Reviews for Sutherlands Guest House
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:Real luxury! Spacious and beautiful bedroom and dressroom. Exquisite 3 course dinner with pre-drinking at gracious lounge. A landscape in the morning.
Review 3:No negatives at all!
Review 4:Excellent property. The hosts have taken tremendous care in building and decorating the guesthouse. Very spacious. The common room next to the room is a great added bonus The views from the room we stayed was excellent. We stayed in the largest room Spey Excellent breakfast served with great style!
Review 5:Absolutely nothing!
Review 6:From checking in at the Sutherland we were made feel so at home & nothing was a bother, our room was stunning & we couldn't fault it in any way. Breakfast was lovely with good choice & again nothing was a hassle. Ruby & Raymond were very approachable & were very welcoming, would definitely return.
Review 7:Why did we only stay for one night?? Silly us . We will know better next time
Review 8:This is the best B and B we have visited to date. It put several hotels we have experienced to shame. Our room was spacious, superbly furnished, and the bed was huge and very comfortable. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel very much at home.
Review 9:We have nothing to dislike
Review 10:This guest house is superb and well worth the (small)extra cost. The welcome was very warm and sincere and we enjoyed chats with both the host and hostess and the other guests. We stayed for 3 days and enjoyed complete comfort in a large room, with a small annexe for reading tea-making etc. the view to the Cairngorms and the ruins of Ruthven barracks was a delight. Best of all (in a perfect score for everything else) were the gourmet breakfasts and the splendid dinner. We look forward to a return trip (but suspect that the secret is out and Ruby and Raymond will be over-subscribed for a long time).
Review 11:The B&B was amazing. All rooms are decorated with style to the highest standard. We booked one double room and one apartment and both of them were great. The morning breakfast was superb.
Review 12:Nothing!
Review 13:Fantastic, and I mean really fantastic hospitality. Everything you ask is done with a genuinely friendly smile. Excellent breakfast. I surely would like to return to try their weekend dinners! They offer good suggestions about what to do in the region, and where to eat... and where not to eat. ;-)
Review 14:This is the second time we have stayed at Sutherlands and it was just as good as the first time. We had dinner on the Saturday night which was so delicious. Ruby and Raymond are also the most attentive and fabulous hosts.
Review 15:To complain about such a great place would be ridiculous. I have nothing bad to say. We loved it!
Review 16:The food was excellent, our room was very comfy, stylish and clean. We felt very welcome and would recommend to anyone in a heart beat. Best B&B we have stayed in by far.
Review 17:There seems to be an option to have dinner too. A nice meal, prepared by the host. That only becomes clear when you visit their own website. You have to make reservations prior to your arrival. Since we didn't know that we were sent to a (rather disappointing) bistro in the village. And also on our second night other guests were eating in. We felt a bit 'left out', having a picnic in our room. The dinner option was not mentioned once to us. Not prior to arrival and not upon checking in. But no hard feelings there.
Review 18:A very welcoming home with warm hosts. Splendid breakfast. An eye for details. Lovely decorated.
Review 19:A couple of creaky floorboards above but not the fault of the owners!
Review 20:Expect the luxury inside to match the beauty and tranquility of outside. Bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious. Quality furniture and furnishings. Hosts very welcoming and friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 21:We opted to have our evening meal at the guest house. The quality of the cooking was outstanding. The breakfast was also first class. The studio bedroom is only recently opened and was tastefully and comfortably furnished.
Review 22:Breakfasts and dinners were among the best we have ever had on holiday. Very nice room with good views. Friendly and helpful hosts. Pleasant location.
Review 23:Host was perfect, interested but not intrusive, breakfasts great with loads of choice, house large and beautiful, everything was new, so much space in the bedroon which was really a suit. There was nothing NOT to like.
Review 24:Accessibility, transport, no other dining options in Kingussie(everything shuts down at 8/8.30pm).
Review 25:Wonderful gourmet breakfast, Very comfortable in the loft. Ruby and Raymond are amazing and welcoming hosts.
Review 26:Our suite was exceptional: clean, quiet, with a really kingsize bed and two sofas overlooking the garden, Kingussie and the Cairngorms in the distance. The house had two comfortable lounges - very nice indeed. The owner was very helpful and the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were the best I had during our trip in Scotland.
Review 27:What a fabulous place with wonderful hosts. Food was excellent. Room was beautiful and so comfortable. Area ideal for travelling around the Highlands. Would recommend to anyone. It was a real pleasure to stay here.
Review 28:We stayed in the Spey a room, room and ensuite perfect with all facilities needed plus more - Double bath, steam room. Terrific views. Breakfast was delicious both mornings.
Review 29:The loveliest hospitality I've had in a long long time. Ruby and Raymond were both amazing and went out of their way to make sure that we had a fantastic time. The food was to die for, I would drive up from Edinburgh just for a plate out of Raymond's kitchen. One of the best hotel stays I've had in Scotland.
Review 30:Nothing, 12 out of 10
Review 31:Everything about Sutherland Guest House was exceptional, from the first welcome to the fantastic breakfast to the comfort of the very spacious Trium room and the hospitality of our hosts.
Review 32:If you are on the lower ground floor it is possible to hear movement in the rooms above, this didn't bother us unduly but may annoy some
Review 33:Lovely standard of decor and food. It's spotlessly clean and has all the little touches of a 5 star hotel- gown slippers etc
Review 34:Great spacious rooms with decorations in the best of taste. Home made delicious breakfast. Helpful and friendly hosts make the stay highly recommended if you're in the area.
Review 35:Wish we had booked for dinner the menu looked great.
Review 36:The accommodation is true to the photos and is of an exceptional standard for a Guest house, absolutely delightful. Tasteful sumptuous furnishings throughout. Our hosts Ruby and Raymond wee a pleasure to meet and really helpful and welcoming.
Review 37:there is nothing not to like about Sutherlands
Review 38:Exceedingly high standard of service and comfort at this stylish ,contemporary home Particularly liked the little extras such as cafetiere / ground coffee along with fresh milk in the room, Breakfast included room temperature fresh fruit plate - not straight from the fridge & home made smoothies. Dinner is outstanding and well worth the price
Review 39:My husband and I stayed for two wonderful nights at Sutherlands. The room (Trium suite) was enormous and wonderfully comfortable with a massive bed and lovely sitting area. The bathroom is well equipped with a fantastic shower. The small details of fresh milk (not UHT!), ground coffee with a cafetiere and sweets were superb. The decor and cleanliness of the room were outstanding. The breakfast was plentiful and perfectly cooked. We enjoyed the smoothie of the day and the cooked breakfast which was made with quality ingredients. Finally, Ruby and Raymond were lovely hosts. Always available to help and to have a chat. I cannot fault Sutherlands and simply can't wait to go back.
Review 40:Only a small downside and that is you could hear those in the dinning room and kitchen above
Review 41:Lovely welcome and we were looked after our bedroom was amazing and loads of added extra e.g. lounge area and fireplace great breakfast each morning will definitely return
Review 42:Only minor difficulty was arriving in the dark and trying to read name at the entrance gate but hosts addressing this as guest house only opened in April 2014!
Review 43:Welcome surprise to find such a incredibly spacious and comfortable place to stay - everything detail provided in this beautiful home. Delicious breakfasts and friendly hosts have furnished each room with great style. Look forward to our return stay!
Review 44:What an amazing experience staying at the guesthouse. The owners make you feel as if you are staying with family. The bed is perfectly comfortable and the rooms make you feel you are floating in a cloud. We were in Scotland for a month and this was by far the best place we stayed. I highly recommend the guesthouse; we can't wait to return.
Review 45:Great location, high quality of accomodation: room space, atmosphere, diligence of service, comfort and cleanliness...lastly, our hosts couldn't do enough!
Review 46:The dinner was amazing - take it if you can. Amazing views from restaurant and rooms. Great whiskey advice and local knowledge of restaurants. Great lounges and an amazing bathroom in the king suite. We cannot wait to come back!!
Review 47:Only staying 2 nights, we will be back!!
Review 48:What's not to like? The house was utterly stunning, the decor was to such a high standard and exactly what we like. The room (Spey) was outstanding and the largest bathroom I think I have ever seen! Perfect location, just a short walk from Kingussie and a short drive up to Aviemore. The hospitality was 10/10,we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome in someone's home! We were given recommendations on restaurants and generally enjoyed a little chinwag here and there! Breakfast was amazing too, great choice, really good quality and freshly made on order. There are just too many superlatives ,I don't know where to stop!
Review 49:Rooms would be called suites in most hotels. The food twas excellent. The house was full of interesting objects. The Southerlands are delightful people.
Review 50:Beautiful house. Nice rooms. Very good breakfast and extremely friendly and helpful owners. We did not try the dinner but I am sure that it also meets the hug standard
Review 51:Leaving.
Review 52:Without doubt the most friendly and high quality place my wife and I stayed at on our recent tour of Scotland. We stayed at six different Hotels on our tour, and this was by far the best. Ruby and Raymond were exceptional hosts and we congratulate them on the very high standard they have achieved at Sutherlands.

Review 60:The room was absolutely wonderful. So comfortable, lovely personal touches, and fantastic hosts in Ruby and Raymond. I would recommend staying here over any hotel. We would definitely return again if ever back in the area.
Review 61:From the moment you enter this stunning property you know what toexpect. Warm welcome, spacious suite, ultra clean and tweed furnishings- what's not to like? Our room had an amazing view of RuthvenBarracks and every detail was 6*! This boutique hotel wouldn't havebeen out of place in Monte Carlo! The food was utterly sublime - again6*. Ruby and Raymond are perfect hosts who seemed to have me in mindwith fresh smoothies on the breakfast menu an amazing array of whiskiesamd no accommodation for children, which can sometimes ruin a peacefulbreak! Thank you for a dream stay!
Review 62:Nothing, we couldn't fault it.
Review 63:We decided to break up our homeward journey with a stop at SutherlandsGuest House. After a warm welcome we were shown to our room withit's six foot bed and glorious view and we freshened up for dinner. Now trust me on this, have dinner! Breakfast the following morning wasexcellent with a wide range of fare to suit most people. We were shownthe rest of the accommodation before leaving and we are already planningour next trip to Scotland with a longer stop at Sutherlands Guest Housedefinitely on the cards. The attention to detail was on a par with aFour Seasons Hotel.
Review 64:Like explained to the owners, the bedroom suffers of the above noise: guest walking and snoring in the above bedroom. The windows are as well tricky, we could open them but not shut them; at night it becomes a problem. We were told that these problems would be reviewed.
Review 65:Nice and friendly owners. Extremely wide and large en-suite bedroom. Extra large kingsize bed. Very long bathroom with shower and bath on each end. Lots of moving space. Breakfast really fresh and tasty. Very nice guest house to stay at.
Review 66:After thinking very hard; it did rain for an hour or two !!
Review 67:Simply outstanding facilities and delightful hosts. Husband a qualified chef and the meals showed this expertise. Seriously wish more accom available of this standard and the relative value was amazing.
Review 68:Leaving!!
Review 69:This was a last minute find after a previous plan fell through and it was an excellent buy. The guest house itself is beautifully decorated (and accessoriised) everything is done to a very high standard. We ate at the guest house for one night of our stay and it was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Breakfast is mega too - whatever you choose it is very attractively presented and cooked to perfection. The owners themselves are very frendly and helpful too. Would go back in a minute
Review 70:We had a lovely stay at Sutherlands Guest House. Our room was very clean and comfortable and our en-suite was amazing! We were made to feel extremely welcome by Ruby and Raymond and are already booked to return.
Review 71:Host was a little pushy in the morning... Cleaned room at 945 before I showered. Said checkout was 1030. Little sour point there.
Review 72:Everything, esp the food. Wonderful.
Review 73:Large room and bathroom and use of adjacent lounge opening on to the terrace in garden. All rooms beautifully and tastefully decorated. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast. All very highly recommended.
Review 74:Having to leave after 3 wonderful nights.
Review 75:The hosts Raymond and Ruby have an excellent property, service is superb and the facilities are up to 5 star hotel standard.
Review 76:The views from Sutherlands over the Cairngorms are stunning and you can appreciate them from one of the two lounges, the patio, the breakfast room or even your own room. There is easy access to the village (dinner at the Silverfjorde highly recommended). The attention to detail at Sutherlands is second to none and Ruby and Raymond are very welcoming hosts who knock up a smashing breakfast!!!
Review 77:We had to go home
Review 78:We have travelled all over the world and stayed in many luxurious hotels but nothing compares to this gem of a place. The hosts Ruby & Raymond are fabulous the food and comfort out of this world. Can,t wait to our next stay.
Review 79:i did not like we had to leave after 3 days... Kingussie is ideal for any daytrip in the Highlands...
Review 80:we booked the suite with a view... man what a surprise. not only we got the view... in addition we got a super large room ( looked like a 6x 6 m) very tastfully decorated , a in room sitting area ( led tv), a separate lounge with a fridge, coffee machine and a big closet..also we got a superdeluxe bathroom with a working toweldryer ( in the summer). the bed was maxi size with plenty of pillows ( forget the Westin) and a super comfy mattress and duvet ( I had to shout to my wife tofind her in this enormous bed). Also included is access to a sun deck, a tv lounge with designed furniture, a whisky bar room with a view and again lovely decorated. In the morning we got a 'a la carte' breakfast and we even enjoyed a 'star quality' dinner , all cooked by the host and former Chef 'Ray'. Ruby does the services, decoration, advising, smiling etc... A perfect team. Let them also advice you on restaurants in the region. You wont be disapointed ! In short: we will come back and recommend this B&B. This B&B is better than any 4 or 5 star hotel i've been to ( I'm not lying at all) !!
