Reviews for The Moat House
Review 1:Would have liked more fresh fruit at breakfast
Review 2:Great location - near motorway which helped to break our journey Gastropub A touch of luxury - feels like a country house in an isolated location
Review 3:I had a very positive experience.
Review 4:Excellent venue for a friend's birthday. I travelled from London very tired. Lovely setting, excellent varied menus good wine list and courteos and helpful staff.
Review 5:Everything! The building is lovely, the staff friendly but efficient, and the room we were upgraded to was fabulous! The dinner was of Michelin Star standard, and it was worth going for this alone! We were breaking a long journey, but next time, this will be a destination!
Review 6:Nothing
Review 7:A calm oasis yet only minutes from M6 motorway. Beautiful surroundings. Excellent staff. Large comfy room & large bathroom. Good car parking. Would return if in area.
Review 8:Proximity to the M6 - noisy all night. The motorway is within about quarter of a mile of the hotel. Fire alarm went off at 7am - not ideal but I accept this was not their fault. However the water was cut off afterwards and not restored until we checked out - that was inconvenient!
Review 9:Nice location around the Mote. Lots of ducks, swans and moorhens to watch and enjoy.
Review 10:Beautiful location lovely walk along canal. Even though there was two large functions at location rooms were still quiet. Staff were really helpful and pleasant.
Review 11:Surprised dress code for the restaurant in the evening was not adhered to! Not happy that electronic cigarettes were allowed, particularly in the restaurant. As the stay was a birthday treat, was disappointed that the evening 'turndown' service did not happen.
Review 12:The setting and the hotel. Very pleasant staff.
Review 13:The moat house was an amazing stay, in one of the upgraded suites with an extra large spacious luxury room & canal view, my partner and I had the best weekend!
Review 14:The bed was OK but not the most comfy bed I've slept on, the wifi speed was superb and the connection solid but appeared to block VPN connections so I couldn't access my work email while there,
Review 15:Loved the location, the setting on the canal, the food and the incredibly helpful and friendly staff who make me want to go back.
Review 16:Not a criticism, hopefully being helpful...WiFi a bit patchy and no gym but lovely tow path to run/walk for miles along.
Review 17:Lovely location in a rural village beside a canal. Accommodation and staff first class. Plenty of open parking, attractive gardens,
Review 18:On Saturday evenings the dinner menu costs £45 per person and is pretty much the same as on the Friday evening when it costs £30. The only extras on the Saturday menu were a small sorbet and Etonian mess given as amuse bouche. Frankly it seemed a bit of a rip off and a great shame as the rest of our stay was excellent.
Review 19:The quality of the food in the restaurant at both breakfast and dinner was excellent
Review 20:Period house which has been sympathetically extended in a great situation surrounded by water alive with ducks, swans and a heron. Helpful and cheerful staff.
Review 21:The toiletries - didn't like the perfume of them! Not the fault of the hotel - but the noise from the motorway repairs overnight! Card key didn't work and had to go and have it rebooted late at night!
Review 22:Friendliness of staff; breakfast; spacious room; cleanliness.
Review 23:Packet hash browns at breakfast. Tinned? small mushrooms - the large open ones are much tastier. Wobbly table (the one in the window next to the garden)
Review 24:The friendliness and politeness of the staff. The log fire. The new carpet in the corridor
Review 25:Waiting 20 mins for the bill , being treated and 2nd rate and not given the full list of food people given more options because as I over heard "tip more"
Review 26:Room v noisy from traffic. Poor attention at breakfast, had to wait too long for staff, no spoons to eat cereal with and no milk and sugar for the tea, had to wait for staff and ask for both separately which meant I did not have time for a full breakfast.
Review 27:Friendly staff
Review 28:A bottle of wine ordered on room service failed to materialise, but at dinner the mistake was realised and we were given a bottle for free. Slightly awkward having to walk past the wedding party to get to the bar and restaurant, but worth the walk.
Review 29:Location is very accessible, yet secluded. Buildings are nicely laid out and have a very nice decor. Staff are so friendly and helpful.
Review 30:Bed was a slightly hard for my liking.
Review 31:The staff were of a very high calibre, easily 5 star. Would put them up there with the high end hotels I have stayed in London. Food was excellent, my partner was delighted with the vegetarian options
Review 32:Although l do realise the staff nead to get the tables cleared as quick as possible between courses l had barely finished before the plate was removed. Also the ques at the bar were a nightmare at times
Review 33:the food was excellent we were a party of 19 and we were pleasantly surprised at the amount of room around the tables.the staff were very pleasant and the rooms we couldn't fault. the breakfast was very nice you could have continental or cooked.
Review 34:There was nothing we didn't like. Only hitch was that I asked about church services at the nearby church and staff didn't seem to know anything about them despite the notes saying ask at reception. That's not a problem though - we walked to the church to check out the times as it's very close.
Review 35:We stayed for one night at the Moat House and will be happy to go back. The whole place was comfortable, relaxing and welcoming. It's conveniently near to the M6 but feels like you're out in the countryside away from it all and the dining room looks out over the canal.
Review 36:had to move room twice due to being put in a room above wedding functions twice. they need to make sure if they book guests in that if functions are on they place them away from this unless they are attending the actual function.
Review 37:We had a really long drive and arrived quite late to book in. The receptionist was genuinely sympathetic to our cause and was able to make us feel comfortable almost instantly. We managed to eat late in the bar which we were grateful for as we hadn't eaten for hours! We were very pleased with our stay and were just sorry that we only stayed for one night. We are planning to return after xmas for an extended stay.
Review 38:Staff seemed to busy to take order at breakfast time though there weren't many people around. Table was set with a dirty teacup and dirty fork.
Review 39:Big spacious room, lots of parking, beautiful views, cosy looking bar, well stocked bathroom and powerful shower.
Review 40:Wedding guests taking over the residents' lounge was intrusive.
Review 41:Our room was well appointed and comfortable. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was attractive and tasty. The location was lovely.
Review 42:Nothing.
Review 43:Great location, excellent food, delightful room; but the staff were wonderful, polite, cheerful, friendly and helpful in meeting our every request.
Review 44:Quite a lot of noise from the motorway. Expensive to stay here. Room could have done with updating.
Review 45:Fantastic location set in beautiful grounds. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food.
Review 46:We did not like our night sleep. Lucky we were very tired. The mattresses( 2 single beds) in our room were of the spring type that, had seen quite a bit of wear and were sinking in the middle. Though we appreciate the cost element involved in mattresses alone in running a hotel, we were expecting a lot better from a 4 star establishment. That is why we select 4 star as opposed to 3/2/etc..... I and my partner neither liked nor disliked the breakfast(full English). We felt it was bland. Nothing to remember other than it was not memorable. We think from other experiences that you could source and use good quality food items (may be even locally) and thus positively and greatly re-enforce the desirability to stay in your establishment.
Review 47:This is the second year that we came to stay at the hotel as we attend a local show. We shall come and stay again next year(God willing!) The setting is delightful in and out. The staff is great. Eager, smiling, most pleasant, polite and good English speakers. Overall a most pleasant experience.
Review 48:I stayed at the moat House for a wedding I was attending, the complete day/night was outstanding the staff could not do enough for you, the food was 5* the room was immaculate I would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant.
Review 49:Receptionist not knowledgeable about area Didn't get exactly what Iordered at breakfast
Review 50:Quiet country location, but close to m6 and Cannock Chase anobComfortable room Choice of restaurent or 'pub' food
Review 51:Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. Accommodation first class rooms with lots of personal touches. All staff from Reception through to Housekeeping very attentive and made us feel welcome. Evening meal in the Orangery Restaurant was superb and the breakfast equally good.
Review 52:As a solo traveller it is nice to have activity in the evening as opposed to just a bar so some gym facilities however small would have been a great asset
Review 53:The evening meal in the main restaurant was high quality with local produce superbly delivered. The staff were knowledgable and helpful and the view over the canal added to the general ambience. My room was spacious and comfortable and well appointed
Review 54:nothing
Review 55:All staff were a credit to the hotel, all very polite and prepared to go the extra mile to achieve customer satisfaction. The food was excellent and at a fair price along with the drinks at the bar. We will definitely be back. It was lovely to just sit by the lake with a nice glass of red and chilling out,
Review 56:Rather random but the groom having his breakfast in a dressing gown and backward facing Nike flat peak cap was rather off putting, but each to their own. No problem though.
Review 57:Excellent location close to M6. Stayed overnight for our wedding anniversary as we travelled to North Wales from Ipswich. Booked a meal for the evening and the standard was really good whilst the Orangery restaurant was an excellent setting. Our nights sleep was not interrupted even though there was a wedding reception on that day. Would definately recommend this hotel.
Review 58:Very noisy plumbing, particularly cold water tap in room 131. No offer to carry case to upstairs room and no visible lift - certainly not pointed out. Could be a real difficulty for mature guests.
Review 59:As break from a long motorway journey, we enjoyed comfortable, well equipped, sparkling clean rooms, personable attentive staff, and pretty unexpected location so near to M6
Review 60:Everything. It was comfortable, clean, the food was good and everyone was very friendly and kind. The hotel itself is charming, and it was a lovely stay, thank you.
Review 61:A few small issues: a couple of bulbs not working in my room , although one was replaced during my stay; mistake with room service breakfast (coffee instead of tea); reception too busy in the morning - five minutes for someone to answer my call!
Review 62:Staff were all friendly but efficient. Good hotel , good food.
Review 63:Superb location, close to J13 of the M6, but far enough away to ensure tranquil waterside surroundings. Great food, bar like a traditional village pub!
Review 64:They have late checkout but we couldn't enjoy it because we had to leave early next morning.
Review 65:We really loved this boutique hotel which had a very spacious room overlooking a small stream. It was the perfect spot to stop after a long day travelling
Review 66:Nothing. Everything was perfect.
Review 67:What a lovely stay at this beautiful hotel. The staff were all incredibly professional and on arriving we were offered a free upgrade. The bar restaurant food was amazing and great value for money. The best stay I have ever had. Well done.
Review 68:Hotel was undergoing redecoration work while we were there which we weren't notified of in advance. Stayed on Saturday night and Sunday night and on both nights there were two wedding functions taking place. It made us feel that we were 'intruding' on their weddings and not all of the hotel was available to us.
Review 69:Didn't like the confusion on booking the room with the extra £20 charge for breakfast for an extra person.
Review 70:We got an upgrade to an Executive Room on check in as they had a wedding in and wanted to put us away fom any noise, which was fabulous service. The location next to the canal was lovely and the room was spacious and clean. The teddy bear was a lovely touch.
Review 71:Everything was perfect
Review 72:We were celebrating my partners 65th birthday with family and friends. Some guests stayed overnight and commented on how wonderful the rooms were. Everything was perfect, the food, the stunning hotel and location and the polite and professional staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend it .
Review 73:The only uncomfortable thing was the temperature in the restaurant which is a conservatory. It was a particularly hot weekend when we stayed though.
Review 74:The staff are very cheerful and polite from the moment you step into the hotel to the moment you leave. The garden and ponds are very well presented and it's so relaxing sitting out having drinks watching the ducks and soaking up the atmosphere. The restaurant service and food are excellent. We've stayed several times and will definitely be returning again.
