Reviews for Scotch Arms Mews
Review 1:Genuinely don't have a bad word to say about the place!
Review 2:Everything! Staff were very welcoming and lovely. Room was spotless and comfy. The breakfast was also very nice!
Review 3:No evening meals in winter period making the bar and eating area devoid of people and therefore somewhat cheerless. Breakfast, however, was all you could wish for with plenty of choice served by friendly staff.
Review 4:Good parking. Exceptionally clean premises.
Review 5:The (so far as we were concerned) low level of lighting in our room caused us slight problems which we raised with the proprietors before we left and which they promised to investigate.
Review 6:Everyone we dealt with in the Scotch Arms Mews was very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were very good, the wine bar and dining areas are very comfortable, and the parking facilities are first class. The hotel is right in the centre of Brampton near all the town's facilities.
Review 7:quite a bit of traffic passing by early in the morning. would have prefered one large bed rather than two pushed together.
Review 8:very large room with excellent shower. handy for the town centre. Very nice lounge and dining area. Delicious breakfast. good storage facilities for cycles.
Review 9:Breakfasts and dinners are superb served by friendly welcoming staff. Having stayed in several rooms on different occasions found all the beds to be comfortable and all rooms spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Wifi works very well and plenty of parking. There is also a good range of local information available and the lady at breakfast was extremely helpful suggesting places to visit if you have "done" Carlisle. Plenty of parking
Review 10:The double bed was actually two single beds combined. So the middle part of it was not comfortable. It was cold, sinkable and chilly in that part. So we actually used it as two single beds. It's not a big deal. Everything else is perfect.
Review 11:Clean, warm and comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and plenty of hot and freshly cooked breakfast.
Review 12:None
Review 13:Absulotely stunning localized B&B, friendly staff got great hospitality. Room was gorgeous and clean. Love welcome drink and cookies for my 2 yr old. Dinner was tasty with beautiful presentation plus good customer service bring my family an unforgettable exprience. Breakfast was great and my child was well looked after.
Review 14:The hotel has been recently renovated & has clean, modern, comfortable rooms. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. Good location for visiting/walking Hadrians Wall.
Review 15:Barely enough storage/hanging space for a one-night stay. Any longer would have been a bit of a struggle. Also hanging rail far too high for anybody under about 5'9". Having to take a hard-wired plug to the sink to fill kettle. Is that still legal in the UK?
Review 16:Complimentary glass of wine on arrival was a nice surprise - but not as you are carrying luggage and trying to check-in. Nice room - large comfortable bed.
Review 17:recently refurbished to a very high standard modern rooms, bar and restaurant but retains many original period features. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast.
Review 18:We found the lighting in our room a bit dim for reading or looking at maps, but when we menationed this they immediately provided another lamp.
Review 19:Good location in a lovely market town -lots of places to eat a drink. Extremely helpful owners and staff. Very pleasing decor - very Farrell and Ball. Excellent breakfast swiftly served.
Review 20:As mature travelers, we had great difficulty climbing the stairs...we would have asked for first floor if we had known there was a second floor. Electricity went out while we were there. This appeared to be from mass use of hair driers and other electrical items just prior to breakfast. It was a simple overload causing the breaker switch to go off. The moral of the story is that the wiring, although only a year old, is insufficient and therefore a fire hazard. Recommend that the installing electrician replace with heavier wiring that will not trip from normal use.
Review 21:Very nice hotel, well furnished. Great food.
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:Room was quite spacious, clean and well presented. Shower room with quadrant shower cubicle with plenty of hot water, tea & coffee making facilities. Breakfast v.good and staff friendly and v. helpful.
Review 24:The single matress whilst comfortable was too soft making it difficult to roll over.
Review 25:The overall newness of the rooms; decor, fixures and fittings. Cleanliness beyond fault.
Review 26:I thought I had booked for the bedroom to be set up as a twin for myself and my adult daughter..but staff said I hadn't and that they could not change it...but the bed was of the type that converts to singles so it could have been done. We were also told to drink up at 11.20 pm so we didn't disturb residents..when we said that we were residents we were told we still had to drink up as other residents were asleep!!!!!!
Review 27:Great location. Beautifully renovated and decorated and good sized room with excellent en suite. Breakfast very good.
Review 28:Stayed in single room so expected to be a little smaller than normal, so no complaints as I've stayed in much smaller, less well kept places that cost twice as much. Overall, great place.
Review 29:Clean, simple but comfortable rooms. Lovely bar and great location.
Review 30:The room and bathroom were clean and modern. The breakfast was very good, with a wide choice of nice things to eat and a lovely cup of tea. Staff friendly and welcoming.
Review 31:I couldn't open the sash window, but felt that I could have asked if I really wanted to
Review 32:food was excellent. Room was clean , comfortable and a cosy environment
Review 33:Very friendly and welcoming staff and owners. We were made to feel very much at home. The room was a good size with a great ensuite. Everywhere was tastefully renovated and decorated to a high standard and spotlessly clean. Plenty of safe parking at the back of the property. An added bonus was the bar and restaurant.
Review 34:Not a major problem, but our room was facing High Street, which gets a lot of traffic from the very early hours.
Review 35:Great location in centre of Brampton, friendliness of staff and truly brilliant breakfasts!
Review 36:Liked that the room was checked every day,if you required clean towels, more toilet roll and the tea/coffee was replenished. The shower also had a shelve for you toiletries, small things but you don't get them every where
Review 37:This is personal but I found the room too highly scented, either air freshener or fabric softener (think the latter) so had problems with asthma. Advised staff and they were going to look into it.
Review 38:Staff, owners, everyone lovely. Beautifully refurbished rooms. Great chef!! Would definitely recommend it or stay again.
Review 39:When in some of the rooms, there can be an element of noise from the main road, or from people in the area outside of the bar.
Review 40:The property has been refurbished very well and is very modern with traditional elements retained. The rooms are very spacious. The staff are friendly and helpful. Great food and the bar was very busy on the Saturday night. A great place to stay if Brampton is your base. Thanks for a very enjoyable stay...
Review 41:Potentially short staffed if really busy
Review 42:Location and buildings retain their historic character and remain authentic in this renovated B&B. A good stay and the evening meal was good quality & value for money
Review 43:Large room, good bathroom, reasonably quiet with parking. It is central in town, so there is easy walking access to not only the hotel dining room, but many others in the town. Brampton is close to the motorway and Carlisle, but far away enough to be a quieter sanctuary.
Review 44:Staff were very friendly. Our room and the public areas, including the bar, looked like they had only recently been renovated. Very clean. Room facilities had everything available and everything was working. Breakfast had good choice of cereals fresh fruit, juices and cooked breakfast. Breakfast staff very friendly. Additionally, I had arranged a packed lunch the for the following day. This was very good value. Location is handy for rest of the village. I would recommend Scotch Mews.
Review 45:The owners of this B&B describe it as luxury. My elderly sister and I spent one night there and in our opinion there was nothing luxurious about the place. Our room was on the top floor, we had to struggle with our suit cases on very steep stairs. The bedroom was average size, a small window, very noisy from the traffic below and the breakfast was not very exciting either. So I would not class this as a luxury establishment.
Review 46:Disappointed that the main reason for the choice of this hotel was the promised secure parking for motorcycles. It was a secure storeroom that was small and could not have accommodated the 3 bikes, even if we had stripped them down to get them through the person-sized door. Suggest this is either not advertised as such, or an up-and over door is fitted.
Review 47:Loved the experience, comfort, friendly and helpful staff. (esp when one motorcycle found with a puncture in the morning) Good location and idea for a stop over on the way to/from Scotland. Would use this hotel again : )
Review 48:Nothing to not like
Review 49:Everything, a brilliant welcome and a fantastic evening in the bar. Well Done Michelle. Breakfast was A1. This is somewhere I would look forward to going back to. Thank you.
Review 50:A minor one: no evening meals, but they are about to start doing this, so all is good!!
Review 51:Family run business, very professional and friendly. Beautifully decorated. Perfect launch point for northern England exploration.
Review 52:This hotel is asking way too much per night for what it provides , it has recently been done up to a reasonable standard but the cost is being put over to the room price . I was in the area on business for a week it cost me nearly £500 to stay here , no breakfast as the staff weren't in till 8 am no evening meal as they didn't offer this service also my room measured approx 10 ft by 7 ft wouldn't use it again .
Review 53:My elderly father stayed here while the rest of the extended family stayed in a holiday house nearby. This meant that there was a lot of coming and going to visit Granda and the staff could not have been more accommodating. He had a lovely stay! Thanks so much.
Review 54:The bar downstairs was under our room and was very noisy until 11pm The young man behind the bar was serving and also trying to show people on their rooms I had to run upstairs after him carrying a heavy case
Review 55:Our room was lovely Very clean and well decorated/furnished
Review 56:Only one problem needs a dressing table lamp for doing ones hair.
Review 57:Good, clean, spacious room. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.
Review 58:No draught beer on sale at the bar, no food available during the day orevening although the owner informed us that they were having a newkitchen fitted this week so they would be able to provide this service
Review 59:Almost everything
Review 60:No meals served after breakfast and very little in eating houses on a Monday evening
Review 61:A good venue for B & B in Brampton. Clean, tidy and newly refurbished. Friendly helpful staff
Review 62:Possibly better sound proofing
Review 63:Excellent breakfast and extremely friendly staff. Loved the building - very interesting. Wish the weather had been good enough for a drink on the terrace. Own car park - so useful!
Review 64:Wifi was very temperamental but this may be because I was not in the main building. Bed was very soft with a strange plastic feeling undersheet.
Review 65:Very clean and newly decorated. Staff smiley and helpful.
Review 66:Not a bad experience but we did feel the rooms could be more effectively soundproofed -eg - could hear people breathing next door!!
Review 67:Friendly and attentive staff. Clean, comfortable and attractive room. Good and plentiful breakfast with great trouble to cater for a vegetarian and a vegan. Pleasant town and useful access to public transport.
Review 68:Perfect accomodation! We stayed here during our hike along the Hadrian's wall. The rooms are perfectly clean and very nicely decorated. The owners are also more than willing to go the extra mile if needed! Highly recommended
Review 69:Love this place, From the very helpful and friendly staff where nothing's too much trouble to the excellent breakfast in the morning, I work all over England and have lost count on how many B&B,s I have stayed in but I know this place is one of the best.
Review 70:The location is spot on to visit attractions in the area. Room was comfortable, of good size and very clean. Room facilities were very good. The Staff were brilliant....friendly and helpful. Amazing breakfast.
Review 71:very noisy until pub closing time (music, conversations from beer garden, bed vibrating every time the doors slam)
Review 72:Very new and clean; good power-shower; friendly & efficient staff; bottled water in room; good free-hand hairdryer
Review 73:No wi-fi as advertised but to be fair didn't ask why it wasn't working or for any further instructions of use.
Review 74:Clean and comfortable rooms. Decorated to a high standard. Good facilities.
Review 75:noise from the bar as we were in the room above I didnt realise there were stairs not enough hanging space, or drawers as we stayed several nights
Review 76:big comfy bed excellent cleanliness very friendly staff
Review 77:Room on quite a busy road.... No double-glazing so disrupted sleep. Also above a bar so aware of music and noise till midnight.
Review 78:Lovely comfy bed and attractively refurbished old property. Very nice bathroom but small. Nice location for breakfast but not luxury as described!
Review 79:Nothing to dislike
Review 80:How friendly the staff were and made us feel at home, also because we were working away from home they used to make us an evening meal Mondays and Tuesdays which was very kind
Review 81:Check in and out times are very late and very early respectively. Breakfast times are early which doesn't allow you to fully appreciate the fantastic room. Beverage tray in room is travel lodge standard. All this said it is a lovely place with great staff
Review 82:Perfect B&B with a touch of luxury. The room was beautiful and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was hearty and all local produce. We would definitely recommend to others and stay again.
