Reviews for The North Star Hotel
Review 1:Beautiful hotel! Very helpful polite staff! Really enjoyed my second visit here and will 100% be booking again at the North Star in the future! Thank you :)
Review 2:Saturday night was ruined as we had to wait downstairs whilst the fire alarms were being sorted. Bearing in mind there was no alarm going off on the top floor ( which is the premier rooms u pay more for) a member of staff went around knockong doors.Which meant we missed our reservation for a night out which was booked for my girlfriends girlfriend. Others were refunded the night and free breakfast I was told the manager would contact me as I left my details (yet to hear anything)
Review 3:Staff were lovely Location excellent Upgrade given which was great Gluten free breakfast fab first day as separately cooked. Shame about the second morning. Still a great break!
Review 4:We previously stayed at this hotel and there was a drainage smell 3years ago, there has now been big renovations in this hotel but still the rooms smell of bad drainage. We weren't always in our room so we got used to it.
Review 5:The hotel was in great location, the staff were very helpful in the hotel,
Review 6:Got given a free room upgrade which we were very happy about but the A/C didn't work and the rooms were very hot so had trouble sleeping, the sink was blocked and then leaked everywhere, the toilet stopped working at one point and we had to ring reception to have our room cleaned because the maid never came!
Review 7:The breakfast is lovely! The staff are friendly but aren't helpful really
Review 8:When our taxi didn't show in the morning (4.30am) rather than try toning another one the staff simply complained about the taxi company. In the end we flagged down.our own taxi. As far as I'm aware the staff did manage to sort taxis for the other guests.
Review 9:The hotel is obviously in the process of refurbishment. Our bathroom was a little tired and dated, particularly the bath and toilet.
Review 10:The location of the hotel was great for exploring Dublin on foot. The cookhouse restaurant served good quality food with lots of local ingredients.
Review 11:There was a bad smell coming from the bathroom,so we had to keep the window opened for the duration of our stay.
Review 12:The room was clean and tidy, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
Review 13:Room was far to warm air on was broke only way to cool the room was leave the door to the balcony open which we couldn't do at nite
Review 14:The staff and food were excellent
Review 15:Excellent hotel, service and location. More than everything else I liked the environmental awareness, offering hand liquid soap in the bathroom, which can be refilled, instead of the annoying small bottles/bars that you use a tiny amount, and produce massive waste. Kudos.
Review 16:Breakfast 12.50 euro each and was standard was expecting fresher and better for four star Heating system went really warm and cool air system did not work, uncomfortably warm and dry heat for our entire stay. Although granted staff did try there best to accommodate: rooms are in big prison like long corridors, with low ceiling feels bit cramped. Ventilation not working in the bathroom. No toilets in reception.
Review 17:Staff really friendly
Review 18:There 's ongoing maintenance on site which have caused interruption with our sleeping patterns . The air conditioning is not functioning well although we have been given alternative fans to cover the facility .
Review 19:No nice view from room, a bit noisy but understand that there are some renovations. Very comfortable besides. Homely and breakfast most enjoyable.
Review 20:So convenient to town etc.
Review 21:Still a bit of construction going on and our room looked out at this. Bathroom was small.
Review 22:I don't think we stayed in one of the newest refurbished rooms. But still the room was very clean and comfortable. The reception area decor was lovely and very nice guy at check in.
Review 23:Even in the middle of December the rooms were unbearably hot. My room was at the back of the hotel which was quieter than the front, but still not quiet enough to open a window. So uncomfortable it resulted in a very poor nights sleep.
Review 24:Nice decor, rooms recently modernised to a high standard.
Review 25:Felt price was expensive for 1 night,( but it was 2 wks b4 christmas) breasfast wasnt included in our deal
Review 26:Hotel near train station, taxi rank, luas and city centre. Room nice nd warm, bar food excellent. Nice decor.
Review 27:Female manager in restaurant at bar turned a single lady away fromhaving dinner as she had not booked a table. Manager told her there wereno free seats left and there was. Point is the customer in question waspoorly dressed and this was not fair. There was room at our table andother tables. Manager can dismiss it but I witnessed it
Review 28:Accommodation extremely nice
Review 29:Bit nosey beside train station & some work going on at back of hotel. Wasn't a problem for me but may be a problem for some.
Review 30:Great central location right beside bus and rail station. 10/15min walk from Grafton St/Temple Bar. Friendly genuine staff. Comfortable room. Bar & Restaurant
Review 31:Our lower ground floor room. Had no view. In fact there was a brand new brick wall, immediately outside the window blocking all the light coming in. Don't book a lower floor room
Review 32:The location of the hotel is not good. It's noisy and feels unsafe. The rooms are small and very outdated. The bathroom had water leaking.
Review 33:Staff was nice and correct
Review 34:Not a thing to complain about..
Review 35:The hotel is close to the train station which suited my wife as she has a problem walking. The hotel kindly gave us a disabled room which was great, staff were excellent, ,food was superb, will go back again when next in Dublin.
Review 36:I had car parking the last time I was there but there was none this time. Caused a wee bit of fluster.
Review 37:Breakfast was superb. I had a fry but it tasted so fresh. Location excellent too.
Review 38:Paid for premier club room for access to the premier club lounge, which is definitely not worth the money. Only appeal of the room was free tea and coffee which wasn't even available on the 1st or 2nd night of our stay.
Review 39:Location was good as we were going to the 3 arena
Review 40:The room wasn't value for money. The shower had no power to it, the water for the shower was tepid and some other bits were not of quality for the price.
Review 41:It was smart looking, with a nice restaurant, pleasant staff and reasonable location. Easy to get to from the airport by the airbus.
Review 42:Alarm going of through the night and didn't think the breakfast was worth the money
Review 43:The hotel was just across the road from the train station. Staff were very pleasant and helpful
Review 44:While we were there the fire alarm went off at 2 AM and continued to go off every 20 mins. No call was made to make the guests aware there was no fire.
Review 45:Clean, comfortable, and in a good location.
Review 46:We ended up with a crazy fire alarm that somone broke in the middle of the night and it was unable to be fixed for 3 hours! But fair play to the hotel they gave us back a full refund, under a bot of pressure, but even still they did do it and I must say it would certainly not put me off staying again. They were extremely nice to everyone.
Review 47:Eveything about he builing, decor, kindness of the staff , cleanliness and general. I could not fault it
Review 48:Top quality room, we were upgraded on arrival which was a pleasant surprise, robes, slippers the works. What a breakfast, fantastic. We have stayed here before a few years ago and the place has raised its standard since.
Review 49:The customer service is very nice. I left my eye-glasses in the washroom and i was worried that if the housekeeper found it for me. I informed the hotel about my lost item and they replied to me shortly. I am so glad that I can get it back.
Review 50:Just the price of the hotel. Can't really complain as it has excellent facilities. Think if your staying you should get discount or something for second night but we were going to be charged full 129 for extra night and as we are a young couple we couldn't afford it. But that's the only thing
Review 51:Loved everything from the reception to the room with massive bed, fridge in the room was excellent gowns and slippers. Loved it.
Review 52:There was a hen type party in the hotel which kept us awake for hours. We explained the noise to the staff at about 4pm but they did nothing about it. They didn't even apologise in the morning when we went to pay our bill ...very poor service
Review 53:Good hotel for the price. Very good food in the restaurant.
Review 54:Rooms were very modern & clean. Staff were helpful. We traveled with a 2 year old, & they helped carry bags and fetch us milk late at night for him. Very attentive.
Review 55:Handle of door came off in my hand when I tried to close the door, the window didn't close properly I could get my fingers in between window and frame the draught was incredible room was 350
Review 56:Location
Review 57:We were upgraded free of charge, and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautiful, felt very luxurious, not sure we were posh enough! It's a hidden gem of Dublin, and very welcoming.
Review 58:it was very noisy at night, wifi very poor and bed very small and uncomfortable. ..The room was very cold then you put heat on it got too warm. ..
Review 59:the staff was very welcoming .
Review 60:Staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful! They gave us a complimentary upgrade due to receiving good news! Location good, 5mins walk from bus station and 10 from O'Connell street
Review 61:There is obviously a lot of work being done to improve the building just now - and we were immediately upgraded after a problem to a room on floor 7 by the manager who seemed very helpful and professional. We had no hot water in our room 208? which was in an older part of the hotel. The floors in 208 were very uneven and the bedside cabinet drawers stayed opened due to the effect of sloping floor - had to put my cup of tea in the drawer to prevent it sliding off! Orientation confusing with reception on floor 2 - not obvious from stair route from floor 7 when walkway closed for refurb.
Review 62:Great, helpful, happy staff and room quality after upgrade. Clean and quiet. Balcony view and a short walk to the centre of town so very handy for transport.
Review 63:Not exactly a bad experience but the hotel location is on edge of a undesirable neighborhood. Main lobby elevator is on 2nd floor so getting luggage down 2 sets of steps to front door is difficult.
Review 64:Room on 7th floor with sofa's, coffee & tea were our group could get together at night.
Review 65:none encountered.
Review 66:The hotel was very elegant on arrival with great furnishings and decor. I was helped to my room with my luggage carried. Great restaurant- loved the food and the access to my destinations no more than 15/20 mins away. Fantastic bedrooms. Oh and the beds - I slept straight through the night - so comfy!
Review 67:There were two hairs on the shower wall which was off putting sadly
Review 68:Stayed here a few times in the past and really like it.staff lovely rooms comfortable
Review 69:There was a noisy building site outside each of the rooms The bathrooms were a little un clean The restuarent food was poor
Review 70:Staff and general facilities were good
Review 71:The first night our room was on the construction side and the train side. Train was worked in all night. Also no elevator from the first floor so had to carry bags up small flight of stairs.
Review 72:Friendly helpful staff. They went out of their way to be helpful or meet our needs in any way that they could.
Review 73:Our key card was a little tricky. We had to try it a few times before the door actually opened. Personally I thought the decor in the bathroom was awful.
Review 74:Staff very helpful and accommodating. Very relaxed atmosphere.Great location, 5min walk to city centre and Luas just outside the door.
Review 75:Thought the prices a little too expensive paid 229 euros thought should have been about 500 euros
Review 76:The rooms excellent plenty of room staff very helpful
Review 77:Worst hotel I have ever booked through booking.com. I had booked a premium room on the 7th floor, but when I entered the room I found this loud deep fan noise which could even be felt in the walls. Got rebooked to a "suite" which besides the size of it was a poor experience as well. No hot water for my shower in the mornings, horrible escalators which takes forever to use. This is heavily overprized and not worthy of being on booking.com
Review 78:Getting out of there
Review 79:Unawware of the revamp and no disabled access from foyer to 1st floor.
Review 80:I thought the staff very professional and courteous. We were not made aware that the hotel was going though a major transformation and had no wheel chair access for our wheel chair bound mother BUT on the plus side the management and entire staff could not had done anymore to make our stay any more comfortable. I would like to thank Sean the barman for his hospitality a true professional.
Review 81:The cost of room didn't cover breakfast but wasn't much of a problem since there are many nice restaurants in the city at reasonable price.
Review 82:The hotel is very conveniently located just off O'Connell street and comprises welcoming staff who were very helpful. We returned home to a clean and tidy room every night.
Review 83:I was in Dublin doing the marathon and I didn't appreciate getting a wake up call before 9 on day I was to check out also being rudely interrupted several times by housekeeping walking in on me and my embarrassed young son !!!! Also no parking facilities!!
Review 84:Location around central bus station was in an area of druggies and beggars where we encountered a bit of hassle each day. Also, bus system not great for getting across town although advised it was the best option.
Review 85:Staff were great and friendly and provided an extra marathon pre-race snack which was a nice touch.
Review 86:Has a very poor experience with the shuttle service. My partner and I are anxious flyers and we booked the shuttle to give us enough time the night before. However the shuttle did not come. We waited for almost 45 minutes until the staff finally called us a cab. The staff was nice and I knew this was not their fault but rather the fault of whoever was driving the shuttle but it was still a disappointing end to a great stay otherwise.
Review 87:Room was very nice! Location near train station was extremely convenient! Staff was very nice.
Review 88:That our room was right outside a construction zone. That know one metentioned. That we were unable to cool our room, so had an uncomfortable nights sleep. That the picture on the website is not what we got.
Review 89:That it was no problem to check in early. The staff were friendly and very approachable. They booked our taxi for the next day.
Review 90:The lobby and certain other parts of hotel had what appeared to be a strong sewage odor. Elevators operated at a snails pace and construction right outside our window was loud and a terrible view of equipment and just a utter mess.
Review 91:Location was ideal for our purposes.
Review 92:It's always a pleasure staying at the North Star hotel and this trip was the same. Nicest hotel I've ever stayed in and always try to get a room when visiting Dublin.
Review 93:We were unable to check in early, even after emailing the hotel twice to see if this was possible (We did not recieve a response) We had to wait 6 hours before being able to check in as we arrived at 8am. We were given a room with a double and single bed after requesting a double room, the view was terrible; a building site! After speaking with reception to advise that we were unhappy they showed us a different room. This room had the same view but without the single bed, much less space with dated decor. I spoke with reception to say I was unhappy and they finally showed us a different room on the newly refurbished wing- much better! Slightly noisy as it was facing the main road but this is obviously out of the hotels control (we opted to keep the window open) No complaints as to style, size, comfort etc and I have to thank the staff for being so understanding.
Review 94:Location- nice walk to areas of interest
Review 95:There was a strong smell of sewage in the hotel foyer & the location wasn't very desirable
Review 96:Room, good value, staff were very efficient & friendly
Review 97:There was a stale smell near the steps to the elevator and these steps were difficult to negotiate with luggage. The area is not very good and quite a walk to msin shopping precinct, Trinity Colege, St Sephens Green.
Review 98:The restauarant was very good food and service exceptional
Review 99:There was nothing to not like, we enjoyed our stay and think we are very lucky to be able to have a weekend away in a great city.
Review 100:This was my first stay in Dublin and all the staff were excellent and really made you welcome, we were also given an upgrade which was also lovely and appreciated, the room was great and very clean.
Review 101:Location was okay but very noisy particularly in the morning, but there was construction going on. The restaurant next door was very convenient and the food and service were excellent. Great having breakfast included. The gym was pretty good for a hotel. The rooms were okay, very clean, but the bathrooms were a little outdated. The concierge was extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 102:The hotel is right on the road so no where for a car to pull off to tounload suitcases. The hotel doesn't have a car park- had to walk 5minutes to a public car park- another 9 euros. What a drama trying tounload bags with the car half parked on the road and footpath. Our roomwas next to the railway track- $300 for a sleepless night. There were nospare rooms and we were told the last train was at 11pm and first at6.30. wrong. Last train at 12.30 and first at 5.30 A.M. We couldn'tseem to adjust the air con in the room. It was very hot and thetemperature wouldn't adjust. The only blanket was a winter weightquilt. Couldn't have the balcony door open as there was so much roadand traffic noise!! The male staff at the desk couldn't have caredless about our concerns- no eye contact and very dismissive. It seems wewere entitled to the Premier lounge but not told about this at all. After 2 weeks in Ireland with fantastic experiences, friendly hotelstaff and quiet rooms this place was dismal. If we hadn't beenflying out the next day we would have left.
Review 103:The food in the restaurant was very good as was the service.Comfortable bed
Review 104:The standard room was not great and we had to upgrade since we were staying for 6 nights. The standard rooms were very outdated and small.
Review 105:The upgraded room was very nice and the bar/restaurant was very good
Review 106:Water was not available for a long time after we checked in
Review 107:Good location: near public transportation and taxis; convenience stores within one block; lots of cheap eating places
Review 108:Was a bit noisy at night. Not sure family friendly. A lot of hen nights were there and was woken to singing and slamming doors!
Review 109:Staff were extremely friendly. Manager of restaurant (Claire) was so helpful and couldn't do enough to help us. We had 3 small children with us so helping us to keep them happy was invaluable!! Ate both evening meal and breakfast. Both were beautiful!
Review 110:The breakfast was expensive but the quality of the food was terrible. I emailed asking for a gluten free option as I have celiac disease - my email was ignored as I didn't receive a response and no gluten free option was available. The pillows were absolutely solid and so uncomfortable. The duvet cover felt really old, worn and over used. I didn't sleep well during my stay.
Review 111:The restaurant in the hotel served lovely food.
Review 112:The three night stay was not worth value for money and not what I expected unfortunately. We could have stayed elsewhere for the same price and have received far more facilities and I am sure we would have received a better room. No fridge in room, unclear signs in hotel, drilling and banging at 0800 on the Monday morning, a hole in the wall in room, a random white patch painted on the roof, lots of rubbish outside our window, dust located above TV and around air con system, few coffee and tea making facilities and a kettle that was temperamental. Advised whilst booking and at front desk when arrived that breakfast was included however we were then advised at breakfast it was not which left us in limbo and was never clarified.
Review 113:Location of hotel was fantastic, right next door to Connelly Station. It is rather easy to find, small supermarket next door which is useful. Staff were generally helpful and friendly but we did sense that the managing staff were rather hostile.
Review 114:It was a little far from the central area is the only downside but it made for a shorter 13 min walk to the spire. To get to Temple Bar district is a 20 min walk. Perfect location for the football stadium. Workout room was a little dated and in the basement.
Review 115:Great hotel, clean room was nice we had a family suite and it was big and spacious. The staff was excellent. Strong WiFi and a good breakfast. The hotel restaurant was excellent and the manager and staff were outstanding. A good 4 star hotel.
Review 116:A couple a few doors down arguing at 4am woken us up however this can't be helped, iron wouldn't work as faulty plug socket so used our Friends next door.
Review 117:Comfort of the bed, modern room friendly staff, approachable and willing to help
Review 118:Not as close to the airport as we had anticipated given it was advertised as an airport hotel. ( we were on our way home).Bathroom very small and noted that some of the basics not provided- like Kleenex. North American adapters didn't work in any of the outlets so we couldn't plug anything in or charge phones. Elevators extremely slow and one staircase up to first floor where lifts are located would be challenging to anyone with mobility issues.
Review 119:Relatively good location; staff friendly and efficient. The heated beer gardens was great: Good food and service
Review 120:I had requested a quiet room but on arrivel found our room to overlook a noisy building site. The pillows were like rocks and when I asked for softer ones were told they only have the one type of pillows, the room was pretty basic too in need of refurbishment. I would say the hotel was more of a 3 star than a 4 star and in our opinion overpriced for what was on offer.
Review 121:The hotel staff were very nice very helpful. The breakfast was varied and you could eat as much as you wanted .
Review 122:WiFi didn't work well. Had a room on the first floor (more basement), it was really hot in the hallway. Expensive for what you get
Review 123:We could check in quite early. Bathroom was clean.
Review 124:elevator was not on same level as check-in And had to lug bags a short flight of stairs.
Review 125:Very good breakfast Large room and bathroom We were upgraded to concierge level which had a lounge with free bottled water, and snacks. Also a continental breakfast served in AM
Review 126:When asking about a gluten free option for breakfast the staff seemed to be confused by this and couldn't tell me whether it was an option or not.
Review 127:The rooms were comfortable and very clean and the sauna was a treat!
Review 128:Very small dingy room on the 1st floor overlooking the parking lot. Small bed and bathroom with only one sink, trickling water in the shower. It was more like a 2 star hotel with 4 star prices. The Worst hotel we stayed in ireland. Very dissapointed. The room was not ready when we arrived and the staff was not helpful at all.
Review 129:Location was close to the city
Review 130:The gym was outdated. The room was like a sauna The car park is now gone, which was the main reason we booked. The room was expensive and didn't include breakfast
Review 131:Food was top class
Review 132:No stand alone shower just a bath tub with a shower in it which is difficult to get in and out and poor for 2015. The beds were not good, the facilities and decor very dated.
Review 133:Food was ok and hotel near train station.
Review 134:That there was no lift to our bedroom and we had a young baby so every time we went out we had to lift the buggy up and down many steps.
Review 135:Very clean bedrooms
