Reviews for The Dog & Doublet Inn
Review 1:General cleanliness was fairly poor with obvious dust traps ignored for months or years. Restaurant was lively but the standard of food was average at best. Slapping a portobello mushroom in a burger bun without bothering to drain any water out isn't a good indicator.
Review 2:First impressions were good, it's a cosy-looking place.
Review 3:You could hear the cellar coolers even though it did not bother us as such.
Review 4:The food was excellent both the evening meal and the full breakfast. They also had a ground floor bedroom catering for the disabled.
Review 5:Our only bad experience was that we were in a disabled room across the court yard and it was raining and in the morning the door was locked and we could not get in for breakfast.
Review 6:I was travelling with my elderly mother and the staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us.
Review 7:We stayed in room 8, which unfortunately was quite noisy, there was a general loud hum from outside and constant road noise as the windows are very old and metal. Also the pillows are very firm which personally I am not used to. We were advised that breakfast was served until 11am although when we sat down at 10.35, all the cereals, orange juice etc... had been cleared away in order that they could set up for lunch.
Review 8:The staff were really helpful and friendly and were able to reserve a table for us for dinner although they were really busy. The food was very good and reasonably priced as was the drinks.
Review 9:Stayed over for my wife's 30th, the rooms were clean and well maintained with all the facilities you would expect. Food in the restaurant is fantastic, all the staff were very helpful and pleasant, could g do enough to ensure our stay was perfect.
Review 10:We've stayed here twice now and have loved both times staying here. The time we have just stayed was even better because it was our anniversary and the staff must of picked up on it and surprised us with a lovely anniversary dessert plate which was really nice of them. OH and the food was great! We both had a slow cooked beef dish for our main meal and it was up there with one of the best meals I've had!
Review 11:Room was too small for comfort. Bed was too hard. Carpet could have been vacumed. No room for luggage. Toilet kept filling.
Review 12:Staff were lovely and the breakfast 10/10
Review 13:Fabulous food - both in the evening and for breakfast. Fantastic atmosphere in the pub in the evening. Outstanding quality of service from the staff - faultless.
Review 14:Room was too small, not the one shown on Booking.com. No heating on when we arrived, so cold
Review 15:Room 3 too small, meal was nice on the evening, service a bit slow
Review 16:Very busy with no quieter areas. Room was quite small even for a single. No lift No hair dryer in the room
Review 17:excellent food and very helpful staff. Very nice ambiance and decor. Great location for Staffordshire Area and only about 20 miles from Birmingham
Review 18:When we went down for Bfast no one can to greet us or explain whether we help ourselves or order at the bar. Left waiting a good ten minutes before we went up to the bar to ask.
Review 19:The room and bar breakfast area
Review 20:The noise from the bar and restaurant. The rooms need a better buffer from the public areas. The meals were to be honest poor when we ate there. But I think this may have been down to the chef on the night. My wife's starter was not what was ordered, and my main course was burnt and the veg not cooked. All in all a bad experience.
Review 21:The staff made our stay, apart from the chef who appeared to be having an off day.
Review 22:Lovely old pub/ restaurant, comfortable with friendly helpful staff. We arrived late but the chef rustled us up some chips which were very good. Good shower with lovely soft fluffy towels. Fantastic breakfast!
Review 23:music from bar could be heard over tv..Also no mention on your site regarding road noise . Heavy goods vehicles from early morning these issues should be in your description as some people like peace and quite . your description states village but not that your situated on a very noisy junction..We feel somewhat mislead
Review 24:Very pretty pud lovely breakfast the lady on breakfast duty was very pleasant.
Review 25:Food served off cold plates . Breakfast coffee vile, scrambled eggs overcooked. Stopped ordering Eggs Benedict because the food was arriving cold and the poached eggs either water or hard.Breakfasts have been going down hill - must be a change in the chef. Evening meals fish portions so small...... Bedrooms noisy and lighting very poor,
Review 26:Quick check in and out
Review 27:It was very difficult to sleep because of the noise. It was like a generator or an old central heating system The level of noise and vibration was completely unsatisfactory..Comments refer to Bedroom 10 - Bedroom 2 was fine
Review 28:Happy and helpful staff
Review 29:Stayed in room 11 which unfortunately was above the kitchen fans and then on evening the hot water pump made noise all night, really loud in the end my partner had to get up at 2.00 am and speak to night porter. Also bed was comfy really wide but really short! I'm 5ft 7" and my feet hung over end quite a lot!!
Review 30:Staff were lovely and efficient, breakfast was fab.
Review 31:The building is bordered on three sides by the busy Stafford Road, even busier A51 and the express train line - certainly room no. 3 was very noisy!
Review 32:Excellent staff: well-trained, welcoming, attentive, great service. Good evening meals.
Review 33:Nothing.
Review 34:The location is lovely at the centre of the village of Sandon. The quintessential English Inn. Ideal for an overnight stop or a short break. The staff were superb and the food to die for.
Review 35:Room was pretty small and could do with a bit of a make over. Bed very tired and definitely needs replacing. For £102 it's a tad overpriced, however the downstairs facilities are faultless. The wifi is very poor in the rooms and should be advertised as limited wifi.
Review 36:The staff were very welcoming and extremely professional. The restaurant is very nice and a perfect place to chill, food was very nice.
Review 37:I meant to tell someone in the morning but as I left a 04:00hrs to race Ironman Staffs, I forgot, there's a leak running down the bedroom door from the ceiling in room 7.
Review 38:Staff really helpful and accommodating
Review 39:Room was on a corner one side was a very busy road. Little ventilation in the room as only one window would open. Food portions very VERY large.. not sure this is a like or a dislike one meal would have satisfied both of us
Review 40:Large clean room, bikes securely locked up overnight. Very helpful staff. Food portions very VERY large.. not sure this is a like or a dislike one meal would have satisfied both of us
Review 41:Why try and charge a resident and someone who had spent well in the restaurant for a handful of peanuts at the bar with their drink? It just semed penny pinching and spoiled otherwise overall pleasant experience. I refused!
Review 42:A nice bar area to relax before dinner. Very comfortable well appointed bedroom. Dining room comfortable and welcoming.
Review 43:Dreadful service in the resturaunt. I was seated in a corner and all the staff just walked by without viewing I require to order. The car park was full on arrival, in the morning I found only a few cars parked. No consideration given by the hotel to reserve parking for residents. The room was incredibly small for a double room barely room to walk around the bed. Easy to stub your toe on the bed posts. Noise carried up from the bar & resturaunt. The bed was quite hard and I had difficulty in sleeping.
Review 44:It was close to where the company I was visiting. This is a character coaching house.
Review 45:no sky sports :(
Review 46:I liked the selection of ales and drinks. The warm welcome from staff. The friendly manner. Nice quaint tidy rooms. Simple and welcoming.
Review 47:Nothing
Review 48:Great food - choice and quality outstanding Great atmosphere about the place and beautifully renovated rooms. Staff are very friendly and service is top notch! Highly recommended! Would even come back and just spend a weekend relaxing. Will definitely return.
Review 49:Staff very friendly. Food excellent but book early if want to eat in restaurant in the evening. Breakfast very good. Cereal, pastries, full English, juice and coffee.
Review 50:the atmosphere was lovely and relaxing and the food was excellent. rooms were beautiful, everything you need and more at hand. deffinitley eturning soon!
Review 51:Hardly anything at all. The bed had maybe seen better days, but it didn't stop us getting a decent nights sleep.
Review 52:Fabulous selection of food both for dinner & breakfast. Staff friendly, efficient & hard working & throughout a very busy evening, they managed to keep smiling. Drinks at fair prices. Bags of parking space. Ideally situated for the Staffs Showground. Puts a lot of the bigger hotels to shame. Try it!
Review 53:Bed only just ok. Bathroom had no heating and was v cold. No hot water early evening. Fan heater in wardrobe but dangerous to use in a bathroom. Not sure I would stay again.
Review 54:Staff attitude and breakfast both good.
Review 55:Background music was a bit too intrusive at times and/or at certain places within the layout. Maybe as bar/dining area occupancy reduced the music stayed at previous level? Some noise at late/early hrs when "sleeping" it seemed furniture was being moved around downstairs - wood furniture on wood or stone flooring, echoed into sleeping area.
Review 56:Nice style of property. Food choice and quality Good range at bar Helpful welcoming staff. Vibrant atmosphere.
Review 57:Bedrooms not quite up to the standard of the public areas. Bit cold due to single glazing.
Review 58:Staff, ambience in bar and dining areas, food quality. Very welcoming and very popular with locals which is a good sign.
Review 59:Efficient friendly staff. Immaculate Comfortable Room Excellent dinner and breakfast. Cosy feel to restaurant. Plenty of parking. Good Wi Fi
Review 60:The first room we were given was tiny. They immediately agreed to moving us to a different room. Here the Internet didn't work at all (I specifically needed it); they moved us to the four poster room. So, I can't fault the staff. However, I don't think they should have to deal with issues relating from poor descriptions written by management. Why say wifi everywhere? Why not advertise room 8 as a "small double"? The bathroom had no heating whatsoever, which wasn't pleasant in December. There wasn't even a shower tidy/soap dish in the shower cubicle - it felt very basic. In that area, I really expected more for my money. There was a party that night and the noise around midnight was unbelievable. In these circumstances, I do think the hotel management need to either consider the comfort of all guests, or not accept bookings for guests not attending the function. So, despite superb staff and great food, a very disappointing stay indeed.
Review 61:The staff were fantastic. The food was good, the atmosphere at dinner was great.
Review 62:Room very cold on arrival and took a long time to warm up. Standard of decoration shabby and in need of a good make-over.
Review 63:Staff very helpful and friendly
Review 64:The cleaner needs to check the plug hole in the sink as there was lots of hair in the hole that restricted the water flow. It would also look good if the ketchup pots were wiped before the customers get them as there was ketchup on side if dish. Apart from that everything else was fanatic.
Review 65:Because I walk with arm crutches getting to our room was a little difficult however the staff helped as best they could i suppose because of the age of the building nothing more can be done to combat the stairs
Review 66:Help received from staff I have a disability ambiance excellent food good value
Review 67:mattress & pillows too firm for our taste noise from kitchen extractor fan excessive in our room
Review 68:lovely building with beautiful views excellent staff food & service excellent
Review 69:The staff at the D + D always make a stay a real pleasure; nothing is too much trouble and the cuisine just gets better and better. One of my all time favourite hostelries.
Review 70:A bit noisy at night with road noise. Secondary glazing would make this hotel perfect!
Review 71:Lovely rooms with everything you could need for a short break. Food in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast superb! Great staff and service.
Review 72:Wifi was weak.
Review 73:Situated among fields but within a few miles of Stafford, this is a very pleasing pub. Nice courtyard with plenty of parking. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The bedrooms were clean, comfortable and well equipped - iron and hairdryer. Dinner menu was extensive and very good. Equally, breakfast was a joy - the smoked salmon and scrambled egg was excellent - and Holly ensured our coffee cups were kept full. .
Review 74:No double glazing on the windows so the passing traffic was an issue at night. Our room was above the swing door entrance to the kitchen and this was a constant annoyance. Bedside clock was 3 hours fast and it was impossible to change it.
Review 75:Very friendly staff. Good dinner & breakfast. A pleasant stay other than a bit noisy!
Review 76:Room was a little noisy, I think it maybe backed onto the hotel restaurant toilets.
Review 77:Restaurant and food were excellent. Staff were friendly. Decor lovely. Nice atmosphere.
Review 78:See above
Review 79:Staff were lovely. Service very good. Food was very good. Especially breakfast. Rooms are tired and need redecorating. Dont have room 9 next to the tumble dryer room.
Review 80:Arrived late due to delays on motorway. Staff went out their way to check us in quickly and made us feel welcome. Restaurant was closed on arrival . Was so impressed that the kitchen staff prepared lovely food despite being so late in the evening . Such a warm welcome and I will certainly return .
Review 81:A little road noise but it wasn't really an issue
