Reviews for The Peacock Townhouse Hotel Kenilworth - Warwick

Review 1:the room had no heating other than two temporary heaters. one with a damaged foot and neither working prior to arrival so the room was cold and remained so for most of the evening. the bath would benefit from a 'plug' however the shower is separate and works well. I would have preferred paying for everything once in the morning and not on arrival. Additional cost over and above the accommodation therefore generates a separate invoice.

Review 2:Easy booking in process, remember that if you have a car there is an additional £5.00 parking fee. handy for the pub across the road. the Hotel is close (by car) to Warwick and Leamington Spa. The room was large, and relatively well equipped, very clean with good furniture. the wifi connection was good (main house). comfortable seating area and bar and access to the onsite restaurant.

Review 3:Dirty room - thick dust, stains on carpet, rusty fixtures, dirty shower, no bedside lamp, dirty cups, narrow corridors resembling a maze, tatty decorating, questionable security.

Review 4:Easy to find

Review 5:Nothing major to report. As expected at this price and budget end of the market.

Review 6:Very warm and friendly welcome on check-in/out. For a single-night stay "does what it says on the tin"! Same standard and at a better value than the big chain hotels in the area.

Review 7:having to pay for parking (was told it was because the hotel room was cheaper than the chain up the road where they had free parking - I paid £51 +£5 parking, other hotel £62 and much better - I have stayed in it previously). A pokey little room with poor ventilation, single bed (I know a single room booked but expect a double bed these days - booking the room as for other hotels in chains). A very disappointing visit with little sleep as too hot and small bed.

Review 8:Location as I was attending an evening function in Kenilworth

Review 9:Staff are dismissive, you have to pay £5 per night to park (worked out additional £20 for us) the wifi was useless, the TV was continually 'glitchy'on all the channels that worked, the shower was little more than a trickle, the room was very small, over looking a moss covered flat roof directly facing a blank wall!

Review 10:Clean room, nicely decorated, shower gels/shampoo etc in room. Location is great

Review 11:Bed linen was clean but worn. Rooms could do with updating.

Review 12:The staff were very friendly, my room was nice and warm on a cold November day, nice breakfast. Hotel was very clean.

Review 13:The bathroom the show head was tiny and water wasn't very hot And sometimes you could hear upstairs moving around

Review 14:The staff members seemed friendly The room we was in was a good size and the bed was average

Review 15:Large, clean room. i stayed in an Annex away from the main road. Speedy wifi (15MB/s in my room). Helpful staff. On the bus route to / from Warwick Uni and Coventry Station. Good deal on a curry and a drink.

Review 16:Local busses only accept exact change which isn't advertised on the bus stops, bit annoying. Not the hotels fault but something to look out for.

Review 17:Lovely bathroom. Very comfy bed. Nice place. Friendly staff. Great breakfast

Review 18:Our room was very small, with nowhere to put things down, even in the bathroom The temperature in the room was excessive and uncomfortable.Even in November we had to have the window wide open all night. When this was mentioned to staff next morning we were told, yes that room is very hot it is next to the boiler! No food or drinks available on Sunday evening even though there were menus for the restaurant and lounge bar no mention of this was made on either.

Review 19:The two members of staff who were both very pleasant and helpful.

Review 20:£3.30 for a half of diet coke with the meal. That was outrageous. The decor was a little tired and outdated and the shower was slow.

Review 21:The central location in Kenilworth. The staff were very pleasant and very helpful. The wifi was free. The bed was comfortable and room was quiet.

Review 22:My room 204 was rather cold on arrival. I switched on the smaller of the 2 electric radiators as the larger one wasn't working. I did ask for this to be remedied but it didn't get done.Although my room was a superior room and was very spacious, little elements such as a smashed bath panel in what otherwise is a lovely bathroom, lights starting to hang out of the ceiling, no mirror near the fixed hairdryer to see what you're doing.

Review 23:Marcia was very chatty and friendly. Very important for a single traveller to have someone to pass the time of day with.

Review 24:Staff were amazing, very helpful and catered for everyneed. Room was very large, which was great when travelling with a 5 month old. Breakfast was fantastic both days.

Review 25:Had to pay 5 pounds to park the car which I thought was ridiculous .Was told breakfast included then later told it wasnt .Room quite small for a double .

Review 26:Clean .

Review 27:No shower in the morning or cold water. Low water pressure when busy apparently. If there is a problem get it fixed.

Review 28:Staff friendly. Food ok breakfast a bit cold.

Review 29:Felt it was a little on the expensive side Hallway was warmer than the room Tip - Could do with decorative voile on the 4 poster bed to make it look more appealing & tv updating! Tv wasn't in a good spot as couldn't see it properly because of one of the posts on the bed

Review 30:staff very helpful Breakfast was lovely with lots of choice Location was perfect

Review 31:My room was far from"luxuriously furnished" as stated on the hotel website with furniture resembling early MFI. When water was just out of the sink dirty gunky water backwashed up through the shower drain. Reported to reception so I hope this is dealt with as the shower smelled a bit.

Review 32:Convenient for restaurants and town centre. Comfortable bed. Adequate for two nights. Helpful staff.

Review 33:Where to start - the room smelled like a taxi cab air-freshener, the ceramic tile into the bathroom was broken, so nearly cut my foot, exorbitant car parking fees for residents £5 per night, shoddy decor - peeling wall paper. Over priced tired and a bit of a rabbit warren on trying to leave the building with no reception signage. Room service incurs a levy PLUS service charge. Would I stay there again - most definitely not.

Review 34:not a lot

Review 35:Very tired feeling buildings and fittings. Creaky floor upstairs woke me in the night. Poor breakfast - quite how scrambled eggs on toast could be so dry and unappetising is beyond me. Curtains difficult to draw in my room that must have been converted from its previous use as titled on the door - 'Boardroom'. Uneven and loose tiles in the courtyard - watch your ankles

Review 36:There was a kettle and ample biscuits

Review 37:Nothing it was great!

Review 38:The location was great...and considering on a main road it was lovely and quiet. Bed was very comfy (apart from being two singles pushed together), breakfast was yummy....and all the staff were super friendly! Cannot fault The Peacock!

Review 39:No hot water. Ran all the taps for 10 mins. Told reception, who told me that they would inform maintenance for me. Thanks. Follow up email, ignored!

Review 40:Room seemed nice, comfortable.

Review 41:There was no hot water to the room although the shower worked. I reported it but nothing happened and they did not apologise just said " they were working on it" I was only there one night so it was not the end of the world to me. They charge £5 for parking - I struggle to see how they justify that

Review 42:The room was fine and the breakfast was good

Review 43:No hot water when I arrived and not informed about that at check-in. Did not enjoy the cold shower. Breakfast service poor, e.g. no coffee ready 30 minutes after service started. Some fittings in the room old and loose. Few clothes hangers in wardrobe. Its a shame, because if maintained properly the rooms would be very nice. Car park is very small with limited space.

Review 44:Well located in the centre of town, nice decorative style, decent free wifi.

Review 45:Seemed a bit penny-pinching charging £5 for parking when arriving, given car park next to hotel. Would have preferred £5 on the booking cost.

Review 46:We took the evening meal option, fantastic South Asian cuisine. Good breakfast as well. Staff were very friendly.

Review 47:Threatening notices in room about being charged large amounts if one smokes in the room. I know not to smoke and I don't need to feel threatened.

Review 48:The nice energetic woman who took breakfast - she was on the previous night too. I hope she gets enough sleep!

Review 49:Unfortunately there were a group of rowdy guests the night we stayed. Loud talking in the car park at 2am in the morning for an hour and doors being banged shut. The situation was not managed and continued until they went to sleep at 4am.

Review 50:Well located, reasonably priced, clean and comfortable room.

Review 51:A sticker was placed in our door card folder stating 20% of all food. Yet when it came to breakfast it suddenly meant only evening meals! The full english breakfast was exactly like the get up & go breakfast in ASDA for 1.95 only here they charge ten pounds. Our bathroom had a low ceiling which you would bump your head on in the shower. It's also five pounds extra per night to park your car.

Review 52:Clean room & bathroom. Tea/coffee facilities were a standard affair.

Review 53:Needs a lick of paint, maybe change the old furniture in the bar, lounge area. Also have another tv so you can see it from seating area.

Review 54:Friendly staff, lovely breakfast, good location. Bar stays open as long as you like! Would stay again.

Review 55:The awful smell when you walk in. The old dated room Curtains held on with staples! Shower screen is a health and safety issue You could hear every movement of the room above The whole place needs gutting! Window didn't shut properly They should just stick to being a restaurant! £5 to use car park-shocking! £5 for 2 tonic waters! Rip off!

Review 56:Staff were friendly

Review 57:There was nothing to dislike although the decor may not be everyone's cup of tea !

Review 58:Room was very clean and well apointed with integrated furnture which allowed a small space to feel perfectly suitable as an environment to both sleep and relax in .

Review 59:We had booked 2 double rooms for our family. Myself, my husband and two teenage boys. we were first allocated a small room which we were told was a double. We agreed to forgo that night and stay with friends until they could resolve the issue. We checked in on 8/30 and neither the sockets nor the heating in the room was working. We were informed because it was a British Summer so the heating was off. Mind you, it was raining and cold. After arguing all morning with the receptionist/day manager, we were moved to 3rd floor. We had no assistance moving our six suitcases on three flight of stairs. The next day, I was informed that either my children move to another room on another floor or we would be charged an additional pay £20 a night. The room could barely accommodate my 15 year old let alone both boys. They had to keep their suitcases in our room and dress there.

Review 60:The young lady who checked us in was very nice and tried to accommodate our needs.

Review 61:This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel and the breakfast was somewhat disappointing in comparison to last years.

Review 62:The room was fabulous and when we book for 2016 we really would very much like to book the same room.

Review 63:The reception area was unusually in the corner of the bar and so wasn't very private. However the receptionist was friendly and efficient.

Review 64:The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The restaurant was excellent with delicious food well served. Nothing was too much trouble! Highly recommended!

Review 65:Found bed too soft but remedied that by sleeping on top with throws. Didn't see need for car parking fees when hotel wasn't full. English dinner menu could have been more extensive, although was very good.p

Review 66:The accommodation was very clean ,staff very helpful and welcoming going out of their way to ensure our stay was a pleasant one.

Review 67:Paying £5 per day for a parking space, as the car park is within the grounds of the hotel.

Review 68:Friendly receptionist and staff, room was clean and had all that was needed. Food in the restaurant was very nice. Plenty of places to eat around the area if you didn't want an indian meal.

Review 69:Breakfast not included. Despite friendly attentive service the smell of BO from someone was off-putting for us and I am sure most other guests too. I am sure the staff will have sorted this out quickly though.

Review 70:Good family en-suite room, modern decor. Sister restaurant Malaysian quite good and 20% off bill

Review 71:A couple of drunk people in the room below made our night not so enjoyable but when we complained, staff intervened swiftly.

Review 72:Staff were very helpful.our family room was big (fitted an additional travel cot and still loads of space left).

Review 73:after someone moved into the room above, it got a bit loud as the walls are not too thick

Review 74:nice wellcome at breakfast which you could select from cooked English breakfast or a continental buffet

Review 75:Too much noise as people above walked about their room. This needs urgent attention. I am a good sleeper but it could be difficult for many. Presumably the same for all downstairs rooms. Scrambled eggs need improving!

Review 76:Friendly staff and lovely hot, hot water in the bathroom. Convenient dining.

Review 77:I did not like having to pay £5 (per car) to park in hotel carpark. Cooked breakfast was greasy and tasted of overused oil. Sausages were off. Continental breakfast choices were sparse and not readily available, like fresh fruit, coffee and bread for toaster.

Review 78:All expected amenities available for a basic hotel stay.

Review 79:Low water pressure in the showers. We were badly mislead by the call we received to confirm the booking which caused a dubious upgrade and extra cost for another room. Not professional

Review 80:Breakfast was good. Location was goid

Review 81:The Hotel was wonderful , however it was not Baby Ready , 1 x High Chair , so had to wait for quite some time on Saturday Morning for the Highchair to be freed up, keeping an 18 month old occupied for the waiting time was quite frustrating . The Parking was terrible , which l am aware in Kenilworth , however people had large vehicles and took 2 / 3 spaces , this isn't controlled so had problems parking and had to carry Grandson safely to room, Due to Fibromyalgia this became very difficult for me l came home not rested in more pain than l have been for a while . The room did not have cover over the main room door and Saturday night l had somebody trying to peep in and was quite disturbing .

Review 82:On Sunday the Staff in the Restaurant were prepared for my Grandson , they had bought Plastic utensils for him to use and the Gentleman on shift made him fee like a little prince , nothing was too Much. The Bed due to my condition is the best Bed l have slept in any Hotel for many years .

Review 83:The first single room given was like a cupboard. Very tiny and in need of improvements and TLC. Manager Changed the room without any hassle. This room was modern bright and newly refurbished

Review 84:Staff and breakfast lovely. Location great. Rooms very clean. Fresh towels each day and bed tidied and bathroom cleaned each day.

Review 85:£5 parking fee - Park at Sainsbury's or one of the side streets. Cost of breakfast - £10 for hotel Guests £7.99 after 10 am for anyone off the street.

Review 86:Has great on site restaurant - Definitely recommend. Staff are friendly and helpful

Review 87:The staff were friendly and accommodating. We asked for a fan as I had hay fever and couldn't have the window open and they brought one up. The hotel has a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. We wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Review 88:The pictures on the website do not reflect the Hotel itself. It is no longer a best western and is very tired and needs lots of attention. It felt very grubby.

Review 89:the four poster bedroom had no air-con or fan of any kind :( sleeping in a sauna comes to mind quite disappointed to have a room of that spec with no means of cooling room down apart from opening windows

Review 90:staff and location

Review 91:- the interior, especially in the room, was somewhat old and already on the "down-hill-side"

Review 92:- location of the hotel - good service - good breakfast - good value for your money

Review 93:Water pressure was very low, when you adjust the temperature it either too hot or nothing. Information leaflet on how to contact reception, ordering food or any other help detail were incorrect. I tried to ring reception or order food the number was constantly engaged tone. When I asked the guy on reception later at night then he stated the number are same but do not press * however leaflet say different thing. I would not go back to the hotel ever again.

Review 94:The shower never worked properly and was never fixed, despite reporting this on three occasions. The breakfast was very ordinary- eg one tiny sausage, burnt bacon, hard poached and boiled eggs.

Review 95:Comfortable bed and clean room

Review 96:The blind didn't close fully so the sun was very bright from very early. The bathroom had a strange smell Breakfast was pretty poor. A cheap(ish) hotel with little to recommend it.

Review 97:Nice town Easy to find Good parking but at a cost of £5

Review 98:One of the rooms booked had a nasty smell, when this was mentioned to staff they moved us to another room with no trouble

Review 99:at this hotel as it's handy for Stoneleigh, parking was easier this time round as there were less vehicles. Clean and tidy room although a few maintenance issues like broken curtains

Review 100:No bad experiences here I am happy to recommend.

Review 101:Thank you Kenilworth for making our stay so pleasant. When my fickle teens changed their plans almost constantly you accommodated our last minute switches with ease and a friendly manner.

Review 102:The breakfast could have been improved. And both TVs need attention 201 & Suite. Buzzing sound from one and very slow on the other.

Review 103:The receptionist and manager were friendly. They were kind enough to upgrade me after a complaint about the noise from above,

Review 104:Everytime i stay here there is usually something wrong with the room. In the past hot water has been a problem, this time no main lighting in the room. Also the fact you have to pay for parking!!

Review 105:Shower was temperamental in the morning going from hot to tepid and from high to low pressure. The bath was patched with ducting tape

Review 106:The meal at Raffles. Good choice of menu & the food was excellent.

Review 107:The bedroom was not the cleanest of places we have stayed, glass tops on the desk and bedside cabinets needing more cleaning. We were disappointed to see mould on the bathroom wall and that the shower did not work. In the hotel's defence, there may have been an issue with hot water that day, however, the shower didn't seem to work properly in cold water either. The breakfast menu was a bit too expensive for the quality of food, £7 would have been a better price as opposed to £10 being charged.

Review 108:The hotel was easy to find with good access from main roads. Although a small building, the hotel has a nice decor throughout Staff were friendly and polite and willing to assist customers.

Review 109:Twin bedded room, beds two narrow, not normal width for a single bed. Very disappointed with hotel policy of charging guests for overnight parking with no guarantee of a parking space.

Review 110:Very friendly and helpful staff, accomodation, clean and functional.

Review 111:Far too hot in the room and hall way had to turn it all off and the beds were uncomfortable and very narrow.

Review 112:Friendly staff, nice hotel and room, great location and good price.

Review 113:Beds were hard and pillows too thin. Really dislike being charged extra for parking - If I hadn't been exhausted when I booked in I would have parked nearby for free.

Review 114:Staff were pleasant and efficient. Great shower!

Review 115:registration process excellent able to depart at desired time next morning. Unable to get a meal in local restaurants Night staff provided excellent buffet. Very clean rooms. Would seriously consider using again.

Review 116:allocated a room but the beds had not been made up, so had to change room. Sister,s room was not as requested, even after phone to check. brothers room had blocked toilet !!

Review 117:Although clean the hotel is looking a little tired and worn both inside and out. Some refreshment and renovation wouldn't go amiss especially as the price is similar to other more quality hotels in the area.

Review 118:Location

Review 119:Used to do eggs benedict at breakfast - not on the menu this time - was looking forward to this. - No extra pillows in room.

Review 120:Nice warm room with bath.

Review 121:It was a shame it was raining as we got wet going from room to restaurant but that's nobody's fault! A short cut though the building to restaurant would be good!

Review 122:I liked the fact that being disabled we could park the car right near the room! Also the fact that they served in the restaurant until 10.30pm which was incredible for us after a nasty 3 hour sit on the A14

Review 123:Didn't like first room which was offered (too claustrophobic and no proper window or outlook) but second room , in a newer annex was much better but still showed various signs of overdue maintenance required.

Review 124:The staff were charming but I think they are struggling with premises which are in need of refurbishment.

Review 125:The heating did not work and the room was freezing when we arrived. They said they will try and find a person to solve the problem. We left our bags and went in search of a restaurant and some warmth. On our return (3-hours later), they managed to get one small heater working, the room was still uncomfortably cold. My husband complained but they seemed not concerned. Trying to run a hot bath to warm us up.....the hot water literally trickled...2 drops at a time. It would have taken us at least 40 minutes to get enough water to have a foot bath. We booked a family room ( 2 adults and a child), but they only gave us ONE towel!! I then went down to complain AGAIN!!, and then they decided to change our room. Moved us out of the main building to an annex(?). Also 1 x double bed, and 1 x single bed, but it was warm and much more comfortable. Shower had a gas-heater that worked well.

Review 126:the fact that they eventually decided that they will change our room!!

Review 127:Being charged £5.00 for parking, on the hotel's grounds. Tip park on road, ample parking. Socket hanging of the wall. Tea for one cup each.

Review 128:Position of hotel.

Review 129:no hot water for all a Sunday in December, the heating working too high or nothing, really bad manteinance service

Review 130:the staff was very friendly, the location, the hotel is easy to reach, also it has a restaurant inside. the room had a little independent kitchen, toilet was clean.

Review 131:Having to pay additional parking fee in private location.. not the norm.. not reimbursed for parking fee and told it had been.. no hot water in the morning for shower. Bed uncomfortable and rickety. I booked three deluxe rooms that did not live up to expectations

Review 132:Room sizes were good.. booked three rooms for one night.. breakfast was lovely.. happy chef and lots of food Staff were polite and courteous

Review 133:The noisy room.kitchen fan kept us awake although it was switched off after a call to reception" this happened on both nights of our stay. Staff seemed to be aware of the problem so why has it not been rectified.

Review 134:Closeness to town centre and friendly staff

Review 135:We had dinner in the restaurant, and found the portions to be far too big. (Unnecessarily so) My chilli con carne was served with rice and a large bowl of chips. My wife's lasagne (?) came with toast and a large bowl of chips.

Review 136:Every member of staff that we had contact with did their job extremely well and were very pleasant.

Review 137:Very hot everywhere in the hotel and had to leave the windows open.Noisy as lots of creaking floorboards so people above us seemed to be constantly moving backwards and forwards. No free parking,it cost 5GBP/day

Review 138:Breakfast included

Review 139:Room extremely small and cramped to be billed a double- a decent sized single at best. Shower did not provide hot water.. Finally not very clear, when booking, that the hotel charges £5 per night for parking! Info is buried in the admin print below the room rate data which is in much larger typeface!

Review 140:Rooms and facilities very clean. Staff friendly, good location. Decent in room facilities eg Tea/coffee etc.

Review 141:I drove passed it; the restaurant name was more prominent than the hotel name. I booked on-line; the £5 car park charge was a surprise (but I can see the reason). The bed 'rocked' as the base had broken. While this did not spoil sleep, it was a bit disconcerting. I could not turn off the sub-titles on the TV, so I switched it off and went to sleep.

Review 142:Convenient for my purpose. Friendly, cheerful, helpful staff. Car parking availability. Adequate breakfast arrangements. Quiet.
