Reviews for The Pegwell Bay Hotel
Review 1:Only real improvement would have been a deep clean of the room as it was rather dusty in places above wardrobe and down side curtains carpets etc nothing major probably just an oversight.
Review 2:Great stay hotel staff made it for us as they were friendly, approachable and nothing was a problem to sort out. Would return again just for the atmosphere and warm welcome felt at home.
Review 3:The beds ....my husband nearly fell out of bed because it was very rickety . And wanted a sea view .... But unless you were to hang out of window you wouldn't see the sea
Review 4:The staff was mostly nice except at breakfast then we felt we were trying to get out of paying
Review 5:The bathroom for Room 203 was extremely small, tatty and dirty. The shower grout and mastic was mouldy. I could scrape it off. It's inexcusable.
Review 6:This hotel has deteriorated substantially since we first started staying there 7 years ago.
Review 7:The room was clean but the kettle in the room was rusty.
Review 8:Comfortable room with a lot of space, polite staff, generous portions in the pub of the restaurant, clean room. I would definitely go back and recommend the hotel.
Review 9:Toilet was a little unclean. A very strong smell of urine. My partner cleaned the toilet herself and the smell went.
Review 10:Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Especially jo whom worked on reception. 10 out of 10 for customer relations.
Review 11:Booked for 2 children (aged 7 and 9) and 2 adults on Booking.com. They recommended a twin room and a double which i assumed would be linked as the kids are only 7 and 9. at £55 x2 for 1 night. When we checked in we were told that the rooms were not linked or even next to each other so our best option was to take the family room. This apparently also cost £110 so now we've got 1 room when i had paid for 2. Then because we had booked through Booking.com breakfast wasn't included for £110 and all 4 of us in essentially 1 room. The family room was way overpriced for what it is but clean and tidy.
Review 12:Shower was powerful
Review 13:Hotel staff seemed a bit nonplussed, but more than made up for by the happy and helpful staff in the bar!!
Review 14:Spectacular location, quietly nestled on the bay. The bar on the other side of the street gave us a great meal, and great local beer served by friendly staff.
Review 15:The hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were attentive and helpful and a pleasure to meet. Overall a very pleasant experience and one I would recommend
Review 16:The single beds in room 307 creaked loudly with the slightest movement and one was uncomfortably lumpy. A cold night with no extra blankets available in the room.
Review 17:Certainly location - the food was great and the sun patio off of the bar was brilliant a proper sun trap. The hotel was laid out very well and the pictures on walls very interesting.
Review 18:Bit chilly at one stage but climbed into bed and warm as toast
Review 19:I found the facilities of a good standard and wifi was free which is a bonus this day and age
Review 20:The bed was a little bit small as my partner is 6'4" his feet were hanging out the end and little too cramped
Review 21:Peacful and nicely positioned to use as a base.
Review 22:The pillows are dreadfully hard so much so they hurt! Ask for 2 room keys as the key operates the doors in corridor and the electricity in the room. So if one person wants to pop out the other is left in complete darkness, no tv and no means of getting out of the hotel.
Review 23:The staff are pleasant and helpful. The view was brilliant but the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. OK for an overnight stay. The hotel's restaurant is the pub across the road which does serve excellent pub grub!
Review 24:Couldn't really walk anywhere from the hotel but as we were only there for a night it didn't impact too much.
Review 25:Quiet, comfortable room looking out over Pegwell Bay. Nice meals available in pub directly across the road.
Review 26:As I am handicapped and have difficulty walking and parking at the hotel was also for the pub opposite (which served good meals), I found this a problem. There was plenty of parking but by the time I got back at the end of the day it was difficult to park close by. I did mention this but to no avail. For me the hotel was rather far away from the town.
Review 27:The room was a good size, very nice and comfortable, well decorated. I liked having the tea and coffee making facility in the room. The staff generally very helpfull.
Review 28:Really luxurious rooms, quaint with cliff top location and lifts that went underground to tunnels (under the road) that took you to beautiful cliff side terraces. Bit 'Olde Worlde'.
Review 29:Advertised free wi-fi required users to enter personal data in order to access, and on-line security was non-existent.
Review 30:Pleasant room, excellent shower and good breakfast. Staff very pleasant. Hotel cleanliness was of a high standard and there was ample free parking on-site..
Review 31:Only fault was with food in evening which was 'pub grub' and a bit stodgy.
Review 32:The location of the hotel and the comfort and space in the room. Lots of storage space for clothes etc. Bathroom excellent. All staff extremely genuinely friendly and helpful. Good atmosphere throughout.
Review 33:No negatives whatsoever.
Review 34:The whole experience was excellent, Staff, accomodation ,facilities, food(Breakfast),and location could not be faulted. We'll definitely return.
Review 35:Lack of communal facilities - for example a comfortable lounge/bar within the hotel itself. Not keen on going across the road to the pub for evening meals. That said, in the summer months the pub provides a fantastic terrace overlooking the bay.
Review 36:The location is fantastic! Not a 'luxury' hotel by any means but provides good basic accommodation at a very reasonable rate.
Review 37:The wedding part finished and was woken by loud drunken guests as they waited outside main entrance for taxis in the early hours. This is not the hotel's fought.
Review 38:Great location with nice views of the bay from our room. Everything in room was very clean and modern. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 39:Friendly staff good facility's just a short walk into centre of Margate plenty of space on car park. Public bar belonging to hotel could be reached by underground tunnel in bad weather with good choice menu for lunch or evening meals.
Review 40:Nothing to dislike. Just hope to be back soon..
Review 41:Splendid location, lovely view, lovely old charming building, big rooms, big comfy bathroom, very clean, lovely breakfast in the amazing Victorian ballroom-like restaurant with stunning seaside views. Excellent pub attached to the property. Very kind and helpful staff. Kind, polite, efficient cleaning ladies. Big car park. Nice footpath along coast nearby. Thanks for a very nice stay.
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:We always hate when we leave the hotel it's a little hideaway with lovely staff and the food in the hotel is great fantastic for a relaxing break
Review 44:No Wi fi. Not sure if it was the hotels fault though, and receptionist did apologise.
Review 45:Hotel really clean lovely white towels and bedding. Great position. Sea view room worth extra cost.
Review 46:Pity it's not on a public transport route, but you can't have everything!
Review 47:Good value Real Ale in bar, excellent venue for the reunion that I attended. Scenic sea view.
Review 48:Absolutely nothing...
Review 49:If I could give a higher score for the staff I would. They were so welcoming and charming, and nothing was too much! We will definitely be visiting again, in fact one of our friends have already booked to go on our recommendation! Yes its a three star, but frankly its 10 star for service.
Review 50:only one thing let this hotel down, the attention to detail ie dust along the dado rail in the room and behind the door. black mould in the bathroom tile grouting.
Review 51:very helpful staff from reception, pub /food to housekeeping .location of hotel, access to pub/restaurant {underground tunnel]!! very unique hotel indeed
Review 52:Rock like pillows, a doona that was like two ruge era pode together and a mattress that Was without any comfort. Run down hotel, lazy staff and floorboards that squeaked all night.
Review 53:Quiet location
Review 54:The drunks coming back; the room was rather warm so had to sleep with the window open; the bed was rather soft.
Review 55:The room was ok although the bed was a little too soft and dipped when sat on! It was pretty quiet until Sunday morning at 3am when a 'party' returned and banged every available door! The shower was amazing and the towels were lovely and fluffy
Review 56:This hotel has lost a little of its gloss in the few years since our last visit. The bed in our room appeared to be a recent replacement and while comfortable was clearly not as big as the one it replaced! A standard double is not what you expect in a modern hotel. Breakfast was also disappointing. Kippers were not available,so it was full English, My mushroom was tough and the bacon was decidedly salty. The refurbishment of the hotel's pub pub across the road has ruined what was an extremely attractive and friendly place.
Review 57:The location of the hotel cannot be faulted and we had an upgrade to a room with a sea view
Review 58:Very noisy, thin walls so could hear people talking. If someone was in the shower in another room or flushing the toilet it could be heard, this was going on even until about midnight!
Review 59:Location was nice
Review 60:I had a room with a view over the bay. I could lie in bed and watch the sun first rays hitting the cliffs and enjoy the evening sunsets. The room got wonderful afternoon sun and was lovely and warm.
Review 61:We were upgraded to a room with a sea view, which was fabulous. The pub across the road does great food and have now installed a glass fronted balcony that overlooks the sea
Review 62:Unfortunately the friendliness of the breakfast staff did not extend to the bar staff or the majority of the receptionist's. The only receptionist I got a smile from was the one on duty on the morning I checked out. As for the others I think a course on customer care is called for.
Review 63:I liked the location of the hotel, and I had a splendid view of the Bay from my window. I also found the girls who served breakfast were polite, courteous and on their game. They also served breakfast with a smile
Review 64:Friendly staff, ease of checking in and out, sea view and ample parking. Good location for exploring delights of Thanet, Ramsgate with its brilliant harbour, Broadstairs for a trip back to the 60s and Margate for harbour. Cafe culture everywhere in abundance. All very enjoyable!
Review 65:The briefness of our stay.
Review 66:A modern, warm, welcoming room with a Seaview. The receptionist won us over in the first 5 minutes by getting a Times paper from the restaurant. That set the standard for a brief but wonderful stay.
Review 67:Was a little too far from anything else.
Review 68:Was a gorgeous view and when the pub's improvements are finished I am sure it will be outstanding. Will have to go back to see.
Review 69:Room was so hot! Heating was up too high but once I figured out how to turn it down, it was fine.
Review 70:Location is stunning. A sea view room is a must! Staff so friendly and welcoming.
Review 71:We would have liked the power to stay connected in our room until check out time at 11:00. When we came back from breakfast at 10:15, it had already been switched off, which meant we went to the loo in the dark!
Review 72:Very impressed with the full vegetarian breakfast!
Review 73:Not really the hotel's fault but as a helpful tip I think they should install their own wifi rather than have the Cloud wifi. I tried to urgently make plane bookings and could not because the sites I needed were constantly being invaded by competing sites. In the end, I was lucky to be able to go to a friend's house to make the booking and also had to use my phone in the hotel to make international calls to the airline.
Review 74:Everything really, but particularly the breakfast. It is a long time since I found anywhere in the UK where you can order your breakfast to your liking and have it served at your table rather than bob about at a buffet.
Review 75:The room was smallish, no bath, view and the bed was small and pillows inadequate. The odour in the corridor was unpleasant and you had to feel for the light switches to turn on the lights.
Review 76:Friendly staff and a reminiscent location, with a great walk into Ramsgate town. The hairdryer was good ....
Review 77:Rooms a bit 'tired' and old fashioned. Lots of building work going on during our stay which did mar our visit. No local amenities other than pub.
Review 78:Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location for views.
Review 79:Nothing bad.
Review 80:Very clean modern rooms, some bigger than others. No restaurant, pub across road, and another next to it serve good gastro fare. Breakfast expensive so we didn't have it. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 81:Poor wifi (one of the reasons I booked the hotel) There were sewerage works being done on the road (but that's outside their control) Location (while good for sea views) wasn't that great.
Review 82:I was travelling with another friend of the same sex. My friend had minor mobility problems and, while the hotel has a lift, we were put in a family room which had a separate room away from the double bed which gave some privacy. Filling breakfast and the affiliated pub across the road did good (very generous) evening meals.
Review 83:Very clean room and bathroom, plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits and hot chocolate sachets with pretty cups and saucers in room on arrival. Nice for proprietor to escort me to my room.! Lovely view of cliffs from my room. Shame I couldn't stay for meals as had to leave early next morningbut would love to return and stay longer.
Review 84:On this occasion only the breakfast was overcooked through keeping heated rather than cooked fresh but we only arrived 5 minutes before the breakfast period ended.
Review 85:Staff are always helpful and the rooms comfortable with a lovely sea view. We have made numerous visits to the Pegwell Hotel and never been disappointed
Review 86:I found the actual hotel staff a little unfriendly when I had cause to complain that my room wouldn't pick up the free wifi. They seemed to want to go out of their way to prove it was in fact my laptop that was at fault. When I mentioned that my iPhone was struggling as well they didn't seem to take it very seriously, in fact they made a point of telling me that their equipment wasn't at fault This I found to be rather distasteful if I'm honest. If I go back there I would certainly ensure they gave me a room with working wifi.
Review 87:The staff in the adjoining pub were very friendly and food whilst simple was very well cooked and presented. the room was a decent size and the shower was very good. There was also free parking.
Review 88:Nothing everything was lovely, especially the food
Review 89:The hotel was lovely from the inside and outside, the staff were very friendly and food was excellent the room was lovely and clean and I would definitely go there again
Review 90:A few minor updates required to grouting and cold tap centre missing for executive room but all minor fixes
Review 91:Huge and comfy bed with a sea view, great value
Review 92:Breakfast fime copuld have been a bit longer on the Saturday.
Review 93:The hotel is in excellent condition and the room was comfortable and clean. I would particularly say that it was excellent value for money.
Review 94:WiFi log-in far too complex - it should be a simple code, as we've found around the world. Bed a bit soft.
Review 95:Location, room, breakfast, shower, staff, price
Review 96:Restaurant not at hotel, was across road at pub.. Weather really bad and near sea. There is a tunnel but we couldn't find it!
Review 97:Old building, but fresh and modern with fireplace features. Room big, warm and bed lovely and comfortable. Nice and peaceful too. Food good in pub too.
Review 98:personally found nothing to dislike keep the good work Up
Review 99:staff friendly room clean and public areas clean breakfast fantastic value for money overall 10 out of 10
Review 100:Overpriced scrambled egg & smoked salmon with a £2 surcharge definitely not worth the £2,very small compared to the full english or Ham & eggs.
Review 101:Beautiful sea view from our room. Dining room had a lovely balcony to sit out on and admire the view.
Review 102:Nothing . This hotel has staff it should be very proud of . excellent value
Review 103:The reception staff The housekeeping staff Alan the general manager Nothing was too much trouble , was greeted with warmth , kindness and friendliness, . Our room 209 was excellent beautifully clean , the bathroom was immaculate, very fluffy white towels.. WIFI was excellent
Review 104:Duvet on beds, used to sheets & blankets, which allow, more control over sleeping heat ! Too hot in bed with duvet ! No toilets in area of function room, & had to go to first floor, or bedroom !
Review 105:Atmosphere, helpful staff, very reasonable price, & excellent breakfast
Review 106:Next time we will book a King Size bed as my husband is 6'3" and the bed was a little too small. (not really a "didn't like"
Review 107:Friendly Staff, quirky hotel with a lovely pub attached.
Review 108:This was our first time to the Pegwell Bay Hotel, the staff were very helpful and the room and bathroom were spacious and clean, we would definitely stay here again
Review 109:Nothing.
Review 110:The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms were very clean and to a high standard. Location was perfect with our room overlooking the bay and only a 20 minute walk along the coast into town. We only stayed two nights but could definitely have stayed longer. Saturday night dinner at the Stanley Gray using the tunnel between the hotel and pub was very novel and saved us getting cold and wet. Sunday roast at The Belle Vue opposite was delicious and good value. We had a wander into Ramsgate town on Saturday evening which was buzzing as it was Halloween weekend. Lots of places to eat and drink. We headed home earlier than anticipated on Monday morning simply because the weather was awful but had a very good breakfast in the Belgian Cafe on the harbour. A very interesting, friendly and eclectic cafe. We loved Pegwell/Ramsgate and will definitely be back and staying in the Pegwell Bay Hotel again.
Review 111:The pub across the road was the hotel bar, which was a bit dated. We found the pub next door to be more our sort of pub and decided to eat there rather than the hotel's bar/restaurant.
Review 112:Hotel looks out over the bay. Large car park. Pleasant staff.
Review 113:Atmosphere, friendliness, beautiful views, food was amazing! room service was great. I have no complaints about our stay here it was fantastic all over, would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great getaway
Review 114:The restaurant is located in an adjacent pub. Easy to access through the connecting tunnel or just walk across the quiet road, but it is a pub with food served at tables as opposed to a restaurant. The food was good but our preferred choice had run out. Booking a table in advance is recommended as it might be difficult to be sure of table otherwise.
Review 115:Good location on the sea front with nice views. Very clean, well decorated, warm and comfortable. Plenty of car parking. Staff were helpful. We would stay again
Review 116:Some packets of cereal were 6 months out of date!
Review 117:We asked for a quiet room which we got. Very good breakfast. Lovely walk to Ramsgate along the cliff top. Staff friendly. Pub served good beer!
Review 118:I loved the location, sea views from our room and the breakfast room. I also enjoyed the walk into Ramsgate, along the cliffs. Both pubs across the road served good food and were worth checking out.
Review 119:WiFi was so slow it was unusable. Pub food was average
Review 120:Comforable hotel - no frills but had everything you needed. Staff were pleasant and receptive to requests.
Review 121:The breakfast room was very busy and we waited quite a while for our breakfast, a help yourself buffet for the cooked breakfast would have been better. We were not offered extra coffee and toast but perhaps this was because the staff were so busy.
Review 122:Staff were very polite and helpful, the room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The food served in the pub was excellent.
Review 123:Next time I will book a room with a sea view,
Review 124:we had no problems parking a very friendly welcome at reception, our room was airy and bright, comfortable bed. Each time we passed reception on our way out or back in someone always acknowledged us we have stayed in the Pegwell before and will again.
Review 125:The views across the bay, the polite attentive staff, the option of good quality meals in the pub opposite and the full English breakfasts in the morning
Review 126:Pub owned over the road by hotel very rude staff looks like it's about to fall down! Bed very uncomfortable! Windows let drafts through ! Cracked tiles in bathroom, generally shabby ! Don't bother !
Review 127:My wife and I travell quite a bit. I don't book the cheapest because I expect good quality but by paying a bit more you don't always get that. The Pegwell hotel was a very pleasant surprize, lovely place to stay and I would defiantly go back. The English breakfast was not to be missed, this was first class with very pleasent staff in excellent surroundings. Incidentally the cost was much less going through Booking.Com then going direct. Malcolm S from Norwich
Review 128:Location not easy to find.
Review 129:Architecture of the building, good parking, close proximity to two good eating establishments, plus general atmosphere of the hotel.
Review 130:Our satnav was unable to provide a route to the hotel due to road closures but a phone call to the hotel reception solved that problem. The view from the window of our room was stunning. We ate in the pub restaurant which is associated with but not in the same building as the hotel, very pleased indeed.
Review 131:We travelled down by train so we're dependant on public transport. We did not like the uphill walk to the bus stop.We ate at the Sir Stanley Grey but did not enjoy the huge portions.
Review 132:We were visiting Ramsgate in order to see family and the hotel was handy for that.We particularly liked the views and always found the staff extremely friendly and helpful.Only on one day did we have problems with Wi-Fi.
Review 133:The doorway to the bathroom was smaller than usual and easy to bump into handle on door. This is only meant to be a minor discomfort! The Wi-Fi connection was too long and complicated. Most places just have a password to get on to internet.
Review 134:The location and view were good. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Bathroom compact and clean. Staff very friendly. Breakfast room had lovely view with terrace.
