Reviews for The Scot House Hotel

Review 1:we were booked in for 4 nights 31st dec 1st ,2nd and 3rd January our first evening was great but next day we went for breakfast at arranged time 10.00 to be greeted by a young waiter who looked about 16 - 17years old he said we were not booked for breakfast I assured him we were , there was no table set for us so he attempted to set a table as there were other people waiting for breakfast he had to attend to them as well , he gave us a menu witch stated we could help ourselves to juice, cereal and a hot breakfast as there was no cereal bowls or glasses and no sign of any hot food this was impossible all the people in dinning room were complaining , eventually the young boy came with the juice and glasses and said we could have a full Scottish breakfast , by this time we were wondering if there was anybody in the kitchen to cook it . Eventually we got our breakfast witch was disgusting it was cold and the sausages were off nobody in the dining room could eat it we asked to speak to someone in charge to be told no one else would be in till after 2pm it was a complete shambles we all left the dining room hungry and angry we left the hotel on the 2nd two days before we intended too . This is third time I have booked through booking.com and they have all been a disaster so please please don't send me any e-mails .

Review 2:We stayed on the 1st floor in room 1. The bar downstairs is very nice, but also very noisy. Unfortunately you can hear almost everything on the first floor; the music and the people talking. Lasts till 24.00. Ask for a room on a higher level if you wish for a quiet room.

Review 3:A beautiful old building with a lot of character, very friendly staff and a very comfortable, spacious room!

Review 4:We had to pass the public toilets to go upstairs to our rooms and the place smelled of urine, very off putting. We had dinner one night which was adequate, they did say home made bread with the soup but it was more like old bread about to go stale. Place just needs a good fresh paint and and some air freshner for all round appearance.

Review 5:Staff were very friendly. Very comfortable beds and rooms and toilet was clean. Hotel looked lovely from the outside. Very quiet and peaceful.

Review 6:My partner and I stayed for one night at The Scot House Hotel on Friday 11th September for bed and breakfast. The room was nice and comfortable, but that was the only good experience. When we went down to the bar for a drink before turning in, there were what looked like a number of very drunk and foul mouthed locals there drinking. We just sat for about 10 mins and then took our drinks up to our room. As for breakfast and checking out…….. Well, neither happened as the Manager of The Scot House Hotel slept in until after 8.30 (which is when we left so we have no idea what time he actually surfaced). Therefore, there was no one was available to open the doors to the dining room and reception, also as it was the chef’s day off the Manager was supposed to be making the breakfast for the guests, which of course we didn’t get (and hopefully not charged for). There was a member of staff there, who was lovely and she tried her best to be helpful, but she couldn’t access the area as the doors were locked and she didn’t have a key. She tried a number of times to ring the Manager but there was no response, she also went to knock on his door as he lived onsite, but again there was no response. 4 ladies and ourselves had to leave without our breakfast and we had to leave without checking out. I certainly wouldn’t stay there again or recommend anyone else stay there

Review 7:the room was comfortable although the bathroom floor was lethal, even with shoes

Review 8:Lounge and bar needs upgrade, hopefully the friendly new owner will make something nice of it!

Review 9:Very nice big room and bathroom with jacuzzi, nice area for hiking. The new owner has started refurbishing the place.

Review 10:On arrival, we found that the Restaurant was not in use. We had not been informed of this. We fortunately found a Pub and Restaurant just up the road. Both served very good food, excellent-sized portions', and reasonably- priced as well. We were lucky, that they were both within in walking distance!

Review 11:Breakfasts' cooked by George. Made up for light-bulbs' not working and having not been replaced! Also needs' redecorating and updating! Also, in our room, one window had been painted-over, so could not be opened! Thus stopping an extra flow of air into the room. Also if there was a fire, this window could be vital, especially if access to the stairs', was not possible.

Review 12:The staff and service were wonderful. The new management were just in and you could feel that they were running to keep up but they seem great and we enjoyed our stay.

Review 13:We had a huge room with ensuite and it was good to have a couple of armchairs & small table, plus a desk. It is being refurbished by the new owner apparently.

Review 14:Wifi only available in reception area. Never able to log on. Went to a local pub and used theirs.

Review 15:Size of room, friendly host, nice quiet town not far from Inverness.

Review 16:Could have been cleaner and the whole place needs a bit of love. However, it had just been taken over the day before, and I'd be keen to see improvements on our next visit.

Review 17:Welcoming and helpful staff. Room was nice enough for the price.

Review 18:It made all the difference to our stay to find helpful, friendly folk who went out of their way to assist us. Locals we met in the bar were also very welcoming. Just sorry we couldn't stay longer

Review 19:Wifi is intermittent, only available from the bar.

Review 20:Very friendly staff, beautiful room in ok'd traditional house hotel. Friendly locals in typical Scottish bar, loved the experience and definitely recommend.

Review 21:No bad experience but this place needs a tidy up, the grounds are dreadful and the house is a bit shabby. It seems as if nothing has been done to it for the last 10 or 15 years. Investment needed.

Review 22:Very comfortable bed. Good shower.

Review 23:There was a smell between our room and bathroom which was trying to be masked with room freshener which made it worse. Heated towel rail did not work. Television only had channel 4. We booked king size room expecting a lot more. No meals at night cause it was a Sunday had to go to other hotel for dinner (which was lovely and better looking hotel unfortunately.)

Review 24:Staff very friendly. Bar Lounge and Diningroom lovely.

Review 25:Poorly cleaned room, damp smell, dreadful breakfast. Loud inebriated and swearing locals in bar during the evening.

Review 26:Location. Manager very friendly and helpfu

Review 27:Could do with a bit of upgrading in places - new kettle, tv was rather tiny & water damage on mini hall ceiling.

Review 28:Friendly staff. Handy for the train station and places to eat & drink. Room/bathroom are very spacious.

Review 29:One thing & only one was the bed? It was a bit hard, apart from that 10/10

Review 30:Staff were very helpful & very kind willing to pass on local information on fishing enjoyed my stay was a clean room with up to date bathroom would stay again no problem

Review 31:Hall and stairs were in need of redecoration and smelled a bit stale but room was perfect.

Review 32:We booked a family room and it was lovely, friendly staff and good parking

Review 33:Bathroom very small and misleading from internet pictures and very mouldy, in need of a good clean Too many cobwebs hanging from the ceiling

Review 34:The size of the room, the breakfast and friendly staff

Review 35:Room was colder than others we stayed in this winter, wifi non existent. Both issues were easy to cope with, though :).

Review 36:The gentleman who ran the hotel was a dear and the location was quiet and gorgeous. Great breakfast and good location if you have a car.

Review 37:I was staying there in January and I wanted to stay in Aviemore but it was packed so hence the poor rating for location. If you wanted to do something else the location may be fine. Breakfast extra cost.

Review 38:The staff cleared snow to the car and offered to sweep the snow off the car. Lots of channels on TV as nothing else to do in this village at this time of year. Cleanliness was fine except that a couple of bits of paper etc from previous guest had been left in the room.

Review 39:The cold tap didn't run well and took ages to fill the kettle.

Review 40:It was sub zero outside and the owner had put an extra heater in the rooms to make them cosy.

Review 41:The lady in the office was casual and not helpful in the least when my sister needed help with her bags.

Review 42:We appreciated the spacious and beautifully furnished rooms, with high ceilings and feeling of comfort. The manager himself served breakfast and was most helpful.

Review 43:Cleanliness is not the best that I had ever seen but it is nearly acceptable, especially if you don't move any forniture.

Review 44:The hotel is pretty good for his category. The owner is very friendly and helpful, it is positioned in the very small town of Kingussie and you can walk throughout it in 10 minutes, there are a couple of places where you can eat and one supermarket too. We had a dinner too and it was very good and tastful, quite cheap overall. Wi-Fi worked in reception and on the 1st floor, but it doesn't work on the 2nd floor where we had our room. Overall, I'll go back to the hotel if I need an hotel in that area.

Review 45:it is run on a shoestring and could do with a good spring clean. basic, basic, basic.

Review 46:A veryfriendly guy that runs this hotel but it but seems that he does everything by himself

Review 47:Gardens unkept and untidy people smoking right outside door. paint peeling off bedroom and bathroom big stain on bedroom carpet covered up with rug. There was also a musty smell. Would rate 1star.

Review 79:Location Jacuzzi tub Large room

Review 80:TV didn't work, and it was ancient, I threw out something like it 20 yrs ago!!!

Review 81:Friendyness. Hell with further arrangements

Review 95:It was near to the cairngorms and very reasonably priced and the Manager was very helpful and friendly

Review 96:Quite noisy in bedroom with traffic.

Review 105:Location ideal for journey to North Scotland as we used it. Service excellent

Review 106:Toilet seat started to decay.

Review 107:The televisions and radio were very old and clearly need replaced. The shower curtain was black with mould. The wifi did not work.

Review 108:Good size rooms

Review 109:unadventurous bar food no choice of wholemeal toast at breakfast, some interior décor needs refurbishment

Review 110:good size room comfortable bed, spa bath

Review 111:Probably could do with modernising a little, but I think the proprietors are going to do this.

Review 112:Lovely staff, who were welcoming and friendly. Great room; clean and well-appointed. Gorgeous bathroom.

Review 113:The wallpaper was falling off the wall and dirty marks everywhere on it. The shower head was black with mould. The windowsills were black with dampness. The extractor fan in bathroom was full of dust. The bed was uncomfortable.

Review 114:rooms need a makeover, breakfast limited in choice

Review 115:nice location in kingussie, a few minutes walk from station and high street. pleasant lounge and bar area

Review 116:The bath panel and shower were broken, the "king size bed" was 2 singles pushed together, the furniture was stained and tatty and the photos on the booking website were hugely misleading, as they were 360 panoramas that made the rooms look much larger than they were

Review 117:The manager was quite helpful, but was unable to offer us a room and refused to give us a discount even though the room was sub standard

Review 118:The hotel is in serious need of upgrading. Furniture is very dated and a showing wear and tear. Overall a pleasant place for a night but some money needs to be spent to bring this hotel to a good standard.

Review 119:Manager is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are huge. Location is perfect

Review 120:A double room was what was booked but it was not made clear that it was two twin beds pushed together!! Woke in the night to a loud thud and discovered my boyfriend on the floor between the beds. Disappointed. Not a good nights sleep! Were attending a bbq at local house, along with a lot of others who were staying in the surrounding B&Bs. In fact our friends stayed with you also and seemed to get a far better deal for their family of 4, incl breakfast for £85! We were £70 for a double (twin!!) room with no breakfast. Disappointed. Sorry but next year will be looking for a better deal elsewhere.

Review 121:Found it difficult to work the TV with instructions but staff were extremely helpful.

Review 122:The pub atmosphere with the locals., especially Hamish from the nearby retirement home. The beautiful period decore. Local restaurant recommendation.
