Reviews for Rose in Vale Country House Hotel

Review 1:Really comfortable and immaculately clean country hotel with friendly staff and good restaurant. The hotel is located in a pretty Cornish village which has a proper character pub.

Review 2:The noise from the "black tie function " that was on in the main dining area of the hotel, due to a fire exit door being wedged opened during it.Althou the cooked breakfast was good, it could of done with more choice on the pastry side & maybe dried fruit & nuts for the cereals. Not enough staff for service at the bar etc.

Review 3:The room was small but clean & comfortable. The grounds were beautiful & peaceful.

Review 4:Staff couldn't do anymore for you helpful but not in your face , food was stunning breakfast was brilliant lots of choice hotel was very clean and relaxing and homely.

Review 5:Our suite was above the kitchen and voices were coming through from below. Bar area was tired and in need of some refurbishment.

Review 6:Location was good in quite countryside

Review 7:Customer focused - nothing was too much. Enjoyed the pool & grounds delightful with original seating area. Beautifully maintained in an attractive setting.

Review 8:Cornwall, in addition to having some of the most challenging, tiny roads to navigate, is apparently known in the UK for its spotty internet, phone, and wi-fi capabilities, so it might be unfair to single out this particular hotel, but they will need to inspire local companies to move forward, if they hope to continue to charge rates that imply a level of service that would normally include this modern requirement at a better speed and certainty. They need also to upgrade the furnishings in their dining area to match the good efforts being made by their kitchen. And here the otherwise good staff training needs more work as the wait staff, though numerous, did not match the quality of reception folks. None of these minor complaints will deter me from recommending this hotel to my friends.

Review 9:The location was near enough to where you wanted to visit, but far enough away to feel comfortably away from the summer crowds; the building was quirky enough to emphasis the coziness and the very old-school country house weekend that the owners seemed to aim at creating. The reception desk was outstanding, on a par with concierge services at much larger and more famous locations. Good pub just a short walk away -- but be sure and reserve for dinner at the pub, because it gets all of the local business, apparently.

Review 10:We didn't have a bad experience, we were just sorry that breakfast and dinner were expensive and the menu was a bit rarified for us.

Review 11:Very comfortable, close to some of our favourite places. If we were there for longer we would have made use of the swimming pool and hot tub which looked great. Beautiful grounds. Enjoyed the original art work on the walls. We would be very happy to go again if we got another good deal.

Review 12:Bedroom and bathroom over hot and impossible to cool. Toilet would not flush solids.

Review 13:Location. Attractive building and grounds. Reception staff helpful and friendly.

Review 14:Fire alarm procedures require co-ordination . No muster or information on alarm status passed to guests. Pool not open until check out time.

Review 15:Quiet elegance and grounds complimented by excellent food and staff.

Review 16:Breakfast - I had cereal and only wanted toast and marmalade. my toast came on a plate (the other two tables - one served before/one after had toast racks); no marmalade - had to ask twice more (and almost finished my toast) and was told the germans had eaten it all - but the lack of marmalade was explained when I left; no glasses for orange juice had to ask for one; coffee very weak, but asked for a strong one second morning which was fine; no yoghurt/croissants on first morning; asked for yoghurt on second morning and two pots brought to our table (following this a large silver bowl was put on table, presumably with yoghurts in). Presentation of breakfast was poor and also choice for this type of hotel; had a cooked breakfast on second day which was very good. Plenty of staff as ony three tables occupied so things should have been replenished. When we arrived to our room our first thoughts were it would be lovely to visit for a winter break and hopefully we will, but breakfast was disappointing.

Review 17:Lovely hotel, reception staff excellent.

Review 18:We stayed on the ground floor, ceiling is high but a bit thin so wecould hear people stomping above us and their bathroom appliances!Onground floor Try and avoid the room at the end of corridor whichconnects the two buildings together as you will hear people passingthrough and the door open and close. I am nitpicking as I am a lightsleeper, but I would still go back!

Review 19:Location was so secluded and hidden, you appreciated the short butwinding drive going 'down' into the valley! It is not hard tofind, Google Maps found it easily and takes you through the tough bits, but to be fair it all felt like you just followed one winding road tothe hotel once you left the main A-road. Loved the 15 minutes drive timemax through lovely country lanes for the beach of Perrinporth, and youare not too far away from a standlone Starbucks on the surrounding A-road should you miss the city charms! You can even taken a stroll into apicturesque adjoining forest near the hotel, or their own lovely gardenswith palm trees! You will not forget this unique place.

Review 20:Breakfast room/Dining room might do for breakfast, total disaster for evening meal. No ambience/atmosphere what so ever! It wasn't inviting enough in the pool area, we had to get some tissues to dry the chairs the two cushions that were by the pool were very damp! Plus the pool seemed so much bigger in the web page.

Review 21:Staff were very friendly and very polite!

Review 22:7 of us in a variety of rooms ranging from budget to superior in lovely Georgian house. All beautifully clean and we'll presented. Helpful staff who made sandwich lunch at very short notice before we left to attend a nearby wedding. Highly recommend and would have loved to stay longer.

Review 23:The staff's attitude was shocking, very unhelpful and at times quite rude. Breakfast was poor, lack of choice. Service was slow most of the time for drinks etc.

Review 24:The rooms were a good size with modern bathrooms.

Review 25:Nothing of any note.

Review 26:Location is fabulous, everything within 30-40 mins drive. Fabulous grounds and local walks. Very peaceful. Helpful staff, can't fault it really!!

Review 27:Nothing. Perhaps one waiter should desist from bowing, we are not Japanese.

Review 28:Stayed 3 nights -:upgraded to a suite which had spacious lounge & garden view, huge bathroom with double spa. Staff were unbelievably helpful & pleasant. Food in dining room excellent with menu v changing daily.

Review 29:Water taste from the bathroom tap in my room which I reported. Tea and coffee not very pleasant. Mix up with breakfast, staff very apologetic

Review 30:Location, comfort of room, easy side door access

Review 31:The food was nowhere need the standard you'd expect for the prices asked. The breakfast arrived very late in complete 'no toast offered' and we were charged a 5 pound supplement for having it in our room! We were in a hurry.

Review 32:It's a lovely building set amongst very nice gardens and the staff were very pleasant.

Review 33:We both loved everything about our stay. Friendly staff, absolutely beautiful location and the rooms so nice. We had dinner bond evening and it was stunning. Can't fault our stay in any way at all.

Review 34:Only that the waiter at breakfast seemed a little inexperienced. He was very polite, however dropped drinks over the floor twice and took plates away while my partner was still eating.

Review 35:Perfect location just outside of St Agnes. A warm welcome at reception, the perfect introduction to the hotel. Accommodated our early check in and organised taxi's for us to attend a wedding.

Review 36:Being rudely woken by running up the stairs and banging on someone's door in the morning. Cleaners blocking corridors with equipment both sides when If all kept to one side would still be passable. Cooked breakfast 1 rasher of bacon, 1 sausage, 1 very badly cooked egg etc not enough to feed a regular sized person. Pool is outside pool as with hot tub and unusable. Lovely location but really not worth £165 a night.

Review 37:The room was of a good size and comfortable, staff accepting of our late arrival.

Review 38:nothing really, only thing is maybe the price of the restaurant. The food was ok, but not worth the price (7 pound for a starter and about 20 of more for a main course). The pub nearby is told to be very good, so you should better eat there I think.

Review 39:the bed was absolutely comfortable, very nice area, staff was friendly, lovely room.

Review 40:Room was a little cold.

Review 41:We arrived early in the morning as we'd driven down from London for a funeral at 11am. The lady at reception got our room cleaned and sorted early for us so we could get in there before the funeral - really meant a lot. And the bed was a dream after a night of little aleep driving down the night before!

Review 42:The staff couldn't do enough for us, the room was fantastic, and the bed was the most comfortable we've ever slept in. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent.

Review 43:a little difficult to find initially, especially when dark. [being pickie !] - position of toilet roll holder in bathroom, had to be a contortionist to access it ! beautifully fitted bathroom though: Would have liked to be able to open the window, the sash opening appeared to be painted over.

Review 44:Friendliness of staff: well presented hotel: excellent food: would be lovely in Summer months: very lovely fitted out public rooms: close to all pretty seaside locations.

Review 45:The only thing we had difficulty with was finding Mithian and missed our turn a few times.

Review 46:We found your hotel a lovely quiet place, standing in its beautiful garden. Away from noise of traffic & street lighting. All our requests were met without any fuss and we felt very well looked after. Very grateful thanks.

Review 47:Everything was fine

Review 48:Very peaceful the receptionist was so helpful, we only stayed one night , so can not comment very much , but the time we had was good.

Review 49:Service in restaurant very slow on the one night we dined there. Food did not offer value for money.

Review 50:Helpful and friendly staff. Very comfortable bed Beautiful location, very peaceful. Good standard of decor throughout hotel.

Review 51:to get to the dining room you have to go between the dining room and the kitchen with the smells of the kitchen filling the corridor.

Review 52:The room was adequate with plenty of hanging space. Shower good.Good view of the garden. Very close to the coast and St Agnes. The food was fine, although I would have had Frites with the mussels. ( Just a personal favourite !! ) God bottle of wine reasonably priced. The gardens were lovely.

Review 53:A very tiny matter - our bathroom (with the budget double room) needed upgrading and the mixer on the over bath shower was tiresome to operate. Also I would have liked softer pillows

Review 54:Lovely setting, very friendly staff, excellent food and wine. Very comfortable bed.

Review 55:Dreadful automatic piano played till very late in the diningroom, which kept us awake! Walls in bedrooms like paper- could hear everyword spoken next door also TV Bath fan etc. Bathroom towel rail needed to be on !

Review 56:Beds, Bathroom, Breakfast

Review 57:food in the restaurant was a bit average.

Review 58:This hotel was in a lovely setting. staff were very helpful and friendly. We got upgraded to the rose suite which was pure luxury. Lovely place to stay.

Review 59:If you like tranquillity this is the place for you. We visited in July for a short break, beautiful location & hotel, staff could not be more helpful. We enjoyed breakfast in our room each morning which was a lovely touch. Thoroughly relaxing few days.

Review 60:We needed to leave quite early due to a family christening. Unfortunately we had to have cold showers due to the fact that the water doesn't 'go on' until 7 am. I am used to staying in hotels and I am used to having hot water available 24/7 so I was quite surprised to be told that I should have made a special request for hot water !

Review 61:The beds were very comfortable and the meal was beautiful. The staff were all very friendly and made my son and I feel very welcome.

Review 62:The fan/generator outside the room (No 4) on and off all night. Damp bathroom and dark bedroom. Wi-fi only worked in public rooms.

Review 63:Beautiful gardens, friendly and attentive staff, good meals (breakfast and dinner). Quiet location with a great pub within walking distance.

Review 64:Tea pot was not emptied / cleaned from the previous guests. it was Half full of cold tea and a tea bag when we went to make a pot of tea in the morning before breakfast ! Quite disappointed, would not expect this from a hotel of this standard..

Review 65:Pretty much everything.

Review 66:Unreliable WiFi connection which made it difficult to catch up on work, but overall an excellent hotel

Review 67:Very good breakfast, clean rooms and helpful staff. Great location in the village of Mithian.

Review 68:Clean, comfortable hotel. Lovely breakfast included in price. All the staff were helpful and happy. We would definitely recommend to others. A first class hotel.

Review 69:The ensuite room was beautifully prepared with towelling robes, lotions, crisp white bedding and comfy chairs. The dining experience was top notch with excellent waiter service. The pool was sunnily sited admits a pleasantly green garden and waiter service was included. The tastefully decorated sitting area and bar complete with stacks of Country Life provided an oasis of calm and relaxation. The receptionists were especially helpful and even the cleaners were polite and welcoming.

Review 70:Lacks atmosphere, every time we went to get a drink at the bar in the evening there was no staff, we always had to go and find someone. Food below expected quality for a hotel of this standard.

Review 71:Lovely hotel, quite location, good location for touring Cornwell, very good room and facilities.

Review 72:The standard of accomodation in the rather tacky added on block at the back is poor and certainly not worth £120-150 / night. Rooms are pokey, walls are paper thin, bathroom accessories (even toilet paper) very stingey. Ive seen better in most b&bs. Breakfast buffet also bland and very limited. This is not 4* accomodation and I was very disappointed.

Review 73:The bar area is quite comfortable and the evening meal was excellent.

Review 74:Nothing

Review 75:The Rose in Vale was excellent, my husband particularly liked the breakfast. We were also able to have our dog with us which was an added bonus

Review 76:Beautiful location, garden and original house. I did feel it was a bit of a rabbit warren inside as it has been extended so much. We had a budget stay and our room was very spacious and comfortable( no view though) and only problem was could not get light over basin to work. Had a very good creamtea in garden. Breakfast fine.

Review 77:Stuffy attitude. Pretentious. Smallest room in over a month of travel and floor more comfortable than bed. Asked for dinner reservation and given 2 alternatives 30 minutes apart. Only 2 other tables occupied. no cell phone coverage and very slow internet.
