Reviews for Le Grand Large
Review 1:A great location with the beach, restaurants and shopping all within walking distance. A lovely neighbour, too, who offered us biscuits while we waited when we were locked out.
Review 2:cold and uninterested welcoming. she told us we could park the car outside on the Payant parking space and there is no need to pay for parking in the month of November. I was surprised and she insisted in the fact that parking on the street was for free from October on. Unfortunately when we got to the car the next morning , we did get a parking fine as her information was far from accurate . You need to pay for parking in the street during November. partly my fault as I should have doublececked myself but I trusted on her opinion.
Review 3:Superbly located away from the busier central areas of Biarritz but close to beautiful beaches and excellent bars and cafes. The views from the fifth floor over the sea are breathtaking! The staff were very obliging and allowed us to practice our French. They were also kind enough to rescue our interactions with their impeccable English. The free printing in the lobby is great for boarding passes and bus tickets, fortunate for us not to incur fees from Ryanair due to our lack of organisation.
Review 4:The wifi was frustrating and my key kept demagnitizing( I kept it separate )
Review 5:The front desk clerk was exceptional, we did not get her name, I feel bad about that but she was there every day and most helpful and friendly. We loved her. Our room was excellent
Review 6:the staff were at best miserable and at worst very rude, with one ray of sunshine being the restaurant manager, we had no towels or toilet paper in our room and when we asked for some it was a massive struggle to get someone to find some for us, eventually we managed to collect some from reception but will definitely not stay again
Review 7:the restaurant was very good but very little choice, there was nothing else we liked.
Review 8:Staff are freindly and the hotel is perfect for the beach/cafes/restaurants/shops. I would suggest that you take a higher floor (we took the 8th) to enjoy the views.
Review 9:the staff was very underwhelming. There was no internet in the room. They made no excuses - but this was not revealed in the booking description. They said there was WIFI. It is assumed if you have WIFI it is then conveinient in your room. So, for me it was a terrible hotel experience at this price. Also, I said I did not want the breakfast (a 15 E charge), but just wanted coffee. And they had the audacity to charge for it. What happened to coffee in the room then? They charge to park your car and added $10. I would never recommend this hotel based on the above.
Review 10:easy to get to things
Review 11:The Hills.
Review 12:Location is excellent as long as you are into hill climbing. View magnificent. Biarritz a lovely town, eating a bit expensive near the port but cheaper eateries on the back streets. Lots of surfing and water sports. Nice beaches.
Review 13:Our particular room had a very small separate toilet so we had to leave the door open when in use although we could close a door to the rest of the apartment.
Review 14:Perfect for a week's stay, our room was spacious with a useable balcony. The bed was especially comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. The breakfast was delightful with plenty of options. Free onsite laundry facilities was a bonus. Great pool.Exc
Review 15:WiFi unreliable in the room. It did work well in the reception areas.
Review 16:Location. Panoramic view of the beaches from a very comfortable studio apartment on the 7th floor. Close to the beach, bars and restaurants.
Review 17:They put us in a room across the road from the main hotel. It was horrendous. The traffic. No air con. The noise from the road. The complete lack of privacy. People could see right into our room from the road. Horror.
Review 18:Swimming pool. Excellent.
Review 19:a good pot of paint is needed as paintwork very tired!!! Also short of a kettle and toaster.
Review 20:The studio was very comfy and views exceptional. Will be back.
Review 21:WIFI did not work in the room. Breakfast was abysmal - cold, hard scrambled egg, coffee ran out, and nobody could be bothered to top it up. OK - we weren't exactly early for breakfast, but we were within the stated times.
Review 22:Position in the town was excellent, and the availability of private parking was a big plus.
Review 23:travelled as a group with my sister and her family, paid my local tax when checking out, but she still had to pay for me when she was checking out!!!!
Review 24:the location and the general facilities available in the room for the entire family
Review 25:The bar area in the hotel is a bit odd. In truth we would always go out rather than stay in, but service is sporadic on the few occasions we tried to get a drink in the day. Main reception staff were functional / friendly enough.
Review 26:This was our second stay at the hotel - key reasons for this was 1) the location and 2) nice pool area and table tennis for when you want a lazy couple of hours. We love Biarritz and the hotel is brilliantly located. Its about a 5 minute walk to either Les Halles market - for breakfast, lunch and great evening atmosphere, its a similar walk to the old port beach area which we preferred to the Grande Plage, a further walk away but no more than 10/15 mins The room is spacious enough (we were 2 adults - not tried it with +two children), lovely balcony with a great view, kitchenette is super handy and makes for a lovely start to the evening when you can get your wine out the fridge and enjoy the early evening sun on the balcony.
Review 27:Decor is a bit gaudy - yellow floral etc. Soap is horrendous.. Fluoro pink and smelt of bubble gum.
Review 28:The view and location. Also perfect for a family or those that like a wine and cheese before going out - self contained kitchen and the amazing market is close.
Review 29:More comfortable chairs on the balcony would have improved it.
Review 30:Views from the balcony that changed throughout the day and night. Being undisturbed for a few days.
Review 31:internet didn't work but we were in the annex.
Review 32:I lost my wedding rings and the staff found them and put them in the safe and emailed me .Cant Thank them enough.I kissed the lady that found them.
Review 33:It was noisy at night. Even when the windows were closed you could ear the noises from the street.
Review 34:Good location, friendly staff. Room was just fine and the view was great.
Review 35:The receptionist staff was very rude. We were waiting to be attended to and were completely ignored in favour of a hotel cleaner who pushed in front of us and the receptionist seemed to think this was okay??? Very poor given we were the only people in the queue. There was no acknowledgement of our presence, we must have been invisible.
Review 36:Location only
Review 37:This was a family hotel and not suitable for a mature couple or singles in their 30s and above. Probably, the most annoying thing for me is lack of an espresso machine and the early morning breakfast, which finishes at 10:00. I need to work, even on holiday, and good wifi, good coffee and a late breakfast are essential.
Review 38:The location was terrific and having parking was a plus.
Review 39:Not the most beautiful building in Biarritz but you are on the inside looking out...
Review 40:Brilliant location and private parking was a real plus on a very busy Friday in August. Great set up for beach holidays - washing facilities and kitchenette.
Review 41:The hotel restaurant was not a good experience. We were given a table by the window with blazing sun directly on us, and no curtains or shades. When we ask to sit at another table not in the direct sun, we were told it was not possible but the room at least 60% of tables free which remained unused the whole time we were there. We did not appreciate the response of the restaurant manager and only stayed because we were too tired after a 1200 km journey by car. The food was average also.
Review 42:We liked the view from the room, the room and the staff in the reception were very friendly and professional.
Review 43:Staff was helpful but unfriendly. Wifi connection was terrible. Place was outdated and plumbing was clogged. This was way too expensive for what we got.
Review 44:Location
Review 45:Terrible smell in bathroom considering it was 50pounds per night. What was very disappointing was that there was no option to shower or change after 6pm! I could pay for a room until 6pm but then nothing after. So I had to pay and take my stuff to shower at the beach which didn't work so had to walk to the next one. No shampoo in room. Very basic for cost
Review 46:Most staff were very helpful ;) Giovanni was friendly at breakfast :) Location great for beach, shops and bank.
Review 47:The pool area could have been in a little bit better condition. There was quite much traffic on the road and therefore some noise during night. No air conditioning.
Review 48:Great sea view. It was very nice to have a pool for the kids.
Review 49:The wifi was quite slow and did not work all the time.
Review 50:Very nice hotel, situated fine in the centre, close to everything. Comfortable, nice rooms with balconys. The swimming pool area is quite small but adequate. Great view.
Review 51:Quite expensive property, breakfast was not included. WIFI was very poor in rooms so had to go to reception area to use.
Review 52:Comfy, great views of the ocean.
Review 53:Breakfast not worth paying for. Well stocked Carrefour express nearby to buy breakfast items
Review 54:Well located apartment. Clean. Kitchenette well equipped. Good supermarket nearby.
Review 55:The reception staff were unfriendly and dismissive. Couldn't get the wifi to work. The room itself was a bit cramped.
Review 56:Location, pool and view from the balcony.
Review 57:Poor wifi and would have been nice with a bit more personal attention from reception staff.
Review 58:Good layout of room with good self catering facilities. Staff in kids club and pool very friendly.
Review 59:two of the three receptionists were very grumpy. Our first morning we asked not to be disturbed as we had cycled 130km that day and were shattered. on three occasions withing 40 minuetes the same cleaner tried to come in. at one point ran away round the corner when i saw her in our room. another time let herself in when she saw my wife leave obviously thinking the room empty. I was really unhappy about that!
Review 60:storage for bikes, room was fantastic clean and well resourced. hotel was clean and well staffed. brillaint to be forenrghs with free wifi, godsend
Review 61:Nothing to comment on.
Review 62:Well appointed accommodation with excellent sea views and a reasonably priced restaurant. Staff very helpful and friendly. Hotel close to town centre.
Review 63:You had to log on to the wi-fi many times....
Review 64:Nice staff, so helpful. Beautiful town av exillent wiew over the sea. We had everyting we needed in the apartment. Launduryroom with cheap machines. Heated pool. Good parking.
Review 65:Pool was old and dirty. Balcony sun shield didn't work. Steep walk back from beach.
Review 66:Amazing view of the coastline and ocean! Very comfortable and quiet. great balcony. Would recommend upper floor on ocean side.
Review 67:This hotel is value for money and it's a shame that every time we have stayed here the bar is never open. For such a lovely hotel we didn't feel as though this place was being used to its full potential. No entertainment, breakfast very poor. The hotel is prime location and there didn't seem to be any ambience or warmth.
Review 68:The Location, Views and comfortable beds. Staff very helpful and polite.
Review 69:Where to begin? Was it that the staff couldn't help at all with any sort of information and instead advocated walking to the tourism office for even basic questions? Was it that upon asking for another towel, they said "We don't have any" No. I'd say it was the non-air conditioned room, which wouldn't be an issue if windows could be opened at night. Sadly the room next to the largest all-night flood light facing the street below, so opening the window would result in it being daytime at night. SO bright. The rest of the place needs a huge amount of work. Dingy hallways that weren't lit, a kitchen with amenities, (Fridge, stove) etc...but no glasses, plates etc. And yes there is a pool, but it hasn't seen a bit of work/beautification clearly in years.
Review 70:The views here of the sea were quite nice.
Review 71:We arrived and couldnt check in to our room. We were told a 16:00 check in is normal so we could leave our bags and come back. We had to stay in our motorcycle gear in the peak sun...
Review 72:Rudest receptionist I have ever met ( dark hair) was no help what so ever and so ignorant. She has really turned me off ever returning to the hotel. Also the wifi is very very poor.
Review 73:Nice beds, nice view from balcony nice pool area
Review 74:Nothing to dislike
Review 75:Spacious room with bunk bed (2 teens) and a large bed for us adults. Well equipped kitchenette. Good location. And FANTASTIC VIEW!!!
Review 76:Nothing
Review 77:Helpful welcoming staff. Balcony with great view. Spacious room. Good proximity to centre of town & beaches. Shops, bars & restaurants within easy reach.
Review 78:WiFi connection is poor.
Review 79:Tidy, clean, excellent view from the room of the city and coastline, very central, decent pool, table tennis table was welcome on the rainy days.
Review 80:Staff had poor English despite saying they spoke our language. Also weren't very good to tell us of local invents/ areas of interest
Review 81:pool and sea view
Review 82:Breakfast was not included and frankly we only ate it once as it was not worth the cost. The breakfast area had a summer camp feel. Staff on that morning were very grumpy. The pool which is heated was nice but the maintenance needed doing. In addition it seemed the hotel allowed locals to use the pool as a group of young guys came in who had their own towels and did not appear to be staying.
Review 83:The hotel has great views from the higher floors. The rooms are reasonable in size though not as generous as the photos seem to indicate. The decor is bright. Within walking distance of attractions.
Review 84:Certain Staff a bit abrupt
Review 85:Weather not great but Biarritz is marvellous Chez Albert a great restaurant by the old port Blue Cargo also top place for a lazy lunch by the sea
Review 86:If you want to have wifi in two appliances, you need to ask at the reception for a second code.
Review 87:The hotel is near the beach and the city center. Try Bar Jean - best seafood in the city.
Review 88:Not a thing!
Review 89:When had to cut short my stay, due to an illness at home they were fully accommodating and charged only for the five instead of nine days booked..you wouldn't get that from Ryanair!!
Review 90:The only down side for us was the light house beam flashing all night, made getting to sleep difficult.
Review 91:The location and room view was superb. Big plus for this area was the hotels own car park, no on street parking around the area.
Review 92:Some of the furniture in the lounge area was starting to look tatty.
Review 93:Good location, good sea views, close to supermarket and many restaurants. Very helpful staff.
Review 94:bar was shut the whole time we were there would have liked a kettle in the room not enough plug points
Review 95:location - close to bars, cafes and the sea view from 8th floor balcony great big comfortable bed helpful reception staff
Review 96:The fire bell went off so we all went downstairs but the staff did not advise us or seem to realise that we thought it was a fire drill. Very poor organisation. The receptionists were always on the phone and rather offhand. They didn't make me feel like a guest, more of an incidental inconvenience.
Review 97:The view over the ocean - spectacular sunsets. The room gave us all we needed - being able to sit on the balcony to admire the view was lovely.
Review 98:Reception staff rude and not helpful. Restaurant not good value for money and waiter not particularly helpful. Staff seemed to find guests a bit of a nuisance really.
Review 99:Room was great as was the location and the view.
Review 100:The pool wasn't cleaned, it was fairly warm whilst there, however there was no air conditioning facilities or fans, when the door was open the noise of the sea was very loud due to it being the Atlantic.
Review 101:The view was stunning, the room was a good size family room, clean and comfortable. Perfect location to stay and everything in easy walking distance.
Review 102:At night sometimes students etc would camp in their cars in the car park in front of the Hotel. They would depart early in the morning and car engines and slamming car doors would wake me. As no bathrooms provided in car park another problem was created!
Review 103:Laundry facilities were a bonus for us on a 4 week tour. The pool was also a bonus.
Review 104:We stayed there 2 times for 1-1 night, it was excellent, the apartment is as nice and clean as at the photos. Spacious and comfortable for a family. We got a room at the 7th floor with beautiful oceanview. Ask for a room overlooking the Phare of Biarritz and at an upper floor. Not all rooms on the other side of the building have ocean view.
Review 105:wifi could be a little better, but did not matter that much.
Review 106:Great room (813) with fantastic views over the town & bay, sun-rise from the balcony just a bonus. Staff were all so friendly & very helpful, at the last moment we wanted to stay an additional evening, and posed no problem whatsoever. Will be staying at this hotel again next year.
Review 107:No wash hand basin in the loo! Pool a bit grubby
Review 108:Helpful reception staff Great views Bright cheerful room Well equipped kitchen area Ideal with children
Review 109:There is no air condition in the room (would be useful at summer time, but not actual in fall, spring and winter). Once we asked for additional towels. And staff promised to bring it "later". "Later" never came.
Review 110:Location of the hotel is perfect. Good design and good furniture. We stayed in the room at 7 floor with ocean view. Car parking with good price.
Review 111:The hotel was a bit pricey. The hotel is located "up hill" - in case you are travelling in/with a wheel chair, with small children or have trouble walking.
Review 112:We had own "tea kitchen", a double bed, a bunk bed with two beds and a couch. There was a "sea feeling" in the room and a nice view over the Atlantic Sea.
Review 113:Situated on a busy road with noisy motorbikes and scooters riding past all night long. No air conditioning. No kettle in room.
Review 114:Location, a few minutes walk from the beach and restaurants. Swimming pool.
Review 115:Ideally a room on a higher floor for better sea views and to minimise noise levels particularly early morning rubbish collections
Review 116:Location near Port Vieux area. Very convenient for shops (incl boulangerie and supermarket), beaches and restaurants. Apt/Hotel type arrangement ensures you can both 'do your own thing' whilst also having room service for towel changes etc.
Review 117:Pool - really needs a thorough scrub. There was moss growing in the grouting. Very unhygienic. Also couldn't use the kids pool as it wasn't working.
Review 118:Location - close to everything. Apartment - great view overlooking the ocean. Balcony with large sliding doors.
Review 119:Internet not available in room were told by reception that the reason was too many users only to find out before we left by another clerk that it was only in lobby. Reception not very helpful. No central air had to leave windows opened and it was very noisy.
Review 120:Location. Easy access and parking.
Review 121:Failed to get water to boil on hob in kitchen area! However we would rather eat out so not a problem.
Review 122:Room on 6th floor with balcony and stunning views out to sea. Quite spacious. Easy walk into centre with some excellent restaurants nearby. Lovely swimming pool. Reasonably priced on site parking
Review 123:The breakfast which we paid £11.00 euros each for was very disappointing, wouldn't bother again. and the bathroom/toilet were very pokey.
Review 124:The loction was fantastic, Beds were really comfortable. As a stopover I would recommend this hotel and the receptionist was very helpful.
Review 125:I liked everything
Review 126:We stayed in the apart-hotel during a week in the beginning of September 2014. It was a wonderful time! The hotel is very proper, we lived in the flat on the 7th floor (701) with the view to the lighthouse and the city centre. The location is perfect: 5 minutes to the old port beach and 10 to the Grand Plage. A supermarket Carrefour and the city market is in 3 minutes. Free wi fi, a warm swimming pool and the everyday cleaning is a pleasant bonus during the staying. So I do recommend that hotel to my friends.
Review 127:The pool area was a bit scruffy and in need of a good clean up.
Review 128:The independence of having a studio rather than just a hotel room was great. And it was lovely to have a pool too. We liked the resident cat.
Review 129:The balcony had no shelter (no roof as on 8th floor). Balcony table was very scruffy. No kettle. No draining facilities for dishes.
Review 130:The view, The position, The pool, the comfortable reception area, the staff.
Review 131:The loo is separate from the bathroom - which is good, but doesn't have a sink - which is not so good. Maybe they could just fit in one of those little sinks to improve?
Review 132:We were given a very good sized and comfortable studio on the 8th floor - with a balcony with a fantastic sea view. There were various sliding shutters, doors and black out curtains to provide shade when needed. The beds were very comfortable and soft soft towels were provided. The staff were friendly. The kitchen was adequately equipped - including tea towel, sponge and washing up liquid - though we did no major cooking. The staff were helpful and the lobby PC much appreciated by my son. Biarritz isn't cheap but this felt like good value considering the wonderful view. There is limited free parking and none when we arrived late afternoon - but you can pay for underground parking.
Review 133:the place requires a serious update (the reception area being done, it is still not enough). pool needs a proper clean, rooms need fresh paint and update in decor.
Review 134:location. the residence has got all the basics needed for a stay. minimum comfort, but central and stunning views.
Review 135:wi-fi doesn't work in the room
Review 136:excellent location (close to the beach, key walking areas, restaurants, easy accessible by car), parking, friendly staff, spacious room
Review 137:First floor apartments are very noisy. No air con. Don't go into apartments in second building as right on r Busy road. Thankfully they moved us to another flat in main bldg. but also noisy.
Review 138:Comfy beds. Location.
Review 139:The cat wandering around the breakfast room, no kettle or toaster
Review 140:Location was fab, we stayed in room 25, view was lovely.underground garage was a bonus
Review 141:The view, the room had the atmosphere of a little cottage by the sea, great location.
Review 142:staff at breakfast not nice and not helpful
Review 143:room with kitchenette
