Reviews for Village Hotel Solihull

Review 1:We arrived late in the evening & found the hotel bar was rather smelly. It was improved the following day but not perfect.

Review 2:Clean rooms and comfy beds with a good breakfast choice.

Review 3:My wife was violently sick about 4 hrs after eating dinner (the fillet steak in Asian broth) and brought it all back. Of course, we can't be certain there was a link, but the meal is the most likely cause.

Review 4:It is a nice hotel that is well located for what we want.

Review 5:The room was booked for 2 adults and 2 children and had informed them of feather allergies. We arrived at 11pm to find the 2 kid beds were not made up and it was a nuisance getting that sorted. The room only had equipment for 2 people ie 2 towels and 2 cups ect. We were woken up by housekeeping at 8:20am. Really not acceptable as we were only staying one night and there was no need to trouble us that early. Had we wanted to wake early we would have stayed at my sisters house and the reason for our hotel visit was to have a good nights sleep after our long drive.

Review 6:Large room, nice restaurant for breakfast

Review 7:Minor stuff... ...Room lighting very trendy but too dim ...Coffee shop much more expensive than others in the same chain

Review 8:Very good gym & swimming pool.

Review 9:The breakfast was massively understaffed, it took 5 minutes do sit us. The cleaning staff were trying to enter rooms at 830, surely this should be after check out. If I had been woken up I would have been very annoyed, as I saw happen to a room when we were getting info the lift.

Review 10:Hotel was clean. Rooms were made well

Review 11:Booking.com wrongly allocated room. According to hotel staff this happens 'all the time'. Won't be using the app again

Review 12:Loved the hotel for resolving booking.com error

Review 13:the lighting is poor in bedroom and reception area not good for people with eye problem also for size of hotel insufficient to have only 1 lift . only 1 stressed receptionist at time of arrival unfortunately was given an occupied room luckily no one was in room at time (how embarrassing that could of been) but mistake was sorted quickly hope points raised will be looked into

Review 14:staff helpful, breakfast plenty of choice so something for everyone

Review 15:N/A

Review 16:Loved the hotel the location and the value for money. The open fires and the Xmas atmosphere was lovely. The restaurant food was good. Asked to change room to the 3rd floor when we first checked in not an issue lady at reception sorted it out straight away but the only problem was we was given a room that was ideal for people with disabilities or mobility access. We was not told this when we was given the room. Problem with the basin to low. Apart from that excellent hotel did not try the gym or pool. Will visit again definitely. Will definitely recommend :-)

Review 17:The reception staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The food was excellent, and the room was fantastic. Couldn't have chosen a better place to stay! :oD

Review 18:On arrival I was told that food service had stopped being served (baring in mind that it was only 9.30 and most commercial hotels run room service for 24 hours). I then got to my room to see that although I had a superior room, there were hardly any appliances (fridge, hair dryer etc). The cutlery in the room was not cleaned so we had to do this ourselves on arrival also. The following day, our sheets were not changed, however the room maids simply re-layed the sheets that were already there the night before (I know this due to make up still being on the sheets). On the evening of my second night we rang down for room service around 9pm and was told that as there is a party, room service was not available. However, we could order off the "pub" menu (baring in mind we had to pay extra for the superior stay). When making our order, we were requested to add a card on file down at reception and bring our food to our room ourselves, although we requested to pay cash. They made it difficult to pay cash until finally this was accepted (where is the room service?).

Review 19:I don't think the price justifies my stay.

Review 20:The television kept going due to poor satellite signal. This is not a one off as it happened the last time we stayed. Also reception took upto 10 minutes to answer the phone and the main restaurant was not serving food that night however the menu was in the room!

Review 21:The bed was comfy

Review 22:The soundbar on my tv did not work, Reported 5 times during the evening, including going down to reception twice but never came to fix it. Very poor service and no ability to complain in morning as only night staff on duty when i checked out.

Review 23:All good

Review 24:Great spa facilities. Brilliant steam room and Sauna. Bed very comfy. Good atmosphere in the bar. Short taxi ride to Genting Arena. Taxi £15 each way

Review 25:Cleaning staff walked into the room luckily we were up and dressed but not their fault as someone had switched the door tag around.... a better method of indication of room occupancy should be available.

Review 26:The comfortable surroundings of the room and the extras, the breakfast was the best! ?

Review 27:My room was incredibly cold and it took a number of calls to reception and finally after 2 hours of getting chilled me moving rooms to resolve it. Communication wasn't great I had to keep chasing reception.

Review 28:Good price good location close to Solihull.

Review 29:Stains on chairs in bar, stains on curtains in rooms damaged and dirty tables and chairs in Bar, presentation of breakfast was awful

Review 30:Bar food was good, room facilities were good

Review 31:Credit card was used as guarantee for the reservation but even before arrival/check-in the complete invoice amount was deducted without any authorization, In addition to that, by mistake there was a lower amount charged to credit card at first and with the second transaction the correct amount, but the incorrect first transaction is not refunded yet. No Minibar/cooler in the room, no litter box in the room (in the bath only), Internet connection quite slow during evening, light in the wardrobe defect, handle bar of the wardrobe defect, the blind was defect as well (could not pull up the blind, felt down again immediately), no coat hook available although the walls are empty

Review 32:Parking directly in front of the hotel, Starbucks in house

Review 33:The room was gloomy and poorly lit, the shower control dripped loudly all night and I got an upset stomach a few hours after ordering room service.

Review 34:The mattress was comfortable.

Review 35:Stairs door was right outside our room, so it keep slamings,The kraoke the saturday night was tooooo load, our room was above the bar,

Review 36:Very friendley staffs, breakfast was very good lots of diffrend choices to choose from, evening meal was outstanding, supper.

Review 37:The initial welcome at reception was a bit surly, in fact all through our stay a couple of the receptionists appeared to be rude to everyone. We had a top deck room. The children had an adjoining standard room. Bizarrely their room was much nicer.

Review 38:The breakfast was delicious. The staff in both the bar and the restaurant were helpful, polite and efficient. Our rooms were comfortable.

Review 39:nothing

Review 40:hotel was immaculate, as soon as we walked in we were impressed. Smelt lovely and clean aswell. Greeted politely at the desk both when we checked in and checked out. Had a problem with our TV not working but was resolved straight away and staff couldn't apologise enough. Will defiantly be back had a great time

Review 41:The lighting in the room was very poor. The shower was in one end of the bath tub and the mixer on the other end. There was no point of upgrading to the upper deck room the room was small and cramped and stuffy. There was hair in the bathtub clogged up and there were water bottle caps which wernt ours.

Review 42:It was nice that they had a swimming pool and hot tub however the chlorine levels was too high in the water.

Review 43:Not something I'd didn't 'like' but just found the location a little out of the way. Having said that parking was easy!

Review 44:Lovely staff, excellent facilities, cleanliness and hygiene within hotel. Fab breakfast!

Review 45:Nothing excellent

Review 46:Very helpfully And friendly staff good facilities everything you require at location clean and comfortable room .would definitely return many thanks for an enjoyable stay .

Review 47:BEWARE - if you don't book directly with the hotel you will be charged £5 extra to use the gym and pool (basically you are paying for their costs to use booking.com). Reception under staffed so takes a long time to check in and out, leave extra time in the morning to check out.

Review 48:Hotel very modern and excellent facilities.

Review 49:We ate in the verve restaurant, the stroganoff was tasteless and cold and the desserts were awful also the hotel has 3 coffee machines but we couldn't get a latte we were told all 3 were not working and the restaurant was really cold .

Review 50:I booked this hotel for my daughter and I as part of an 18th birthday trip for her. This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in, and I've stayed in some three times more expensive, and not had the excellent experience I had at the village. Everything was perfect, staff were outstanding, and the food exquisite. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 51:No toiletries in bathroom. Booked superior suite so at least expected toothpaste and body lotion. View from room was a bit ugly as we looked over vast roof of, I'm assuming, the gym or pool?

Review 52:Lots of free parking! Stunning looking building from the outside and even better in! Happy, welcoming staff at reception. Gorgeous smell! Quick check in. Fantastic room! Amazing TV and Sky!. Lovely bar area. Comfy bed! Set price taxi £8 into Solihull. Only £6 on the way back! Delicious breakfast! We will be back I'm sure!

Review 53:Had trouble with new TV and wifi.

Review 54:Had a lovely stay. Used the spa facilities. Breakfast was lovely. Had dinner at the grill. Everything under one roof.

Review 55:Would like real office chair at working desk for business travelers.

Review 56:Modern, stylish and quiet hotel. Full access to pool and fitness room. Good internet connection. Public restaurant and separate bar. Good accessibility including parking facilities in Solihull area.

Review 57:The hotel was over booked and could only give me a double bed even though I had booked twin singles. Also at breakfast the coffee was not 'help yourself' and took 25 mins to arrive.

Review 58:The staff were friendly and helpful even though they were short staffed.

Review 59:hotel decoration is tired, no water in room, no tissues in room, aircon in room only worked after 07:00 on Saturday and Sunday Mornings, no night room service

Review 60:leaving was the best bit

Review 61:After a long journey we looked forward to an enjoyable dinner; what we got (rump steak) was the worst possible, chewiest piece of rubbish that either of us can remember (with fast food outlet "fries" - whatever happened to real chips? No chef worth his title should ever allow this out of his kitchen! Otherwise, the room, although good, would benefit from improved lighting and, oh dear, where is the second occupant expected to sit - on the bed I suppose?

Review 62:Good and immaculately clean standard room and excellent bathroom. Excellent friendly and helpful staff from check-in to checkout - it was obvious that they had received a very high standard of training at all levels. Great breakfast, fresh and well prepared even at very busy times.

Review 63:If you like a dark room take some blu-tac to stick over the stupidly bright clock on the tv that sits right opposite the bed. Makes you wonder if the room designers ever actually try to sleep in these places. Nonsense. If you're vegan think about where you can eat around the hotel, it's not very vegan friendly at all.

Review 64:Lovely decor, has a starbucks and a great pub as well as the restaurant.

Review 65:On are first night we had to call security on are floor there were peoples having a party in there room security was very slow at comeing up to sort it out,we did Not geT much sleep CoMplained at reception that need better security at night time

Review 66:Good service clean hotel nice pool nice modern bathrooms.

Review 67:Poor view from room.

Review 68:The quality of service was excellent and the staff was very helpful. The rooms was quality however there was no view at all from my room but, this still didn't ruin my stay. Thank you very much.

Review 69:service in the bar was poor, we waited ages for our food & it wasn't busy - although when we complained about it they said it was - there was a large function in so this probably effected things - bathroom still had dirt in it

Review 70:location

Review 71:The food was not good at all. Pub food overpriced and poor quality, tasteless burgers and oven chips for £9! Salad was a few green leaves and a chopped tomato! breakfast poor, using low cost ingredients, cheap bread, cardboard cereals, cheapest nasty sugary beans and tinned mushrooms - ugggh! One of the breakfast staff was miserable and moody and should she not be working there.

Review 72:The rooms - fantastic design

Review 73:At our first breakfast staff were very disorganised and there was a long wait to be seated, however there were young members of staff wondering round doing nothin but trying to look busy. I had to ask three times for coffee and also three time about the reflenishment of an item of breakfast before I got an answer. I even witnessed the young male restaurant manager throw a cloth down in temper on the table...not very professional in public! At our second breakfast which I was dreading it was a different set of staff and service was efficient and well organised, completely different from the day before. Would like to see a selection of cheeses on the continental side if the breakfast please?

Review 74:Hotel was comfortable, modern with good facilities and the food was good quality

Review 75:Breakfast choice not up to standard of that we are used to in St David's. Not a full menu available on either the Saturday or Sunday dinners same shortages both days.

Review 76:All staff great room nice and clean large room.relaxing atmosphere,

Review 77:No business centre or printer available for guests. Although staff at reception were happy to help if I emailed the document to them

Review 78:Extremely helpful staff at every stage, especially Kay on the reception.

Review 79:Restaurant is very poor, Poor service, Slow & meal standard is quite poor. Eaten here several times so was not just a one off!

Review 80:Rooms are very good, Public areas are good,

Review 81:As above ! We have a wedding booked in Solihull and many friends have already booked in your hotel myself included , I feel a little anxious now after my first experience of frustration !!!

Review 82:Disappointed with room service ! I paid full amount £99 inc breakfast Arrived late 8.30ish so didn't want to eat in the resturant so ordered room service- trying to get through took for ages ! anyway the meal arrived without a knife or fork !!!! Again trying to make contact with reception was extremely disappointing!!!!!!!eventually got through !! Then the meal was cold I was too tired to complain !

Review 83:nothing.

Review 84:Everything.. stayed on the half board basis and it was excellent!! Staff very polite and helpful, breakfast and the three course dinner were well presented and all in all very good value for money, would stay again definitely. thank you to the team.

Review 85:We booked a double room had two single beds pushed together so when we moved so did the beds not ideal for a married couple

Review 86:The staff very friendly and hotel beautiful

Review 87:1 lift often waiting around. Location not great. Often seemed like a health leisure club as opposed to a hotel.

Review 88:The quality and staff in the Restaurant were exceptional, great value for money and very helpful.

Review 89:My carpet needed a good clean, there were stains all over the place. Also my main towel was not fully white and my bathmat was stained too

Review 90:The staff are so friendly and helpful, they made the stay for me!

Review 91:Bar started closing before 22:00 so staff could head off. Bar run for benefit of staff not guests. Not V. good for so-called 'resort'.

Review 92:Decor of room

Review 93:The first room we were given was dirty (stains on the bed, and a dirty sink and shower) which is the last thing you want when arriving at 11pm, however the staff were friendly and efficient and changed us to their only other spare room (unfortunately a twin). This room was cleaner (although not ammaculate - seems picky but it was an wasn't a cheap room) but I found it was lacking a few touches which I would expect for the price like decent pillows, (or at least spares) TV channels which made sense, and conditioner in the bathroom. (again my opinion is based on the price tag associated with the room) I would stay at the Village again as the location is great, as are the facilities and staff, I would just make sure I arrive early next time so any issues can be addressed. I would also say only stay there on a Saturday if you don't mind a little noise as it's a very busy hotel.

Review 94:This hotel has good facilities, friendly staff and a nice vibe.

Review 95:We had a lovely room and the bed was very comfortable. I had requested a quiet room as I am a light sleeper but they put us right beside the direct doors to the lift!! I was also woken at 2.30am by a resident shouting to get in to her room which wasn't the hotels fault but the night porter came up and he shouted to the occupant to let her enter!! The breakfast was a bit disappointing, could do with more variety of fruit and fresh hot food.I didn't like the bar area. we bought drinks and sat out in the foyer.

Review 96:Very nice clean room and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was beautiful and very clean. I thought it was great value.

Review 97:Not sure why they had winter quilts in the summer. Room was stuffy, air con used, but affected my wife with some sort of allergy, so had to switch off.

Review 98:Modern, clean and fresh.

Review 99:We regularly visit the village and enjoy every visit! This time we were visiting for our anniversary weekend. Staff were very friendly, facilities were brilliant. We also attended the hotels wedding fair! We found and booked a lovely wedding cake maker. So once again we had a great time.

Review 100:I thought it was quite expensive. We had stayed in a family room in aPremier Inn in London the night before for half the price and they wereof similar standard. We asked staff for local activities for childrenand were politely advised to google it.

Review 101:The room was good although not initially set up as requested (2 extrabeds for kids). That was quickly rectified with no fuss by friendlystaff. The gym was excellent.

Review 102:The only downfall is that I had was to go to the village in Coventry for a full body massage cause I was told that this service is not done here.

Review 103:The room deco was very relaxing and calming. I love the the colours. The spa and the food

Review 104:We had to leave early before breakfast but the staff arranged for us to take a bacon sarnie and a coffee with us. It was no trouble to them and just made us feel valued. Very impressed

Review 105:Didn't have one

Review 106:Staff were very helpful , Vicki m was most helpful , all the staff can't do enough for you from reception to bar to waiting staff , very l well run hotel and would be going back with friends

Review 107:Found decor very dark

Review 108:Good atmosphere helpful staff comfy bed restaurant good friendly waiting staff - room decor dark but otherwise good - strange shower/bath controls. Wish we'd realised spa facilities inclusive looked v good. We'll definitely be back!

Review 109:Temperature. It was way too hot in the room! Tried turning down thermostat but it goes off when you leave the room (electricity comes on through inserting room key card) and at night it's too noisy

Review 110:Well presented clean rooms. Bar and on site leisure facilities great

Review 111:I woke up at 2in the night I was hungry I went to the reception to ask for food there was no food available not good at all

Review 112:There was nothing to really like

Review 113:Not a bad experience, but an irritating feature of the bedrooms where there is no draws to put anything in if you stay for a few days. Living out a suitcase does not make for an enjoyable stay.

Review 114:Good choice at breakfast. Friendly staff always very obliging and helpful. Car park very near and easy to find a space.

Review 115:Only 2pillows needed to ask for more but easily located.Cleaner knocked door to come in and clean ,despite note do not disturb, and still in allocated room time .

Review 116:Room,and the price

Review 117:Steam room smelled earthy. So I recommend you adding some perfume or Olbas.

Review 118:Staff were very friendly, and particularly Megan. she was courteous and her lovely smile made me feel warmly welcomed.

Review 119:To be picky, I would say; Rooms needed to be dusted if empty for a few days. We didn't find the child's bed till the morning. Ties for staff, their attire appears unfinished.

Review 120:We loved the vibrant atmosphere, upbeat and attentive staff. The decor was modern and the facilities warranted an extra star rating. Starbucks :) needed extra time to visit the gym, sauna & restaurant. Would stay for a few days next time.

Review 121:Nothing really but if I had to think of a gripe I would say the stairwells are quite darkly painted.

Review 122:The pool gym and breakfast . The rooms were a good size and clean and modern. The staff were at hand and always willing to help .

Review 123:Only one elevatorand therefore sometimes had to wait a bit.Not really much to complain about

Review 124:The cleanliness impressed me. I am pretty fussy about this and usually not many places I would feel as comfortable with. The breakfast was great. As we were staying two nights I went upstairs to get my jacket before I went into town and the young woman cleaning our room was very helpful and friendly. It is very important that everyone in hospitality is friendly and helpful and your staff were all very nice

Review 125:Shower head needs descaling as full of lime scale and blocking jets. Corridors noisy on Saturday night with other guests and woke us up.

Review 126:Hotel room and bed nicer than imagined for the price and facilities good such as tea, ironing board and TV! Nice furnishings in room

Review 127:I happened to have an adjoining room. It was very noisy, almost as if I was sharing with the person next door. Especially when he decided to have a long phone call late at night. The bedroom doors could do with a controlled closing mechanism as when people leave there rooms early morning or late at night they slam shut.

Review 128:I was happy that there was free wifi and free parking. Also the complimentary vouchers for Starbucks, food and the gym.

Review 129:Expensive room. Food expensive but very nice. Breakfast was extremely poor, not much selection for price.

Review 130:Room is very comfy with good TV and comfy but small desk to work from. Good modern decor with nice bathroom. Room service efficient, food expensive. Business area modern and spacious. Receptionist very friendly. Bar area is good.

Review 131:The colour of the paint in the room which makes the room dark and also the mattress is not comfortable at all. Also no draws in the room.

Review 132:The good price to use the fitness facilities

Review 133:my boyfriend and i stayed here for 1 night and really enjoyed our stay. Room tasteful decor and comfy bed.we made the most of the steam room sauna and jaccuzi. Would def recommend!

Review 134:No peace at all. Positioned right above the main door. People talking all night must have been woken up 8 times from 11pm right through to 5am-also walking past our room.could have maybe understood if it was an airport hotel. Family changing room in leisure centre was filthy

Review 135:Room was spacious.bed comfortable

Review 136:There was a Aqua class at the same time, therefore we were unable to use the swimming facilities Also with family room, beds on floor Wifi: not very good in bedrooms

Review 137:Range of provision, including restaurants and spa on site

Review 138:we loved everything

Review 139:the pool and the steam room also we stayed in a up graded room which had everything we needed also the staff at breakfast where very helpfull

Review 140:Room 230 - Was just dressing in bedroom when a man walked in with his case! He had a key and had been allocated my room by mistake. VERY EMBARRASING!

Review 141:Room was quiet and comfortable but no fridge (Need special milk for tea and coffee) and also to keep bottled water cool Good parking and leisure facilities

Review 142:Couldn't dial room service and couldn't get through to reception so had to go down. When ordering was told 3.50 charge for room service but I had to walk down!! This was only bad thing really. Oh wifi always rubbish as stayed a few times

Review 143:Ben was friendly in front desk when checking in and rooms are good value for your money.free parking which is good
