Reviews for Hogarths
Review 1:The lights in the bedroom were very dim and I was unable to see myself doing my hair or trying my clothes on.
Review 2:Lovely room, big bed, complimentary water, jacuzzi bath, very comfortable stay
Review 3:Picky but had to buy a large bottle of sparkling water when all I wanted was a glass. Another guest suffered the same fate.
Review 4:Comfortable room, food was very good both evening meal and breakfast. Staff at breakfast were excellent. Would stay again.
Review 5:Nothing too bad although I did think the fitness centre should open a little earlier than 08.00 a.m. Apparently it was because of the noise from the running machine but maybe they should unplug the running machine until 08.00 a.m. and let early risers use the other equipment
Review 6:The staff were extremely friendly and the dinner was exceptional and good value for money
Review 7:Booked two rooms together did not get that and didn't want to do anything about it .. But the one we had was lovely and my daughters room was good too
Review 8:Spotlessly clean staff very polite excellent
Review 9:a more comfy arm chair to work in in the room would have been nice. but only because i get up to work sometimes in the night.
Review 10:everything lovely view staff smashing food GREAT....... all my fave breakfast things
Review 11:Grumpy staff on reception: taciturn. By noisy road and window shut but did not eliminate noise. Aircon remote control didn't work (batteries sellotaped in).
Review 12:Fantastic 1970s (?) classic design interior and exterior. Good value.
Review 13:Very well appointed room second floor. Lovely views of countryside (room 215) comfortable bed and very nicely designed and fitted out. Happy morning staff at breakfast.
Review 14:The postcode displayed in the address is not the one that gets you to the property we got lost and had to phone and we were given another one!! Please print this on your web page
Review 15:Breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we have ever had excellent
Review 16:Restaurant does not fit in to the surroundings and other standards of the Hotel The Bistro restaurant, a bottle of wine is from £29,95 to £39,95 plus and a steak is of poor quality again up to £30.00. The Chef ('s) do not know how to cook a medium pink steak. At these prices you would expect every chef should be capable! 1st night we had to send our meals back as the steaks were well done and when they came back, guess what the same as before, well done except now the chips had been over salted to and inedible. Even the staff agreed how disgusting they were. We were told this was because the Sous chef wasn't on that evening....... 2nd night guess what the same again with the steaks but this time the Sous Chef come over and started to argue, he was tall and we were seated, very intimidating and said, " this is what he would call a medium steak, and it was pink all the way through." Umm, we wouldn't of sent it back if this was the case would we? It was completely cooked on one side and nearly as bad on the other with very little pink showing. We think he was rude and very impolite to speak to customers in this manner. This was a real shame, all the other staff were apologising on his behalf. Definitely wouldn't recommend a wedding or group party or in fact we wouldn't recommend any dinning in the Bistro
Review 17:All staff were excellent except for the Sous Chef
Review 18:The windows do not have nets behind the curtains so people can see infrom the car park.
Review 19:Restaurant accepts Gourmet Society card so 25% off. Clean andcomfortable. 2 mins from the motorway.
Review 20:Always have a good stay, just find there are big price variances at times for same rooms
Review 21:As ever lovely staff, especially Danni always so friendly and welcoming. Comfortable room. Good shower, and free wifi and parking
Review 22:The bedroom carpet had been stained by a earlier resident and the room should not have been re-let in that condition.
Review 23:The quiet location and the staff. Breakfast was brilliant.
Review 24:The checkin service was poor, the inability to charge bar and restaurant services to ones room the rudeness of staff when explaining this.
Review 25:It was the venue for a meeting of the Academy for Chief Executives
Review 26:Cleanliness was poor. Inexperienced staff. Systems not working. Noisy.
Review 27:Self-calculated review score of 4.2 (out of 5... I guess...) is way too high. Not clean, noisy, inexperienced staff, systems down at checkout. Food was good and location is good but they need to sort quality of service and cleanliness before a return visit is booked.
Review 28:Very bad camp bed that collapsed all the time including over night. Too few staff at dinner and breakfast. One person completely ignored by husbands question. Reception tried to charge me more money than my booking and really were determined they were right which they weren't . Reception on check out helpful and gave £40 refund for bed issue
Review 29:Lovely clean hotel, decor lovely
Review 30:Felt very much at home. Beautiful breakfast in very elegant setting. Dinner - quality of produce was very high. Steaks excellent. Staff very helpful - but not stuffy. Weather was also beautiful so an added bonus . We travel all over the world for business - this made for a business trip that felt like a holiday. There was also a wedding on this week end. Didn't distract any of the staff.
Review 31:Nothing
Review 32:All the staff we friendly and approachable. Excellent facilities with beautiful grounds. Absolutely loved the hotel and would recommend to everybody
Review 33:The bed was very uncomfortable in the January room as were the pillows (very firm). The room was very hot even though the window was left open all night. The towel radiator in the bathroom wouldn't switch off so the bathroom was very hot and unbreathable at most times. Arrived in the hotel, had a shower immediately only to find the towel was filthy, however was replaced by the hotel staff pretty quickly. I was charged for breakfast for 2 people as the room was preselected for 2 guests.
Review 34:Location was nice Staff were very welcoming and kind Breakfast area was lovely
Review 35:Several loose slabs on the patio, i saw a wedding guest carrying child stumble. (I fell at a Shropshire hotel in similar circumstances.) Cold plates at group breakfast. Staff slow in clearing used glasses and crockery.
Review 36:Beautiful room overlooking gardens, very comfortable bed & chairs. Food excellent, cream tea, wedding evening do and breakfast.
Review 37:The isn't very large and seemed to be taken over by the weddings held on site. Our room was situated near the reception and on both nights we were awoken but noisy drunken guests holding conversation in the hallway. The insulation is poor and you hear everything, door also slam shut which isn't fun at 6.30am. We had to complain on the saturday night when a couple were having a row at 1am. We wouldn't visit the hotel again, we paid a premium for the hotel and didn't get a good night sleep on either night. What a shame.
Review 38:We liked the hotel, rooms and location.
Review 39:The staff were universally excellent - courteous, smiling, helpful and diligent. The hotel is smart and well presented and the room was very comfortable.
Review 40:No hairdryer. Recalcitrant room safe.
Review 41:Large, well furnished room. The grounds, and pleasant view of them from room. High quality English breakfast. Good drink making facilities. Free and efficient wifi.
Review 42:The TV had no signal but it wasn't a problem as I watched on iPad via wi fi- I didn't report it as it was late when I discovered it so no criticism of staff for not dealing - I'm sure they would have
Review 43:The bed was so comfy !
Review 44:We had a wonderful stay at Hogarths. Overall we are extremely pleased with the whole experience! All staff are so friendly and helpful, couldnt do enough to help!! Will definitey stay again and will recommend your hotel!
Review 45:Reception staff very friendly on arrival however service on the restaurant in the evening was poor and very slow. I didn't get my starter until my husband had finished his, he had scallops and they were very over cooked. Our mains came, this was ok. Fish and lamb. Our plates didn't get taken until we called someone over. We were never offered a dessert menu. We then decided to leave and put the bill on our room.
Review 46:The room was lovely, couldn't fault it!
Review 47:Its a very small thing, but the cupboard was full of an extra duvet. This was not necessary in summer and had to be moved so my son and I could hang up our suits. Its a small detail, but the duvet should have been stored elsewhere.
Review 48:All the staff were a wonderful combination of efficiency and friendliness. The room was very well laid out and had all the necessary facilities. I ordered room service which was excellent quality and very good value for money.
Review 49:The evening had a disappointing end when the late staff would not serve us food and were even reluctant to serve us with alcohol. There were a group of us staying at the hotel so therefore we wanted food in the bar. We were told we could only have food as room service in our rooms. The breakfast staff were also not particularly friendly, and the cooked breakfast protion was very small.
Review 50:The room was very comfortable, clean and well presented. The reception staff were very friendly
Review 51:RUDE Bar Staff and VERY RUDE Manger, its not what you say its how you say it, they don't seem to have any idea, or been trained adequately, if at all....
Review 52:Gardens and terrace
Review 53:Manner of waitress at breakfast was very average, she was annoyed as such a large group and think she didn't like us lingering! Hotel bar closes at 2 without any warning!!
Review 54:Fantastic room, very comfortable and clean. WiFi (free) was an added bonus. Reception staff, bar staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 55:Could hear noise from next room & when adjacent rooms shut their door, the walls shook. I stayed in August, as in the room name not the month! Small bathroom.
Review 56:Quality establishment, grounds & outdoor seating are absolutely lovely. Nicely decorated room. Great shower.
Review 57:Warmth of room
Review 58:The hotel had a feeling of small and intimate, the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. They created lots of little touches like birthday balloon in room with a personalised card and later on in evening a happy birthday plate with a selection of chocolates on! Very thoughtful and attentive! Room was cosy and comfy a tad too warm but but very well laid put and clean! Breakfast was very tasty! Would definitely stay again and would recommend to friends.
Review 59:English weather (summer in name only)! Despite extensive menu, not all dishes were available. Had to reselect twice!!!
Review 60:Beautiful setting, amid well maintained gardens & lawns, made sitting outside pleasant, even in the cold of early English summer. Room was comfortable, well appointed and clean. Restaurant had plenty of glass from which to look over the grounds while dining.
Review 61:Appalling service at breakfast and dinner. Took two hours to get served at dinner and waiter had to come back to check the one main course order as he'd forgotten it. At breakfast, they got the single hot breakfast order wrong. Poor choice if you're coeliac, despite being told they could do anything. 3 fish courses only for dinner: practically a raw GF sausage at breakfast. Pathetic and disappointing.
Review 62:Good sized room
Review 63:Lovely location, nice and quiet location. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely meal in the evening and a most enjoyable breakfast the next morning.
Review 64:My room, February, was affected by noise from air con or fan outside - possibly by kitchens, fortunately I travel with earplugs so was able to block out the majority of noise.
Review 65:Comfortable & well appointed room, very good food.
Review 66:Fire alarm going off and being evacuated in pyjamas at 5.30 am in the car park and then the alarm continuing to go off for the next 45 minutes. A High pitched shrill ring! Very annoying!! Whilst I appreciate these things happen and it's a safety aspect, there wasn't really any explanation or apology at checkout.
Review 67:Location, free parking. Free wifi, comfortable bed, nice bathroom facilities.
Review 68:Second visit this year for a conference where the choice of food was average & again there wasn't enough to cater for the delegates. Felt like the catering was done "on the cheap". This soured the otherwise great facility.
Review 69:Great room
Review 70:As a young couple celebrating out anniversary.Being woken up at 05.32 ,06.00 , 06.15 and 07.30 was really inconvenient. My partner ended up leaving at 07.30 to go home where he could get some sleep.Called reception and no one answered until 16min's later and he wasn't very nice Either.
Review 71:I enjoyed the atmosphere and scenery.
Review 72:Noisy function kept us awake and then when this stopped the walls of our room were so thin I could here the neighbour snoring all night
Review 73:Lovely setting and restaurant
Review 74:Can't fault it , a little on the expensive side but for a treat perfect
Review 75:The bathroom, the John Lewis furnishings, the amazing beds , particularly the grounds , ambiance and the food was smashing especially the fillet medallions
Review 76:The staff were very welcoming, the bedrooms were lovely & clean, my room looked over the gardens which were immaculate and there were rabbits playing in the early evening
Review 77:Bed was too soft and room was too hot.s
Review 78:Great hotel close to Solihull. Very clean, lovely decor. Great service. Restaurant provided a good choice and everyone in our group enjoyed their meal
Review 79:we couldn't eat from the Brasserie menu before 6pm and due to attending an event we had to eat at 5 - meaning we had to eat from the daytime menu which didn't have a large amount of options. That said the food was nice.
Review 80:The staff couldn't do more, very friendly and welcoming. The hotel was stunning and grounds were beautiful. So much so me and my partner agreed this would be the type of place we'd like to get married dispute it being far away from where we live!
Review 81:We were in room 108 and the doors outside the room made a little too much noise when they closed. We could not get a phone signal in our room and the wifi didn't work despite the receptionist resetting the signal - this was disappointing but didn't affect the overall stay. My wife found the bed to be comfortable but I didn't because it had a lumpy mattress topper so I didn't sleep too well as a result.
Review 82:Loved the breakfast, very clean which is a major point for us, great accomodating staff and the building and its grounds are fabulous. We stayed because of a wedding and were glad we paid the extra money to be resident for the night due to convenience and the high quality of the hotel.
Review 83:We were in the room right next to the foyer and could hear the receptionist checking people in/out! A speaker playing music outside the restaurant/bar aims directly at the room and we could hear music until late (after 11) and started again early with breakfast. Would not return to this hotel as did not have an experience worthy of the price.
Review 84:It was very clean and well appointed. The bar and restaurant were great and the staff very friendly.
Review 85:Quality Of Kipper at Breakfast The whole of the food operation oozed quality but my wife was served a kipper fillet. Would have expected a proper Kipper
Review 86:All Of It
Review 87:Had a fantastic downstairs room with French doors leading onto the grounds which made it very easy for the late evening and early morning walks with the dogs. Very clean very comfortable and fab food
Review 88:Only one tiny thing - we ordered the petit fours with our coffee butthey were inedible!
Review 89:Lovely modern room with french doors to the garden. Fabulous dinner andbreakfast. Lovely helpful staff
Review 90:We ate in the restaurant both evenings of our stay, and whilst the food was very good, the portions of some of the starters were rather 'minimalist'. For example, on the first night I had pigeon breast, which consisted of 2 small pieces - probably about 4 mouthfuls in total along with a few salad leaves. Hubby had mackerel pate, which was truly yummy, but it was presented with only 2 pieces of melba toast. I had a liver pate the following evening, which came with brioche, but again, not enough to go with the amount of pate.
Review 91:Booked a superior double room, which was wonderful. Fabulous views of hotel grounds, and the bed was soooo comfortable. (I had a conference to attend on the Saturday, but didn't want to get out of bed at all)! Great staff who were attentive to detail, especially Debra who was on breakfast duty both mornings, and remembered on the Sunday that my husband likes Green Tea, but prefers to make his own - so she gave him hot water & tea bag separately.
Review 92:Took ages for food to come think we were forgotten about then no starter , waitress seemed shocked we hadn't recieved it when we asked them to take it off the bill at the end we were very hungrey so we just took our mains when they arrived 1 hour after been seated !!
Review 93:Ground floor patio doors to sit out
Review 94:As we needed to leave the hotel at 6.30am only limited breakfast available to the room. Disappointed that we got charged £5 for this facility.
Review 95:Downstairs bedroom leading out onto the grounds, ideal for us travelling with a dog.
Review 96:The room was well designed and the bathroom with the walk in wet room shower plus the bath was outstanding. Dinner was excellent but not over priced. All round the hotel as everything for the business traveller, couples and perfect for parties etc. definitely stay again.
Review 97:On our very first visit, we had a lovely room but it overlooked part of the extended car park. Since then we have always asked for a garden view room and they have always been able to accommodate us.
Review 98:They consistently provide excellent and cheerful service (we have stayed many times). Rooms are very comfortable and have everything you need.
Review 99:I really loved Hogarths, the bar and lounge are really modern but the bedroom was more old fashioned and homely. Beautiful gardens to walk around - loved the whole experience!
Review 100:There was no hot water on Monday morning and that was a negative, but I think I must have been unlucky. And no gym
Review 101:The service was very good. In addition, there was good atmosphere on Sunday lunchtime/ afternoon with a live pianist, who was very good. The bar menu food was very good and good variety of drinks as well. Overall excellent
Review 102:The bed was uncomfortable and th room too hot with no apparent way to control the temperature unless you opened the exterior door. Much to my amazement I could not get a telephone signal I found that very frustrating. You ask about my opinion on Wifi, couldn't get it on my I phone at all.
Review 103:Overall good impression. Th staff were very pleasant and polite.
Review 104:Nothing NOT to like!!!
Review 105:This was my 6th or 7th time at Hogarths and everything is just perfect, staff especially. Word of warning...the beds are so comfortable you may find it difficult to get up!!!! My partner tried to stuff our bed in her handbag!!!!
Review 106:Wifi not working which is not acceptable at these prices Room rate was very high for what the room was
Review 107:Dinner and service has improved, hotel is nice and room was good but nothing special
Review 108:Extended my stay by another night but reception staff forgot to extend my keycard duration too, so it didn't work on returning at 11:00pm after working a 16 hour shift at work. Trip back to reception to find noone there, had to go and locate a member of staff.
Review 109:Good food, quiet location and well appointed executive rooms. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 110:I had an overnight stay, didn't arrive until 10.30pm and didn't get to see much of the hotel. My room was quiet, the bed comfortable and the breakfast good.
Review 111:There were some issues with my booking - on arrival they could not find my reservation but this was resolved. The next day I had two calls form reception regarding another two bookings which had my contact details. Despite making it clear on the first call I had only booked one room there was another call later that morning regarding this matter. I had to interupt my meetings in order to deal with this
Review 112:Breakfast was not quite the pleasant friendly experience of dinner but was perfectly acceptable.
Review 113:Well located, good food, and good service. A very comfortable bed in a pleasant room. Overall this was a good experience.
Review 114:Originally started off in October room, but had to be moved due to the noise, which we found out later was the fan from the kitchen!! After that perfect.
Review 115:Lovely hotel. Very comfortable beds.
Review 116:There was only 4 tea bags and 2 coffee sachets in the box. Hot enough in my book as I tore one of the tea bags opening it. Also only one packet of biscuits between two people. I suppose if that is all that was wrong then there is no pleasing some people. Thanks for a very very pleasant stay.
Review 117:Almost everything. Food was good. Staff were even better. Hotel was of a very high standard. A most enjoyable stay and should the occasion arise then I would have no hesitation in staying there again. Only one comment - please see opposite.
Review 118:Average wifi
Review 119:Helpful and professional staff Charming restaurant Interesting dinner menu Comfy beds Well-appointed rooms Beautiful setting, and close to motorway/airport
Review 120:I personally don't like firm pillows, but otherwise it was excellent.
Review 121:It was a very pleasant stay, and we will definitely go back. Lovely gardens, and dog friendly, too.
Review 122:Weekend spoilt as a jacket went missing. As there was CCTV I was hoping the hotel would be able to identify who took it but they were not able to. Hotel even suggested maybe it wasn't left there & we didn't bring it! Bit disappointed.
Review 123:Staff were very friendly & looked after our party well. The food was also very good.
Review 124:When I arrived with my 13 year old daughter we pulled up outside the hotel, the chap at reception could see me clearly struggling with golf clubs and luggage but made no effort to offer any assistance.
Review 125:I liked almost everything about the hotel. It was clean Food - Great
Review 126:Nothing really
Review 127:I loved the décor and the lovely gardens - the food was also very good. The staff were all nice but the head waiter deserves a special mention - made us feel very comfortable, as if nothing was too much trouble, Would love to visit again.
Review 128:bath was not big enough for two!
Review 129:felt like quality through and through. We stayed in April room, could have been a bit bigger but guess you cant have it all!
Review 130:Only 1 draft beer.
Review 131:Room was in good order and very clean.
Review 132:we had ordered goats milk when booking and checked again a week before arrival but we did not get goats milk any time during our three night stay
Review 133:fire alarm @1.45 thursday morning !!
Review 134:clean tidy friendly
Review 135:Not so much a bad experience but I found the bed very soft so I had trouble sleeping
Review 136:Beautiful hotel with very friendly helpful staff
Review 137:No swimming pool
Review 138:Location
