Reviews for Carlton Park Hotel Rotherham/Sheffield

Review 1:The bar staff were not great at all. I ordered a bar meal and could only find a table that someone else had obviously been sitting at. When the meal came a lady member of the bar staff just plonked it down without wiping the table. She then returned to the bar passing lots of tables with dirty glasses on, without attempting to take any of them with her. When I left after eating my food, a while later, the glasses were still sitting there. It wasn't even as if the bar was busy. The plates at breakfast weren't too clean either.

Review 2:The lady on reception was great. The room was Ok.

Review 3:Check in person talked to someone else continuously as he checked us in which I found rude Bathroom could of done with a thorough clean as black mould around the bath Hotel seemed very dated

Review 4:Good location Value you money Large car park

Review 5:The pool was cold and over chlorinated, the steam room condemned and out of use a lot of the pool lighting not working and the jacuzzi very salty. The changing rooms are pretty grim, I feel all the moneys been spent on the hotel and none of it on maintaining the Spa which was one of the reasons I booked here. It was lovely a couple of years ago with only the changing room letting it down

Review 6:The breakfast and friendly housekeeping staff. Clean well maintained rooms.

Review 7:My mother had a heart attack and I told the receptionist that we had to leave, she just wanted me to pay. It was very public, I was crying and I found her unhelpful.

Review 8:Room

Review 9:The noisy neighbours but that's not the hotels fault as they tried to get them to be quiet and even told the parents in the morning.

Review 10:Very good service frank on the main desk was very polite and helped us out moving us to a bigger room without us even asking

Review 11:They did not have a record of the booking when we arrived. The Restaurant was closed as were the leisure facilities, which was very disappointing. We had to go out to eat.

Review 12:Our room 420 was very nice, warm and cosy. The breakfast was ok, although the cooked choices were limited.

Review 13:Receptionist when we arrived wasn't very friendly and made us wait for the room that was probably ready. Would have liked a few more tea and coffee sachets.

Review 14:Location to meadow hall. Easy to get to off the motorway. Excellent value for money.

Review 15:Main downside is that smokers' spot is under front canopy, first impressions are stale cigarette smoke before you've crossed threshold. Hotel is great inside but new visitors won't know that - once you've stepped in it's fine

Review 16:Rooms are clean, staff are lovely (helpful, polite & friendly) Pool & gym are great!

Review 17:Double bed very small. Photos on website for pool very misleading. Pool was Tiny!! website said there was a steamroom and Jacuzzi but both were out of order. Parts of hotel were dirty and there was a smell of stale smoke

Review 18:Bedroom clean with plenty of good towels and handwash. Parking. Breakfast was fair and lovely conservatory to sit in

Review 19:The breakfast area on the 2nd day could have done with a bit of refurbishment,as wallpaper was ripped and dirty in the room. Some of the spa facilities we could not use as out of order.

Review 20:We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the lovely food. We attended a theme evening and this was very enjoyable. We also enjoyed the pool.

Review 21:no bad experience because we know what to expect after several visits over the last 4 years....quality of food very average....rooms in need of a face-lift... old antiquated furniture and fittings... even Four Poster rooms have no modern facilities....poor TV sets, no air-con , no mini-bar...!!

Review 22:pool, gym are good restaurant well laid out staff very good and always willing to help

Review 23:The cleanliness was very very poor. Long hairs on bed. Cobwebs Corners and carpets obviously not been touched for very long time. Room appliances were very dirty, didn't want to touch the telephone and remote, never mind using them. Just felt we could relax or let our child use anything because of how dirty it was. Expected the hotel to be nice but was a disappointment especially as we stayed Christmas Eve.

Review 24:Location

Review 25:Noise from functions in the hotel kept us up a little at night The restaurant was also quite disappointing. There were no 'bar meals' or small meals available, and not even a kids menu. Apparently it had changed for Christmas?? Instead we were only offered an overpriced full dinner menu. I'd say... eat next door in the brentwood

Review 26:The reception staff were great, really friendly and helpful. The pool was small, and doesn't have a shallow end for kids, but still fab

Review 27:I have stayed there a few times now. Breakfast staff always pleasant and helpful. Reception staff different. No smiles or pleasant greetings ever and I have been left stood waiting to check in and out often even when staff are in back office. Bar staff are hit and miss.

Review 28:Bar food is good and rooms are clean.

Review 29:As soon as we opened the door we noticed the smell of unclean drains, a lot of cobwebs hanging from light fittings and ceilings, stains on bedspread. Coffee stains on wall under TV. Small double bed. dirty sticky breakfast cups, unclean cutlery, not asked whether we wanted any tea or toast with our breakfast,

Review 30:Bedroom was quiet, flannels supplied, towels clean and fresh, Good nights sleep

Review 31:Upon returning to our room at apprx 9pm the entire corridor had a heavy smell of cannabis. We reported the matter to reception who said matter would be dealt with and that we would be updated. This did not happen and at approx 11pm we had to change rooms along with our 6 month old baby and 2 year old son, when the smell started to penetrate our room. I feel that the staff were unsure of how to deal with the incident or perhaps fearful of confrontation. Not good enough.

Review 32:We have stayed at the hotel as we do like the facilities and location of the hotel.

Review 33:the wireless was very poor in my room and in general not that strong.

Review 34:breakfast was good and alot. Personal was friendly as you can expect from the british. The Room was clean.

Review 35:Asked staff at bar for a pot of tea and two sandwiches. They refused us, as they said we would have to order off the menu, which included soup, chips and sandwich all on the one order. All we wanted was a quick bite to eat as we were heading to a party later on!

Review 36:Free car parking as it should be in every hotel for its customers!

Review 37:The hotel did not inform us there would be a disco outside our room window that went on until 12,40, then people shouting and whistling as they were leaving up to 1 am, at 2am the fire alarm went off (false alarm) and at 4 am people were running up and down the corridor, we thought it sounded like someone playing football !! all in all a great hotel with great food and good disabled facilities, spoilt by the worse nights sleep I have had in a hotel, compounded by the staffs apathy, when I complained

Review 38:The spa changing rooms were dirty, very small to say how many people were in them at one time. Pool is very small There was an hour wait for food so with 2 hungry kids we had to drive into Rotherham.

Review 39:the bedrooms were nicely decorated

Review 40:I asked for a twin room and was given a double! When I contacted reception I was told tough all the rooms are taken as there is a wedding party stoping! I complained again the next morning but the duty manager was in helpful.

Review 41:The spa facilities and breakfast

Review 42:the restaurant crockery was dirty. The silver teapots were very very badly stained.. The staff knocked into me accidientally but the oily dish caught me shirt and stained it. The cups and plates were very unclean The bathroom was very hairy

Review 43:rooms and spar

Review 44:a lot of noise from below our room in the afternoon when we arrived.

Review 45:very comfortable rooms, value for money, night porter provided beautiful and reasonably priced sandwiches after our late return from concert!

Review 46:Not moaning - but I have a thing about 'hot plates' especially at breakfast. Although the plates were adjacent to the food on the top of the server they were clay cold. Hot plates are always required for a breakfast to stop the food such as egg, bacon congealing making it in the end unpleasant to eat. There would appear to be no heating 'drop' to place plates in to heat up. My evening dinner was excellent but it did take 20 mins. for the dessert to be served !

Review 47:The opportunity to use the Spa.

Review 48:The only thing I would have liked would be a slightly softer bed and a duvet instead of blanket and quilt cover. (Even though they were immaculately clean and stylish)

Review 49:I travel with a dog and sometimes feel I am treated like a second class citizen. That wasn't the case at all at this hotel and found it comfortable with pleasant staff

Review 50:Room was spotless and the staff were very helpful/kind. Also the breakfast was second to none. We stayed for two nights as we had a funeral to attend in Rotherham, the room service was exceptional and we found the bar very relaxing and homely

Review 51:Class hotel, room great with everything you need, It had a spar with a Sauna swimming pool and gym.The food was excelent, great bar and the staff where top class. One of the best weekends we have had,

Review 52:Steam Room not working. Breakfast was poor. Crockery and tea pots dirty and had to wait a long time for the food to be replenished.

Review 53:Comfortable hotel. Reasonable spa

Review 54:No shampoo at all ! Way too hot in the room (and I couldn't open the window as my room was over a flat roof) and freezing cold at breakfast. Eggs looked horrible at breakfast. Parking is very tight if you have a larger car. Double room is very small.

Review 55:Good location, plenty of food at breakfast. Free parking. Good wifi.

Review 56:The staff were very welcoming and helpful , the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The evening meal and entertainment were also very good and overall good value for money.

Review 57:poor decor and dated. Breakfast was not great. steam room was out of order. Booked late so paid much more than I thought the hotel was worth.

Review 58:It was clean

Review 59:Noisy from function and guests. Fire alarm went off at 1.30am - false alarm. Full of large groups, staff had no time for individual guests. Room service took an hour and 4 attempts to get order correct.

Review 60:Convenient location

Review 61:Hotel was a little tired in some places. Paid extra for a 4 poster bed and the room was clean and comfy but tired.

Review 62:We went for a wedding and surprisingly the food was excellent.

Review 63:There were two weddings and a party going on which meant that the hotel was busy and noisy with music and banging doors well after midnight.

Review 64:The staff were very helpful at reception.

Review 65:Overall decor looks a bit tired.Swimming pool very small.

Review 66:The staff were very pleasant, especially the lady in the dining room on Sunday morning offering more toast and tea or coffee. Bathroom was spotlessly clean.

Review 67:The shower was the worst we've ever experienced. It was like a child's watering can. Wi-fi never worked once, despite trying over and over. 1st kettle filthy inside, second kettel filthy inside, in the end the manager sent a staff member out for a new one - worrying to think they couldn't find a clean one in the whole place. Breakfast was disorganised. Teabags were out, but I had to ask for boiling water for them and wait for it to be brought. I had to ask for toast, she put it down and I had to go after her to ask if there was anything I could put on it! Eggs were either over done or under done (self service.) We didn't like the way staff were spoken to by the manager at breakfast - we even saw him waving his finger at 2 young guys who looked new on the job. Not nice. Staff didn't seem happy. Sorry, we wouldn't recommend this place.

Review 68:The place was fairly clean. Location good; near enough to where we wanted, but nice and quiet. Nice view from our room, out the back.

Review 69:If anything the hotel was let down by the breakfast arrangements - large dark room (but with nice conservatory option), tables not laid for a single person or couple, limited choice of food. No one approached me to offer tea and toast - I had to ask.

Review 70:Cheerful welcoming reception staff, good wifi reception, plenty of parking, not far to walk into the centre of Rotherham (but beware that it is all uphill walking back!).

Review 71:I was appalled at what was served as a pie the bar staff seemed to be under a lot of pressure and therspa changing rooms were disgustinge was an atmosphere between them, the

Review 72:the bed was very comfortable and the room niceand quiet

Review 73:On the last day, as we were checking out, there was one member of staff that was particularly rude and abrupt. It's a shame because before that, the staff were very friendly and well mannered.

Review 74:It was all brilliant. Breakfast buffet was fresh and such a wide choice (full English/ fruit/ pastries/ cereal...) Had a restaurant that was open until late with plenty of deals on. Very clean and high standard.

Review 75:I had the prawn cocktail. Serving it with "brown bread Mother's Pride" smeared with margarine is poor. Can't the hotel manage some interesting bread and butter? The cheap Booker's special marge was absolutely disgusting

Review 76:The staff, especially the Austrian waitress, she was just lovely. The food was good except for one item

Review 77:The shower was poor and was positioned over a bath. In my opinion hotel rooms should upgrade to shower cubicles.

Review 78:The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room we had was at the back of the hotel away from the road, overlooking the beautiful Thomas Rotherham College.

Review 79:Bar staff struggled to take food orders competently and seemed to have lack of training. Service slow

Review 80:Friendly good value and excellent food and nice leisure facilities

Review 81:Nice hotel breakfast is on top of price which is over £10 each extra ..Unfortunately we stayed 2 nights very noisey with parties going on got to sleep on one at 2 am!! and had a early start so not happy

Review 82:Hotel was very hot and breakfast disappointing. Something in the apple juice and strawberries past their best. Dirty tea cups and chairs

Review 83:Room clean and comfy

Review 84:The hotel is tired and service lacklustre to the degree of poor. Breakfast very poor and chaotic.

Review 85:The room and the swimming pool and jacuzzi were great.

Review 86:There was a slight smell like drains in our room. Someone was running up and down the corridor early in the morning, sounded like a child. Bar prices were a bit expensive.

Review 87:Quiet location. Good parking facilities. Facilities in general

Review 88:There were screw heads protruding at mid back height in the sauna which we reported to staff at the time who did not seem concerned, given how dangerous hot sharp metal is in a darkened room at the place where you lean back! The manager responded to an email sent afterwards but that's hardly good enough really.

Review 89:Spa facilities we're ok if small room was nice size and well equipped, good bed.

Review 90:Reception staff in arrival not very friendly appeared disinterested, staff on breakfast duty appeared disinterested...... Still waiting for tea and toast! Didn't like walking through a cloud of smoke at main entrance upon returning to the hotel in the evening, approximately 10 people near main entrance smoking. As an asthmatic and with a young child it was completely inappropriate and unnecessary. Surely a separate area away from the main entrance? Staff on reception in the morning we left wa a lovely very friendly and professional.

Review 91:Room was lovely, comfortable bed and good breakfast.

Review 92:The wifi went down shortly after I arrived and was still not working in the morning. That was frustrating.

Review 93:Helpful staff, especially at breakfast when I asked for scrambled eggs. A freshly-prepared plate arrived quickly.

Review 94:Nothing

Review 95:We stayed here for a night at the Arena. The hotel was clean and the rooms were perfect for one night away. Bathrooms were fine and the shower was great. The breakfast was good. Taxi fare to the arena was about £10 each way.

Review 96:Restaurant was nice but the food was a little bit disappointing, The fish pie starter was uninspiring. Also the trend in a lot of restaurants now is to serve meals on chunks of wood or slate. can we return to plates please; we are not Neanderthals!!!!

Review 97:The facilities were excellent, from the room to the spa. Everyone was friendly, smiling and helpful.

Review 98:Queuing up for what seemed like forever for breakfast. Indifferent welcome at reception

Review 99:Proximity to relatives I was visiting. Polite and respectful cleaning staff

Review 100:Room 215 was near the fire escape doors that led to staff storeroom. Banging doors early and late at night were annoying. In saying this, once we complained we were offered another room, thin, cheap toilet paper and very limited complimentary tea and coffee.

Review 101:Central for our needs, secure accommodation and windows that opened.

Review 102:There was a very loud disco (even on the 4th floor it felt like we were on the dance floor) which went on into the small hours.

Review 103:The hot tub in the spa.

Review 104:At 2.30am my son an I were woken by a party in the room next door. I phoned reception and asked them to deal with it. They phoned the room and asked them to be quiet. Ineffective and useless.

Review 105:Asked for a quiet room, given one next to the lift, so disturbed by everyone on that floor. Breakfast disappointing, sausage rock hard, eggs dried out. Not acceptable for these prices. Only 2 tea bags and 2 sachets of sugar. More thought required regarding room allocation.

Review 106:Staff excellent as before. Good WiFi connection, free parking and real ales in the bar!

Review 107:Restaurant: I had high hopes, but couldn't eat my dish...I returned it. My son got his hamburger on a toast...No comments. One out of us three had a great dinner. And they took hours to bring it.... not worth it. I looked for hotels close to Ice rink... it was 7km away...not really that close....

Review 108:My most important requirement is a quiet room and that is what I got. Excellent value for money, very helpful staff, comfortable and very accessable. The gym and pool were a bonus.

Review 109:Unfortunately we were unable to shower before going to a family dinner as there was no hot water on our floor. To be fair they offered to move us but having unpacked and got ready to shower, not possible.

Review 110:Bar,restaurant, food.

Review 111:There was loud music played at night which disturbed sleep. The bathroom was small and shower water was warm.

Review 112:I liked the facilities that you had to offer like the gym and swimming pool. The space of the room was not bad

Review 113:bar and food service bad. music playing load until 1am pounding in our room .fire alarm set of at 2am .bed very small .breakfast cold .catering for outside party more than residents

Review 114:leaving

Review 115:Room a bit tired (pealing paintwork etc) despite having had an overhaul. The pool and spa were advertised as having luxury changing facilities - this is wholly untrue. The changing area was so small there are no actual rooms in it, and 4 people made it full. The floor was disgustingly filthy with the 1 shower flowing into the minute space people were trying to change in. There were 9 people in the very small pool, which made it overcrowded. Ended up going back upstairs.

Review 116:Comfy bed, decent breakfast, good location, polite staff, clean

Review 117:Staff dress and presentation was poor. Food was less than impressive. Room was small (for a double) and not very comfortable. Really could do with updating. WiFi in bedrooms was so intermittant it was useless. In a modern age surely this can be seen to.

Review 118:the very very small changing room by the swimming pool. The edge of double bed was so soft I fell off it a few times

Review 119:liked the staff and the overall experience, lovely view from the room

Review 120:Not enough tea bags and milk but the receptionist send someone to our room with more supplies. When having a meal in the bar you had to get your own sauces etc which wasn't a problem but would have been nice to have been asked if we needed anything more.

Review 121:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were a little dated but had everything we needed so we were more than happy. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice.

Review 122:We felt the hotel restaurant was overpriced and the hotel is not near many other places to eat as it is quite a roadside location.

Review 123:The staff offered excellent service. The hotel was easy to get to from the motorway for an overnight stop and the room value was excellent. It was also a bonus to have the small spa/pool/steam room facility on site.

Review 124:Bad things - Shower didn't work (reported), Breakfast in the room was incomplete, The room was very dated compared with similar hotels, bed was hard, was over charged - the hotel took out another payment without telling me.

Review 125:Leaving

Review 126:It was our 2nd stay at the hotel and it stays exactly how we left it last time, in a good way, friendly staff, lovely leisure facilities and a great room to sleep in and all topped off with excellent room service.

Review 127:Cold room , I requested a boquet of flowers as something extra as it was my partners 30th and they wasn't there and breakfast was disappointing. And the children/baby in the next room keeping us awake..

Review 128:We kind of sprung the surprise of having a 4m-ish pole used for pole vaulting as we were a group of athletes and the staff did everthing they could to accomodatte us. The room was clean and comfy with everything required for a one night stay. I like the traditional nature of the hotel and the service was first rate. On site parking was good too.

Review 129:Breakfast bar was poorly managed,i.e. ran out of eggs and bacon twice to my knowledge and no staff there monitoring the situation

Review 130:Quality of food was Excellent

Review 131:No heating when arrived was told would come on at 5pm (which i was gobsmaked at), pulled from pillow to post to get food in end i walked out & went to local restaurant. Very cramped lift that said it could fit 8 people in. Lift struggled with 4 adults.

Review 132:The exit door was good

Review 133:at Breakfast you frequently had to ask for hot items to be replenished. This took several minutes to arrive which by that time other items had also run out.

Review 134:the leisure club being open over the Christmas period.

Review 135:Nothing.

Review 136:Booked a quiet double room on an upper floor and was allocated a twin room on the ground floor next to the disco!! Room changed without fuss. Excellent Wi Fi, free parking and good breakfast. Would stay again.

Review 137:Breakfast is fair but expensive for what it is? Verable room price too expensive at 70 should be fixed at £50 inc breaky?Pool area. Showing signs of of age and/or very little maintainance or cleaning ?very grubby and loads of lights lamps not working? The in pool spa device hasnt worked for ages and still isnt?

Review 138:Easy to book and change booking edit later on if required on line was exelent also allways managed to get accom at hotel which i have used many times over the years whilst working or on traning courses at british gas buisness or on holiday in yorks, but dont like verable price of room idea? Tues £50 wed 60 thurs 70? Whats all that about? A fair fixed price should be £ 50 max for this hotel with breakfast not £10.95 extra on top of 70?
