Reviews for The Greswolde Arms Hotel by Good Night Inns

Review 1:The towel rail did not work and was not repaired whilst there so the room was not as warm as it could have been. Some very inconsiderate guests were noisy in the corridor at 3am and continued to be noisy until 4am although someone had told them to quieten down. A generator was making sleeping difficult which was reported to hotel staff. The occupant of the next room also complained about this.

Review 2:location

Review 3:The room was accessed via two up stairs and one down - quite a struggle with bags etc . The windows were odscured by tape to conceal the fact your view was over the kitchen roof. The curtains hung over the only electric heater in the room a definitive fire risk which I drew to the attention of the reception staff.

Review 4:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and adequate.

Review 5:We had our sleep disturbed by noise from outside. Gutters and/or drainpipes banging against the wall in the wind. Poor sleep and tired the following day.

Review 6:Convenient location. Helpful staff. Good breakfast. Good size room and excellent bathroom.

Review 7:The sauna was not working which was one of the reasons for choosing The Greswolde. No room service available.

Review 8:We were staying in Knowle for a family Christmas. Finding the rooms were like a maze. Comfortable bedrooms. Friendly but very busy staff.

Review 9:Room noisy and looked out onto some kind of generator or extractor so couldn't have the window open. Workmen were outside the window swearing in the morning and I could hear the man in the room next door snoring. Bath had a chip in it.

Review 10:Very comfortable bed and friendly staff.

Review 11:room quality questionable. Shower was like someone standing over you with a watering can. Loads of black mould/ mildew under the controls, not very nice at all. Toilet doesn't flush properly. Plastic drinks cups and no bottled water. Workmen right outside my room at 8-8-30 am possibly sealing the roof etc with blow torches etc. Language very poor and considering I wanted some rest forget it. Told reception staff on checkout, dismissed as nothing had happened and also felt the need to comment on the amount of beers I've had the night before ( even though I had a guest join me in the bar. ) how rude. Would not recommend this hotel.... If you can call it that to anyone. Steer clear. Ps , room 20 if you feel you can be bothered to address the situation, room stay 9/12/15

Review 12:location ok

Review 13:We had three guests, all had rooms in different parts of the hotel, all were kept awake but the refrigeration cutting in and out all night for we assumed the kitchens. Also and not the fault of the Hotel, when making payment was over charged as Booking.com had sent the incorrect invoice to the hotel, we now need to wait 7 days for the refund centrally.

Review 14:Location and rooms

Review 15:Better if the breakfast was include in you price. It seemed a pity that after I filled in the reward form next visit I could get free breakfasts.

Review 16:Everything was ok.

Review 17:Good access to the NEC - we always come into Knowle for meals so it is logic to stay here if possible. Our next visit depends on the deal we can get for a 5 night stay 3 time per year.

Review 18:Noises like electrical equipment all day and started early morning around 6:30am. Woke us up. Not pleased.

Review 19:Friendly staff, nice food and great location.

Review 20:Would have preferred a room not on the main road, we are not used to traffic so had a "sleepless" night.

Review 21:Easy to find, good parking, friendly welcome and good food. Reasonable prices and very comfortable bed

Review 22:Asked for a double bed room however the bed was two singles put together and you could feel the gap between the beds whilst sleeping. Other than that no issues.

Review 23:Room cleanliness was good as was the bathroom, happy with that. Staff at reception really friendly and always helpful. Parking was alp avail be easily and convenient.

Review 24:The state of the bathroom - toilet seat loose and wobbled, basin tap leaked, and plug was difficult to put on basin hole, there was no toilet brush to attend to state of pan after use. One plug in bedroom was lethal - it was marked as checked 20 Jan 2015, the top was loose and the live wires were exposed - the holding screw had come loose - I screwed it up before it killed me!! The breakfast choice was limited - no cold buffet of meats and cheeses, which I prefer. Only plain, rather than flavoured, yogurts. The television turned itself off in the morning - presumably had exceeded allowed time. The carpets in public areas and the bedroom, and bedroom furniture, were tired - time for a refit. The room smelt of cigarette smoke and the corridor outside the room stank heavily of smoke - we were placed near "private" door and possibly staff smoke in there, even though it is supposed to be a smoke free establishment.

Review 25:The staff, particularly, Charlie the receptionist, were excellent - helpful, cheerful, pleasant and efficient. The breakfast was well cooked. The room had been newly redecorated.

Review 26:No staff available on reception. Always had to ring bell or ask another member of staff and then wait. Receptionist on checking out was grumpy. Only 2 sachet of tea or coffee in room, would have liked a second drink each

Review 27:Location to NEC, cleanliness of room

Review 28:The room were very spacious and well decorated. The entire hotel was clean and pleasant. We did not have any problems with any of the staff, they were all friendly. We did not eat in the hotel or use the bar but it looked nice from what we saw. The location was perfect for where we need to be.

Review 29:We were a large group, although many of us booked in sub groups. We had a privare funtction in another venue in Knowle and we hoped to all get together for a night cap at the hotel befor retiring for the night. I had asked the night before if this was possible and the bar staff said as we were residents and if we promissed to behave, we could have a night cap when we got back to the hotel. We explained that we wouldn't be back until approx 12.00 midnight but we were told that would be OK. On returning to the hotel, we were met by a young man cleaning up who said he was just security, and said he couldn't serve as the tills had been closed. Most hotels of this size would open up again for it's residents.

Review 30:The atmosphere created by the staff, deco' style etc. The food was very good.

Review 31:Couple of maintenance things in the room. Noisy people in the next room who think it's ok to talk at the top of their voices in the middle of the night.

Review 32:Good value for money. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 33:Expensive for a basic hotel, no breakfast included so disappointing.

Review 34:Convenient to where we needed to be, stayed with a group of friends so nice that it had a bar there too

Review 35:ignored by staff when waiting at reception, no safety facilities to assist you in and out of the bath/shower. people standing outside the main entrance smoking and with drinks plus a large amount of broken glass

Review 36:beds clean and comfy

Review 37:Would be nice if someone had been on duty to answer the phone at reception - 5+ attempts and nobody picked it up. Check-in staff did not come across as particularly welcoming ("so you made it at last")... well yes, thanks, we'd just had a terrible 200 mile drive after a delayed ferry crossing and plenty of rain. Were told bar was closed although quite a few locals still drinking in the bar. Toilet flush in the room was erratic, flushed about 1 in 5 times. Very wobbly desk in room, should be replaced. Waitress at breakfast didn't have us on her list for breakfast, but advised we could have full English when I produced our booking confirmation. Breakfast items kept running out and waitress needed reminding to top up. Took order for cooked breakfast and brought out random selection which didn't match either of our orders.

Review 38:We arrived at 11:30 p.m. and were relieved to find that reception was still open - having tried to phone them several times previously in the evening to notify them of our serious delay. We weren't sure what to expect as we just kept getting the answerphone. Large free car-park... although they send you out again when you check in to put a printout on your dashboard. Not what you feel up to after a long drive! Large room for an overall reasonable price, very comfortable bed. Good shower. Tasty breakfast, the quality was great compensation after getting wrong items for both our orders. Would we stay again? Probably yes, we'd give Goodnight Inns another chance!

Review 39:I was left sitting at breakfast waiting for a poached egg for at least 20 minutes, and after complaining it still didn't arrive, so I left as I was in danger of being late for work. The staff reaction to the problem was poor. Also the reception desk was hardly ever manned, the customer has to ring a bell and wait.

Review 40:The hotel is well situated in Knowle, which is a nice little town, and its not too far from the M42.

Review 41:Loud group of people next door to our room from 1am onwards, who had no consideration for other guests, but not the hotels fault!

Review 42:The room rate is very reasonable and the rooms are very nicely decorated and equip for a 3 star

Review 43:While breakfast staff were very helpful, the waiting staff on Sunday evening were conspicuous by their absence - we had to search for waiter to bring us a plate of cheese and biscuits. Traffic noise was a nuisance at night.

Review 44:We liked the pretty village setting and the breakfast waiting staff were pleasant and efficient. The accommodation itself was all that we needed.

Review 45:Almost no staff on when the hotel was full Did not sort out lack of lights - ours did not work but the staff levels were so low the message probably did not get passed on

Review 46:very comfortable beds

Review 47:Maybe due to a late booking but sleep was disturbed by a generator working through the night.

Review 48:The attentive staff, tasty food. Excellent accommodation

Review 49:There was a lot of stairs and The room was very far from the reception as I was getting wed that weekend and I struggled to get to outside with my big dress. So there is nothing you could do about the stairs but if there was an equivalent room nearer reception, that would have been ideal.

Review 50:The king size room was really spacious and lovely decorated. The staff were very helpful.

Review 51:The fact they were fully booked for 4 days in a row (conference of 150-180 guests) So I understand..

Review 52:The ease of transfer of checking and flexibility of the staff

Review 53:The reception is part of the public bar area and on arrival there were a number of "locals" who were very loud and using foul language. I'm certainly no prude but this was not a great arrival.

Review 54:Location

Review 55:Breakfast a bit confusing - took a while to realise I had to find a member of staff to order "hot" food - and the bacon sandwich I ordered was rather limp hardly cooked rashers on basic sliced bread - I'd expect something much better in quality. Previous experience was better.

Review 56:Excellent location, friendly staff.

Review 57:Very understaffed. Meal was returned. Room was tiny and we were moved to a ground floor room which was a little better. Waited 15 mins for breakfast service. Were staying two nights but checked out after one night. Very poor quality of room and service.

Review 58:We have stayed here before but this time, despite being a premium room, there was unacceptable noise from machinery (related to the bar are below?). We were told it would be turned off but it wasn't. We were unable to sleep eventually had to leave (in the middle of the night) and catch a taxi home. The staff did not seem surprised so I guess this is a known issue in some rooms.

Review 59:Customer service wasn't great. Reception staff also work in bar, so no one at reception for long periods. 2nd bed in our room was not made up. had to ask 3 times for bed linen. Eventually got one pillow, 1 sheet and a single duvet with no cover.

Review 60:Family room was excellent, best iv stayed in. My husband and 2 yr old missed breakfast, but kitchen obliged and provided cooked breakfast for them

Review 61:But far for my 89 year old mum to get from reception to her room. She counted the steps - 30.

Review 62:Central location near plenty of restaurants. Nice bar and beer garden.

Review 63:Many items on the dinner menu were 'unavailable' including items from the special July Summer menu which was advertised on A-boards and posters throughout the hotel.

Review 64:Hooray - a new Manager!!! It appears there have been many staff changes - I am trusting this will improve the experience and return it to it's previous status when managed by Kay, who is working her 'magic' in a sister hotel!

Review 65:I asked for an earlier breakfast as I am on a 7AM shift in a nearby hospital. I was told they can do it for 06:15. Came down at 06:20, no sign of it and a different staff didn't know anything about it. Just left with utilising what we paid for (breakfast).

Review 66:Lock and handle on bathroom door did not work properly resulting in my daughter being locked in the bathroom. However, Manager very quickly appeared and resolved the problem. It had also been noted to be fixed when I checked out.

Review 67:Staff very friendly. Food was very nice....especially breakfast!

Review 68:The Sauvignon Blanc was dreadful as was the Pinot Grigio. Was it a bulk buy? The hot water in room was too hot for a shower and the option of using a bathroom on another floor unacceptable. No cold water at all in shower. No soap in bathroom and liquid soap impossible to extract. Unable to get breakfast at 07.45 nor pay bill. Cleaner said someone would phone re bill but after 2 days nothing.

Review 69:Not a lot.

Review 70:Bedroom and bathroom decor requires refreshing and there were the most depressing odd nudes on the wall? Not sure why they were chosen but they were awful. Bathroom was not overly fresh and curtains wouldn't close properly. Light came in at the crack of dawn.

Review 71:The breakfasts were acceptable but not brilliant - for example the hotel had "run out of fresh fruit salad" on both Friday and Saturday!!! We discovered that the best breakfast was freshly cooked scrambled eggs on toast with a couple of rashers of bacon on the side.

Review 72:All of the staff without exception were very helpful and friendly

Review 73:Rather creaky floor and lack of air conditioning in room meant leaving window open - which faced onto main road so traffic noise was an issue.

Review 74:Friendly welcome from staff and room clean and adequately spacious.

Review 75:Insufficient staff on hand to serve drinks at the bar or provide service in the restaurant. Ended up eating out....

Review 76:Room was reasonably appointed and priced

Review 77:Just unfortunate that weekend breakfasts start at 08.00 and we needed to start at 07.00 so couldn't have a cooked breakfast.

Review 78:Extremely helpful and cheerful staff. Very nice rooms and bar/restaurant area.

Review 79:Rooms on the front (23-31) are in the older part of the Hotel fronting the main road. Windows were ill-fitting and the secondary glazing was not up to keeping road noise out.

Review 80:Restaurant and bar choices were good and the staff very helpful and friendly. Comfortable room.

Review 81:Location was perfect for my needs and the hotel was good value for money with friendly staff. Although breakfast was not included it was reasonably priced with no limit on how much one could have from the breakfast bar.

Review 82:Front of house staff were either brilliant or in one case needed a change of style or a bit of improvement in people skills

Review 83:The staff and atmosphere were excellent and our 4 night stay was for a family event and we were all well pleased

Review 84:Before I booked I called the hotel to find out what time breakfast was served on the weekend. As I had to leave early on Saturday and Sunday I booked the hotel after being told breakfast was served at 7am each day. So I booked the hotel based on this. I was not impressed to find out this was incorrect and breakfast was served from 8am each day! Therefore I was unable to have breakfast on the two days I stayed even though I had paid for it! Not happy as I would not have booked the hotel of I had been told this. However, the hotel was great.

Review 85:Hotel was superb, very comfy clean and tidy.

Review 86:Three or four times from 11pm onwards I was woken by other guests arriving or leaving ;shouting through the corridors. I felt like I was in a hostel. I mentioned this at check out but the staff member didn't respond ! Wifi didn't work very well . Bed was awful.

Review 87:Restaurant/bar area lovely, most of the staff very helpful . Let down by standard of room unfortunately.

Review 88:Window not double glazed and old , rattled a bit in the wind and would be quite cold in the winter. Although my room was overlooking the front of the hotel and the main street it was reasonably quiet but some traffic noise and noise from customers leaving or smoking outside.

Review 89:Friendly staff, nice size room and on suit. Good food and plenty to choose from. Breakfast was superb and service very prompt.

Review 90:Unfortunately we had trouble with the room reservation. We have got the booking.com reservation by mail, the hotel unfortunately hasn´t have the reservation in their system. But thanks to the motivated reception officer we found a reasonable solution.

Review 91:Good location, excellent restaurant, good service

Review 92:New Receptionist unsure what she was doing - where is her training? No one at bar for 10 minutes at a time. Disinterested waitress at dinner - no choice of tables to sit at; her choice or nothing. Out of date yoghurts at breakfast. What has happened - it used to be fabulous a month ago...

Review 93:The bathroom had hairs on the WC The bed was two singles pushed together we asked for another room and same again. Could not be bothered to move again

Review 94:Location room bar and Resturant

Review 95:I'm a female account manager, travelling on a regular basis with overnight stays and I felt very comfortable in the dining room together with the friendliness of the staff. the bedroom was comfortable with very clean bedding.

Review 96:Hotel in need of some tlc particularly the carpets and décor Bar prices on the high side

Review 97:Village location close to Motorway Plenty of outdoor seating Large car park

Review 98:Discovered we only had one bath towel between the two of us after we'd showered.

Review 99:Clean and good value for money. Convenient location away from the hustle and bustle of the nec. Would stay again.

Review 100:The Windows need replacing thicker double glazing I could hear all traffic especially lorries parked outside the window at 8am with their engines left running whilst unloading.

Review 101:The friendly staff & huge soft bed.

Review 102:i had brought a bottle of champagne as the room offered a mini bar... sadly no mini bar. we ordered food... different food arrived.

Review 103:Size of the double bed

Review 104:the bed was 2 singles put together so kept lying in the ridge of the two

Review 105:large area of speace, clean, friendly staff, very accomodating as i requested an early morning check in.

Review 106:Found the room quite noisy at night with the sound of a compressor or similar type machine.

Review 107:Hotel location was perfect for our visit. Staff were very helpful especially the lad at checkout.

Review 108:Never did manage to get WiFi. Might have been our tablet though. Not a major concern.

Review 109:Nice meal comfortable room knowle is a busy and thriving place with individual shops and good supply of Indian restaurants. We were particularly pleased with the service from the restaurant staff on Thursday 26th march.

Review 110:The rooms and corridors could do with a makeover - looking a bit jaded.

Review 111:Staff are very friendly. Food is good and the double beds are some of the most comfortable that we have slept in.

Review 112:It was noisy in the bedroom through the night, especially on the Saturday night. It sounded like an air con unit.

Review 113:The room was very spacious, bed comfortable breakfast excellent. The staff were very friendly.

Review 114:Didn't like that there wasn't robes in the room, for the money i would have liked a little extra attention to detail. Also would have liked to have been able to have breakfast in the room instead of having to go downstairs

Review 115:liked the room, the staff were very helpful and pleasant

Review 116:Air con was a little noisy during the night but i wouldnt mark down for that

Review 117:very comfortable good location, made to feel very welcome. All food was good we ate there in the evenings as well. Very handy for the NEC Bed was the best ive ever slept in.

Review 118:Only one towel in our double room. Asked for another and found it on the floor outside our door when we came back later that evening. Terrible hygiene.

Review 119:Location.

Review 120:Bedroom window rather awkward to open and this made our night a bit airless-easier in daylight! The room was very warm but this would have suited some guests.

Review 121:Comfy, clean and friendly.

Review 122:We were at the front of the hotel and there was a lot of road traffic noise all night

Review 123:The beds were very comfortable we also had a lovely evening meal very well priced thank you for a lovely stay

Review 124:Rooms were a tad too hot. Although my fault for not opening the window because I was too comfy.

Review 125:Virtually everything staff in particular we all excellent

Review 126:The only one slight negative was that the room was a bit too hot! I turned off the heater (I think) but it still felt very warm. However, this is much better than being too cold.

Review 127:Friendly welcome. Room was very comfortable with nice outlook over High Street. Very quiet Nice meal in restaurant with attentive friendly staff. Perfect location for visiting nearby relative

Review 128:King bed was actually 2 single beds put together.

Review 129:Nice big King size bed Bar and restaurant downstairs. Handy but not noisy. Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 130:All the sheets and towels were nice. The room was nice though it is a single room I was booked into, the bed was a three quarter bed, so plenty of space! The hotel just has a lovely feel to it! Highly recommended! PS I spotted a Thai restaurant opposite the road too, so may have dinner there next time.

Review 131:Breakfast was awful, taste and presentation. Hotel was kind enough to deduct the breakfast from out bill. Room looked a bit dated.

Review 132:Service was very good.

Review 133:No lift.

Review 134:Lovely big family room. Good standards. Very Friendly staff. Reception staff and house keeping staff made us feel very welcome. Thank you to them for working over the busy Christmas period and being so positive and friendly.

Review 135:The Car Park! across that busy side road from the hotel was a nightmare! very difficult to negotiate especially with suitcases!! we had a few near misses with traffic coming round the corner. Was difficult without a lift in the Hotel too hauling cases up the stairs!

Review 136:The good proximity to the shops etc, nice friendly staff and the fact you could have a relaxing meal and drink after a busy day in a nice atmosphere.

Review 137:We have stayed at the Greswolde a number of times and find it very suitable for our needs. We would recommend it to anyone staying in the Solihull area.

Review 138:When we went for dinner at 7.30 pm we were told there would be a one to one and a half hour wait . We appreciate that a large party ( we were told 40) had arrived unexpectedly but surely hotel guests should have preference. As it was we went elsewhere .

Review 139:Room was clean and warm , breakfast was fresh and lots of choice . My husband used the gym and sauna and enjoyed them .
