Reviews for Hotel De L'Océan

Review 1:We had dinner at the restaurant and found it overpriced and not very tasty. The breakfast was completely overpriced; 8.50 Euros for coffee and bread with jam, and 13.90 for a very skimpy buffet with cold cuts and cheese. Eggs had be paid extra.

Review 2:The location is splendid. We had rooms with "ocean views," which gave us a partial view of the water. The hotel is located at a small square with lots of restaurants and bars, right across from the ocean. Staff was very friendly.

Review 3:Morning / day staff at reception. Very rude and always on a break during peak times. Had to go to the resto for assistance and they had no clue. Need a new woman at the front desk during the morning/daytime when customers need assistance

Review 4:Room size - had the family room

Review 5:Originally we were offered the tiny room between first and second floors. It is a shed on a patio, without any windows to open to get rid of the nasty smell in the room.

Review 6:The staff was extremely helpful.

Review 7:only had a hand held shower over bath-when we queried this we were advised that we had to choose if we wanted a shower when we booked!! nowhere on the site gave us that option!

Review 8:Eventhough a bit pricey - I would stay again as it is in a lovely location and very comfortable

Review 9:Decor of Hotel and Room very authentic with a lovely ambience as it has a whole nautic theme

Review 10:Asked twice by email for the nearest car park location (we knew the hotel didn't have parking). No answers received to emails. The hotel is stylishly decorated but the low lighting in the room made it feel a bit gloomy.

Review 11:Lovely location, friendly reception and very smart, clean hotel.

Review 12:Nothing, we had a great time and totally recommend this hotel!

Review 13:Fantastic location right by the sea Lovely rooms with very comfortable bed Great shower Good value for money

Review 14:Lighting in the bathroom was extremely dim - wifi was hit and miss and TV difficult to operate with no instructions.

Review 15:Really liked the "beach" theme and staff especially Jan were very friendly and helpful. Location was excellent for shopping, beach and Port d' Pecheurs.

Review 16:The shower tub was not nice to use, it was a small one to be seated inside. If you wanted to stand, it is difficult in that very small lower part of it. We were about to slip away every day!

Review 17:Excellent situation, sea view, near to restaurants, shops. beaches, and the Place Eugenie is very nice! We liked the style of the hotel, the decoration, and appreciated the woodpanelled floor without moquettes. The balcony was small but we spent a lot of time there admiring the views.

Review 18:We weren't convinced by the restaurant. We ate one dinner there. It was very slow and we felt rather neglected by the waiters. We didn't eat breakfast there but visited a local cafe instead.

Review 19:Super situation so close to the sea and the prom. Lovely unfussy decor in calm colours.

Review 20:Our room was tiny and could barely fit our luggage - we were tripping over it the entire time! Also the bed was not very comfortable

Review 21:The decor was very chic and the hotel has a very nice overall feel

Review 22:The price is defenetely too high for the hotel services: room is very small for two people, bathroom as well and moreover really old stuff. It is ok but they should charge less money for what they offer

Review 23:The position is really nice in the centre of the city, close to beautiful walks, ocean and shopping area.

Review 24:Price of breakfast quite high but no more expensive than anywhere else around. Could do with tea / coffee making facilities

Review 25:Central location, friendly staff

Review 26:Very dark corridors & stairwell. Dangerous for older people. For the price paid per night I feel breakfast should have been included.

Review 27:Hotel was in great position with lots of restaurants. Close to shops & beach. Room was very mod with nice interior. Comfy bed. Guy on reception always had our key waiting as he saw us approaching.

Review 28:The room is not big and the bathroom very small. While reception staff were very obliging, it is annoying to have to phone them to change the air-conditioning temperature or to switch it on/off. It is also a bit of a pain to have to logon to the WiFi every time you switch on your device.

Review 29:The room had a small balcony and a decent view of the sea. Recently renovated, the room was pleasant and had a very comfortable bed. The staff were very helpful.

Review 30:The room for 4 was a bit tight but worked very well for a short stay.

Review 31:Front desk staff were excellent. We had one problem with the drain in the shower and it was fixed within 5 minutes of us reporting it. We also asked for the room to be cooler as guests don't control the air and they made the change immediately. The "family room" was tight for 4 people but the hotel location was absolutely amazing and well worth the price. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will consider it in the future.

Review 32:breakfast a bit underwhelming and overpriced.

Review 33:Great location. Room bigger than other reviews suggested. Decor was attractive and gave the place character.

Review 34:We loved this hotel, it's location is superb, with seaviews, on a great little square with lots of restaurants and just a few minutes walk away from the tiny old port with a few really good restaurants. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the hotel is just lovely, great decor, lovely and clean. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to the area.

Review 35:It's expensive for what it is. We had a church view room which was perfectly nice but not with €140/night. The ruins are not sound proof; the toilet is too small to be able to exit comfortably, the bathroom has no natural light or bath... The decor is getting a bit dated and needs a good revamp. This hotel would be perfectly OK at a lower price range, but not really for what they're asking.

Review 36:The location is perfect, right on place Eugenie in the centre of Biarritz with the coast in walking distance. The staff go out of their way for you; very friendly. The express breakfast is a steal at €7. The hotel has a lot of charm.

Review 37:Beer in the restaurant at Euros 8.30 for a 500cc glass was a bit of a surprise when we got the bill. Room lighting, especially bathroom not bright enough.

Review 38:Excellent location, nice décor, free upgrade to a sea view room. Next to underground parking and central to shops and cliff top walks.

Review 39:One slight issue was the I think the noise of the a/c unit at night

Review 40:Recently spent 5 days in Biarritz loved the Basque country and this hotel really made our stay so enjoyable. Clean, cosy and staff could not be more helpful. I have a few dietary requirements and was treated so well will be back soon. Special word of thanks to reception staff who are so pleasant and helpful. Also the hotel is so central and convenient. The man in square playing harmonica while we sat over looking the square in our complimentary upgraded room with a balcony was a welcome bonus but maybe a few new tunes next time. One slight issue was the I think the noise of the a/c unit at night

Review 41:Dinner was a good deal but food no so great.

Review 42:The location is perfect, close to beach shops etc Good to have a bar & restaurant for a a short stay. Room was lovely, Separate toilet, bathroom etc all good. French windows to small balcony with space for small tale & 2 chairs. Restaurant staff charming & friendly.

Review 43:we arrived quite late on sunday about 20.30 and having been travelling all day were hungry but the restaurant was still open. we were told that we could order a meal. the food arrived quickly but the quality was poor. it had just been warmed up wasnt cooked properly. similarly our first breakfast was poor. we opted for the buffet [as opposed to continental] but the range of food on offer was lacking as items were not replenished and the staff were not helpful. However on the following days I have to say that at breakfast the the quality and range of food in the buffet was satisfactory as was the attentiveness of the staff. A pity about our first meal because of it we did not have another evening meal in the restaurant. I didnt like the very tiny lift [my wife is disabled] barely room for two people] but fortunately we were only on the first floor.

Review 44:the location off St eugenie square,a pedestrianised area, close to the sea front promontary midway between le grand plage and the cote de basques where scenery and the seas were spectacular. There were lovely walks along the sea front lots of places to sit and just watch the waves crashing onto the shore. It was a short and easy walk into the old town for its shops and restaurants etc.

Review 45:No shower curtains, shower head should have been higher up on wall. The safe should be bolted to the wall. Brighter lighting and cheaper coffee. Had a coughing neighbour who could be heard all night through the thin walls. Towels too thin and small.

Review 46:Staff friendly ,room clean, great location.

Review 47:No English language channel on TV - Small bottle of water in bar - €4.70!!

Review 48:Excellent location, close to beaches, shops etc. Pleasant staff, comfortable room. Breakfast available as served continental or self service buffet.

Review 49:Room small but balcony provided a sitting area. Not able to get reduction on car parking as car park office unattended. Note - from 1st Oct street parking free.

Review 50:Good location, no need for a car once you've arrived. We had a balcony with a side view of the beach - very pleasant in the evenings. Restaurant and bar very good.

Review 51:Very little hanging space in the room - only one tiny wardrobe in a room for 4 people. Cafe/restaurant drastically understaffed - we gave up waiting to be served twice and went elsewhere. Staffing at reception also patchy.

Review 52:Clean, stylish hotel in a great central location with easy access to the beach and shops. Our family room was spacious and comfortable with good bathroom. We were also able to use a storage room for large items. Parking at the adjacent secure underground car park was €37 for the week.

Review 53:Cost of a gin and tonic in the hotel bar was 8.50 euros!! Hotel also a little noisy - could hear people talking in next door room and also their snoring!!

Review 54:Great location for restaurants and beaches. Beaches nearby are beautiful. Staff very nice and food in the restaurant downstairs is really good.

Review 55:The hotel was spoilt by small things. Toiletries weren't renewed. The bath towels were too skimpy. The step up from the room to the balcony was potentially dangerous.

Review 56:The location is great. The room was comfortable, clean and surprisingly quiet thanks to the double glazing. The aircon worked well so no need to open windows at night. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Review 57:A bit dark and cola strophic in communal area and staircase. Shower leaked into Bathroom Overpriced and badly presented drinks in Bar downstairs

Review 58:Comfortable beds and linen , nicely decorated in beach theme. Friendly staff. Clean. Handy location

Review 59:Having to use a public car park is awkward but the staff suggested I pay a one week rate which was good value!

Review 60:Excellent location - on a square overlooking the ocean. I parked the car for four days and walked everywhere around the city, only using the car on the final day to drive to nearby locations. Staff spoke good English and were very eager to help with anything to make customer at ease.

Review 61:We had "Double classic room with a church view" and I was a little bit sad that it is turned out so small as well as the bath room was small too. The curchs bell starting to ring from 9:00 a.m. In the rest everything is perfect!

Review 62:Best down town location, very-very nice hotel and room design, really responsive hotel stuff.

Review 63:No shower curtain which meant that the bathroom floor ended up very wet.

Review 64:Hotel is in an excellent position & the rooms are comfortable. The staff were always happy to help with any requests. We will be happy to stay there again.

Review 65:The shower over bath did not have a high wall fixing. Had to hold shower in hand. Also the bathroom towels needed replacing, a little old and thin.

Review 66:Very nice staff. Room was good with nice sea view. Very clean with nice bed linen. Great location for restaurant and beach

Review 67:Nothing!!!

Review 68:Staff was so helpful, well versed in English and French. Beds andbedding were outstanding. Views from the balcony were spectacular. Wouldnot hesitate recommending de la ocean. The hotel is beautifully situatedfor easy walks to the beaches, Napoleon's Palace (now a hotel and a"must see"), the charming streets, the Casino...you name it!
