Reviews for The White Horse Inn

Review 1:Layout of shower/toilet facilities

Review 2:Location,quiet with friendly locals, landlord/lady.Picturesque village, cosy pub with open fires and nicely decorated for christmas. Freshly cooked breakfast at no extra cost.

Review 3:The shower pressure was low and the water was not very hot. The check-out time was a bit early.

Review 4:The room was a good size and it was easily accessible when returning late.

Review 5:We are pleased the pub was friendly as we spent much of our visit there due to the horrendous weather but we can't blame the landlord for that!

Review 6:The most friendly pub I've been to for a long time... staff and locals were very welcoming and inclusive. Great food, especially breakfast. The beer and wine were pretty good too!

Review 7:Only one minor criticism. The en-suite shower and shower room seemed to be designed for a tall man - you would get your hair washed whether you wanted it or not, the mirror was too high and the tap too low to fill a kettle.

Review 8:The proprietors were welcoming and accommodating. The rooms were comfortable and quiet, separate from the pub. The food was excellent.

Review 9:Nothing to dislike

Review 10:Had a brilliant weekend, Dave and Sarah are really nice, they made us very welcome, the food was really good, would highly recommend

Review 11:breakfast was between 7-8 which was early. the landlord said ok to arrive a little later but 7-9 would have been more comfortable for us as our normal working days mean we are up very early. asked for a quiet room. our room was at the side of the building facing the road. traffic was very heavy particularly the buses. from around 6 in the morning until 11 at night.

Review 12:the hosts were friendly and the bar in the evening with local customers was good.

Review 13:Lovely setting and location. Very nice homemade food on the menu and good portion sizes. Very nice friendly staff, who made us feel welcome and comfortable in our stay.

Review 14:The hotel was not as near Holmfirth as we led believe. This therefore incurred taxi costs we had not anticipated. We arrived back at 10.30pm and were refused as drink as we were advised bar was closed - despite the two staff embers sitting in bar. Also breakfast was between 7.00 - 8.00am with no flexibility. Totally no use to us. All in all very disappointing experience.

Review 15:Nice locality good parking comfortable clean room although bathroom and shower were very very small

Review 16:The food is amazing so tasty, well cooked, well presented and plenty of it. Well fed and water we had a wonderful sleep in comfortable beds with the sound of the stream to lull us to sleep

Review 17:Very friendly cheerful attentive and willing couple and an old building utilising all available space. Evening meals great value for money. Breakfast too early to tryan

Review 18:No comments whatsoever. I liked it all.

Review 19:Friendly, welcoming and helpful landlord and lady. Nice wholesome food. Lovely location, convenient for a brisk walk to Holmfirth or roaming around the hills.

Review 20:Room had no creature comforts; furniture was ancient (and not in a good way); window had blind but no curtains, which let light flood in from the early hours; bathroom was tiny, basic and shower didn't work very well; beds and duvets/pillows were thin and lumpy, and the TV didn't provide a single channel with an unpixellated picture. At £75 for the night (no breakfast) it seemed vastly overpriced for what was provided.

Review 21:Bar was nicely appointed, and staff friendly

Review 22:No complaints

Review 23:The staff were friendly the room was comfortable the breakfast was amazing. We went to a gig in the picturedrome plenty of taxis only £5 to get to the centre very friendly locals.

Review 24:I didn't like the fact that we went down to the pub at 1:30pm after settling into the room and I asked for food menus. The man behind the bar said that food had stopped being served now. We walked somewhere else for food. When we arrived back and went to our room we see that on the information on the back of our door that food is served 12pm-2pm. So the pub was very unhelpful

Review 25:I liked the bed and the breakfast

Review 26:The location was lovely, Dave and Sarah made you feel very at home, this is just a excellent place to stay , food..... What can you say ammmmmmmmazing and the rooms are very clean . Booked already for October 2015, a must place to stay.

Review 27:Bedroom requires updating. Curtain hanging from hook - nowhere to hang towels - only one small chair to sit on in room, Room needs repainting. No door separating shower area from bed ( only partly partitioned off ) Toilet room very cold & drafty.

Review 28:Good food served in the inn

Review 29:My only negative was that none of the rooms had baths and my shower was not very powerful, but I'm spoilt with my gorgeous big bath and power shower at home! It didn't bother me enough to spoil my stay. Just a personal preference

Review 30:The staff were amazing. So warm and welcoming. It was just like a home from home. Lovely fire place in the bar, great comforting food, banter from the locals in the bar and the most amazing breakfast!!

Review 31:The advert stated that the accommodation was in Holmfirth. I boked the accommodationbased on this fact as my stepdad was going to a music concert in Holmfirth Picture Drome. The accommodation was another bus ride from Holmfirth which was disappointing.

Review 32:Upon entering the white horse we were greeted with a warm welcome from the landlord. The food we had was freshly cooked, & not heated up in a microwave. The full English breakfast was outstanding. They both took the time to talk to us at long length and made our stay special. The landlord even gave me a book on the " Tour de France" when I mentioned I had watched the tour come through nearby Holmfirth! All in all an excellent visit, and we will definitely be back.

Review 33:Not within walking distance to holmfirth but only cost £5 for a taxi,.also bus stop.oitside the pub but we were advised it wud be cheaper to share a taxi

Review 34:Clean & comfortable room Landlord very friendly and helpful, nice area

Review 35:Unfortunately the bed collapsed at 2am as there was a screw missing in the construction of the frame and we spent the night on the floor. We might have received more concern from the staff and maybe even some recompense but there was no offer of either - which was rather surprising. If it had been my accommodation I would have been absolutely mortified.

Review 36:Excellent breakfast. Very good decoration and cleanliness. Lovely position. Opportunity to be able to stay just the one night.

Review 37:The only slight issue for us was that breakfast on a weekend was only served 8am-9am or there about's which is just earlier than we generally have it but we appreciate that it's a personal choice on our behalf.

Review 38:The facilities where great, David and the rest and of the team where so friendly and inviting and the Inn itself was homely with the open fire and the relaxed atmosphere. The bed room was delightful, so spacious and clean. I was surprised but very pleased that there was a hair-dryer because I'd forgot mine! There was facilities to make a hot drink before even heading down for breakfast. The food was exceptional and real value for money. We will 100% try and stay here again should we be visiting this area in the future!

Review 39:Unfortunately in the evening after 8 we were the only people in the pub,the staff made friendly chit chat however we retreated to our rooms. There was no WiFi which is stated in the booking information however with nothing else near by it made us feel more isolated. A good tip is to stock up on treats for the evening,if like us you get a little peckish later on there are no facilities to get anything.....overall this is a good place for a one night stay.

Review 40:The food was lovely, booked a table in the evening with a good variety to choose from, staff were very kind and helpful. The pub itself had recently received a facelift and I think the room had too.....I would have no problem staying here again, however I think one night is enough.

Review 41:The en-suite which was cramped. Lack of arm chair in bedroom TV reception poor.

Review 42:Friendly welcome. Excellent food Atmospheric with nice ambience Good dining room Convenient car park

Review 43:In particular, the young lady chef produced, in my opinion, 5* food throughout. Have stayed in 4.5* hotels, but did not get food of this quality ANYWHERE else

Review 44:Having to leave !!!!

Review 45:The staff and owners couldn't do enough for us. We had a bit of "drama" during our stay. The Landlord could not have been more helpful. We are truly grateful for the assistance given to me and my wife. The Regulars are really welcoming and good company, true Yorkshire hospitality !!!!!

Review 46:did not like to leave and come home

Review 47:very friendly landlord and wife , very good food well cooked and yorkshire size portions , a very helpful couple , room very good and facilities , very handy for holme firth and summer wine fans , you can imagine compo sat next to you having a pint 10/10

Review 48:Enjoyed every evening meal cooked to perfection [breakfast was taken down in Sid's Café as 7 - 8am was a bit early for us] Dave and Sarah were very friendly and accommodating and both waitresses were equally friendly, very proficient and professional. The White Horse is a basic no frills B&B, but very comfortable, more than adequate and we thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay. A perfect "last of the summer wine" experience!

Review 49:I was not made to feel particularly welcome, it seemed I was more of an inconvenience to the establishment than a paying customer to be welcomed, apparently the guests checking in the following day were more important so breakfast was '8:30am or nothing' The shower temperature was uncontrollable, shooting from hot to cold every few seconds. Although I cannot blame the b&b for this the car alarm that started at 4am did not make for a successful nights sleep.

Review 50:The room was pretty- although not the one I booked, I'm not sure whether the 'cozy room with exposed stone wall' exists but I certainly wasn't shown it and was put in a twin room with tiny single beds instead

Review 51:I did read in one review that the room lacked towel rails and our room number 5 has the space for them so Dave get your screwdriver out.

Review 52:Interesting setting especially if you like LotSW, excellent food the fish & chips were great, breakfast was splendid.champion couple even if Dave looks a bit dour at times he will make sure your stay is all it should be

Review 53:Came back after a wedding party about 11.30pm, wanted a shower. Shower did not work. Tried to call the staff, but with it not being a hotel there was no reception at that time of night. Had to wash 'army style' from the sink basin. Tried to negotiate a discount the next morning, but staff offered to reset the trip on the shower, and suggested we shower then – but not helpful for us as we were checking out that morning. In the grand scheme of things, these things cannot be helped, it is a small business and staff did their best to help, but in future I shall be booking the nearest Travelodge, even if it is considerably further away.

Review 54:Room was better than the website photos. Breakfast was excellent. Staff friendly.

Review 55:The bedroom was basic, but we new that before we went. So not a problem to us.

Review 56:The location, the staff, the food and the warm and friendly atmosphere. The bedroom was clean as was the bathroom. There is no pool, jacuzzi or gym so if you want that pay a lot more and go to a 5 star hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and the staff made us feel very welcome

Review 57:Breakfast and check out felt very early for a weekend (breakfast 8 - 9am & check out before 9:30am).
