Reviews for The Cross at Kingussie
Review 1:Lovely spot, very comfortable rooms and excellent food. Only downside to our rooms were the windows as the ceiling was sloping so they were skylights and we couldn't see the pretty surroundings. Would still recommend though as we really enjoyed our stay.
Review 2:There was no shower in the room, just a shower attachment over the bath. This was a small thing though and everything else eclipsed this really.
Review 3:Excellent hotel, very comfortable room and the staff really worked hard to be as accommodating as possible. The breakfast was outstandingly good and I would have loved to have had time to eat dinner there.
Review 4:The room was a little cramped and the bathroom a little small. Kingussie is a very small town with not a lot going on so you need to be aware of this!
Review 5:Best breakfast served in a charming room. Great hiking trails right out the door. Really comfortable bed and great shower! We found a friendly pub for dinner with good good, but The Cross has a restaurant and I feel sure the good is great if breakfast is any indication!!
Review 6:This hotel has absolutely lovely location, just at the small river, under the trees; garden with fantastic flowers, a lot of different birds and squirells coming. Very friendly, competent, helpfull service. Food and drinks sophisticated, absolutely perfect. Direct access to walking routes.
Review 7:£20 upgrade for 'river view' was a bit of a let down. Window v small and could have been in any room. Not worth it.
Review 8:Tasting menu was excellent, first class! Staff were great, nice location by the river to sit on terrace for a drink.
Review 9:The fact we couldn't stay for longer.
Review 10:We had our mini honeymoon at The Cross and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The location is amazing: we spent a long time watching all the red squirrels from our Window. The food was exquisite and the service throughout was without fault. We felt right at home. We will definately be returning at some point.
Review 11:Nothing negative to report.
Review 12:Very pleasant location. Lovely building furnished to a high standard. bedrooms very roomy and comfortable, with excellent bathrooms. Evening meal a delight.
Review 13:Optional evening meals were very expensive, and I'm sure they would have been excellent, but we did not try them. Weather was unseasonally cool, and guests lounges were a little cool to sit in. Bedrooms were very cosy.
Review 14:Sound and view of the river outside was very nice. Allowed dogs was one of reasons for choosing this hotel. Lots of books and DVDs available to borrow. Superb breakfast.
Review 15:Restricted wifi coverage within the house. Would have liked an a la carte option for dinner, for the nights when you can't fit in three courses.
Review 16:Excellent location. Quiet and next to a beautiful river, but only a short walk into town. Owners friendly and helpful. The food was excellent.
Review 17:Very comfortable, well maintained, extra facilities, welcoming staff.
Review 18:Obviously the food was a major reason for staying at The Cross. An added bonus is the location, tranquillity and professionalism of the staff.

Review 30:Rooms were in need of sprucing up, tired lounge furniture, no wifi in bedrooms.

Review 32:very weak wi-fii connection
Review 33:very spacious room, comfortable bed and large bathroom, modern amenities and nice furniture, excellent and rich breakfast.
Review 34:- as usual in the UK, double bed could be bigger
Review 35:+ great location + very nice old house + tastefully modernized + excellent food
Review 36:A ove all breakfast
Review 37:Good restaurant but overpriced if only on a B and B basis.
Review 38:We were particularly taken with the very picturesque setting and atmosphere at the Cross. A lovely stay all 'round.
Review 39:Dinner too fussy and too expensive. Needs more price flexibility. Showers not hot enough No teapot.
Review 40:Rooms were excellent and breakfast first class, although only available from 8-30am. Helpful owners and wonderful setting in old mill.
Review 41:Slightly small narrow rooms with limited window space in old mill section but well laid out. Sound proofing not good. Bottom line it was a bit pricy for 2 nights so would not repeat too often.
Review 42:Excellent food and presentation with meticulous attention to detail down to the breads, croissants and jams/honey that were all superb. Nice, comfortable lounge. Fantastic setting next to river with immediate access to amazing walks.
Review 43:Although we slowly gained a nice relationship with the Owners, the initial reception was very reserved, almost cool - not the cheery welcome given on previous visits. Derek was on the computer and neither turned round to greet us or offered to help with our luggage. Celia offered to take a case but we, in mid-70's - ended up doing it ourselves, climbing the steep staircase . And, on departure, having checked-out and gone up-stairs to collect the last of our pieces, there was no one there to wave 'goodbye' as we left, which was also disappointing. We asked for a third pillow on one of the beds and were offered one which was more of a cushion and had a rather grubby looking pillow-case. While we commend the Owners for promoting Scottish gin, we think that this should not be the only gin available. It should be presented as a speciality like malt whisky and that Gordons or some of the mainstay gins should also be available.
Review 44:Had stayed there several times in the past, but not recently. The a la carte dinner menu was quite outstanding and breakfast very pleasant although the smoked haddock option was not available, disappointingly. Chef, Ross Sutherland, is first-class. Admired the promotion of Scottish gin.
Review 45:Wifi a little slow in rooms, but better in public sitting room.
Review 46:This was a beautiful location. The owners were so helpful. Very delightful dining experiences. Fine dining at its best. Lovely decor and personal touches.
Review 47:Excellent reception on arrival. Food fabulous. Taster menu really good, and breakfast perfect. Relaxed atmosphere - not suitable for children, but that is made clear on booking.
Review 48:Everything was excellent, and the owners were very pleasant and helpful.
