and first come first served basis. Access via very steep built-up concrete ramp that I scraped the bottom of my car on.

Review 70:The owner was a nice enough chap. Location in town centre pretty good. It's cheap and clean.

Review 71:Unfortunately my shower was scalding or freezing, taps wouldn't turn off.hopefully since my visit this will have been fixed. I'd a skylight in my room as the only window so the room was bathed in light as soon as the sun came up.

Review 72:The location was excellent, right in the centre of town and walking distance of railway station. The man in charge was v friendly and v helpful. The staff where the breakfast was served where exceptionally friendly - v nice start to my day.

Review 73:Charming tucked away Tudor Bed and Breakfast, right in the town centre of Ashford. No great shakes to look at from the outside, but interior is nicely fitted inside an old wooden-beamed building. Rooms decent sized, new fittings.

Review 74:My friend and I were on motorbikes and we parked on the drive right outside my windows, and there was cctv .well furnished and clean.very nice b&b.

Review 75:A bit tricky to find in the dark but if you remember acces is behind the high street it's fine

Review 76:Really quirky, much nicer than a bland travelodge type room, very helpful guy checking us in and out.

Review 77:Separate bathroom, late night and early morning street noise, breakfast in the cafe next door (greasy spoon), difficult to find and parking is virtually non-existent

Review 78:Friendly manager, central location

Review 79:Only issue was breakfast, Booking voucher showed Breakfast included but the owner said it was not. we did not cause a fuss but there was clearly some mistake.

Review 80:Forgot my mobile phone charger in the room and the landlord kindly sent it back to me the same day offering the postage. Really appreciated that! I would recommend it, good value for money.

Review 81:Comfort of bed poor mattress. Shower tray filled with water. Used water bottles not changed and was left from previous visitors. Wooden door to room warped and big gap that could see into room. Meaning privacy was compromised and security. Meant I was aware and had poor sleep.

Review 82:Good welcome and breakfast

Review 83:It was called a Band B but at no time were we given any information about breakfast. The carpet in the room had not been vacuumed. The toilet had been doused in blue cleaning stuff which had not been removed. The bathmat was a rag. The soap was secondhand at best. The bed was very soft. Ashford High Street is not a pleasant place to visit.

Review 84:We were relieved that we were only there for one night.

Review 85:lack of window in room 4 only a sky light,

Review 86:owner was really helpful, breakfast was worth the money, cafe next door was lovely, as was the man that runs it.

Review 87:Sound of, I think, a grandfather clock going off (luckily I was too hammered for it to bother me).

Review 88:Excellent Value Nice Bed Free bottled water Free Parking

Review 89:The bed was not very comfortable, and being located in the Town centre, there was outside noise until 3.00am.

Review 90:Easy check in, very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 91:we enjoyed it because we could go to the bingo it was only next door we went with my round the town and enjoy every think that was around there and also the market and the train journey was very comfortable

Review 92:the town was very very nice food was very good at the cafe next door to the hotel and we would stay again in the near future and we enjoyed the company of the stuff in the cafe and we enjoyed the company of po he was very helpful in letting us know where everything was and he was a very good helpful house and the room was fantastic it was clean and tidy bed was comfortable

Review 93:I am sensitive to smell of cigarettes and find it unpleasant.

Review 94:Friendly staff. Convenient position 5 mins from station. Arrived in evening so able to use car park behind the B&B.

Review 95:The wifi didn't connect and the bed was so old and uncomfortable. I was just so tired to look around. The mattress needs changing it's sagging with a hole in the middle which just fits you there. As having backache was not a good idea at all.

Review 96:It was nice and cosy as I like the heat. It was warm so I didn't need extra blanket which is always my annoyance wherever I go.

Review 97:Only thing I didn't like was there was smoking rooms and I could smell the smell of smoke

Review 98:Excellent location, 3-4 mins in a taxi to Ashford international, excellent location, tucked away from high street, next to everything you could possibly need!!! Hotel is clean and friendly. Great value for money!

Review 99:Room under the eaves wuth exposed beams. So much better than the usual bland rooms Friendly and helpful welcome Convenient for station. Paul booked taxi for me for following day to get to my appointment Breakfast good value, no problem having to go next door- it was just a couple of steps

Review 100:Nothing to report, but this is a converted seventeenth century coach-house, not a modern hotel. It can be hard to find if you don't have a map, and is rather a fantastic B&B type rather than a modern hotel - do not expect lots of staff, restaurant, 24-hour porterage or bar. You get a room, and that's about it, but, as said, the room is clean, comfortable and excellent value.

Review 101:Cornerstone is central, comfortable, quiet, clean and excellent value for money. Simple, basic rooms and facilities, an owner, Peter, who cannot do too much to help, and no problems at all during my stay - a hotel I would strongly recommend for anyone wanting decent, affordable rooms in Ashford.

Review 102:I had requested parking, which was available the first night but not the second. As I had specifically requested a parking space I was disappointed, being a stranger trying to find overnight parking is not easy.

Review 103:Location and cleanliness very good. Freedom to come and go as required, good since this was a centre of town location.

Review 104:Not the fault of the B&B, but close to a church with a chiming clock, so light sleepers might want to bring earplugs. (I did, and slept really well).

Review 105:Gentleman running it is lovely; very friendly and helpful. Room was spotless and well-equipped. Close to cafes and pubs.

Review 106:Maybe a bit pricey and sadly breakfast is at another premises and not the b&b.

Review 107:Location, staff and tidiness in a town where b&b's are hard to come by.

Review 108:Small room. Dirty. Poor decoration. No windows apart from skylight. Only parking for 2 cars etc etc can't be bothered to take the time to write about it

Review 109:the stairs are a monstrous climb .Could have done with a lift .I think it should be rated at the most a 2 star . the main entrance is through a small tight alley . handy for the town ,would not use it again.

Review 110:it was a room [basic]

Review 111:The floor in the room wasn't vacuumed, (was most likely an oversight considering they had a lot going on due to them re-furbishing). However when asked it was vacuumed when I returned, which I appreciated.

Review 112:The service I received was great, and the owner (I think) was very hospitable and attentive when needed. Although parking wasn't available, he allowed me to park out back, and was very accommodating to that. Bathroom was warm and tidy and bed and sheets were clean. Room was cold (apparently due to the time I was returning to the room in the evening), however when I mentioned it I was given a portable heater which was great and definitely helped . Overall it was a comfortable stay. Great service!! - Can't really rate the wifi as I didn't get a chance to use it.

Review 113:The mattress was too soft for my liking - prefer a harder bed

Review 114:Owner helpful and friendly (contacted me by phone to ensure he was at home to meet me) Given a larger room even though on my own Room and all facilities very clean Courtesy bottle of water - a nice touch Plentiful supplies of tea, coffee and milk Good, strong shower Very warm in room and bathroom

Review 115:The no smoking rule had clearly not been enforced in one area of the B&B and the twin room we had in that section was not usable due to the smell of smoke and lack of ventilation. In addition the bathroom in that same twin room had not been cleaned, the family room in the older section was quite nice except for the cold tap not working in the bathroom basin and the broken bed.

Review 116:The owner was very friendly and helpful.

Review 117:Bed broken - staff quickly addressed but broke again Breakfast served in adjacent cafe, cheap but not the best standard Too hot in the room, no control

Review 118:Location good - town centre ideal Value not bad for the area but in the round a bit expensive

Review 119:Firstly, this cannot be described as a "bed bad breakfast" since they do not offer breakfast! To indulge in this luxury you have to make your way to a cafe down the road! A menu of the delights offered by this establishment can be found in the bedroom. Our arrival was in December yet there was no heating and the room felt cold. There was a fan heater in the wardrobe but this didn't work, and there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. One thing that was also missing was any kind of reception area, however, we were told that this was in the process of refurbishment, if so, then why had he taken our booking and the money? As one other reviewer has noted, there were just two half full tired looking bottles of shower gel and soap in the bathroom and tired looking is also how we appeared after our one night stay. We were not able to get much sleep due to the constant groan of some kind of machine all night, interspersed with shouting from the local yobs after a late night drinking session! We paid £60 for our one night stay, which did not include breakfast from the cafe up the road! Along with the above, some of the light bulbs did not work, there was dirt around the window, and the plug socket was loose. We have stayed in many hotels all over the world and this ranks as one of the worst!

Review 120:Nothing

Review 121:Slightly uncomfortable bed with a dip in the middle.

Review 122:The owner, Paul, was a great guy - very friendly and helpful. The B&B is in a handy location, about 10 minutes walk from the rail station. It's a lovely old victorian building. And the breakfast, which is served in the cafe next door, was brilliant if you like a greasy full English breakfast, which I do.

Review 123:Loved this B & B. We stayed one night and walked to the train station the next morning for our trip to Disneyland. Super nice Innkeeper! A little hard to find in the dark but the walkway in across from the circular fountain and diagonal parking spaces. We would stay again! Thanks for the kind service!

Review 124:Breakfast served next door found the man there very surly with a couldn't care less attitude although the waitress was charming.

Review 125:A very nice clean Grade 2 listed accomadation, very clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful. We only stopped for one night as we were passing through Ashford, but would be happy to stay there longer.

Review 126:Bathroom was clean but cold. No information in room about wifi. No comfortable space inside or outside room to sit and read.

Review 127:Central location. Lots of places handy for eating. Good value for money. Good TV and kettle.

Review 128:bit hard to find at first but worth the effort, and I would use again and recommmend to others Could do with better map

Review 129:Helpfulness of the staff (Paul) The room for a single person was lovely Closeness to town.

Review 130:hospitally and adjustment to customer needs was the must great. Hotel is stationed in the center and it is close to everything. Great rooms with a tradition touch. Everything is simply great there.

The Fine Print

Please note that full English breakfasts are served in a restaurant nearby, and continental breakfasts only are available in the hotel building.
