Reviews for The Pheasant
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:Food was excellent. Staff good especially the New Zealand bar chap. Despite the owner and his wife being flooded out of their own home they remained cheerful and good hosts...
Review 3:Light above mirror not fixed when reported. Wallpaper peeling in room. Wrong newspaper delivered. Food allergy request not adhered to in dining room. Waiting staff difficulty with communication.
Review 4:Close to Northern Lakes. Charming old coaching inn. Comfortable clean room.
Review 5:Nothing!!
Review 6:The staff were so friendly and helpful. This was the quintessential English inn! The description online does not do it justice. I could not have been more pleased I chose it online six months ago!
Review 7:Breakfast - disliked smoked bacon & also smoke flavoured mushrooms & over cooked fried eggs. A disappointment after the excellent dinners we had.
Review 8:The Pheasant has a great feel, very relaxed. In lovely grounds. Fantastic staff, friendly and helpful. Lovely rooms. Reasonable pricing. As a regular visitor I can't recommend this enough.
Review 9:Our room (and any room that had an open door as we passed!) was in desperate need of re-decoration. It's sad that the wonderful, hard working staff are let down by a management who should be investing more in the upkeep.
Review 10:We had a two night stay, ate in the Bistro one night and the main restaurant on the second. All our meals were well cooked, well presented and delicious - the same goes for breakfasts too! From the initial greeting to our departure we thought the staff were fantastic, their hard work and attention to eveything couldn't be faulted.
Review 11:The price of drinks and the lack of any background music in the restaurante
Review 12:The customer service was excellent the staff did all they could to ensue we had a pleasant stay
Review 13:The decor and being ignored at the bar for quite some time as the barmaid served the regulars. The breakfast was good served by a great French waiter he was pleasant and nothing was a trouble to him.
Review 14:The Pheasant needs a complete refurbishment. The Rooms, Bistro and Pub areas are very tired looking and depressing. The only room that looks to be the standard of what you are paying is the Dining Room.
Review 15:Location - not near any other places of interest. Bedroom/bathroom needs decorating. Fan in kitchen below very noisy. Woken at 7am by delivery vans.
Review 16:Friendliness of staff and the food.
Review 17:An old country inn full of character, quirks and little imperfections - and perfectly enjoyable as such - however the high cost of accommodation and evening meal raised expectations of an exceptional visitor experience that it ultimately failed to deliver.
Review 18:Lovely old-fashioned inn, in a quiet location
Review 19:Wallpaper in bathroom was coming off the walls. Light bulbs needed changing in bedroom.
Review 20:Attractive building, good bar, lovely restaurant with good food and pretty gardens.
Review 21:No real negative... but the breakfast finishing a little early at 10am. But accepted that they have lunch to get ready for.
Review 22:Gorgeous old world pub - stunning bar
Review 23:A traditional hotel with really nice genuine features, the staff made us very welcome and the food was excellent although the crackling nibbles needed some chewing . The setting and gardens were very nice and little touches like the Eco areas were appreciated.
Review 24:Wifi was a little weak and didn't reach to our room, but we could still get connected downstairs in the lounge
Review 25:Very well run, friendly staff with an attention for detail, food up to the standard of many 5 star hotels in London but very good value, the little touches (like the weather forecast on our bed every day and freshly squeezed orange for breakfast) made all the difference. We also enjoyed the great beer and sitting in the lovely garden every evening after our walks. We will be coming back
Review 26:The standard of service particularly in the restaurant and bistro was poor. There appeared to be no overall management supervision. Surprised to find same menu in restaurant and bistro , little variety over 3 day stay
Review 27:The comfort of the bedrooms and public areas
Review 28:Just one dislike. The floodlights in the garden pointing at our side window were very bright at night and kept me awake. Might they not be turned off say at midnight ??
Review 29:The Room , The superbly comfortable bed.
Review 30:Having to leave.
Review 31:This is a fabulous Inn. The food is excellent, the bar has a extensive choice of whiskies and serves local ales. The location is superb.
Review 32:The Hotel, although a little difficult to find was a truly wonderful experience and well worth the stay. Good food, real ales (including mulled wine)& a roaring log fire were all very much appreciated on cold spring evenings. The staff were friendly and the bedrooms rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast and evening meals were well presented and extremely filling, but delicious.too.
Review 33:The first night's meal the chicken pie was overcooked and dried out. The first morning the breakfasts were cool probably from being left in the kitchen too long. The second evenings meal, the fish was well undercooked and the batter soggy and pale. We complained and this was not charged on our bill. The kipper next morning appeared to have had an accident - in pieces and part missing! We waited in the breakfast room for 10 minutes before any staff appeared. There was also swearing heard from the kitchen on more thanone occassion.
Review 34:The olde worldy atmosphere
Review 35:We liked the general air of comfort and warmth at The Pheasant and the staff were particularly welcoming and pleasant. Food was good all round with an excellent breakfast.
Review 36:Slightly dated decor in rooms but very comfortable.
Review 37:Excellent food, both bistro dinner and breakfast. Great attention to detail. Warm, friendly bar; comfy residents' lounge - ideal for a Feb visit.
Review 38:We booked on the internet and didn't realize the hotel could actually accommodate dogs in outside lodge rooms. We would have loved to have taken our dog!
Review 39:Gorgeous, comfortable and warm hotel. Lovely bedrooms.
Review 40:After coming away from the pheasant and checking there website we saw a deal which including a meal voucher we were not offered this on arrival.
Review 41:Me 20 and my boyfriend 19 spent a wonderful weekend away here, staff were fantastic! The atmosphere here is amazing and food was beautiful! I shall be recommending The Pheasent! We will be back
Review 42:We stayed at The Pheasant Inn during the Christmas holiday period. We had an amazing experience overall - the staff were absolutely superb & went out of the way to make our stay comfortable. Cannot fault anything at all really - the breakfast was excellent & the chef even cooked some risotto (not on the menu) for lunch as we are vegetarian. There is an excellent walk to be had from right outside the hotel doorstep, climbing up to Sale Fell, which we thoroughly enjoyed. All in all, thoroughly recommend & we will definitely be planning a visit & stay again.
Review 43:Could do with sprucing up the decor in places. No milk in bedroom & toiletries not replenished.
Review 44:Characterful property in great , quiet location. Food in restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast. Service very pleasant and friendly
Review 45:restaurant closed on the Sunday and Monday we were there, but the bistro was nice
Review 46:Helpful and friendly staff. Nice food Traditional and quaint, loved the log fires and stoves Use of the spa was great also
Review 47:noisy room right by an extractor fan for the kitchen from 7am to 9.30pm, slightly shabby decor in places Avoid the room called Matterdale if you want peace and quiet
Review 48:friendly service room overall comfortable
Review 49:Sleep disturbed in Matterdale by noise from kitchen extractor but should probably have had more Hawkshead bitter and gone to bed later
Review 50:Welcoming and friendly staff. Excellent food. Cosy atmosphere with log fires on wet days. The Hawkshead bitter was excellent.
Review 51:Fire alarm went off twice early hours and there was no acknowledgement in the final bill that this had ruined our sleep. We had to congregate in the car park at 3.30am and no fire marshall was present.
Review 52:Room , facilities , breakfast and peace and quite
Review 53:My partner didn't enjoy his meal on our first night. The fish was 'more batter than fish'. When we pointed this out we only got an 'oh what a shame' from the server. BUT the food from then on was wonderful. We enjoyed ourselves so much we have already booked another stay.
Review 54:The attitude of the staff, really pleasant, but not in your face. The open fire and squashy chairs. The gardens, I can't wait to go back when the weather will be good enough to enjoy them.
Review 55:The smokers did congregate outside our window and chat but they weren't there for too long.
Review 56:A lovely old inn full of character and carefully restored with beautiful private gardens for guests to use. It was nice to have a choice of restaurants in the evening. The room and bathroom were spacious and well appointed.
Review 57:Unfortunately the fire alarms went off at 4am and all the guests (some quite elderly) groped their way outside with no assistance or guidance - there seemed to be no staff on site. Eventually a member of staff arrived, said it was a false alarm and we all went back to bed. Half an hour later the same thing happened, but this time we stayed put. We didn't get back to sleep again. These things happen, but a member of staff should have been on hand from the moment the alarm went off, not some 20 minutes later! No apologies then, though there were in the morning. Consequently NOT a restful night.
Review 58:It was impossible to turn off the heated towel rail in our bathroom and consequently the room was unbearably hot at night. It did not seem that this could be corrected.
Review 59:Very pleasant staff and comfortable rooms downstairs. Food good.
Review 60:A lot of effort has gone into upgrading the appearance generally and for the most part it has been a great success. However in our bedroom there was some peeling wallpaper and signs of water ingress.
Review 61:We only stayed one night but we couldn't have been looked after better. It is in a super quiet position surrounded by delightful gardens. It was very comfortable and the food super.
Review 62:NOTHING.Apart from forgetting to hand in our key which we realised In Scotland. I am using this communication to apologise and confirm that it will be returned but without a note attached
Review 63:everything was just right, the staff were customer focussed and kindly.Personally I received good tuition in using my newly acquired IPad from a most helpful member of staff so my confusion did not affect my comfort THANKYOU
Review 64:Anything!
Review 65:Excellent service, food and accommodation. The staff were all very helpful Good traditional hotel which had not lost its original character
Review 66:Being placed over the kitchen with a very noisy extractor below. Trying to call the hotel en route to tell them I would be late arriving and having to be put on the answerphone to leave a message which was returned much later. Ringing down from my room to find there was no response from Reception and no answerphone A dirty kettle in my room.
Review 67:The hotel was comfortable in a 1950s sense.
Review 68:Fire alarm at 1.00 am!
Review 69:The location is readily accessible but off the beaten track. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and quiet (apart from the fire alarm!). Staff were unobtrusive yet helpful. The food was excellent.

Review 75:Cramped room, mildew on bathroom ceiling. Poor value for money.
Review 76:Location, traditional bar
Review 77:Wi-fi didn't work in my room.
Review 78:Real fires, good food, atmospheric bar, great views - and just down the path from Bassenthwaite lake.
Review 79:Was looking a bit tired, not good value for money. The food was overpriced and a bit pretentious.
