Reviews for Heads Nook Hall
Review 1:Small flies in the bathroom and lack of fixed shower are the only reason I didn't give top marks in all areas.
Review 2:Amazing building, very luxurious. Management made it special for my fiancee's 30th which was much appreciated.
Review 3:Welcoming staff Wonderful antiques Fantastic breakfast room open fire and fresh fruit selection shame was a work trip could have relaxed all day may be next trip
Review 4:Nothing!
Review 5:If you're looking for peace and quiet in luxurious surroundings Heads Nook Hall ticks all the boxes. We were welcomed by Malcolm with home made scones and tea in the lounge which instantly made us feel relaxed. Our room was magnificent....it had the comfiest four poster bed I have ever slept in. There was an abundant selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate in the room and biscuits as well (a nice touch.) The bathroom was outstanding with a fantastic free standing tub you could fill right up for a long deep soak and wonderful fluffy large towels.Bliss!
Review 6:Cannot find anything to not like.
Review 7:A wonderful Victorian pile that has been lovingly restored, expertly managed by the owner Malcolm. Very friendly welcome and a totally fabulous breakfast in front of a roaring log fire. Bedrooms to die for.
Review 8:We had an amazing stay at this lovely Hall in Cumbria, felt like a king for an evening, lovely people and a fantastic setting, tea and scones in front of a roaring fire and a wonderful breakfast, highly recommended for any one who wants to be a Lord or Lady
Review 9:Lovely warm welcome, delicious tea and scones and the bedroom was wonderful (the Blue room). Large and tastefully decorated with a fantastic bathroom complete with fireplace, freestanding bath and a separate shower. The breakfast was sumptuous with cereal, porridge and so much seasonal fresh fruit and fruit juice prior to a cooked breakfast to order. The Manager Mandy couldn't do enough for us. The owner Malcolm is a lovely gentleman who gave us a lot of information on the local area. The house itself is wonderful and the grounds delightful. We stayed 2 nights and this was just not long enough. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants in the area for evening meals. Mandy made sure that we had copies of the guest information and directions to the various places we could go to for an evening meal. She made us so welcome a lovely lady, A place to return to frequently to relax and unwind. The Owner and the Manager really care about their guests and this is demonstrated by so many thoughtful touches. For example a blazing log fire in the dining room at breakfast on a dull and cloudy day.
Review 10:No real gripes ... a shower would've been nice rather than a bath & I'm never too keen on a carpet in the bathroom ... that said, gripe is minuscule and far outweighed by hospitality of the owners and the large & beautifully furnished rooms.
Review 11:Great halfway 'pit stop' for a family trip to Scotland. Great location, great breakfast and the use of leisure facilities was an added bonus. Creaky floorboards, creepy portraits and hooting owls gave a sense of foreboding and were a talking point with my children... just as well the owners were half human - now that really would've been the icing on the cake!!!
Review 12:!Great location, but without a car evening meals became a bit of a mission with some local pubs closed on weekday nights.
Review 13:Malcolm and Mandy the hosts made us feel so very welcome. Great local information. A country manor house with real wow factor and service to back it up.
Review 14:Breakfast not very good and recommendations for dinner patchy as we had dog with us. Shame no close restaurants for evening meal.
Review 15:Good location for traveling to Scotland
Review 16:We especially enjoyed the warmest of welcomes on arrival and a fantastic breakfast in front of the fire before departure, oh and of course everything in between.
Review 17:A warm welcome by Malcolm with offer of tea and scones at 8pm! Heads Nook Hall is a fabulous property, lovingly restored. It was a real treat to spend a night there, just sorry it was such a short stay. Breakfast was delightful with a good choice.
Review 18:We had the green room and the bed in there was too short for my 6'3" husband, who ended up sleeping on the floor. But the owner allowed us to leave without penalty.
Review 19:Beautiful house, very spacious room and bathroom. Huge garden for the dogs to run around in.
Review 20:All aspects - a little disappointed with scaffolding and no notice of driveway entrance. Would definite stay again when in area. Malcolm very helpful.
Review 21:A drive essential for evening meal but if a pub were in walking distance, you would not have the silence. Can't have everything!
Review 22:Grand old Victorian house in rural setting. A welcome at the door and help with the case from Malcolm. Spectacular staircase and furnished wonderfully. Splendid breakfast and porridge excellent. Completely silent at night. Recommended pubs were good.
Review 23:Nothing to dislike
Review 24:The house is very grand but welcoming, spotless, and very comfortable. The staff could not be more friendly or accommodating. Our room was very large clean and comfortable and the en-suite was lovely. The breakfast is as good as it gets with everything you could wish for. The hotel is ideally situated for a stopover from the M6 on route from the midlands to Cairnryan ferry.
Review 25:Wonderful stay. Extremely friendly and helpful owner for whom nothing was too much trouble. Delicious breakfast. Luxurious room. Spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable.
Review 26:excellent 1840 home very comfortable, quiet & tranquil setting with large garden to roam. Excellent local restaurants within 3-4 miles. very friendly & helpful hosts. Very handy to Hadrian's wall & roman forts
Review 27:The faux leather and the cheap carpet in the yellow room made the room feel a bit like an old people's home. A trip to a good antiques auction would make a big difference.
Review 28:Fabulous Victorian manor house, like something from a period drama. My wife thought it was haunted.
Review 29:One of my party is disabled and has to use a walker. He can do stairs but slowly. If perhaps I had realised the effort it would take him to use the stairs here, I may not have booked...but all of us were soooo glad I did! It was totally worth the effort.
Review 30:Tranquil location. Mandy, her daughter and the other young lady there were lovely and friendly. Beautiful rooms and decor throughout. Great breakfast, attention to detail, fresh flowers in the breakfast room. Hope to stay again x
Review 31:The signage for the house is non-existent, and we actually pulled into the drive and still could not ascertain whether we were in the right place. Locals could not direct us there; our GPS sent us to a nearby housing estate; there was no mark on the house or entrance, and there is a very confusing parallel drive leading to a small housing development to the rear of the B&B. We were unable to easily get information on local trekking pathways.
Review 32:We had difficulty finding Head's Nook Hall, but once there, we could not have been more delighted. The setting is lovely, the house spacious and well appointed, the staff helpful and unobtrusive, the food more than adequate. (For dinner we were directed to a local pub that proved ideal as well.) We had excellent privacy--not always to be found in a country house B&B. Our room was beautiful, and the views stunning. The bathroom was a delight, with a big soaking tub and room to move around. All amenities were just as we like them, without ostentation or silly attempts to jazz the guests overmuch. It was like being at home, at least if you happen to be a rather well-to-do country squire with a quirky Victorian manse and good taste.
Review 33:Tiny shower stall; lack of AC (although large multiple windows in BR compensated; need to carry bags up long heights (but high ceilings were stunning); distance of house from Carlisle (but that's probably what enables it to be so grand in size and style0
Review 34:HUGE bedrooms and bathroom; Funky, personal, period decorations
Review 35:The place is not signed at the roadside entrance - fortunately a dog-walker in the town was able to direct us. The nights were very hot and it was suggested we open the windows to keep the place cool, which we did and it worked. However we would have preferred a fan but assumed none were available, so didn't ask. On mentioning this at checkout we were advised fans were available. We should have asked but we feel the availability of fans should have been made clear. But these are not complaints, just observations from a couple of guests who enjoyed their stay immensely.
Review 36:Just about everything at this great place was perfect. The welcome, the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, who genuinely wanted you to have a great time. It's spotlessly clean and in an idyllic, quiet location that is handy for so many places to visit. Super breakfasts with fabulous choice of great food. I am sure we will return to enjoy another 3-night luxury break.
Review 37:EVERYTHING. The welcome from Mandy was second to none, the house is beautiful and so comfortable. We had the Gold and the Green Rooms and they were both perfect. Breakfast was excellent. There is nothing I would change, even the fact that there is no sign at the end of the drive to indicated that this gem is at the end of it!
Review 38:After spending three weeks in the UK at a number of exceptional B&B's, Heads Nook Hall would have to have been the best of the best. Its county setting and garden surrounds coupled with the first class accommodation made this a very special place to stay. Whilst it may have been a little more expensive than most, it was worth it. Mandy was extremely welcoming and friendly without being the least bit intrusive. Some great eating places within ten minute drive. By far the most relaxing stay on our whole UK trip. Would recommend without any reservation.
Review 39:Would be nice if there had been a bar in the premise, but it is a guest house not a hotel.

Review 78:Loved the room and enjoyed the breakfast.
Review 79:A very small quibble - would have liked a soap dish in the swower -prefer soap to shower gel. It was, though, an excellent shower.
Review 80:We were made very welcome - I was given tea and scones on arrival and, because it was a cool afternoon, the fire was lit in the sitting room for me. The following morning, despite being the only guests, we had our very good breakfast in the dining room and again the fire had been lit. Lovely touch.
Review 81:I thought it was a tad expensive and overpriced. Yes it was a nice old hall and everything was there what we needed but maybe a bit too much.
Review 82:It was all good, nothing to complain about. The manageress Barbara was very friendly and helpful.
Review 83:The friendly and caring staff who really look after you. beautiful big clean bedrooms and bathrooms. Waking up and being served Breakfast while sat next to a big fire first thing in the mornig. The house is lovely and so peaceful and quite, just what u need when all u want to do is relax.

The hotel is beautiful andunique, spotless and the breakfast was one of the best we ever had. Ifwe are in the area again we will be returning. The hotel is was veryconvenient as we were traveling from Newcastle and we were going to theferry in Cairnryan the next day so it was very close to the route thatwe were traveling on.
