Reviews for The Blacksmiths Arms

Review 1:Need to ask directions. Computer booking did not make it clear this BandB was about a mile down a very tiny track. Extremely hard to find!

Review 2:very clean, exceptionally friendly staff, great food at attached pub. In the middle of a hundreds of years old village, history is everywhere.

Review 3:I asked for a quiet room, but was right above the bar. Needed an early night after travelling, but this was impossible due to noisy group below. The room was also next to creaky stairs, so I had a disturbed sleep.

Review 4:Very good food.

Review 5:The room I was given was very cramped. I had to move a chair into the over large bathroom to make room for the stand to put my case on! As I was getting ready for a wedding I found the room quite stifling and was particularly unimpressed that I paid the same for my room as my brother did for his which was large and airy!

Review 6:Overall it was a nice pub with friendly staff and I would recommend it to family and friends

Review 7:We stayed a night during a tour of The Wall and The Lakes. This is one of two Hotels used and by far the best for quality, food, rooms, service and atmosphere. We would definitely go back and I can recommend it whole heartedly. We chose a Saturday night that must have been the busiest the pub/restaurant had seen for some time, so there was a little delay on food arriving, but hardly noticeable and to be honest the staff dealt with it so well it didn't matter. Full English breakfast was ace too, freshly cooked, good choices and plentiful. Room 2 is large, nicely appointed (what a shower!!), comfy, clean AND the window opened properly. Its got a real country pub, family run atmosphere and the choice at bar and on menu was really good and priced well. Many thanks to the owners and all the staff :)

Review 8:Excellent breakfast. Even started breakfast early for us as we had to leave at 8.15. Evening meal very good. Very large almost apartment family room.

Review 9:Not many petrol stations in the area ,remember to fill up on a Saturday.

Review 10:Food amazing for hungry walkers.Recomend the apple and blackberry crumble! Staff really helpful.

Review 11:Although everything was excellent I missed my memory foam mattress, so found bed uncomfortable by end of our stay.

Review 12:Management & staff extremely friendly & helpful. Standard of food was excellent.

Review 13:Great area to stay at. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Great selection of beers and spirits. Food at breakfast and lunch was good. Would defiantly recommend to others

Review 14:Would prefer real chips, potatoes peeled sliced and cooked. Hate cheating chips but very rare not to get them these days. Wifi needs extending.

Review 15:Very pleasant visit. Staff all very attentive and polite. Food good quality and generous portions.

Review 16:We called on our way to Scotland for lunch, the sandwiches were fantastic. On our journey home we stayed the night. The room had all amenities we required and spotless. Our evening meal was also good. Staff very friendly .We would certainly stay again and recommend to anyone

Review 17:The Blacksmiths is a comfortable, friendly local inn with excellent food. It has a great welcoming atmosphere and the staff are a really good team. They obviously enjoy what they do. It is also in a perfect location for visiting Hadrian's Wall etc.

Review 18:We have stayed here many times, love the area for walking, peace and quiet. We are always made welcome and the 'bar' is open for a beer when we arrive!

Review 19:Nothing to dislike

Review 20:Good location in a small quiet village. good value for money with very good food. Family run and very friendly atmosphere. Well equipped rooms and good sized bathroom.

Review 21:Very homely feeling on entering the hotel Totally immaculate rooms, good selection of ales and spirits. Breakfast is definitely worth getting up for and my evening meal of fillet steak on a bed of haggis in a Drambuie sauce can only be given a ten out of ten. The landlord and landlady are wonderful people and I felt that they were enjoying our visit as much as we were. I feel the need to return soon.

Review 22:Our room (1) could be described as compact - but with a very comfortable bed.

Review 23:Friendly staff Varied menu Excellent shower Returning from a wedding reception at midnight to find the bar still open for a welcome nightcap !

Review 24:Some early morning plumbing (?) noises interrupted sleep for a short while but were intermittent and not prolonged so no great worries.

Review 25:Great country location providing a welcome oasis not far off busy M6. Warm hospitable welcome with ambiance of a thriving country pub. Comfortable bedroom and bathroom provided excellent night's rest and fairly priced wine and good dinner preceded the same.

Review 26:This is a lovely Country Inn in a great location for 'The Wall' and the Lakes. The premises is full of character with modern comfy rooms. Friendly and welcoming hosts and staff who all made me feel entirely at home. I can't praise them enough. Met some nice locals too. Great food (dinner) and drink in a relaxed atmosphere with an excellent breakfast. Without doubt one of the best places I have ever stayed. I will certainly visit again. My thanks for a perfect break.

Review 27:Very comfortable room with a great power shower to refresh the weary traveller. Brilliant location for visiting Hadrian's Wall and very quiet for an excellent night's sleep.

Review 30:Would be nice to have a handrail in the shower for less able guests. Breakfast was a while coming (but worth the wait!)

Review 31:Lovely rooms, quiet location. Breakfast was good.

Review 32:The fact that there was no wifi - especially since phone reception is very poor

Review 33:I loved the positive energy that the family that runs this B &B displayed at all times They are warm and friendly and it's obvious they love what they do. And that makes it a pleasure to stay there The breakfast is absolutely scrumptious as were the crab cakes at dinner ! Very close to the talkin tarn - so if you are the kind who loves nature and quiet and great good and a warm reception - this is the place to go!
