Reviews for Dumbleton Hall Hotel
Review 1:Poor internet, although we were warned.
Review 2:A wonderful stay in a stately house with a magnificent garden to wander through. Bar meals and breakfast were delicious.
Review 3:The downside was as a lone traveller (an Xmas present one night away) full dining room for breakfast and a small table where people had to squeeze past, seated alongside a group of 12.
Review 4:The hotel its self, wonderful entrance and library - position and the views from the bedroom window. Couldn't really fault. Will return!
Review 5:Couldn't drink water in rooms, no bottled water provided. 3 course dinner for £29.95pp was terrible quality. Starter and desert were poor and had to send main back. Wine was ok. Did not want to eat in hotel, menu was unappealing and with no good choices, however, due to remote location guests are a captive audience with no alternatives. Breakfast was a little better but not by much.
Review 6:Breakfast was average Continental was of a good choice but the cooked breakfast was full of water from the scrabbled egg making every thing soggy, Tea could have had an extra bag in pot too.
Review 7:The character of the hotel was stunning and the grounds very well maintained the staff very helpful and would deffinately stay again. Taxi from Evesham Railway Station were £14 each way
Review 8:our room was at en and light d of corrider ad seemed to hear noises like stuff being moved around or doors banging?
Review 9:attractive building, grounds. clean, comfortable, breakfast good, staff very pleasant .
Review 10:Lack of fresh drinking water in room...tap water out of bounds and no free alternative and water was off all together locally in morning for a couple of hours and no apology
Review 11:Comfy bed n spacious room...staff at dinner very professional n food thoroughly enjoyed
Review 12:bit cold in the room but immediately rectified by a electric heater. great service.
Review 13:Very comfortable bed and nice crisp white linen. Lovely public rooms and friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent great choice of fruit and cereals and freshly cooked hot food.
Review 14:Staff seemed not interested at all in well being. Specifically in the restaurant. We had a 3 course meal and we weren't asked once how our meal was. The room was okay although dated and no one hoovered our room (staying 3 nights!).
Review 15:Nice looking building, great surroundings.
Review 16:The rooms could do with sound proofing, and a fridge.
Review 17:An incredible location that is awe inspiring. Great base for exploring. The rooms are warm, beds comfortable, and the staff are friendly.
Review 18:The room was very tight. The food was nothing special, no advertising of using locally produced produce. The service at dinner was poor. Extras e.g. wine, bar food or coffee were over priced. Local walks were not signposted from the grounds. It would have been useful if the hotel had provided a map showing the walks that start from the hotel. It seemed as if their main emphasis is on weddings. Luckily there were none on during our stay. We found the bed to be too soft and the room too warm at night.
Review 19:The location and the building were beautiful.
Review 20:Nothing. The only comment to make is that The Hall is situated in the country and although close to Dumbleton it is only a small village with very little to see so don't expect to see anything grand there. A beautiful part of England and very enjoyable.
Review 21:The place was amazing. Downton Abbey all over. The staff were very pleasant. The rooms large and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful. We recommend it highly.
Review 22:Dined in restaurant on first night and was met with completely impersonal service from restaurant manager. Tried library bar 2nd evening but bar staff always missing. Overall a young staff who were pleasant(when you could find them) but in need of lots more training.
Review 23:Beautiful surroundings
Review 24:Staff did little to control noisy children using the hotel as a playground For the whole of my dinner stay children ran up and down the corridor, shouting. I think that included in the wedding information there should be a requirement saying that children are welcome but must be under the supervision of an adult. Also wedding guests are fed and watered in the reception area, sometimes making it difficult for other guests to get through.
Review 25:Good food, quiet bedroom and beautiful views. Also the hotel did give me a free dinner because of the noise nuisance.
Review 26:No atmosphere, background music in the bar would help and even a tv. Needs up grading and the thinking of the management. Shame about the plastic drain pipes running on the out side of the building. Over priced. Could be exceptional.
Review 27:Location , breakfast and most impressive the gardens although the sun was shining the hard work of the gardener deserves praise
Review 28:Really long meandering path to room. Staff on phone said restaurant was friendly when we phoned up earlier in the day, however upon arrival is was stately and formal and children were frowned upon inside it.
Review 29:Sheep, new bathroom, view from room, beautiful building, free parking, lovely staff.
Review 30:There were some strange odours around parts of the house which were unpleasant.
Review 31:The staff were lovely. The house was full of history but a bit run down in parts. The grounds were beautiful and it was a pleasure to sit outside to eat and drink.
Review 32:Functions obviously take priority. Don't be surprised to find the place dominated by a wedding party. No other places to eat nearby.
Review 33:A sprawling old manor, far from town, but quite a comfortable stay.
Review 34:Being charged twice for the room and not being refunded for over two days after being told that it would be 24 hours. Then being refunded for a second time but being charged again 8 hours before the refund went into the account.
Review 35:A lovely wedding, food and ambience.
Review 36:Because a wedding was taking place we had to park our car in the adjacent field where the sheep grazed and our evening meal took 30 minutes before our starters arrived. Considering the price the quality of the meal was disappointing.
Review 37:The location and grounds were very good. The building and rooms were as we expected, we were not disappointed.
Review 38:Wifi was slow and no A/C in room so was very humid
Review 39:Absolutely loved staying here for the one night. Comfortable bed and great food. The scenery made it even better.
Review 40:couldn't connect to wi-fi
Review 41:Impressive building in an outstanding location. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Lovely walks in the extensive hotel gardens.
Review 42:The fact that we had to share the facility with a large wedding group was a little off putting, especially since we really could not enjoy the outdoor areas with all the smoking...YUCK!
Review 43:The grounds were beautiful although not very manicured.
Review 44:Not much to complain about other than the head office booked the room in my partner's name and not mine. Shows how little there is to complain about.
Review 45:Everything, nice grounds, in a lovely setting, good variety of food, ideal for getting away from it. No Gym and no pool which keeps it special as a Hotel. If it is a restful stay you want and a base to visit places it is excellent.
Review 46:The drive is in need of repair. People parking in the disabled spaces without blue badges, we needed a space and couldn't get one. No control over the heating.
Review 47:The location. The lads who served us at breakfast and dinner, they were very friendly and polite.
Review 48:Wifi was impossible to connect with in our room. Maybe some music in the dining room would have been nice.
Review 49:Location and beauty of the area is unsurpassed. Room was great and bathroom facilities new and clean.
Review 50:Big wedding party not segregated from paying guests,so bar overrun with those eating platefuls of food from their free buffet in the wedding reception room. Noisy and off-putting.
Review 51:The room was very dusty, especially the light. fitting.
Review 52:The location was brilliant, the hotel had wonderful grounds, with black swans on the lake.So relaxing.
Review 53:we booked on wrong days as there were wedding both days lounge is not available in the evening for party.parking was difficult best to avoid wedding days Parking on grass possible but not on rainy days.could be noisy if near reception
Review 54:helpful staff excellent location
Review 55:None
Review 56:Location, cleanliness, staff. Breakfast was excellent. I have seen few reviews about dated decor, well this is few centuries old, most of the decor is antiques. So if you are looking for spanky, flashy may be brand new chain of hotels would be suitable.
Review 57:Great location: So quiet and relaxed, beautiful grounds. Good food: Very good evening meal in the restaurant. Excellent staff and service: Dates needed to be changed due to a bereavement. Despite this being a non-flexible deal, Dumbleton Hall changed the dates directly with booking.com
Review 58:I was just looking for somewhere to stay overnight while in the area and chose Dumbleton Hall on the basis of good reviews, but without looking into it too much. It far exceeded expectations, offering great value for money, friendly staff and a beautiful setting. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 59:Room a little overcrowded with furniture for its size. Hotel profits are being re-invested in an on-going refurbishment, which is worthwhile as bathroom clean but décor a little tired.
Review 60:Wonderful place to overnight with a friend from Australia - beautiful building and gardens. We didn't have an evening meal but breakfast was very good.
Review 61:Food in main restaurant was not good and the lamb was very underdone and returned. The choice was limited and expensive.
Review 62:The building and location are excellent.
Review 63:The bedroom was very cold as a very small radiator in a large room and not working properly. Although there is meant to be Internet provided impossible to gain access.
Review 64:Beautiful views from room and very comfortable bed. Breakfast and Dinner very nice and attentive staff. Excellent car parking.
Review 65:The room stank of air-freshener. I didn't get much sleep as there was a noise like a coat slipping off its hanger every 14 mins. I mentioned it at reception when checking out and the lady suggested it might have been the automated air-freshener and she would have maintenance check it.
Review 66:Reasonable size room. Nice view over the garden.
Review 67:Struggled to get good internet connection but the hotel is miles from anywhere so whilst a bit of an inconvenience it is a small price to pay for the fantastic location
Review 68:The general atmosphere of the building is fantastic. Sharp edges all rubbed off and slightly quirky. Just my style! Have been several times and will continue to return.
Review 69:The corridors, hall, stairs, landing and public rooms looked tired and room The bedroom was cramped and had next to no wifi connection which was inconvenient. As a consequence I felt the room rate was excessive.
Review 70:Fantastic setting but experience did not live up to it.
Review 71:We had asked for a room with a view and a bath in the ensuite - received everything we asked for. The bed was fantastic, it was massive and very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely and the staff very nice.
Review 72:The facilities weren't amazing- and they could have benefited from music in the lounge/restaurant to add to the atmosphere.
Review 73:The hotel staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, the hall itself was in really good condition, clean and decorated well. The grounds were beautiful and provided a very relaxed backdrop to our over night stay.
Review 74:Food, chicken was dry, the lamb again over cooked. Breakfast was disappointing, had to keep sending the lad back for forgotten items
Review 75:Everything except the food
Review 76:A hotel of this grandeur could do with more facilities, such as pool/leisure club. A long way from external facilities so you are stuck with the hotels restaurant and prices/choices.
Review 77:Large comfortable rooms. Very quiet, both internally and externally. Beautiful grand old building set in a lovely location.
Review 78:Not always sufficient staff to cater for needs of guests.
Review 79:Comfortable, spacious in an attractive, quiet rural village. Beautiful grounds and gardens. Excellent meals.
Review 80:one minor issue, the lighting in our room was poor, especially to read etc.
Review 81:Very happy hotel, staff were lovely. Hotel was like a faded, elegant and gracious old lady. We loved it's ambience and the surrounding parkland is beautiful
Review 82:No complaints but the breakfast served in the room was 90%, but we loved it!
Review 83:The whole ambiance from arrival to departure and the staff's friendliness.
Review 84:Hard to find much wrong for a 3 star rating. Rooms slightly jaded in places but very clean wam and comfortable and well proportioned.
Review 85:Warm friendly hotel which has a truly traditional ambience, log fire at the entrance, palacial gardens and excellent food. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 86:food mediocre and over-priced for the standard and the quality. A common complaint though in most places , immediately after Christmas
Review 87:beautiful accommodation location comfortable room pet friendly
Review 88:WiFi signal was not very strong in our room, but if you are staying at Dumbleton Hall it should not be one of your priorities anyway
Review 89:Everything, except the WiFi
Review 90:Prospective guests should be aware the evening restaurant menu has a very limited choice. Our main course was poorly cooked and lacked taste. Next time we will eat elsewhere.
Review 91:The room was a bit too hot, drinks were quite expensive
Review 92:The location was stunning, spacious and clean family room, lovely food, great walking in the grounds.
Review 93:The hotel advises that Wifi is readily available however you need to be in the reception area to obtain any sort of signal and the strength is very poor indeed, if the hotel advises Wifi is available you should be able to get a signal any where in the hotel. We waited 50 mins for our cooked breakfast on the Sunday morning without any explanation as to the delay.
Review 94:Nothing
Review 95:Friendly,attentive staff.Warm greeting on arrival; great breakfast and service; wonderful location; accommodation for single room was excellent
Review 96:Wish I had booked for the week!
Review 97:Location was stunning although it was Autumn, set in wonderful grounds. Customer service was beyond expectations very friendly staff . Food second to none. Good quality clean tasty food in abundance. Enough breakfast to last all day! Accommodation atmospheric and welcoming especially the warm open fire on a wet damp day. Intend returning with the wife for her birthday treat in the not so distant future. Would highly recommend to anyone considering a stay at Dumbleton Hall.
Review 98:Once inside, the hotel looks a little run down and shabby. The carpets are a little worn and the paint could use some warmer colors. Both on arrival and on leaving we had to wait until someone called up the receptionist. The food was not outstanding but the prices certainly were. Small detail, but the bathrooms had almost no towel bars or hangers. All in all, 3 star quality with 5 star prices.
Review 99:The location is absolutely spectacular, the pictures on line do not give it credit. The exterior suggests something out of a movie set.
Review 100:Relaxed cosy atmosphere - staff friendly and helpful. Amazing country views with great walks. Definately a place to stay if you want to relax and take a step back.
Review 101:Wine and drinks were a bit dear. £20 for a bottle of wine which probably cost no more than £5 was a bit much
Review 102:Comfortable lounge, excellent staff , room and bed comfortable. First class breakfast and dinner. The cedar trees were magnificent as was the deer and fawn in the morning
Review 103:Leaving!
Review 104:The drive up to the house is breathtakingly beautiful! The house itself is so lovely & it's great to read & see the history of the House. You can really sense how they lived. The grounds are stunning & well kept . The lake is beautiful. The staff truly make your experience at Dumbleton to be rememorable & I thank them for that. I had a chocolate cake for my birthday, champagne & handmade chocolates in the room when I arrived! (Hubby organized & paid for these!) The four poster bed was very comfortable & the bedding was of a high quality too. Food was beautifully presented & was excellent in flavours & choice. It was a set menu, but very varied.
Review 105:Great location and magnificent building with an amazing history. Rooms and facilities were extremely good. Food from the restaurant was very good quality.
Review 106:Inevitably the hotel is used for weddings on summer Saturdays and when we visited the whole place was taken over by the party. The live band played till midnight.
Review 107:Lovely countryside location. Building and grounds resemble a National Trust property with lots of history to read about. Food at dinner and breakfast was very good.
Review 108:The food was overpriced in the restaurant and the meal we had was poor value for money.
Review 109:The hotel is in a beautiful setting and centrally located to visit the surrounding area. We would definitely stay again.
Review 110:We are both disabled with Multiple Sclerosis. The 'disabled' room we were given had no mattress protector on the bed and we couldn't use the shower as it was above the bath which we couldn't get in.
Review 111:Food, afternoon tea.
Review 112:The hotel said it accepted dogs. The staff were so helpful with every request we made with regard to our dog, and all seemed to be dog lovers. They made such a fuss of Millie.
Review 113:Room was a tad shabby, paint was peeling of the wall, dirty marks on the wall and the bed was very uncomfortable. taxi was expensive to get to closest village/restaurant £18.00 one way for 3 miles! you should make an arrangement with a taxi service to get cheaper rates for hotel guests
Review 114:The grounds, lovely setting. Bathroom was clean and modern, helpful staff.
Review 115:We had a dinner at the resutaurant. Pasta menus were not tasty, so I will not recommend.
Review 116:Good location and facilities. Staff was friendly and had good hospitality.
Review 117:A couple of weddings were going on while we were there, and we had to walk through the assembled guests to get from one part of the hotel to the other. The staff assured us that this was fine, but some of the guests looked at us like interlopers.
Review 118:The staff were unbelievably helpful and considerate. The grounds are beyond description. Breakfast was varied and bountiful, as well as delicious.
Review 119:The breakfast was below average
Review 120:Very good value Beautiful location Very friendly staff
Review 121:a very lovely peaceful place to stay but near enough to pretty towns if necessary
Review 122:I think the hotel needs a little TLC - cobweb in dinning room, dirty plates left lying around, hole in the duvet cover
Review 123:I felt the breakfasts was a little underwhelming
Review 124:Beautiful location and wonderful staff
Review 125:Stunning location, magnificent building, super-friendly staff.
Review 126:Room cold, heating in other areas fine.
Review 127:Comfort in out of room areas, restaurant food well presented, good menu choice and extremely tasty.
Review 128:Loved location
Review 129:Heating was difficult to understand
Review 130:Good overnight stop over
Review 131:Bedroom water supply not potable.
Review 132:Friendly atmosphere, good staff, good food
Review 133:cooked breackfast
Review 134:The welcoming open fire and historical character to the building and grounds
Review 135:Location
The Fine Print
Please note that the hotel hosts weddings and private functions, which may limit the bar and public areas for guests. The restaurant will remain open, but some noise may be heard.
