Reviews for Howard Arms Hotel
Review 1:Toilet not totally clean on arrival. Quilt on bed very thin, so was cold and needed to put my dressing gown on during the night to keep warm, ( it was December ). Not all the staff were friendly and smiley.
Review 2:Lovely location overlooking the town and the Christmas lights.
Review 3:Coffee at breakfast could be stronger.
Review 4:Friendly and helpful staff, hot shower, single room small but comfortable and warm, firm mattress. Overall excellent value.
Review 5:Paid for double, got given single bed! Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Could hear everything in next door room! No wifi. Toilet didn't flush properly
Review 6:Food was good! Shower pressure good!
Review 7:you have to be in the pub before it closes, and it closes early for UK, with no way to access the rooms other than through the bar.
Review 8:excellent rooms with great value for money.
Review 9:One of the female staff very abrupt not a nice attitude , and we booked evening dinner it was shocking burnt horrible taste sent one meal back and just left the other clearly couldn't cook defnitly not a chief rubbish totely different breakfast it was lovely , we should have had it for our evening meal
Review 10:The pub and the room and the breakfast
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:Pleasant Manager & Staff very helpful & friendly Single Bedroom was very comfy with a good powerful shower. A good price deal for B & B at £25.00 !!
Review 13:The staff are so friendly, the food is fab and the breakfast is brilliant. The rooms are good and clean, I'll be staying for the 3rd time soon and will be using this hotel for staying when I'm on business in the area. I'm a lady travelling on her own and everyone I have met has been really friendly therefore making it an enjoyable stay. Great value for money too.
Review 14:The breakfast was disappointing,a lot of it but not very warm, there was no toast served with it and we weren't offered a second cup ot tea or coffee.
Review 15:The central location was a plus.
Review 16:A grubby carpet is always a big turn off for me, and the room could do with a refresh. Otherwise it was clean and pleasant.
Review 17:Lovely location and very warm and welcoming pub.
Review 18:Food was good but we had evening meal both evenings and we often had to change our order because food wasn't available. I can understand the roast beef running out by Sunday evening but when a basic such as ice cream ran out, I felt this was very bad planning.
Review 19:room was lovely and staff were very friendly
Review 20:One of the rooms we booked didn't have any heating working at first, but an electric heater was brought to the room later. But the other room was fine.
Review 21:The location in the town, and the bar was friendly and warm.
Review 22:Sadly, not so much friendliness from some people in the morning. Maybe this individual was having a bad day.
Review 23:Warm welcome from staff on the evening of my arrival. Cozy, well kept room.
Review 24:Lack of hot water (think they had a problem), but hey at that price who is moaning
Review 25:In a pretty border town close to Lanercost Priory. Lovely room and the food was excellent
Review 26:Curtains were too thin & so let the light in which meant I didn't sleep too well. Heavier curtains would've helped.
Review 27:Good location for what I needed
Review 28:Breakfast was delicious but service slow due to an event taking place in the town which meant they had lots of extra people coming in for refreshments. It felt as though those of us actually staying in the hotel were a lower priority for service.
Review 29:Large well equipped room; clean and well looked after. Staff very helpful on arrival.
Review 30:It felt like the accommodation side of the business was secondary to the bar and restaurant. No lounge for guests. Window in my room was seriously cracked and would not open. Air extractor in bathroom not working so whole room steamed up. Not possible to close bathroom door properly from bedroom
Review 31:Convenient to Hadrian's Wall nice touches in bedroom - bottle of water, fruit and tissues
Review 32:Ian the manager went above and beyond to give us a good stay. We ate in the restaurant and all the meals were superb and not too expensive. Excellent service, would definitely recommend.
Review 33:Set in a quiet little market town but handy for some of Cumbria's sights such as Birdoswald Roman Camp. An old coaching in with quaint features and good food and beer.
Review 34:Can't think of anything!!
Review 35:Everyone was really friendly, the room was lovely and the location was right in the centre of a lovely village with plenty of facilities.
Review 36:No Late entry key..had to get someone out of bed to open door for us even though we weren't particularly late.
Review 37:Location Great breakfast Friendly staff Good beer
Review 38:Surprised to find myself locked out at 10.20 p.m. and no bell to ring. I had to bang on the door to attract someone's attention!
Review 39:Good parking, Easy to use shower
Review 40:Friendly Staff and locals. Free WiFi although not the best reception in the room. Good food and realistically priced ale. Awesome, fresh cooked breakfast included in the price.
Review 41:The meals were lovely. In particular the Cumberland sausage casserole was excellent. The breakfast was excellent and above all the staff were lovely.Good value for money and my room was very clean.
Review 42:Not really a bad experience but it appeared that the staff were often very rushed and expected to multitask a little too much.
Review 43:Excellent breakfast and pleasant staff. Clean and pleasant rooms.
Review 44:everything was quite perfect for a stay after hiking along hadrian's hall and being quite tired. Beautiful room, lovely staff, good evening meal and even better breakfast… good value for the money!!
Review 45:Last order was 10pm and we had to go back to our bedroom at 10.30 as there is no way back into the bedroom after the pub is shut but the heating is off until 11pm so we had no choice but sat in our room freezing and watched the TV
Review 46:Can't fault the food or the bedroom. Big and comfortable for two people. The cooked breakfast was well presented and very tasty.
Review 47:The local thug wanting to have a fight with everyone, this needs to be sorted. The wi-fi coverage is poor and need to be updated.
Review 48:The hotel staff are fantastic. The rooms are big and clean. The bar has a very friendly atmosphere.
Review 49:Mobile phone signal not the best in the bar area.
Review 50:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent Value for money. Good food. Amazing fresh cooked breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 51:Would have liked to see information about the town itself in the venue, that said I may not have seen it.
Review 52:Staff were friendly and helpful. Felt comfortable as a solo female traveller. Lovely town.
Review 53:Cups and glasses were not fully washed clean, probebly an oversight but still a little off-putting.
Review 54:wonderfull room, lovely ambiance with the four poster bed and sash windows. far better than a travel lodge. Very good food and value.
Review 55:The rooms were small. The double room had only one stool if you didn't want to sit on the bed, no chairs. Being a pub, and in the town centre, deliveries start before 8am. There are 2 town clocks which chime through the night, (not together!), so if you are a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. The evening meal, beef and ale pie needed the gravy in it thickened. Consequently, the meat was dry.
Review 56:The barman, Ian, was very helpful and informative. There was a welcome bowl of fruit. The breakfast was good. Evening meal, gammon steak was huge and tasty.
Review 57:There was a live group playing in the bar which was below our bedroom. It stopped about midnight but the noise then went in for another hour.
Review 58:The tapas which we shared as a starter were excellent as were our main courses. Breakfast seemed to be freshly prepared rather than having been made long beforehand. Parking on a Saturday night was very easy and very close to the hotel entrance.
Review 59:Excellent staff who made us very welcome. Room very big, warm, clean and Comfortable. Excellent breakfast to send us on our way. All in all and enjoyable night. We will be back soon.
Review 60:It was clean and comfortable. I was in the smallest room on the top floor which was excellent value for money. The shower worked as if I was under Niagra Falls!
Review 61:The Head woman demanded my credit card details including the security number, which I had entered into Booking.com already. This made me nervous....so I asked for the form back when I left next morning.
Review 62:Good value for money Right in the main street but not noisy at night. Good food in the pub. Good breakfast.
Review 63:The archway into the car park at the back a bit tight to negotiate if not sober. No real negatives.
Review 64:Good location in center of Brampton. We stayed there as it was a good base for exploring Hadrian's Wall. Basically a pub with good range of drinks and a restaurant with a more adventurous menu than the usual pub fare, including a few Spanish/Mexican dishes. Very friendly staff including a house dog.
Review 65:Rooms are slightly dated..
Review 66:Friendly staff and hotel is in a good location. Each room has a different Dickens characters name which makes it quite novel.
Review 67:Bed was uncomfortable.
Review 68:A nice little place to stay near to some great outdoor locations. Parking at the rear of the hotel. The staff were friendly and attentive, the room was pleasant but the bed was a bit stiff, that's the only reason I would lower the score.
Review 69:Stairs! Internet connection difficult and intermittent Room small, tight Street noise at night
Review 70:Location ATM across the road Shops around the corner Good breakfast
Review 71:Poor parking, unable to see vehicle, lack of room.No space for largeestate to turn.music some nights every week can affect sleep.
Review 72:Bed,promt service of staff.
Review 73:A short distance from the wall by taxi, the hotel is situated in the centre of Brampton, a pleasant, small market town. A good breakfast was supplied and the pub itself had a lot of character.
Review 74:The bedroom carpet needed cleaning the hall landing stairs needed a repaint
Review 75:Great breakfast good value for money comfy bed clean towels and bed linnen
Review 76:The staff were not that helpful. There was limited parking at the rear of the hotel. They gave you the remote control at check in. The TV had poor reception with a constant background buzz. T decoration was old, dated and tired The quality of the food was poor in the evening. breakfast was not much better
Review 77:The room was a decent size and the bed was comfortable.
Review 78:Because of the central location, at times outside noise could be a problem because the windows are not double glazed.
Review 79:The staff were very friendly and helpful, I always felt welcomed and looked after. The location was also fantastic, being right in the centre of the village there were lots of local amenities right on the doorstep, and even a regular bus that runs to Carlisle or Newcastle.
Review 80:evening meals disappointing,4 pieces of meat in the pie, veg cold. gammon nothing special basic plate.stop eating there after too nights.shame as breakfast was spot on1
Review 81:staff were helpful, room comfortable and clean shower excellent and plenty of hot water.best breakfast i ve had in ages. all round very good.
Review 82:Settling for a nap and discovering that the bed smelled of stale urine. Pulling back the bed covers to find a large urine stain on the mattress Being moved to an inferior room with no natural ventilation (only a small non-opening window overlooking a fire escape) in the bed room - only ventilation coming from a small window in the ensuite along the corridor. Not being able to sleep on a bed in which the springs had "gone". Not having my politeness reciprocated by the management (my desire to avoid creating a scene in a busy bar was taken as a sign that I was "happy" with my room), and being threatened with the the police when I said that I was not prepared to pay the full price for this room. The manager's bullying approach to a lone female (husband and sons had gone to load car) and his refusal to listen and have a reasonable discussion - refused to accept that cleanliness and comfort are very basic requirements for a room costing £80. Being repeatedly told that this "is just a coaching inn - what do you expect?" - for £80, a clean (unpleasant stains on lampshade, chairs and on the base of the divan in my sons' twin room - no valance so brown stains in full view), comfortable room! Yet all room signs describe the rooms as "executive". Would have happily paid £80 if the rooms (original and replacement) had been clean and comfortable - i.e. able to sleep. Stayed in 6 other hotels this week on our walking holiday, and this was by far the worst - and also one of the most expensive. Very poor customer service, the worst I have ever encountered in hundreds of hotel stays -
Review 83:Young bar staff - professional and helpful
Review 84:3 flights of stairs with heavy cases
Review 85:central location welcoming staff clean in all areas well furnished reasonably priced and tasty evening meals excellent cooked breakfast
Review 86:Nothing everything was fine.
Review 87:A nice country pub with helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked to order and evening meals were just as good. The room we had was a good size and nicely decorated. Would recommend.
Review 88:there is a lockdown at night when guests can not get in or out i nearly ended up on the street for the night with all our stuff including car keys inside i find this totally unacceptable
Review 89:that they didn,t have a card machine for payment you had to write down your bank detail on paper
Review 90:staff were very helpful and friendly the food was lovely would stay again
Review 91:Limited parking to rear of hotel, disc display parking at front
