Reviews for Glenthorne Guest House

Review 1:Beautiful setting, friendly, sociable, welcoming atmosphere. We had lots of good conversations with fellow guests. The evening meal we had was excellent.

Review 2:Breakfast was 8.15 to 8.45 and we were REQUIRED to be sociable with other travellers and elderly residents. It's also a retirement home. I am not a morning person and others I talked to felt the same.

Review 3:Beautiful location

Review 4:Loved the location, the Herdwicks on Allan Bank next door and the fantastic views. Lovely short walk to the village, and brilliant views of Helm Crag. very happy with the helpful staff and very kind and friendly atmosphere.

Review 5:Would have liked a proper shower not just a hand held spray in an unscreened bathtub. Particularly like porridge for breakfast but this didn't seem to be an option.

Review 6:Lovely peaceful feeling and plenty of room as well as excellent location. Easy to leave early as a help-yourself breakfast option. Liked the Meetings for Worship.

Review 7:Small cramped room in Bank House - not in main building. TV room also used for games -table tennis so TV inaudable

Review 8:Quiet location. Excellent breakfast.

Review 9:The prices were exorbitant charging per person rather than per room. The leaflet they had in reception talked about room rates but then gave prices per person. A llittle confusing and very misleading. It cost us over £300 for one night for 4 people including dinner. The meal was £21 per head and for this you could not even get an extra bread roll! However, the food generally was of a high standard. Because of the expense I will not be staying there again despite the beautiful setting.

Review 10:The location was beautiful, surrounded by green and sheep and hills.

Review 11:Just what I wanted, clean, quiet, comfy bed and a bath. Views weren't half bad either. Has everything you need, but not everything you want. If you want luxury this is not the place for you.

Review 12:Not applicable

Review 13:The friendly but very professional staff team and the fact that we were able to leave our luggage in the front hall whilst we spent a pleasant morning exploring Grasmere.

Review 14:Evening meals were provided, but you had to give 24 hrs notice - this was not advised at time of booking. It would have been handy to have been told! Breakfast didn't start until 8:15 - not ideal when travelling for business! Again not advised at booking stage. Male staff member on 'reception' was unhelpful and unwelcoming. Room very basic with no TV! Not worth the price.

Review 15:No tv and if you want a few drinks up in the village at night there's only one taxi for the whole place

Review 16:Room was large, bed comfortable, view amazing and staff

Review 17:Wouldn't recommend if you wanted a more luxury break.

Review 18:Had everything we needed for a weekend walking in the Lakes. Basic but comfortable room with a good bathroom and full breakfast all at very good price.

Review 19:Sharing a breakfast table with another solo traveller and a couple. I was preparing myself for a classical recital and didn't want conversation, but got it anyway.

Review 20:Wonderful view, peace and quiet, plenty of parking space, very thick walls in the outbuilding and therefore no noise from neighbouring rooms.

Review 21:We liked everything about Glenthorne, but being able to step over the style and straight onto the fell made it really special. No complaints at all and am looking forward to staying there again.

Review 22:Nothing. Wish I could have stayed longer
