Reviews for Rothmans B&B
Review 1:nice quite new... rather old and dirty. very noisy stairs so you hear everyone walking. extremly annoying handle with keybord to put in the door code :(
Review 2:very helpfull and nice owner. spacy room. i had to leave before breakfast being served but in the kitchen you can always find bread cheese and ham +++ for me !
Review 3:Cleaners did not do there job. Dust and Dirt everywere in room
Review 4:Very Different Quirky like going back in time. But comfortable.Breakfast good but you had to be there or it would go cold,
Review 5:Difficult to find the place at night as the sign is scarcely visible, just trust your sat nav!
Review 6:Loved our comfortable room with king sized bed and wisteria growing outside the window overlooking the garden. Great breakfast with weekend papers and very amenable host.
Review 7:Location tucked away with no immediate drive way to make it obvious where to turn off the main road.
Review 8:A hidden gem and great value for money. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help.
Review 9:The plumbing in such an old building obviously poses some challenges but that's a small price to pay for the pleasure of staying in such a beautiful place.
Review 10:Wonderful historic property with period details and owners who have thought of everything to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
Review 11:Ensuite very small and no toiletries provided. TV and stand out of place with character. A small fridge would be great.
Review 12:4 poster bed and room is lovely. Central location. Quiet and private.
Review 13:Ensuite bathroom was very small and the outside could do with some more lighting around the signs to make the property easier to find.
Review 14:Peter was very informative of how everything works at the hotel and had pre laid out my invoice so need to chase it in the morning. Room was very spacious and good TV and Sky to the room itself. Breakfast was very nice. well done Peter and Thank you.
Review 15:Maybe the digicode to get into the room or inside the hotel was not quite convenient to use especially at night but there's nothing to complain about, really, the overall experience was great and I highly recommend this place
Review 16:Was a cozy place and it felt very welcoming and homely. Was very sweet to have the breakfast prepared in such a detailed way
Review 17:Room allocation paperwork completely wrong. 1st room, beds falling apart, 2nd room holes in duvet cover, bathroom not fit for my dogs. No input from the owners, overnight tea cups & glasses not washed, bed not made. Breakfast only available on the dot of 8.30 Saturday & 9am Sunday& precooked so being late would be awful. The whole experience was stressfull & faintly disgusting
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Lighting poor over keypad access on doors - bring a torch for night arrivals! :)
Review 20:Superb facilities; flexibility of breakfast access even on weekends.... hot/cooked breakfast not available but other options in abundance!
Review 21:I had a shower later and the Matt was soaking. Not pleasant standing on other people's post shower water. Access was difficult with kids nursery barrocades blocking exit and entry to b&b. Was hard to negate with a case.
Review 22:Location is good for getting dinner. 2 local pubs and also local store
Review 23:Cramped en suite in the four poster room. Too many instruction notices.
Review 24:Lovely historic house, quirky, large garden. Easy to find. Generous spread for breakfast.
Review 25:All good
Review 26:Fabulous stay at this lovely b and b. We were lucky to find somewhere close to v festival. The manager was absolutely amazing and put a lot of effort into providing great experience. I love the door code concept which means you can check in whenever suits you.
Review 27:A welcome when I arrived. Fresh flowers in room. TV and Wifi. Comfortable bed and room. I wish I could have stayed longer. I hope to return for a pleasure stay
Review 28:Noisy plumbing, over use of laminated warning signs in ensuite (9 in our bathroom - one shouted at you from under the loo seat! We found this hilarious though.) Bathroom overdue a refit. Less than relaxed attitude to paying guests wanting to breakfast at their leisure. Better than our alternative which was a premier in though, we don't mind quirky!
Review 29:Beautiful tudor building, large room, breakfast was good but restricted to 8.30 only sitting on a Saturday so no lie in possible if you fancy a hot breakfast.
Review 30:Tomato ketchup on breakfast table was two years out of date.
Review 31:Value for money, I just needed a place to sleep near my exam centre and the price and location were ideal.
Review 32:The shower cubicle and lavatory in a walk in cupboard. Having to walk downstairs for milk to make coffee. Sash windows that won't stay open.
Review 33:The room size and the breakfast.
Review 34:I had booked the four poster bed. The ensuite bathroom was approx 4 footby 4 foot and I could touch both sides if I held my arms out. Had ashower, sanilav and small sink in this area. No good for a man. Couldnteven dry myself when I stepped out of shower. Garden is shared with anattached nursery and full of nursery toys. Left after two nights. Towelsvery hard and room quite dark. Staff very abrupt over telephone whencancelled rest of booking.
Review 35:Although we were made welcome by the host, the facilities were old and tired - shabby chic gone to the end of the scale. The toilet was an old mascerating type in a small cupboard arrangement made into a shower room, The sink was minute. The shower ( around base of tray was black mould) needed a good clean. There was mould in the jam offered to us at breakfast.
Review 36:Pretty garden.
Review 37:I phoned the B and B to ask if my daughter could join me for breakfast as she was picking me up. I was told no problem just to pay £3 which was very reasonable. While my daughter was eating her breakfast she found a hair on her plate which put her of the remainder of her breakfast, she discretely showed the hair and the answer was these things happen which I thought was not a very good response. other than coarsen a seen we paid the £3 and glad to have the opportunity to write this report
Review 38:Only negative was the towels were a little scratchy (hardly third world problems I know!).
Review 39:The place was very clean and friendly. It felt very homely and all decor complimented the theme of the property and added to its character. Breakfast was prompt and very good. Place was near to local shops, pub and library and only about 2 and a half miles from the town centre and easily accessible by bus.
Review 40:Bathroom was very small indeed and had a very noisy macerator (at least that's what we believed it to be) which cut in whenever any water was run.
Review 41:Clean and Spacious Bedroom, Very nice setting, easy parking.
Review 42:Disappointing cooked breakfast. Limited to 4 items, I chose sausages, mushrooms, fried egg and baked beans.Egg was nice. 2 small chipolata sausages (over-cooked), mushrooms rubbery and unpleasant (I suspect bought pre-sliced), baked beans watery and barely warm. As breakfast is ordered the night before, and served at a fixed time (determined by the owner) , I would have hoped it to have been properly prepared at the least. It was delivered as soon as I entered the room and before I had even sat down, with no communication or invitation to help myself to tea or coffee and gave me no chance to take see what else was on offer e.g. fruit juice, cereals, toast etc. Service was 'brusque' and impersonal. I would happily have paid a couple of pounds extra to have a decent cooked breakfast.
Review 43:Comfortable, clean and lovely building
Review 44:The breakfast was amazing, the bed was so comfortable and my room was very homely which helps overseas travelers like myself feel content in a new place.
Review 45:water pressure on the shower, hard towels
Review 46:Close to Chelmsford, clean, tidy room, nice modern touches, extras given like chocolate, water bottle. Breakfast ordering efficient and tasty. LOTS of choice over breakfast. Relaxed, make your self at home feel. Free, close by parking. I had a non-ensuite room but shower / toilet close by, clean. Would visit again.
Review 47:Tiny and noisy en-suite, creaky bed and had to collect milk for morning cup of tea which then went off. Cooked breakfast ordered night before was put on table whether we were there or not, butter was in a large hard slab and jam was mouldy. No fresh rolls just cold sliced bread with which you had to get your own toast, then get your own tea or coffee, not the quality stay expected of a £97 a night establishment.
Review 48:Quiet and fairly comfortable room
Review 49:Prime bedroom was huge but the bed was uncomfortable and the en suite bathroom tiny. We therefore mainly used the communal bathrooms which were not especially clean.
Review 50:Owner/manager very friendly and there is an informal feel to the place.
Review 51:The room was warm, clean, very comfortable and welcoming. The owner was extremely friendly and very helpful. Had little touches that added to the experience. Overall excellent stay.
Review 52:The Mattress was softer than I would have preferred.
Review 53:I liked the choice for Breakfast, cooked Tomato very fresh. I am also grateful that I was taken care of by Mr Peter Aspbury, during my stay at Rothmans B & B.
Review 54:The property is a lovely, interesting, old building. My room was huge and had everything I needed. Breakfast was lovely and so was the host. Location perfect for me too.
Review 55:No hot water in the shower. If you turn the shower from cold to warm the water would slow to a trickle. If you turned it to hot, the water would stop all together.
Review 56:Microwave in dining room to re-heat an evening meal. As a business traveller I just want a quick hot meal when I get in.
Review 57:not having to go to the loo in the middle of the night down the corridor, had to take a torch as couldnt see code on door.
Review 58:everything was just fine not a problem nice breakfast.
Review 59:Shower was a bit weak but sufficient. Was a bit cold when I arrived but other than that excellent
Review 60:Bed was excellent. Decor amazing. Clean. Good value for money
Review 61:Parking was limited for picking up my guest each day and the building is next to a day nursery which made parking slightly tricky in the morning. However, if you are staying for leisure this wouldn't be a problem
Review 62:The communication prior to my colleague's arrival was very efficient, I knew exactly how to get access to Rothman's as we would be arriving late on Sunday evening from Gatwick. My visitor was very well looked after and he was very pleased with the facilities. He was very impressed with the historic aspects of the building. He would stay again
Review 63:Only thing that could have made it more comfortable would be to have an ensuite bathroom, however they have a number of well maintained bathroom/shower rooms and spoilt for choice.
Review 64:A well maintained period Guest House, that is beautiful and full of character. Immaculately clean and was made to feel very welcome by Peter.
Review 65:Walking down a hallway to private bathroom (but heck, for the price it was acceptable). Also, hard to find the way in off the street, at night
Review 66:Lovely building & décor. Everything you could think of for breakfast. Very convenient key-code system for all entrance doors.
Review 67:For the sake of having to fill in this box I'm raking my brain to think of something negative. I can't. Top notch.
Review 68:From the welcome to the goodbye I can think of nothing that I didn't like, the property is lovely, very quaint and picturesque. I booked in a rush and given that I wasn't expecting much but instead I got the absolute opposite. The room was beautiful and the bed exceptionally comfortable, breakfast is served in a lovely little dining room and was delicious. Finding it was easy - especially with the excellent directions and help with taxi etc was much appreciated.
Review 69:If I was to be really picky it would be the door code on the bedroom. I would prefer to have a key and lock the door as not sure how often the codes are changed.
Review 70:There is off road parking free of charge, the location was very quiet and peaceful, the breakfast choices really good and the WI FI was quick and also free. Room clean, tidy and comfortable and there were nice little touches such the water and bar of chocolate. Peter the owner was pleasant but not intrusive
Review 71:Stayed in fabulous Four Poster Room, but ensuite is the tiniest I've ever seen, with extremely noisy plumbing. I was only staying 1 night, for a longer stay it would have been an issue.
Review 72:Beautiful old house, well cared for and maintained. Spotlessly clean. Key pad system on all doors so no chance of lost keys! Pre-ordered (via email!!) cooked breakfast was on the table on the dot of 8am, freshly cooked, wide variety of cereals, with porridge and brown/white bread/toast also available along with selection of teas and coffee. Very impressed that decaf was also on offer. Will revisit this little gem!!!
Review 73:Rely was lovely comfort home, you feel at home every thing is wonderful and kind of antic from the garden to the comfort bed to the beautiful furniture to the warm welcome of Mr. Peter.
Review 74:Excuse pun but a pea take of an en-suite - seen bigger cleaner's cupboards approx. size 3' x 3' to house quadrant shower, basin and saniflo wc across doorway - fortunately I was travelling alone as the romance of the 4 poster bed a laugh as to use loo you had one leg in bedroom and other tucked under basin - not good!!!
Review 75:Room was elegantly furnished with variety of oak and pine furniture including desk and chair - perfect!! I recommend on the basis that the 4 poster room is not available as a room across corridor I saw in morning met expectations
Review 76:Extremely small en-suite but realise that to have a larger one would ruin the wood panelling.
Review 77:Huge room and a very comfortable 4 poster bed. Cooked English breakfast was superb and the very helpful owner also supplied massive amounts of choice with regard to cereals and jams plus a filtered coffee machine. A fridge was also available for use outside of breakfast hours with fresh milk readily available. Very good and safe parking - we would readily return.
Review 78:Hot water pressure poor Tiny En Suite
Review 79:Friendly helpful staff Lovely dining room and facilities Beautiful Rooms Lovely gardens Flat screen TV Free wifi Lovely breakfast choices Lovely room facilities and personal touches.
Review 80:Lack of ensuite, so that sqeaky creaky doors I felt were disturbing others at 5 in the morning!
Review 81:Lovely house, crooked floors and walls. Informal breakfast. Engaging host.
Review 82:Peter is a friendly host - even putting our bicycles inside his house. His accomodation is beautiful; we were in the Georgian room and the breakfast he cooked was very tasty. If I ever come in the neighbourhood again I'll book my room at Rothmans.
Review 83:On returning after my two week cycle the absence of the owner. A numberon the front door to ring. No reply despite a few attempts. Came back aday a day early, no vacancies. Refused permission to camp in gardensdespite the gardens full of childrens play equipment. Indeed it is anursery play area for the nursery next DOOR.i had to cyclea further 8miles out to the highest point in essex to camp after already completing50 miles that day.
Review 84:The owners helpfullness and greeting the first time a spacious place.Upgraded to a larger room prior to my arrival
Review 85:Impersonal contacts from staff. Strange system of delivering preordered cooked breakfast to table at specified time, whether or not you were there.
Review 86:Very large TV
Review 87:My second arrival, I got in due to me having the key code. Confusion with the lady doing breakfast. Contact number of person in charge no reply on a few occasions. Breakfast table on departure day not set up. No breakfast order form or feedback form available to me. It just appeared a bit "Mary Celeste" at times with the boss man away for the weekend. It appeared that the cleaning person made a non appearance on Sunday. It then became a down grade on my second visit
Review 88:The location, The price Helpfullness from the proprietor Helpfullness from breakfast lady at a later time. The upgrade on my first visit. Overall more good about my visit's than bad
Review 89:Cluttered, mixed up furniture. Tired decor. Not even elbow room in the ensuite. Cooked Breakfast on the table before we got in the room or even had time to look at cereals etc.
Review 90:Large room Excellent cooked breakfast .
