Reviews for Downsview

Review 1:I was near reception so it was a bit too noisy in the morning. One of the single beds that made up my double bed had a dip in the middle.

Review 2:Great staff Very clean Reasonable prices

Review 3:Host guided me to the place over the phone while I was driving. Also facilitated early breakfast on a Sunday which I needed due to my Euroshuttle slot

Review 4:Further away from eurotunnel than we expected - it was 20 minutes, not 5 as it said on the information when we booked. I would still recommend it though. Also the room could do with a new carpet as it was very marked, everything else was very clean though.

Review 5:Good sized room, comfy beds and pillows, easy access, lots of parking right outside.

Review 6:Shower wasn't great. Very poor water pressure.

Review 7:It was very clean. The beds were comfy. The breakfast was great. We opted for continental and the staff were happy to keep bringing out more croissants and drinks. Very substantial. The view over the downs from the back garden was lovely.

Review 8:Very cute property. Bathroom was large and very clean. Proprietor went out of her way to assist us in returning a rental car on time. She was very accommodating and welcoming. Convenient location close to international train station.

Review 9:The room we had was noisy (along the road). No wardrobe. Heavy bacon smells from the kitchen at early breakfast time.

Review 10:Very nice house, cleanliness and a good location for visiting the region.

Review 11:Nothing

Review 12:Very comfortable, large family room, plenty of space for 4 people and spotless. Breakfast choice is plentiful and beautifuly cooked. Perfect overnight location for the cross channel ferries and Eurotunnel and set in beautiful surroundings.

Review 13:The pillows were really hard. But that's probably more about me being a diva.

Review 14:Great breakfast. Very nice owners. Very helpful. Good location for exercise.

Review 15:The curtain was very difficult to pull and was partially hanging off the rail where a previous occupant had obviously also struggled with them. I had to wait for ten minutes before any one attended to me at the check-in desk.

Review 16:The hotel was very clean and furnished/presented to a very high standard. It was comfortable and everything you needed was provided. The staff in the morning were attentive and friendly.

Review 17:On the occasion of my stay I was unable to gain access to wifi. The owner did get someone out straight away but at 9.45 in the evening still without access to wifi I had to go bed. I was very disappointed with this aspect.

Review 18:The hotel is really a Guest House with no additional facilities, and it doesn't appear to be near any local amenities.

Review 19:The staff were very friendly and we had no complaints about the facilities. There was plenty of on-site parking. All in all good value for your money.

Review 20:Absolutely nothing to dislike.

Review 21:The friendliness of the owner and staff The comfortable room and delicious breakfast. I will definitely stay there again when visiting Kent for an overnight stay.

Review 22:An other one of this place that still has tthe feeling of a time warp from 1980' , the reception is minimal and without enthousiam ...were we in the way ? Very expensive but in Ashton it must be a captive market

Review 23:Next to road and restaurants . Nice bathroom .

Review 24:Very nice place too stay, we'be had a room on the rearside of the building, a great view and very quite. The owner is very nice and helpfull. There's also a very nice pup with great food, 4 minutes from the guest house.

Review 25:No bar, short walk to a pub but no food, not even a sandwich as arrived at 10.05pm.

Review 26:Location for tunnel and Dover. Great place if you had a wedding, lovely grounds. Nice rooms.

Review 27:I reserved 2 rooms: one for 2 adults with 2 children and one for a single adult. The confirming email indicated one room for 3 and one room a double. I sent an email to Downsview asking for confirmation of my original reservation and they replied that it was correct. When we got there we found it wasn't. Fortunately they had a family apartment available that was only slightly more expensive. Also this was the only place we stayed that didn't include breakfast except for the airport hotel before returning home.

Review 28:We stayed here the night before travelling to Switzerland on Eurostar. Very good location, a few mins drive to Ashford Intl station. Room was lovely. Didn't have breakfast because we wanted to get to Eurostar early but the dining room looked great. Will definitely stay there again when we next go travelling

Review 29:Wi-fi terrible, wouldn't connect Bedspread/quilt on bed was extremely heavy and uncomfortable. Sheet under it was very thin and not warm enough to dispense with the other thing.

Review 30:Not a lot

Review 31:Found the bed not so comfortable but was only one night..

Review 32:Location in relation to Eurostar. Friendly Hosts. Good supply of tea/coffee/milk supplies.

Review 33:The warm welcome we got when we arrived. Lovely bright accomadation , quite location , excellent food and service at breakfast , staff could not do enough for you. We both would certainly stay here again and recommend to others.

Review 34:No evening meal was offered so had to go to an alternative location. However this was only a few minutes walk away, the food was good, and there was a good play area for the children.

Review 35:Lovely clean and spacious family room with one double and two single beds, good selection for breakfast, and hot drinks facility in the room.

Review 36:We really enjoyed our time there. We are a family of five from Cologne,Germany and had a very comfortable big room (room 12) with a bigbathroom which got refurbished recently. Everything was clean and dontmiss the full English breakfast in the morning!!! Staff is veryfriendly and if you're looking for a guesthouse in the country thengo for it.

Review 37:Lovely helpful lady who runs the hotel. Large car park and close to a restaurant only short walk away for evening meal. Asked for a quiet room and got exactly what I asked for. Will stay again when travelling on Eurotunnel

Review 38:having a late night and an early start, but MOST of all, having to miss out on the Breakfast ! as if it was as GOOD as the rest of Downsview, it seems we have missed a treat.

Review 39:after being parked up on the M20 for several hours in the Operation Stack Up, I phoned Downsview to let them know that we would be arriving late. I spoke to a lady who gave me her first name, Christine and she was very courteous over the phone, along with having a very friendly way, offering help and suggestions. on arrival Christine was there again making sure we had everything we needed, including directions to the Eurostar Station, so that we could collect our tickets that night, saving us any trouble on our early start the following day.

Review 40:We arrived to find a note on the door to say the operator would be back soon to open the door and wait in the lounge, the door was locked finally found someone to let us in and there was a workman in there waited about 30 mins and then heard voices so went to check and there was the owner and her husband (the workman ) who said oh we didn't know you were here I forgot to take the sign off the door and the husband said oh I thought you were already checked in ???? We asked for a breakfast to go (as they had advertised) thinking it would be a continental breakfast Oh they said sorry that's to early we can't do anything until 7.30 so no breakfast for us as we had to get the euro star to Paris

Review 41:Hotel was attractive and rooms were spacious clean and comfortable

Review 42:The only little complaint was that the shower could have been more powerful

Review 43:a warm friendly welcome on arrival, hosts did everything to make our stay special

Review 44:Light and airy downstairs room with view over the countryside. There was a garden to walk in. Friendly staff; good food. Lots of milks for the tea and coffee in the room! plenty of car parking, easy to find.

Review 45:Big garden, but no facilities for the children (a swing e.g.) Very busy road, not nice to walk on, but hotel is far enough from it not to notice

Review 46:very friendly people, nice clean, large familyroom.

Review 47:Nothing for us, it was all good.

Review 48:Ideal stop to or from channel tunnel or ferry. Friendly and helpful, great accommodation, big comfy bed, and with all the home comforts we'd missed on the continent - like drink facilities, hairdryer, iron etc in your room. And a great breakfast at a reasonable cost, set us up for our 300 mile ride home.

Review 49:The welcome and information given when we arrived as to where to eat. Accomodating when the bedroom had been set up as a double and it was changed instantly to a twin. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 50:The shower unit (in particular the shower head) was very poor. Out of all the available water holes, from the head, only 2 of the holes were working properly to the point of piercing you. So the shower spray was very poor.

Review 51:Although the room itself was good, it was sadly let down by the shower unit. I preferred the downstairs rooms, where I had stayed on my previous visits.

Review 52:Heating was stuck on on the hottest day of the year, the staff were aware of this and had 'solved' the problem by leaving the ground floor windows open. It was also not clear which were private areas and which were for the guests. This was awkward.

Review 53:Breakfast was good.

Review 54:Flexibility - No problem when we requested an early breakfast - cooked and v good. Not many places are prepared to cook a breakfast for early-departing guests before their scheduled start time for breakfast. Full marks Downsview and Christine.

Review 55:That we didn't stay for breakfast! We heard it was really good and it certainly smelt lovely!

Review 56:Lovely property, tasteful, comfortable, clean and with good facilities. We were visiting friends around the corner so we chose mainly based on location, which was perfect for us. We would happily stay here again as it was also good value.

Review 57:The guesthouse was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious but it would have been good to have ground coffee instead of instant.comfortable

Review 58:We had to pay extra £12 for a very basic continental breakfast and the heating stopped working about 10pm. When we report it we had as an answer that they can't afford to have the heating on and they recommend us to use more blankets.

Review 59:Nice and quite hotel Friendly staff easy parking Very good bathroom Big clean and comfort room

Review 60:It would be nice if breakfast was included in the price. Bathroom smelled a bit mouldy.

Review 61:Had a nice lounge. Didn't use it, but it's nice to have it there. The TV was nice and big. The views were great and the garden was nice. Close to restaurants and pubs.

Review 62:Downsview is everything it promises to be. We booked the 2 bed appartment on the top floor. It was well worth it. V comfortable, well appointed and spotlessly clean.

Review 63:Shower did not have enough power

Review 64:Very clean & well maintained. Large garden for the kids to play in. Great size family room. Within walking distance of pub and restaurant. Easy access to Motorway & A roads.

Review 65:This is our second time at Dowsview and we remain very happy with the service of staff, location, and facilities of the hotel. Good free wifi, hearty full English breakfast!, safe plentiful parking.

Review 66:Stunning hotel (high ceilings, original flooring). The owner is extremely friendly, she will make you feel right at home. My friend and I had breakfast in a bright and sunny dining room with gorgeous views over the valley. The hiking trail starts right in the back of the garden. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a quiet stay in the beautiful country side surrounding Ashford.

Review 67:a bit noisy because the room is located just at the top of the stairs

Review 68:room 7: close to where I needed to go the next day. good breakfast friendly staff

Review 69:The size of the room and bed, the helpfulness of the staff and the breakfast - even at 7.15 on a Sunday morning! The room was very spacious with a king size bed and 2 chairs, overlooking the garden and view. Staff were lovely.

Review 70:The bar that was closed consisted of a selection of wines and a fridge with canned beer at about £3.50 a can. There was no wifi after a brief encounter with a young lad who opened the door with the telephone next to his ear, there was no body to be seen for the duration of my stay

Review 71:It was a lovely clean comfortable B&B.

Review 72:The gentleman who eventually let us in (my colleague arrived later and had similar experience) seemed to be very poorly and I felt really bad for disturbing him! Very disappointed and surprised to find bed didn't have a duvet, but sheets and eiderdown, having said that, it was a cold night and I slept ok. Nowhere in the room could I find a wifi code, and I really didn't want to go down and disturb the man again so I rang the main telephone number from my mobile! Would have been so much easier to have the code on the desk! I could have done with it a second time for my phone but didn't want to ring a second time!

Review 73:My room was very spacious, the lady at breakfast was very friendly and chatty.

Review 74:We couldn't log on to the free Wi-Fi. When we asked for assistance, we were told by the owner's very drunken brother that we would have to wait until the next day. Which wasn't of any help as we were only staying one night!

Review 75:The view out of our window was stunning and the room was spacious, cosy, comfortable and clean. We were greeted by the very friendly owner.

Review 76:Nothing.

Review 77:The rooms have plenty of space, and nice ensuite bathroom and the triple room was very good for 3 daughters. The breakfast dining room is large with good seating and food and nice atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we were very grateful for an extra laundry request which the housekeeper helped out with aplomb and excellently done.

Review 78:The hotelo is just right for my family as we are regular vistors to the UK. The hotel is clean and Always welcoming and a joy to us as a stopover before travelling in the UK or back to Europe. We certainly will return in the coming years.

Review 79:Everything. Guy was weird. Quite rude and I am sure it's a half way house as full of kids playing music. WiFi was more miss than hit...Worst place I have stayed for ages.

Review 80:Leaving.

Review 81:Uncomfortable beds (leg fell off one bed from just sitting on it!) Room felt 'un-aired'. Serious rust issues in the bathroom. Full English breakfast was not exactly full some - definitely 'poor' for £8.00 - Tesco would have been better value for money.

Review 82:Good location, not expensive, friendly staff, shower cubical rather than a bath.

Review 83:The hotel bar was shut by 9pm. WiFi was very hit & miss. Noisy neighbours on the first night!!

Review 84:Good size room for 3 of us. Shower etc was good. Plenty of parking area. Late check in was also useful as we were unsure of our arrival time. Not far off the motorway.

Review 85:We booked this hotel thinking that it would be a quiet place to stay away from the town. Our room overlooked a busy road with constant traffic.noise. I would not stay here again.Too out of the way and too noisy.

Review 86:Downsview is a comfortable and friendly motel with a lot of character. Breakfast was good. The staff recommended excellent places to eat at night and we experienced a very comfortable stay.

Review 87:It's a bit out of the way and on a main road although traffic noise was not too bad. Price quoted did not include breakfast so room was quite expensive compared to elsewhere.

Review 88:Room, cleanliness.

Review 89:1.Shower very weak, inadequate flow of water. 2.Wash basin plug did not work properly to allow water to leave basin at correct rate. 3.Bed sheet fine but then on top a very heavy bedspread which did not provide comfort. The above need correction to provide proper normal comfort.

Review 90:Welcome fine Reception Arrangements well explained Clean Room and Bathroom. Most pleasant staff Well looked after for Continental Breakfast.

Review 91:The inquisition from Sean on Reception on arrival The bathroom had not been properly cleaned. There was no shower gel in the bathroom. There was internet available for 2 whole days

Review 92:As usual in buildings of this age the walls are thin. We had very noisy neighbours. There is little which the owners can do about this except perhaps to have air conditioning which guests could switch on to cancel out the noise. (This is a common problem in hotels and shouldn't put people off coming as apart from these noisy guests the place was silent). We would come again.

Review 93:We stayed in a family room which had more than enough space for two adults and two large teenagers. The old building is beautiful and the room and bathroom were stylish and homely. The excellent breakfast was served by a very friendly and efficient young lady. For a nice change there was a good selection of decent cereals in tubs instead of the tiny little packets. The hotel is really convenient for the channel tunnel and private free parking is a big bonus.A shortish drive will take you into the lovely town of Canterbury, great for a stroll around the little shops or a meal. Instead of the stingy offerings you get in other hotels, we were given loads of PG tip teabags, plenty of milk, yummy biscuits, decent toiletries ironing facilities and everything else you could want. Oh and comfy chairs by a huge bay window in which to sit and dream this was our house!

Review 94:The continental breakfast was not included (we paid 4 pounds) and had toast, cereal, and a few apples. I would recommend spending the 8 pounds on the full English breakfast. Our room did not have any toilet paper when we arrived, and the toilet would not fill up with water between flushing...seems like a simple fix but I expected this to not be a problem.

Review 95:The hotel is not far from Dover where the ferry drops off, or the Chunnel for that matter. There are two restaurants located nearby, with the one just down the road at the roundabout having some delicious ales. The hotel staff was welcoming and available, and even provided electricity adapters during our stay.

Review 96:The staff didn't seem to know what they were doing, the rooms we booked weren't what they had and the cleanliness of the rooms was questionable.

Review 97:Breakfast was good if a little expensive for what it was. Only twenty minutes from Eurochunnel !

Review 98:Nothing, a good nights rest before an early start for the Euro tunnel.

Review 99:Everything, after overcoming our slight apprehension at the rather old worldly impression on first arrival late in the evening. Then a very good nights sleep in a comfortable, clean and well appointed room.

Review 100:The city centre is not in walking distance.

Review 101:My brother and I got an upgrade because room with two single beds were not available. We got the apartment which was great and more we could ask for. Nice staff and good breakfast. The hotel also has a great view over farming land of Ashford.

Review 102:Room shabby, mugs dirty, bathroom floor had someone's hair all around (yuk)no shower gel in shower, asked if we wanted croissants then got one each (they were squashed and soggy)so all in all not a great stay,wi fi didn't work as not switched on but then no one knew the passwords when it was !!!

Review 103:Nothing not sure how they ever won the tv show ,but they wouldn't win it now

Review 104:When we arrived we had to ring the bell twice to get any service, in the bathroom we found an empty shampoo bottle and hairs in the bath The inside of the windows were covered in smeary finger marks, the shower kept running hot and cold, and the throws on the beds didn't look or smell clean.

Review 105:The location was perfect for visiting relatives.

Review 106:The owner was very very rude and obnoxious ,and too me was pi##ed most of the time ,might of caught him on a bad day I don't know?????but was enough too put me off,and im not one of these people who like to moan about things ,

Review 107:Room was comfortable and clean and a nice pub near by with nice food and beer garden so the kids can play.

Review 108:Stayed overnight on returning from holiday in France. Arrived at 8pm in the evening to a friendly welcome. Clean comfortable room and a lovely breakfast. Should have stayed here on the way out to France instead of the holiday inn at Folkestone.

Review 109:Not as welcoming as last year ! I think the owner would be better employing someone with customer care skills as I found him rude and abrupt !

Review 110:Conveniently located to catch the ferry from Dover ! The hotel is very clean, however we didn't sleep very well as the mattress was to soft and the room was too hot !

Review 111:Welcoming staff - no comment. Room boiling, even with windows open. Fan supplied - but too noisy to sleep. Shower - diabolical. A dribble with faint spray going all ways. Shower door stuck shut. Eventually opened it and couldn't shut it while showering. Shower gel and hand wash empty. No other toiletries supplied. Wifi did not work in room - even with supplied code. Cooked breakfast was nice - very sparse though - so for £16, very poor value for money. Would not return

Review 112:Ideal for people like us wanting to catch an early Euroutunnel train, but live too far away from Ashford to get there without having to leavehome at 3am and deal with the m25 in the morning rush hour. We made aleisurely trip down to Downsview the day before our train and had a goodevening meal at The Old Mill pub nearby. Only about 20 mins to AshfordInternational.

Review 113:Cooker hood was dusty, floor was not clean, crumbs on settee and floor

Review 114:2 bedroom apartment was very good, spacious. Gorgeous bath, fantastic master bedroom

Review 115:A cobweb above the overhead lighting in bedroom. This could be easily missed I suppose. No white bread for toast when I went to make it.

Review 116:Friendly greeting. Comfortable room with tea making facilities. Very quiet room on ground floor

Review 117:Initial attitude of proprietor during booking in; the mix-up was not of my doing. Dripping sink tap in the bathroom noisy; I had to remove the pop-up plug to get to sleep. The bath plug was not attached to the chain, but was in a seashell soap dish on the side. The bath plug drain hole was dirty and had hair in it as well. Room above could not have been carpeted; the family staying in it sounded like a herd of elephants moving across the ceiling.

Review 118:Room size was good. Well stocked refreshment tray. Largest TV I've ever had in a hotel room. Excellent car parking area. Easy to find location. Extremely large bed.

Review 119:The gentleman on the desk was rather vague. We still haven't recd receipt for our stay - was promised by email. TV downstairs very loud at 1 am in the morning and had to go and complain, plus lights blazing in our bedroom window - noise and lights were remedied after we complained. Apart from that thought everything was good.

Review 120:The 2 girls in the breakfast room were excellent, very helpful when asking questions and/or directions, always cheerful and obliging.

Review 121:We don`t do Full English, so had the continental. Well, don`t bother. A pot of "Instant" coffee. A meagre selection of cereals and a 4" long croissant heated via microwave, very thin very soggy.Shame really.

Review 122:nice comfortable quiet room.Pleasant staff.Good parking.

Review 123:Only a standard "English" breakfast is on offer plus croissants. Muesli, fruit, porridge and some cold meats, boiled eggs and cheese would each be a good addition.

Review 124:This small hotel is unpretentious and simple but very comfortable and friendly. The location is excellent for the Channel tunnel. We will be back.

Review 125:Promised free wifi. Not able to connect on more than one device, signal booster being used and not up to much. Walls thin so could hear noise from guests next door. Shower rubbish. No power, clogged with calcium and controls a nightmare to master to get correct temp. Calcium build up in tap also so water spraying out towards you. Simple fixes but poor maintenance. Paid £61 but only worth £40

Review 126:Friendly welcome.

The Fine Print
