Reviews for The Fitzwilliam Arms Hotel

Review 1:Our bathroom sink was a tiny closet sink and there wasn't a shelf or surface to put a wash bag on.

Review 2:Whilst not quite Buckingham palace, this value hotel is clean and homely and has an unintentionally quirky retro feel. The staff are of an especially helpful and cheery disposition and the bar/restaurant has a relaxing ambiance overseen by a curious statue of Pig Yoda. The lovely lady chef actually came out of the kitchen to check that we hadn't been afflicted with some malady of the brain in our request to omit chips from our meal, and offered a plethora of potato based alternatives to ensure we met our starchy quota for the day. Foods are basic but good (and so cheap!) Puddings were fabulous. Rooms were sparse, but clean and warm, bed was comfy and complete with tea facilities.

Review 3:It was very noisey with the road and we had lights shining through the curtains and we paid for a double bed and got to single beds put together which was very unplesent.

Review 4:The location is good

Review 5:Tv way to small, need a hairdryer. Break fast could have been larger husband was expecting a good old Yorkshire brekkie

Review 6:It is what it is. A value hotel but friendly and comfortable, easy to park and access to local amenities. Entertainment fab made welcome

Review 7:Breakfast wasn't served long enough.and have trouble filling kettle as doesn't fit in sink to fill up with water.

Review 8:Good clean room and very pleasent staff

Review 9:Woken up early with roadworks, which , of course, were not hotels responsibility.

Review 10:Cheap and cheerful. It was clean and comfortable. All that we needed for an overnight stay.

Review 11:This was an absolute bargain. The room was clean and comfortable. Ideal if going to Sheffield Arena. You can save yourself £80+ by booking here instead of Sheffield, and taking the 5 minute journey. Nice Chinese opposite.

Review 12:We would have appreciated a heads up about a wedding on that day, because my gf remained in the hotel while i was away and the sound of the reception was loud and clear to hear in the room. Earplugs would have helped but we weren't prepared

Review 13:The location was perfectly situated near the place where a stagnight was planned. So a win win for me there

Review 14:The security guard would not let a friend of mine sleep in my room and was forced to sleep in his car! When it clearly stated on the booking confirmation I was allowed 2 guests. Not good

Review 15:This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel as we have family in the Rotherham area, Twice out of the three times we have been disturbed by the noise from a wedding in the function room. We feel we should have been warned and then we could have asked for a room away from the noise.

Review 16:~The room was clean and comfortable. We ordered breakfast which was good value for money.

Review 17:Excellent shower and nice room was made very welcome

Review 18:Excellent I was treated very well and made me feel welcome room nice excellent shower was quet where I was even no hear wedding party down staires

Review 19:To get to the rooms it was necessary to go through the public bar, unless you wanted to go a long way round. We arrived on a Saturday and the restaurant was closed-apparently there is no way of getting an evening meal ,of which we had not been made aware.Anywhere other than local takeaways was some distance away.

Review 20:The room was clean and comfortable

Review 21:The whole night was ruined due to ridiculously loud music, couldn't sleep. Finally dropped off to sleep then me and my girlfriend were woken up by the fire alarm and had to stand outside in shorts for 40minutes.

Review 22:Previous reviews have noted this can be a noisy venue. I asked for a 1st floor room, but ended up above the Function Room which had a Quiz Night on the Fri & a Disco on the Sat. 1st night I was woken up by a very noisy argument from the occupants of the next room. I assume they were finally ejected by the Night Porter. The 2nd night started off with a genuine Fire Alarm and we were kept outside (in the cold) until the fire was dealt with, etc. There was no interaction between the Hotel staff & most of the visitors/guests for this 50 mins period. Later I was woken again by a guest trying to obtain entry to his room after the bar closed at 01:00AM, and the Night Porter had to open the door to stop the increasingly noisy knocking, etc. If your visit is over the weekend (Fri - Sun night inc.) I would recommend staying elsewhere.

Review 23:Room was clean & bedding/towels changed daily. Breakfast is good value.

Review 24:not a bad experience, but the location is on a main road in an industrial area. It was perfect for me as IO wa just passing through. the front room might have been noisy, but everything was fine. I seem to recall a strong smell of cooking oil e.g. for chips as I came in at 9pm, so some ventilation in kitchen might help.. but this is a minor matter.

Review 25:nice clean tidy single room for a brief overnight stay. Plenty of electric sockets. Lots of milk pots for tea and coffee. Shower towels etc were fine. basiuc room at a good price.I would stay again..i did not have breakfast as I weas leaving early

Review 26:Being too close to wedding party karaoke and door to stairway so heard everything. Kitchen fan going on at 7am sounded like a generator thundering above my head. Got 4hrs sleep then had a 5hr drive home

Review 27:Checking out

Review 28:Inadequate wifi. This is a functional hotel and the least it can offer is good wifi to all rooms. On a busy evening wifi was non-existent outside of the crowded bar area and poor within it.

Review 29:Helpful staff. On a Saturday there was a wedding reception and a karaoke night which helped the atmosphere but didn't disturb the guests.

Review 30:To noisy as party ended at 1.30am when it should of been midnight....

Review 31:Breakfast was nice although a bit confused as it's says pay at reception for it?? Then on the Sunday were told same but booked b&b which includes breakfast!!

Review 32:The bar area was full of swearing work men. Who made no effort to curb their language even though women were present.

Review 33:Location to to Town center was reasonable. The staff were friendly and helpfull

Review 34:There was music in the bar until midnight which is fine if you want to join in but having driven a long way I needed some sleep. My romm was very noisy. Then the 'night porter' had either the radio or TV on which I could clearly hear . Carpet in bedroom needed changing as it was pretty grubby.

Review 35:Comfortable bed

Review 36:Receptionist giving another couple our room which resulted in them walking in on us at 7.50 in the morning

Review 37:Atmosphere in bar area friendly people friendly bar staff

Review 38:Very good value. Staff v friendly. Easy free parking. Nice bar. Need to ensure staff at reception for checkout as I had to leave card having rang bell 4 times no answer.

Review 39:The pillows weren't to my taste, however that is just a matter of opinion as my partner thought they were fab

Review 40:A friend of mine got married in the hotel. Staff were lovely, the wedding was beautiful. We has an overall good stay.

Review 41:No skimmed milk in rooms and kettle was hard to fill upwith water as kettle don't fit up bathroom sink .would be better it a large bottle off water was put in rooms.

Review 42:Very polite staff good position from where we was visting

Review 43:No showering cosmetics gel shampoo. We were told Asda was next to the hotel for essentials essentials. We had requested 2 rooms next to each other. We were put in 2 separate parts of the hotel. The bathroom was very small. Especially the shower cubical.

Review 44:The food was very good and reasonable good value for money The location was close to all transport networks. It was very clean . The room was a good size and we'll laid out. The bed was comfortable

Review 45:I asked for a room with a double bed and for a higher room. I didn't get that.

Review 46:The rooms were clean and it was a very nice place for me and my boyfriend to stay.

Review 47:Staff very polite and helpful. The breakfast was very nice and good value for money. The room was spacious,a little dated but apart from stains on the carpet (but you have to expect this it is an hotel) overall clean.

Review 48:The location seemed out of the way but was only there for one night so suited our purpose .

Review 49:Rooms clean and fresh, staff very pleasant and good value for money .

Review 50:shower cut out due to flooding incident. same incident shorted electric in bar and brought ceiling down. Staff coped well though and got it sorted quickly.

Review 51:Friendly & helpful staff

Review 52:The manner of the people who was supposed to be friendly was nothing nothing of the kind our friend asked if we could have a drink he was very firmly told no the bar is closed no extra pillows in the room I would rate this as a very basic room by the way all of the hotels we have stayed in b4 have always had bar service.

Review 53:The room was clean but that was all I can say about this stay

Review 54:The hotel is on an industrial estate so not prettiest of locations, the walls were flimsy and hearing a neighbours intimate goings-on in the night was off putting.

Review 55:Staff friendly

Review 56:Just a little noise above the bar but that stops at 10pm. Did get told that when you book you can ask for rooms away from the bar area which was helpfull.

Review 57:Service Spacious rooms Nice bar area Good choice of TV channels in room Clean and tidy Breakfast

Review 58:The room looked nothing like it did in the pictures, I expected the room to be a bit better for a superior double room.

Review 59:The staff were very friendly and helpful!

Review 60:They advise that hotel holds functions so expect some noise, what they do not tell you is that it will sound like the karaoke DJ is in your room with you!! Extremely noisy and loud. Also they stop serving food at 2pm at the weekends and there is not a lot around there to eat.

Review 61:nice spacious rooms

Review 62:Very small flat screen TV. Leaking shower screen doors.

Review 63:The hotel staff are polite friendly and very helpful. Easy to get to from the M1, ample parking. The rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable. The bar area is pleasant and clean. The breakfast was extra and is worth the cost.

Review 64:No info about Wi-Fi password, and because we booked in after reception had closed nobody to ask. Rather loud quiz night, didn't help being in room over the bar. But did end promptly. TV a bit small.

Review 65:No fuss booking in, friendly staff, clean comfy room, good shower and breakfast.

Review 66:Towels did not match, no toilet roll holder and bag of rubbish left from previous evening had been left in the room.not enough coffee. Satchets

Review 67:Friendly staff, reasonable bar tariff, location

Review 68:The room was clean and the shower although in good working order the shower head was encrusted in hard water residue. This is not so much a negative it is unsightly.

Review 69:The bed was awful, fell out of it a few times and woke up with a sore back. Would recommend a double room.

Review 70:Location was close to where my course was held.

Review 71:I personally didn't like the beds but they can't please everybody's preferences to the matresses.

Review 72:The check in was quick and very helpful with all enquiries. The rooms are great value for money.

Review 73:Tv controls didnt work we were brought another but that didnt work either. Trouble with door key couldnt open room staff let us in room and took key to recharge resulting with us no lights husband had to eventually go down to retrieve as it was dark think she was busy with other residents

Review 74:Ease of booking in Friendly staff Free internet in bar Warm room Price Request for quiet room honoured

Review 75:Advertised free wifi I was told I get one hour free per day. There was a big hole in the ceiling of room 15 and cigarette burns on the window ledge and pain. The towels were rock hard and the cubicle was greasy with old shower gel. The bed was Rock solid and very uncomfortable.

Review 76:Friendly staff, good location, you get what you pay for.

Review 77:Was in room 11. Next to the door leading to the stair way ! Every time some one went in or out you could hear it close !

Review 78:Friendly staff. Every where was clean and tidy. Lovely Breakfast.

Review 79:To be honest, the only thing that felt a bit strange was having to walk through the bar to get upstairs to my room but that's a very minor thing.

Review 80:Friendly staff, cosy room which was warm and comfortable, the whole place had a nice atmosphere when I stayed there. I would go there again.

Review 81:The hotel had an extremely noisy party and wedding. The music made the bedroom windows pound and went on until midnight. The reception closes early. There was rubbish just under the edge of the bed and the bed springs could be felt even with a topper on it. Would never stay here again.

Review 82:The location. The bar during the day when quiet.

Review 83:It was noisy as explained on their website also I feel no food on sat evenings wasn't highlighted on the website so we were not aware until seven o'clock that evening and being two older ladies not wishing to travel on a winter evening was very inconvenient however the staff were helpful generally.

Review 84:I booked the executive room got a booking reference and confirmation of booking after going on a trip to manchester this was supposed to be a stop off only to be told the room had been booked to a wedding couple. Was offered a family room but this was cold and smelled we declined the offer and that was it I was told I could have it at a reduced price but as there always is it was not reduced it was cheaper than the room I booked but it was the same price for the room. There reasoning was they did not take payment so it was ok. I had to spoil our weekend and go home not a patch on the service for hotel in manchester

Review 85:Nithing

Review 86:Nothing to dislike.

Review 87:The staff were very helpfull and cheerfull. Bonus for us was the Wednesday carvery - plenty to eat and very tasty. Breakfast was good and the lady bringing our food was very bubbly and helpfull.

Review 88:Might have been more comfortable sleeping on the floor. Could not find the way out in the morning as the way we came in was locked and this made us late! There were holes in the doors!

Review 89:Nothing

Review 90:I've stayed a fair few times now and last time I stayed I asked for a double bed and got two single beds, bedroom smelt of urine and the douvet and sheet were marked not impresses

Review 91:Rowdy, woken up around 4:30 am on Sunday by someone banging next door using foul language to his mate. Getting in and out of the hotel confusing; checking in at the bar on Saturday, after 7 pm, was daunting- not used to bars.

Review 92:The price was good and the bed was surprisingly quite comfortable

Review 93:the room temperature was far too warm, there was an air conditioner that cut in and out very noisily all night, road traffic noise was annoying, the bed was small, lumpy and not very comfortable

Review 94:Early time for booking out. Rooms were comfortable but the sockets are in the wrong place and it would be nice to see some pictures on the walls in the bedrooms.

Review 95:Good location. Friendly staff and very helpful.

Review 96:I stayed in a number of hotels while working in Rotherham but felt other hotels where more welcoming and friendly especially when travelling alone, it's quite formal rather than personal with a busy atmosphere, the staff here have allot of customers to attend to so they don't have much time for chatting to someone about there day or why they are visiting like had did in quieter bed and breakfasts.

Review 97:I found the room much nicer than shown in the picture and I stayed in 3 different rooms over 3 weeks, the quality of each was very good value for money, with fairly reliable internet. There are different themed nights such as curry, roast etc on the food side so it helps to give more variety to a week's stay at again good prices.

Review 98:i was disappointed we could not get an evening meal on saturday after shopping allday we just wanted a shower and a meal without having to go out again

Review 99:everything was good the staff were friendly and helpful in all it is a very nice hotel to stay at

Review 100:See above

Review 101:Adequate for purpose. Not expecting the ritz. Poor power point location. No hair dryer. Insuffient sugar.other than the carpet needs cleaning in room 15 its what i expected for the price.

Review 102:It appears to be kettle has not been cleaned in a while. Also if there is a function downstairs you may struggle to get to sleep.

Review 103:Good value for money. Room was clean and tidy.

Review 104:no extra blankets or pillows in room - didnt ask for any but am sure they would have been made available. No fan available in hotel. No food served Saturday evenings.

Review 105:Clean,comfortable rooms - bed good not too hard or soft. Bar area very nice with good staff. Breakfast excellent next morning.

Review 106:The quilt is now thicker than a blanket. the carpet is dirty. The sink is so small i could not fill the kettle only with a cup we were not inprest.

Review 107:Hotel staff good, food good function room excellent.

Review 108:The carpets need a clean

Review 109:Lovely staff; food is way above the value charged. Tribute needs to be paid to this overworked but so gifted staff who produce fabulous fresh meals. I was made very welcome and they have become friends. And I have gone back and will do so again.

Review 110:Room was clean enough, but smelt a little of stale smoke. Could do with a bit of refurbishment to brighten it up.

Review 111:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent!

Review 112:Not easy to find using postcode and Sat Nav. A little missunderstanding as I had booked breakfast and was asked for a "ticket" that I didn't have, or so I thought. Turned out to be the cover that they gave me with the card key.

Review 113:Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Gave me directions to the Mastermix studio. Full English breakfast was great.

Review 114:The room we first went to was very very cold like a morg, room hadn't been cleaned. Bathroom was dirty, bin in bathroom not even emptied, Stains on the carpet, towels were stained, bedding looked dirty so I complained to the manager about the room so he moved us to another room and that was just as bad as the first one only good thing was the room felt warmer. There was a leak in the bathroom from the shower unit, dust everywhere and the manager said that room had been cleaned what a joke, very disapointed

Review 115:Stayed twice there before and it was good and staff were very good, so the hotel has gone down hill since last year very very poor service don't think we will be going back, only nice thing about this hotel was the lady who sorted breakfast out in the morning. We came down abit late after breakfast had finished but she did offer to cook us something

Review 116:Looked a little untidy especially the floors. A lot of noise from other guests initially but ok when bedtime came.

Review 117:Location and bar. Really comfortable beds.

Review 118:To noisy close to busy road.Staff mived ne ti back room. This was then next to bar, again noisy. Bedroom i was put in at first, was like a cupboard and to hot. If I opened the window I could hear the road. Receptionist very kindly moved me to room 1, this was bwar the bar, and court yard were they had smoke.I couldnt open my window. Not suitable for me.

Review 119:Staff were very friendly, and helpfull.

Review 120:Dirty room - stains on bed sheets, lumps of dirt on bathroom floor and carpets. View of gypsy camp right outside window. Waiting for 20 minutes to be served at the bar - there was no one else there, but the barmaid was chatting and hadn't noticed we were there.

Review 121:Helpful friendly reception staff

Review 122:Double bed in room comprised 2 x single mattresses pushed together. Extremely uncomfortable affecting sleep. Only stayed one night so didn't bother to complain. Friend booked into a room & returned late at night to find someone else in room who had taken luggage down to reception! Eventually sorted.

Review 123:Rooms generally acceptable, clean & good value for money. Parking excellent. Location.

Review 124:Due to it being a pub it was really loud at night and there needs to be better entrances instead of walking through the bar to get to your room.

Review 125:I liked the location as parkgate was located nearby and there was a Asda right next to it which made it convenient.

Review 126:The carpet was dirty and the bed didn't smell fresh. The TV in the room was too small and the shower had black mould in it. When I woke up I didn't feel very clean at 6am when the industrial traffic woke me up!!!!!!

Review 127:The only drawback to the accommodation we experienced was that occupying a family room just as a couple was fine, BUT we did think the size of the bathroom was a little small for 4 people...

Review 128:Just a bit too noisy think i may of been above the laundry room?

Review 129:Staff very friendly and helpful room very clean

Review 130:noise level of disco and generator was also very loud

Review 131:near to where we were visiting

Review 132:The security was perfect and on the ball, also very helpful

Review 133:very friendly staff good service and a really comfortable bed

Review 134:Very clean tidy beds are comfortable showers lovely and hot tea making facilities in our room xx

Review 135:Our one night stay here was excellent, very clean, staff very friendly, a good full English breakfast, I would recommend this Hotel.
