Reviews for Ravenstone Manor

Review 1:The staff were most helpful and went out of their way to assist in relation to tourist attractions in the area. Food excellent and accommodation very comfortable.

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:Relaxed atmosphere and the owners went the extra mile for you. The weather and road conditions were horrendous but they kept everyone updated throughout our stay. Even with no power it didn't spoil anything!!

Review 4:Great location. Helpful warm friendly staff. Wonderful comfortable room. Fab games room. Lovely comfy bar area. Would highly recommend a stay at this marvellous hotel

Review 5:The male owner seemed a little abrupt. His wife and all the other female staff on the other hand were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Quite a tight turning to navigate and in the dark I missed it. A little awkward to pull out from, so could do with some convex mirrors to help you see oncoming traffic.

Review 6:Lovely view overlooking the lake and great location for immediate walks straight up to Skiddaw. In the summer, it would be nice to sit out on the picnic tables provided.

Review 7:Nothing!

Review 8:The staff were really helpful and friendly. The views from our bedroom were spectacular. The food was lovely. Overall we had a delightful 2 day stay here.

Review 9:We felt the food didn't match up to 4 star dining. It was ok but more pub grub and needed finesse.

Review 10:Lovely old house beautifully furnished in the period. Relaxed atmosphere and comfortable lounge. Very comfortable bedroom which was a superior one with a very well equipped bathroom. Obliging and friendly staff.

Review 11:Nothing negative to report.

Review 12:Fabulous and engaging staff, quiet location, atmospheric historic building. Excellent menu beautifully presented. Deep comfortable bath. Breakfast included, also bathrobes. The four poster bed an unexpected delight. Hoping to return one day.

Review 13:Barely enough parking for guests Internet barely worked even in the public areas Bed was hard and uncomfortable There was a bright light outside our bedroom door shining into our room under the door all night Outside light shone through the window all night Horrible pillows

Review 14:Good breakfast

Review 15:Generally the menu is not up to scratch. Fixed menu unchanging. Poor quality food, and lack of imagination in the choice.

Review 16:Accomodation very good in this beautiful building. Staff service very friendly and efficient except on one occasion when understaffing caused the opposite.

Review 17:Although there are plans for incremental upgrading of the building, the dining area could really use a quick injection of atmosphere - even simple linen table cloths on the Formica tables might lift the impression somewhat (and a service of the squealing morning toaster!)... but give it a chance, the owners have only been there 3 months so far!

Review 18:Remote location away from Keswick in a beautiful old Victorian building. Martin & Ivana are excellent and accommodating hosts, working around our very late arrival with a welcoming beer in the bar, and the superb food was just what we needed after a day on the hills. Lovely and comfortable 'faded splendour' lounge area I could happily live in!

Review 19:The warmth and friendliness of the staff together with a very comfortable setting and very good cuisine made for a very enjoyable stay in a lovely part of the country.

Review 20:If you were later down to breakfast it was a long wait for the cooked part to be served. The toasting machine was a bit hit and miss.

Review 21:In a lovely position with stunning views from bedroom window (room 8). Convenient for both Keswick and Cockermouth. Freshly cooked breakfast (but see comment on negative side). Friendly and helpful staff. Brilliant shower! Varied choice and well cooked dishes in the restaurant if you wanted an evening meal.

Review 22:But the wifi is pretty weak, which I am not sure is their fault, and my bed was fairly soft.

Review 23:Staff, food, beauty and comfort of hotel in general are amazing.

Review 24:Breakfast was a bit restrictive, choice must be done the day before. Parking very difficult when the hotel is full, but as I said the staff were very helpful in proposing a solution.

Review 25:Excellent hotel, location and patrons. Always attentive and ready to help.

Review 26:nothing really little bit expensive but was a treat for our silver wedding :-)

Review 27:lovely room (3) fantastic views staff lovely food very good wifi was not good at all but i had read this on reviews before so knew this and wasnt too.much of a problem

Review 28:Wifi not good.

Review 29:The Manor is a quality establishment in a great location. Martin and the staff couldn't be more helpful and welcoming. The freshly cooked breakfast was very good, and the evening dining was superb.

Review 30:We arrived at 7:30pm and asked if the restaurant was open for food. There was a pause and the lass said she would enquire. We had a choice of fish and chips or fish and chips. Not the lasses fault. We had has long drive and did not want to get in the car again to find a place to eat. Unbeknown to us the was the Ravenshead Lodge two mins walk. It would have been a nice gesture if this had been offered by the lass. We only discovered this on our last day, and the food was amazing ! Breakfast okay but one rasher of bacon !!! Really !!!

Review 31:The bedroom was spacious. On our arrival we were welcomed!! Albeit the lass was outside when we arrived.

Review 32:Slightly more choice on the menu, or at least a menu that changed from day to day would have made it more likely that we would have eaten in for a second night.

Review 33:Friendly welcome. Stunning lounge and communal areas including games room with full sized snooker table. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant meals were delicious - perfectly cooked, beautifully presented. Location perfect for start of walk up Skiddaw (at end of driveway).

Review 34:More suitable for people that are not going to go out in the evening. We had a complaint because we got back at 1am!!! We were staying there to go to a wedding. In need of Modernisation.

Review 35:The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and overall it was a very nice few days.

Review 36:Nothing except please dont refurbish the place too much we loved the oldy worldy history of the place .

Review 37:wonderful location , great staff a credit to the new owners which we would like to wish them all the best . Great food and excellent bin wines . Room was lovely clean and comfy .Really lovely place to stay and relax for a few days , weeks ,months, years maybe hmmm defo love it . See you soon

Review 38:No mushrooms or fruit other than grapefruit and prunes at breakfast. Nowifi available all weekend. Most of the visitors were there on specialvoucher deals at around half the price we paid.

Review 39:Views over lake from our bedroom. Bathroom with spa bath andseparate shower. Friendliness and helpfulness of all staff includingthe new owners.

Review 40:menu fairly restrictive if you were staying more than two nights, also a bit more choice of vegetables would have been nice.

Review 41:peace and tranquility with a very lovely house and grounds. very good and friendly staff, nothing too much trouble.

Review 42:The noise. Every floorboard creaked, every door slammed, a loud mechanical sound lasting for a minute or so occurred 4 times in the space of about 20 minutes as we were trying to go to sleep. I will not say how the woman in the next room woke me up at 6:15 - let's just say I was probably embarrassed, irritated, jealous and impressed in equal measure!

Review 43:The staff, the food, the location.

Review 44:very friendly relaxed atmosphere, nothing was too much trouble for the friendly pleasant staff, The food was first rate, both evening meal and breakfast. plan to stay here again.

Review 45:Only complaint was they could have provided soya milk for breakfast.

Review 46:Lovely big room and very comfy bed. Staff very polite, friendly and helpful. Very yummy dinner, I have food intolerances and they were very accommodating.

Review 47:The bathroom facilities are inadequate

Review 48:The surroundings/landscapes are beautiful, The hotel is old but blends into the surroundings/landscapes. As a base for excursions its a fine location

Review 49:This quirky cross between a hotel and a B&B is an excellent choice to get into what the Lake District is all about. After a day on the hills this was a great place to come back to. Large sitting room full of proper chairs and sofas, lovely garden to sit in and watch the sun go down. Relax, take your time and enjoy. Staff are really helpful. Thanks for the stay.

Review 50:Good food, friendly staff. Was allowed to book in very early. When I said I needed an early start before breakfast time was due I was greeted with tin foil wrapped bacon sandwiches at the door on my way out. Loved the sounds of Owls and woodpeckers from the open bedroom window

Review 51:A little tricky to park on site, but we managed it in the end. The Wifi was also really slow on site.

Review 52:Great hotel with lots of character and really helpful, friendly staff. Really nice food served in the restaurant as well and a large games room complete with a full size snooker table! Quite easy to find as well on the main road with a view of the nearby lake from the top rooms.

Review 53:Maybe better connection on the wifi

Review 54:The overall stay was fantastic , the staff even decorated the table and a card for my partners birthday . Food 10 out of 10

Review 55:single room was like a broom cupboard! Combed ceiling over bed which was in an alcove had to scramble sideways bent over to get into bed, bed was a narrow single and sank in the middle very uncomfortable not for someone that is chlostraphobic.

Review 56:Staff were friendly meals were good but very small choice

Review 57:Rooms were a little cold, but in fairness it was February! Lounge and games room were also cold.

Review 58:The Ravenstone Manor, was traditional and comfortable, clean and welcoming. The food in the Restaurent was wonderful. A lovely stay and will revisit.

Review 59:Pillows a little too soft to support my neck.

Review 60:The staff were very welcoming and accommodating for us with our 15 month old daughter, letting us eat earlier than the planned dinner time and the chef offering a variety of options for her at last minute notice. We also got a lovely recommendation for a toddler-friendly walk by the lake from the chef which was perfect for her to just have a little toddle about and throw stones in the lake. Came here as we were visiting the lakes distillery and was very convenient for there also. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Review 61:Poor wifi but this wasnt really issue for me, might be for someone on business

Review 62:Fantastic views! Great breakfast Lovely and cosy Open fire Great location Friendly staff

Review 63:Weak wi-fi to the point of being almost pointless. There is no mobile signal so no alternative either. TV in room was tiny (17" if that), just about watchable.

Review 64:Fabulous friendly service, food was excellent quality and great value for money. Building has real character. Parking can be a little tricky but still workable. Recommended, would go back again.

Review 65:Restaurant a little quiet and lacked atmosphere during dinner
