Reviews for The Conningbrook Hotel
Review 1:Only negative was that the weather was so mild that we found the heating too warm.
Review 2:Very friendly staff and very accommodating about our two small dogs.
Review 3:Bed was a little on the hard side and unfortunately being on the ground floor when the person was being sick during the night and flushing the toilet it disturbed our sleep as the drain seemed to be behind our bedroom wall
Review 4:The room was clean and well equipped staff were helpful and friendly and breakfast was great
Review 5:An elevator would have been nice, carrying three large suitcases up stairs was OK for us, but an older couple mind find it a bit harder. The bathroom has an old skylight which was quite mouldy and dripped when you were in the bathroom. Cushion covers on the beds had seen better days and needed a wash.
Review 6:Good food in the lower restaurant and location was good for Dover and Canterbury.
Review 7:The property is old so you hear all noices very loud due to wooden floors and ceiling. Not recommeed for people with sleeping problems
Review 8:Very nice breakfast
Review 9:See anove
Review 10:The male team for breakfast did there best but sevice service compared to last stay and female staff a lot slower but they were pleasant just not organized maybe . The guy next to us commented 'how long does it take to make porridge " .
Review 11:Beds uncomfortable, shower not too good.
Review 12:Excellent food in the restaurant, very friendly and helpful staff, could not have done enough. Excellent location for the train station. Had a very enjoyable stay.
Review 13:Cleaning wasn't great - other people's hairs on cushions and the bathroom floor had hair on it. The bath panel was falling off. We thought the loud music was stopping at 23:30 but it went on until midnight.
Review 14:Staff were excellent. breakfast was also excellent.
Review 15:The only disappointment in an otherwise very good hotel was the internal noise. Very loud creaky floorboards, dogs barking (inside hotel)and loud clear voices in nearby rooms caused a much interrupted nights sleep.
Review 16:A very clean, comfortable hotel. Staff, with one exception, were extremely friendly, helpful and competent. The bar/restaurant was of a good standard for our needs and we both enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast..
Review 17:All, in every Area of the hotel were very helpful and friendly. The bar is cool, Food in the Restaurant very Good. Breakfast fantastic. It was great to have a hotel where all needs are catered for instead of having to go out and look for everything. We will be back!
Review 18:Decor a bit dated in some areas. Floor boards creaked but not an easy fix.
Review 19:Staff very helpful and pleasant, food excellent. Overall stay good vaue for money.
Review 20:Could not book a table on either night we stayed as xmas parties took upall the dining areas. Had to take pot luck so that meant having ourevening meals at 4 one day and 4.30 the next. Would expect it to busy atthis time of year but should still be able to eat at a reasonable timeas a guest of the Hotel.
Review 21:Good food at very reasonable prices Nice bar
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:Everything. Situation, welcome, helpfulness, no extra's to payt for dogs, free wi-fi, excellent breakfast included in our price, room very confortable and adequate.
Review 24:Room was dirty and hadn't been cleaned before we arrived pubic hair in the bath and the room clearly wasn't hoovered there was bits of dirt all over the floor.
Review 25:the staff were friendly and breakfast was nice.
Review 26:Shower in morning not hot only slightly warm. Room in need of attention, Bathroom a bit worn.
Review 27:Overall the room was good. Plenty of space and comfortable. Breakfast very good. Bar facilities good.
Review 28:Nothing really, only something really trivial like the UHT milk for teas, but that's pretty standard anyway!
Review 29:I thought the breakfasts were amazing!
Review 30:Very welcoming staff at reception and in bar. Room a good size with all that was needed for our stay. Good breakfast choices. Would recommend to stay.
Review 31:too much noise after midnight, had to call front desk to ask them to tell the people next door to be quiet. The staff responded immediately.
Review 32:location was close to my family, room was spacious and comfortable. Great breakfast selection every morning. Staff were very helpful
Review 33:The hotel does not have a lift but on checking in they immediately offered to change the room to a ground floor for my mother who is not so mobile as she used to be. Staff were all helpful and polite. Room was a little small but spotless and the pillows were great!
Review 34:This hotel is incredible the staff are fantastic. The rooms are spacious and clean and well presented. The food on offer is brilliant as well. There is literally nothing I can fault this hotel on.
Review 35:Floor boards in room 46 not fixed properly. Heating in common areas up full blast, making it feel like Jamaica. Extractor fan randomly switching on and off as the humity sensor not working. View from room of air conditioning units, which hummed all evening.
Review 36:Friendly staff,lovely food & drink
Review 37:There was a party in the building. They had a good time but we didn't like the music en shouting that we heard in our room from downstairs til midnight
Review 38:Nice room with all you needed.
Review 39:If you are looking to start here, I would recommend that you check if there is a private function going on!! There were children running up and down the corridor, knocking and kicking on the doors!! It carried on until after 10:30pm! The adults in the party then started arguing in the corridor!!
Review 40:The hotel is lovely. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and well equipped. The bar and restaurant were excellent, and all the staff very helpful. The breakfast was delicious with a large selection to choose from!
Review 41:Shower head seemed a little old and grimey. Some litter found in the room when we first arrived.
Review 42:The breakfast was very nice. Beds were very comfortable and room was nice. This was my second stay at the hotel and both stays confirmed this.
Review 43:I stay for meetings several times a year. Good sized rooms, with plenty of storage space, windows that open, quiet at night, apart from limited traffic noise. Excellent range of breakfast choices, helpful staff.
Review 44:When i booked it said my room had a bath, so was disappointed to only have a shower. The bedside lamp didn't work and the pillows were a bit flat and lumpy. There were also feather cushions on the bed when i had stated i was allergic to feathers. Bedroom door was also very squeaky - could do with oiling!
Review 45:Nice, clean room and a really good breakfast with a good choice of items. The key drop to check out is helpful when you need to leave quickly in the morning.
Review 46:no heat in room 53, ,bed very uncomfortable, bedside lights to dim to read, no view just a roof. out of date menu in room, paper not delivered to room. for
Review 47:nothing not delivered
Review 48:We didn't like coming home!
Review 49:We loved the comfort and warmth of the room we had. The character of the property was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 50:The hotel is very inviting. The room was large and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and always attentive. Really good value for money. The breakfast had everything you could want.
Review 51:The only slight negative was Squeaky floorboards in the room!
Review 52:Hotel was great, room and bathroom spotlessly clean , nice choice for breakfast and quality was lovely
Review 53:Wi-Fi is very poor. You have to tell the system everything except your shoe size and then you only get dial up speed if that. Tissues in the room would be a good addition and check tea/coffee is restocked every day.
Review 54:Standard hotel. Not excelling but OK. Breakfast was good. Avoid the Blueberry pancakes though. Reheated scotch pancakes were not what I was expecting.
Review 55:The reception staff were particularly helpful, we asked to be moved to a quiet room, which was found for us straight away. The late night receptionist booked taxis for our party from our wedding venue, great help.
Review 56:Drinks were a little expensive
Review 57:Everything, the staff were excellent, polite, helpful. The room was spotless and comfortable, the food was first class. The hotel was very well kept and the grounds and gardens excellent. Housekeeping was the best.
Review 58:Last time there were 3 members of staff at breakfast doing nothing but standing around chatting and leaving tables uncleared etc. This time there was just one poor lad running around doing everything - trying to clear tables, take orders and bring food and drink out - not another member of staff in sight! All credit to him but shame on management for letting him be run ragged like that! They'll be lucky to keep him, I felt awful seeing him trying to do everything on his own.. Bedroom was nice and spacious but the bed was unbelievably creaky - did worry the frame was going to crack, and it's not as if I'm particularly heavy! Two people sleeping in it would probably not dare move!
Review 59:Big spacious room and very pleasant young man serving at breakfast time.
Review 60:All the staff where all very young and seemed lost and unmotivated. There was no manager around when we checked in nor when we left the following morning. The young staff especially at breakfast didn't have a clue!! We sat down and waited 10 minutes before anyone came over and actually my husband had to ask for a coffee and tea. When the food came my husband wanted brown sauce and again there were no staff! The girl appeared and we asked for the sauce which came when he had almost finished. This hotel seems to lack management and the staff need leadership. On dropping the key off in the morning all we got was a sideward glance!!
Review 61:This hotel provided everything I was looking for out two night stay. Close to the tunnel, ample free parking, excellent included breakfast, very good evening meals and finally comfort at a very reasonable price.
Review 62:Excellant service from staff in all areas. The room design and finish was very good. The takeaway early breakfast was outstanding and much appreciated. Restaurant menu interesting and very good value for money.
Review 63:Staff still on duty to welcome us when got off a Eurostar train delayed for four hours and arrived at midnight. Really comfortable bed and great breakfast
Review 64:The pillows need renewing found them to be very lumpy and an additional pair wouldn't go amiss. Didn't have a good sleep as use to better at home. Shower water pressure very poor, more like a dribble.
Review 65:As always a very good atmosphere here and everything looked well kept n clean. Breakfast very good. Staff attentive.
Review 66:Room 46 looks like one of just three rooms that doesn't have a decent view. The room is above the kitchen and all you see and hear from the room with the window open is the kitchen extractor fans, two of them. Apart from that the bedroom and bathroom was lovely.
Review 67:The room and hotel was lovely, very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 68:If I was being VERY picky the water in the morning for my shower was just barely warm enough
Review 69:Given that it was within the budget range of hotels, this was surprisingly excellent. Very comfortable single room, lovely bathroom. The staff were friendly, the adjoining restaurant perfectly adequate, and the breakfast good
Review 70:1. All the disabled bays were taken up by non disabled cars. My wife had to walk a long way across the gravel to the hotel with her bags. She has MS and this was difficult. 2. when I went to bed at 11 there was a very very loud function still going on. It finished at 11.30 but I would have liked to have known about it beforehand. When I asked for another room at 11pm of course this was not possible, too late 3. The fan in room 52 was permanently on, it took going down to reception to find someone to help me locate the switch 4. Why do all hotel teas and coffees not have somewhere to put the tea bags. The tiny bin makes it a lottery of disposal 5. no air conditioning 6. No iron in the room 7. no free wifi, or at least couldn't find reference to it in the manual 8. number to dial reception not in manual, or at least difficult to find 9. Post code, albeit accurate could do with the extra information of number on road. Spent 15 minutes trying to find it 10. room 37 shower was tepid (7am Sunday).
Review 71:Breakfast was OK. grounds OK. decor good
Review 72:The Hotel was very clean. The staff were really polite and our room was extremely comfortable. I would definitely recommend it and will be staying here again in the future.
Review 73:our room was about 50m from a gravel surface carpark which meant I had to carry suitecase, which is ok for younger people
Review 74:friendly and helpful staff food both e/meal and breakfast of a good standard with a range of choices
Review 75:My daughter is a Coeliac - menu has to be gluten free. Despite having a file showing menu options that are gluten free - one after one when we asked for clarification there was an issue - chef wasn't running 2 fat pans - the gluten free chicken on the menu was mixed with a side that wasn't !! It all seemed too much trouble for the kitchen. Very disappointed - Carvery + gluten free yorkshires + gf gravy is not difficult !! Breakfast at 7:00 - with the tunnel 15 mins away - should be a 6:00 option for early starters - overall 4/10 :-(
Review 76:Location good - hotel clean
Review 77:Waited over 40 minutes to pay dinner bill having ask for bill on three occasions. This was the only negative about thi trip. This only really cussed a problem because a member of the party was ill.
Review 78:Exceptionally rude waiter, when we asked for a table for two at 7.30, restaurant more than half empty but he would check if he had any tables free, begrudgingly gave us one in the traffic path.
Review 79:Reception staff very pleasant and helpful
Review 80:Room was smaller than expected especially the bed, very small for acouple & being on the ground floor creeping noises from aboveroom/s was very annoying especially not going to sleep till after 1or 2 in the morning and starting again by 7 in the morning. Whetherthis was due to whomever in the room was having sex, makes more reasonthat that floor or room ceiling should be sound proofed. Wifi keptdropping out.
Review 81:The hotel was very central, quiet even though on main road, staff veryvery pleasant and friendly. All internal and externalsitting/eating/lounge areas very homely and inviting, typicallyof an English place. Very inviting.
Review 82:After a long journey through France this place was a diamond in the sky very helpful even asked restaurant to remain open a little longer so we could get a meal after arriving late.
Review 83:Difficult to find the hotel as no street number was in the address and visibility was confusing as a different view of the hotel is shown in the advertisement than that of the street view. Rooms need renovation and bleach to counteract odours. Fire alarm went off twice during the night, but there was no staff ensuring the safely and comfort of the guests. There was no explanation unless one asked, no apology for inconvenience. There was a serious lack of safety and care for guests and a lack of trained staff to manage an emergency.
Review 84:Close proximity to Canterbury and to the Eurotunnel.
Review 85:- The person whom we met reception when we checked in was really not at all friendly and helpful - The rooms are not at all well-insulated and, as a result, it was very noisy -
Review 86:+ Good location, Pub/restaurant part of hotel, Italian restaruant nearby. + Young staff member provided an early breakfast for us.
Review 87:The room was a little worn and units a bit dated. Had a room next to the air conditioning unit so was a bit annoying.
Review 88:The staff were brilliant and the food was top notch. They were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 89:Didn't sleep at all. Room above was very noisy and heard creaking floorboards every few minutes, day and night. I stayed in room 21.
Review 90:Good food, lovely girl on reception and bar, friendly and helpful. Nice beer garden area
Review 91:the plumbing is terrible, the toilet flush didn't work well. the pillows are very uncomfortable and do not provide any support. room was very hot and stuffy, window was only allowed to open a couple of inches, so we hardly had any air coming in.
Review 92:the breakfast was tasty.
Review 93:We didn't arrive in hotel until quite late on and were staying at the hotel as a stop over on the way back from France. We dropped or bags and went straight into the bat for something to eat before they stopped serving. The girl behind the bar hardly made an effort to be friendly to a weary traveller and think her face would have cracked if she ever broke into a smile. Food was disappointing, nachos with pulled pork with hardly any pulled pork that were too dry. At breakfast they were far too short staffed, the two waiters were rushed off their feet's and it took a while to take our orders and five of us had to squeeze round a table set for 4.
Review 94:Hotel were very dog friendly and let us take the dogs in with us for breakfast. Also the grounds were lovely and were able to take dogs good walks in the evening and morning before we left.
Review 95:We did not have any bad experiences while staying here.
Review 96:Charming hotel with helpful staff. Facilities were dated but functionable.Great position to access Canterbury and surrounds. Would'nt hesitate to stay here again.
Review 97:Road noise very loud so window shut, no air con so very hot plus uncomfortable bed. Result poor nights sleep before long journey in France!
Review 98:Staff friendly good restaurant and very good cooked breakfast.
Review 99:Location, next to main road had a few noisy times. Air con unit outside window was noisy and hot! Yet we couldn't get the benefit of A/c in our room!
Review 100:Room, Facilities & Staff, both Hotel & Bar great. Breakfast Excellent, as were the serving staff.
Review 101:Rooms are not child friendly, stayed on first floor and window opens wide enough for a child to fall out of and no inside lock on room door so children can let themselves out.
Review 102:Friendly staff and was helpful with the room change as the first room we were booked into didn't have cold water it was a choice of scalding only and the carpet was soaking wet.
Review 103:Booked a double room, was given a twin - requested move which was accommodated. Cooked breakfast was awful; overcooked poached eggs, no toast, had to wait 20 mins before they took my order, only 2 staff on but restaurant was nowhere near full, and staff were prioritising clearing tables before taking orders.
Review 104:Size of room very good
Review 105:could not get WiFi even the staff could not get it, usually you are just given a number or code , but was told open a cloud account and set a pass word ? to get WiFi
Review 106:Friendly Hotel , clean , enjoyed the stay
Review 107:We were heading to Dover from Wales and didn't want to stay in the middle of Dover. This was a perfect hotel for what we needed. Hotel is in a perfect location between Dover, Leeds, and Canterbury. If we go back to the area, we will definitely stay here again. Hotel room was very clean and large. We stayed in the family room, 1 full bed and 1 twin. Bed were ok. Staff were extremely friendly. Hotel has a bar and restaurant. Free breakfast in the morning was very good.
Review 108:Bathroom needs updating. Room could have been cleaner but also needs updating so that probably didn't help. Still very good though.
Review 109:Welcoming and excellent food.
Review 110:the food was average the service was ok - seemed under pressure in bar and restaurant - nice enough but forgot wine, limes in gin and tonics etc. bread was rock solid for dinner
Review 111:the location on route to channel tunnel dog friendly next to park for the dog
Review 112:no complaints overall but if I was pushed to say something negative it would be the springy bed (but that's a preference thing) and breakfast wasn't great, I chose smoked mackeral and poached eggs instead of full english - so my own fault!!
Review 113:spacious room and bathroom, nice decor, garden view, wifi
Review 114:I checked in with another person who booked a single room (like me) last minute and the receptionist swapped our keys, so I got a "last minute room" on the ground floor next to the stairway, so every night I had people going up and down untill late behind the wall next to my bed. I booked my room in advance and I think it was just not fair ending up in a worse accommodation where I struggled to sleep, considering I was on a business trip.
Review 115:Great internet connection, wonderful English Breakfast included.
Review 116:the receptionist was so friendly/ nice I was unable to be cross about the fact the cost was MORE than it said on my booking form.... she explained it must have been the website left out the VAT..... The room was good the food was excellent and the surroundings good. much better than the budget hotel i had 'thought' it was the same price as... but overall glad I was mistaken.
Review 117:Very busy night when we were there. Staff appeared run off their feet and it took a while to be served at dinner and breakfast.
Review 118:Good food, comfortable clean room, location suited our overnight stay.
Review 119:It's sad to see such young staff rushed off there feet I need a sleep just watching them.i think something major needs to happen to the bathroom like skip it and start again and breakfast time is a weird affair so many tables sit empty as not all tables are used you form a line like waiting for a bus very odd
Review 120:staff are very nice the pub side is lovely food very nice Garden is lovely pleasure to sit in the sun .room is okay breakfast very good
Review 121:Paying on check in! ( feel untrusted) Shower could have better pressure No cash point(cash back is avaliable behind bar)
Review 122:>Great Breakfast >Free wifi >Bar >Comfortable room
Review 123:A leader seemed to be stressing out when there was no need causing the staff distress. Lead by calm example. Some other guests were a miserable bunch who just moaned about everything possible!!
Review 124:The staff were amazing and really professional in their work.
Review 125:The bed could have been more comfortable and a small fridge in the room could have been useful.
Review 126:Happy, helpful and friendly staff. great breakfast and yummy dinners. Nice large bath!
Review 127:My room was adjacent to the road and it was so noisy! Hot night so had to open window but it was in such a bad state I genuinely feared it was going to fall out. Unbelievably hot in the room, pillows and quilt felt like they had a plastic layer, really uncomfortable and terrible nights sleep. However breakfast was where this hotel truly surpassed itself - every unused table had dirty crockery on it, not a single member of staff in sight. I found a table where one setting was untouched. Someone did appear and took my order for toast and coffee - when it arrived there was no butter on my table, so I was given a butter dish from an uncleared table, where the butter had been used!!!! I was too stunned to even comment! When I left the breakfast area, 3members of staff were chatting at the bar!! Meanwhile none of the tables were being cleared! On check out I wasn't asked if everything had been ok (how rude!) and two members of staff sat talking to each other as if I disntvexist. As I went to walk out I said goodbye and they were too busy talking to even have the courtesy to say goodbye! I have stayed here 3-4 times in recent months, never been overly impressed but was ok and conveniently located. After this experience I would rather stay further away!!! Seriously poorly trained staff with absolutely no manners!
Review 128:The muesli!
Review 129:Shower was useless (though looked very nice) other people I travelled with didn't have this problem. Breakfast and checkout were slow.
Review 130:Wasn't expecting the hotel to be so well appointed, nice rooms, comfy bed, great pub and garden. Food in the restaurant also good, nice atmosphere.
Review 131:No soundproofing so could hear people walking around, closing doors etc all night. Breakfast wasn't great, toast was stone cold and coffee was weak.
Review 132:Staff were friendly.
Review 133:The bathroom in the room was abit tired. Also very old building so creaky floorboards buts that's being very picky. Lol.
Review 134:It was very enjoyable stay. Very clean hotel.
