Reviews for Ravenstone Lodge Country House Hotel
Review 1:Brilliant place to stay evening meal was superb and the breakfast was lush the staff were lovely never met the chef but the way the food was presented was top notch and tasted lush
Review 2:We could not easily walk to Lake Bassingthwaite or Derwentwater, which we were hoping to do.
Review 3:The room was very comfortable. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly and gave good advice about sights to see.
Review 4:Food was awesome. Great base for lakes to tracks round. Staff so friendly. Proprietors lovely couple will defs recommend this hotel as it covered all our requirements
Review 5:No bad experiences at all - however, bathroom was very small and in need of refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards and on arrival our room (#6) was somewhat warm / overheated.
Review 6:Liked (i) restaurant - food was delicious and conservatory was warm and inviting to sit in pre-dinner (ii) nice big bed (iii) free parking (iv) friendliness of Val the receptionist / our waitress for the evening - was very patient and kind when we arrived somewhat stressed from a long car journey and she also made sure some breakfast was laid on for us outside hours as we had a very early start (to a funeral) the next day.
Review 7:Initial room wasn't to our preference but this was very quickly resolved
Review 8:Location impeccable, friendly and accommodating staff, any issues dealt with immediately ensuring maximum comfort and convenience to the guest
Review 9:Room was a bit tired and in need of overhaul. The bed was atrocious squeaky with headboards banging on the radiator if we moved. The hotel bar was a bit of a let down too.
Review 10:The staff were fantastic and the hotel Inc our room was spotlessly clean.
Review 11:our room number 5 was far too small as a double room. The bed had exposed angle corners and because of the lack of space around the bed both my husband and I got bruises on our legs due to confined space which did not allow two people to move around the room easily . It was too small to get changed in and to store items around the room.
Review 12:the staff were very helpful and attended to all our needs very well. The comfort in the sitting area was good and the breakfast excellent. The bathroom was a good size and well equipped .
Review 13:Bit small and service was slow and eratic in the restaurant. Bathroom was from the 1970s. Couldn't escape the other guests or staff
Review 14:Good location
Review 15:The ambience - it lacks soul. Bath towels the size of napkins! The lounge is in the entrance hall with kitchen and main office off of it. Staff execute their jobs well and are helpful when you ask but not proactive.
Review 16:The food- good chefs. Good bathroom but quite small Classic room.
Review 17:The room was quite small which meant that there wasn't really anywhere to put our wet clothing after a long walk. The walls were thin, it sounded like the couple next door were in the same room and this made it quite difficult to sleep. Also the bed wasn't very comfortable.
Review 18:The location is fantastic, close to the Keswick and in a good location to access lots of walks. The breakfast was very good, my fiancé ordered the smoked kippers and said they were fantastic. The lady who checked us out and brought breakfast, she said she was new, was very friendly.
Review 19:Everything at the Ravenstone Lodge Country House Hotel was top class!!! So friendly and accommodating! Lovely location and setting! In short this lovely little Hotel was for us Faultless.
Review 20:The food and service was excellent.. All the staff were attentive to our every need! Nothing was too much trouble... Simply there to please..Wonderful stay for our 3rd Wedding Anniversary.
Review 21:Fabulous room and views. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Fantastic food, everything fresh, and high quality produce...The Baileys cheesecake was pure melt in the mouth heaven. Homemade bread and marmalade at breakfast was scrumptious and I had the best egg benedict ever. Susan is an amazing manager and helped make our stay extra special...we can't wait to return.
Review 22:Having to come home!
Review 23:The food was superb - especially the Venison. The staff were welcoming, warm and nothing was too much trouble. Had a fantastic break. Thank you.
Review 24:Our room was stunning with an amazing view, the hotels location is brilliant for walkers like ourselves, the hotel staff were very friendly and could not be faulted. This hotel also has a superb chef and the food was incredible. Really can not fault our stay here.
Review 25:Lovely location, great views, clean with friendly staff. The Bistro/Restaurant is a nice touch if you fancy having good food without having to drive anywhere. Stacks of footpaths nearby and good mountain biking too, only a short drive to Winlatter forest for the Altura bike trails. Not far from C2C route.
Review 26:Travelled with my partners father so he could have a special treat and someone had switched the electric shower off in his room so it was only after we investigated 24hrs later and found the string to switch it on he was able to have a shower.
Review 27:Beautiful views out over terrace to open fields with mature trees and opportunity to walk to Bassenthwaite lake . Warm welcome and found rooms to be clean and comfortable, nice touches were biscuits in room and fresh milk available. Breakfast a delightful affair fresh bread and superb full english amongst other choices. Delicous menu at dinner served in either restaurant or less formal bistro.
Review 28:We were given a huge room, but with no view, only window onto driveway. Dinners were pricey.
Review 29:Great and helpful staff. Great location for hiking with trail heads close by.
Review 30:Requested a bright room with a large window. However our room was very dull and at the end of the building. Had a smaller window high up on headboard wall. French doors looked onto a narrow driveway. There was lots of greenery adjacent because it was parallel to the main road.
Review 31:Warm welcome on arrival. Room large with high ceiling (? stable conversion) and very comfortable. Bedding immaculate with great pillows. Dining experience was a real treat.
Review 32:Some of the interior could do with a slight update but then again they could charge twice the price for this location!
Review 33:Beautiful location. Great staff. Excellent value for money.
Review 34:Only downside at this property was the room we had was rather small. This was not such a problem for the 2 nights we stayed. However on a longer stay this would get a bit claustrophobic.
Review 35:Very friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely surroundings.
Review 36:The classic room was too small and tired for aong stay.
Review 37:Dining experience in a busy bistro and restaurant, by well organised staff . Delicious, fresh food from local suppliers. Rural location suited us.
Review 38:Ravenstone Lodge is a very special place in lovely surroundings. It's charming, cosy and comfortable and the staff can't do enough to help. Wonderful food too!
Review 39:Very minor as room in need of a little TLC but hotel in process of modernisation and room on list.
Review 40:Location Excellent, Staff incredible. Made to feel very welcome.
Review 41:Non,the WiFi is a little hit and miss but you are in a valley and the views and surroundings are amazing so it's not a bad thing to put the phone/tablet down and forget it for a few days
Review 42:The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful as soon as we stepped through the door and that never faltered once throughout the trip. The views and walks accessible from the hotel were incredible and the food was superb.
Review 43:The bathroom was dated although very clean and there was a problem with condensation which I believe is an issue.
Review 44:We had several meals and found the food excellent interesting and well presented. Staff were efficient and friendly.
Review 45:The only problem and wouldn't really call it a problem was the wifi was of poor quality but didn't bother us one but.
Review 46:The welcome was lovely, we hadn't arrived by our booking time so they gave us a courtesy call to make sure we were ok, then carried our suitcase for us on arrival, and gave us directions to get food As they had closed the kitchen (it was 10pm) so friendly made sure we had everything we needed, breakfast was top notch! Booked our taxi for us to go into the town for a drink the next day! Lovely clean rooms as we returned! Couldn't help us enough so happy with our stay :)
Review 47:Not a bad experience, but room was very small for the price. No room for all luggage and no chairs only bed to sit on.
Review 48:The helpfulness and friendliness of staff.
Review 49:My only criticism would have been that our bathroom needed to be slightly updated.
Review 50:Mike is fantastic and a great host, all the staff were very welcoming.
Review 51:The Stables Bistro lighting is bright enough to illuminate the whole of Bassenthwaite Lake, it would be more comfortable for guests if they turned this down and also made the room more welcoming.
Review 52:Friendly welcoming staff ensured my stay was a good one. The Chef was very accommodating and I had 2 vegetarian dinners that were not on the menu. My room overlooked the back of the house which has beautiful views, and a terrace where guests can sit in warmer weather. Breakfasts are a hearty affair with plenty of veggie options.
Review 53:No disco, Spa or swimming pool! Excellent!
Review 54:Fantastic food. Friendly helpful staff. Small (9 rooms), comfy and relaxed atmosphere. Lovely location (it's on an A road but all rooms and terrace etc. are to the rear of the hotel) great rural views. Ideal for walking - easy walks over fields to lake shore, Bassenthwait village or Mirehouse gardens or a stiff climb to the top of Skidaw.
Review 55:A lovely hotel in a great location. Not too crowded and full of tourists. We were within walking distance of a lovely old church, Lake, historic house and forest walking trails. We were able to have dinner at the hotel and the food and service was excellent. Pre dinner drinks overlooking a lovely green field added to our experience . The owners and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend.
Review 56:No bad experiences but a few of the fixtures were falling off wall in bathroom and some wobbly tables in conservatory.
Review 57:Location/Food/Coffee/Staff
Review 58:The wifi access could have been better as there was no reception in the rooms.
Review 59:The service, the view, the staff and the overall experience was absolutely wonderful.
Review 60:The only thing I would say was that the walls between the bedrooms were very flimsy.
Review 61:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was excellent
Review 62:poor wifi in rooms cream tea pricey and only one scone and small amount of jam and cream
Review 63:location and walks from property to lakes excellent food
Review 64:Problem with water supply to bathroom on first night
Review 65:The hotel was very clean. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you needed in them. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you, making the stay very relaxed and enjoyable. The Dinner in the restaurant was exceptional. The lobster was to die for!
Review 66:Our hosts at Ravenstone Lodge made us feel very welcome and were extremely hospitable. Our meal in the bistro was delicious and we were able to take advantage of the warm evening, chilling out in the relaxing outdoor space with fantastic views.
Review 67:Not much really - the wifi was very slow, but we didn't come to Bassenthwaite for the internet anyway.
Review 68:We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The room was very nice, with a lovely view out over fields. We ate in the Stables bistro, which has a nice relaxed atmosphere, but the same excellent food as in the restaurant. It really was superb - rabbit pie, and Lakeland lamb, perfectly done. Then the breakfast the next day was superb, too. We will almost certainly go back again!
Review 69:WiFi, but I already knew that before we stayed. So it is not fair to moan about it.
Review 70:Absolutely stunning location, the staff were very welcoming, the manager Mike came and had a nice chat with us and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was lovely and plenty to choose from and the food in the restaurant was top notch.
Review 71:No papers in the lounge area, poor in room drink allocation. Short on all requirements.
Review 72:The location was great for our visit. A wedding within the immediate location.
Review 73:The food was very good and plentiful and served in clean and pleasant surroundings. All the staff were very friendly as was the owner who was always on hand The peace and quiet along with the superb location made for an excellent stay. We will go again.
Review 74:Very tight access into car park. Our room (5) was quite small.
Review 75:Excellent food. Excellent choice of breakfast, both restaurants served good quality and beautifully cooked meals. If you do not have a huge appetite, then I suggest you either share a starter or leave it out as the portions are quire large. Rooms very clean. Good supply of toiletries - Excellent
Review 76:Slightly smaller room than expected (although we spent very little time in it!). Pillows too big (but I didn't ask for a different one, so not sure if they were available).
Review 77:Made at ease on arrival, introduced to small team, shown around the lodge. Excellent food!! Relaxed and chilled out staff.
Review 78:Room above kitchen (5) hot all time. Floor hot most of time, made sleeping difficult especially with polyester bedding and pillows. Parking chaotic.
Review 79:Good location, staff very helpful, excellent food.
Review 80:Room needs an update, but cosmetic only and we liked the ambiance of the old style.
Review 81:Breakfast and dinner and location and staff. Also the walk down to the lake across the fields and the lounge area.
Review 82:No wi fi for two days. Menue stayed the same for three days so on the third night of our stay we ate out. Pity, this two factors spoilt our stay which was our second one. We won't be going back there.
Review 83:Our room was top
Review 84:Lovely location with wonderful views. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food both at breakfast and dinner was excellent. Room very comfortable and clean.
Review 85:Literally there was absolutely nothing we could fault....and it was great value.
Review 86:The staff were really friendly and made us feel at home. Rooms were excellent, beds comfortable, the food and bar excellent plus lovely view.
Review 87:Limited space to sit in lounge in poor weather. Parking barely adequate. Bedroom small with restricted space around bed. No view of the lake.
Review 88:Welcoming host. Good food. Well presented building.
Review 89:ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!
Review 90:Peaceful location, easy to find and great to go walking straight from the hotel if you wish! Our room was large bright and airy with good storage/hanging space, and a very comfy bed, plus tea/coffee making facility. The deep long bath with shower over was fantastic with plentiful hot water for a good soak after trekkingthe hills!! A walk through the fields to the church of St.Bega is a must, to find this blissfully isolated peacful little church which remains open to visitors at any time!! We would highly recommend this hotel!!
Review 91:The wifi was iffy in spite of the owner's attempt to have it rectified by a professional.
Review 92:Great location and great scenery. The host was very helpful.
Review 93:The room we stayed in had thin walls - so we could hear TV and conversation form room next door. It is a very sharp turn into the driveway for the hotel.
Review 94:The location and wonderful views of the hill, secluded countryside. A calm, quiet and picturesque setting. The breakfast was very good, with selection of cereals and cooked options.
Review 95:nothing. If I had to be negative on anything it would only be the speed of the wifi. but that isn't important and I know the owner was looking into it.
Review 96:This was a relaxing stay and we were made very welcome by the owner. the staff were lovely and friendly and the breakfast was great as it offered something different from the usual menus in hotels.
Review 97:We arrived late and despite it being written in the welcome pack we were told the kitchen was closed and there was no room sevice. We were also told there would be a £100 fine if we tried to bring in food we bought. The staff member was apathetic to the situation and seemed not to care he did not off a solution. The bar shut early and all staff left again as we arrived late this felt very strange so we went to our room... Oh dear this is where my patience ran out... You can hear every whisper, switch every cough of the next door room, our bed was creaky especially the headboard... We came for a romantic break and the paper thin walls killed any passion we didn't even dare put the TV on as next door would be disturbed... Not much wifi not enough for streaming so it was a miserable hungry evening in a room with a tiny window to the side of the bed, we didn't even get to see the beautiful view... I really felt like an unwanted guest throughout... Breakfast was good but why they had the radio blasting throughout it was beyond me, just noise spoiling it, maybe some classical music would be appropriate to the setting and time of day... ... It's simply bad planning, bad execution and bad service... But the price is good, location is ok, and as long as you don't want to talk, drink, eat or be romantic you should be fine.
Review 98:Decor is nice, breakfast is excellent.
Review 99:Fish and chips in bar poor No heating in bedroom on arrival and after switching on "boost" by reception not much better. Following morning asked for fix, reception arranged for air bleed ok! Small TV stuck high on wall? All staff very good and friendly.
Review 100:Breakfast excellent
Review 101:The rooms/showers were smaller than expected. But overall it was a delight.
Review 102:We loved the location and the scenery. The breakfast was fantastic and in a delightful dining area. The staff were great!
Review 103:Room too small and didn't like the fact that everything was shut up at 23.00 also looking at other hotels for example Scaffell Hotel the price is high. WiFi connectivity poor and cumbersome.
Review 104:Staff - Evening Meal and location
Review 105:Although the conservatory is a lovely place to sit and see the landscape, as it is used as an entrance to the hotel, the restaurants, the kitchen and most of the rooms it is a busy thoroughfare and tends to be noisy.
Review 106:Excellent location with country walks up to the door. Excellent food and friendly service.
Review 107:The room we stayed in was very tired; part of the bathroom had wallpaper missing from the ceiling and the shower was intermittently hot and cold. The mattress on the bed was far too soft and really needed replacement. The facilities here are basic and they are striving for 1st class, however by updating the decor and providing a more laid back atmosphere this would be a great place to stay
Review 108:Breakfast was really good and the staff were friendly.
Review 109:We were very disappointed with our room. We booked a premier room but compared with others we have stayed in it was very average. The room was quite small and the bathroom very small. It was not good value for money.
Review 110:The location was good with lovely views, very peaceful yet only a 4 mile drive from Keswick. It was good to have a choice of 2 restaurants, unusual for a small hotel.
Review 111:One of the 2 robes was for a very (very) small adult. If both had been as big as the other one it would have been great, but how tiny a biggie is that?!
Review 112:Everything. Fantastically warm and friendly welcome, including ton2 local friends who dropped in to see us. And we're treated like guests. Unfailingly smiling, polite and attentive staff, a 4-poster room with lovely fixtures & fittings a great bathroom and great views. Comfortable, clean, quiet. And double wow on the food.
Review 113:The hotel had lovely views across the valley, our room was spacious and clean. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, the food menu was excellent. We had a very nice stay.
Review 114:Bit of a wait to be served a drink in evening and were asked to choose wine before we had seen the menu
Review 115:Location, views, bathroom and food all excellent
Review 116:Early breakfast unfortunately couldn't be accommodated. But that is not the end of the world, I guess.
Review 117:Food; Service; Cleanliness; the list goes on!!
Review 118:The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. The owner was very helpful with information on the local area and amenities. Our room was spacious and the extras were appreciated.
Review 119:the only problem we had was the wifi, but that was a small negative in the context of the hotel.
Review 120:It's a family style hotel , that makes you feel very welcome. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Had to compliment the chef. Lovely views from the conservatory, and very close to blassenthwaite lake.
Review 121:The en-suite bathroom needed updating but we were informed that this was to be done in the near future
Review 122:The friendliness of the staff, the hospitality and the food.
Review 123:The free wifi didn't work in our room, but we didn't really need it as there was so much to do and see
Review 124:Lovely little hotel, friendly staff. The views from the bar and restaurant are amazing and there is a gate at the back of the hotel leading to a country walkway. Well stocked bar. Our room was standard and described as compact but the shower and bathroom were still bigger and more useable than in many hotels. Lots of clever storage space in the room. We moved here on the last night of our holiday after two nights at a 4* hotel and much prefererred this place.
Review 125:Loved everything would definitely go again, but next time will stay longer. Loved it.
Review 126:It would have to be what didn't I like? The answer to that is nothing. The whole experience was great.
Review 127:A really peaceful and beautiful location. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Our room was beautiful, and the whole atmosphere at Ravenstone Lodge was relaxed and friendly. Quality, care and customer service were excellent.
Review 128:The bed was comfortable but springs and joining head board were noisy when you moved. Would have preferred a more powerful shower.
Review 129:Friendly and helpful staff that made us very welcome. Great food and wide choice.
Review 130:We had booked to stay one night at the Ravenstone Lodge, it was getting dark with heavy fog and saw the sign for the Ravenstone Manor. We stopped at the Manor and went to check in but he couldn't find our booking, the proprietor asked if I was sure it was the right hotel, I said Ravenstone Lodge, he said yes. I handed him my phone with all the booking details and he looked through it all, then proceeded to book us into the one room he had left, which had a four poster bed, just like our booking, so we thought nothing of it. We had dinner and stayed the night, but in the morning I found a missed call from the Ravenstone Lodge, I went to him and asked if it was his number and he said yes. I asked what it was about and if there was a problem and he acted evasive and said no. As we left, we saw the Ravenstone Lodge was on the other side of the road down a slight hill. We went in to talk to them and yes, our reservation was in fact there, that we had already paid for.. so we ended up paying twice for one night. A very costly night. We were told that he has done this before. Please don't get duped as we did. They are both in the same location, but one side of the road is honest, the other has no morals whatsoever.
Review 131:WiFi was difficult but mostly because of the remote location.
Review 132:Nicely restored hotel with a friendly staff. The restaurant was excellent. It was close to other towns in the lakes, while still being uncrowded.
Review 133:Our only criticism would be the wifi, but we were well warned, it's just a pain when you wish to look for local restaurants or things to do and can't do it from the comfort of your bed!
Review 134:The view from the hotel are beautiful, even though we were in a small room it has everything you need for a base for your trip. We ate from the bistro menu and my, the best steak I've had for years. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 135:The only negative was that the mattress in room 8 was very saggy and needs replacement.
Review 136:The lodge setting adjacent to pastures And a public footpath to the lake is wonderful.
