Reviews for Channels Lodge

Review 1:Only downside of cooked breakfast is that it was all fried rather than grilled

Review 2:Nice bedroom Nice bathroom with walk in shower with daisy head shower TV had sky sports which was a pleasant surprise as can't recall it being advertised Good breakfast with nice quality labels and products

Review 3:Fantastic facility with great 'oldy worldy' character. Evening meal and breakfast in the main club house was very good and the rooms were excellent. Highly recommended.

Review 4:I was not overally keen on my Whitebait starter, however, this was just a preference to my taste.

Review 5:The room was excellent; extremely comfy and romantic. The food was also outstanding- especially breakfast.

Review 6:Had to wait for table to be ready but that due to Christmas party bookings. Alternative arrangements were made for us which was good.

Review 7:Accommodation - room was excellently furnished and equipped

Review 8:Getting someone's attention to get a table in the restaurant was a challenge. The golfers definitely got preference.

Review 9:Very luxurious room with a lovely roll top bath. Sky hd in the room too. Can't fault it.

Review 10:Not the easiest place to find (even with sat nav)

Review 11:Friendly staff, Great room with lots of character and charm good menu choice and excellent food.

Review 12:No telephone in room No shower non slip mat provided.

Review 13:Everything. The friendliness of all staff. The quietness of the location. The breakfast and service .

Review 14:I thought I was booked in the main lodge but was in the courtyard apartments that had a shower rather than a bath. But it was a great shower!.

Review 15:I arrived very late and the staff made sure I found my room. The huge soft bed and quiet room were much needed..

Review 16:As a couple on our wedding day, we arrived past midnight. Collection of the keys was fine but there was no signage to our suite. I was lucky to find some helpful staff as they were going home, who helped us find our room.

Review 17:The room, location, facilities, service, breakfast was fantastic. Completed our wedding day/night.

Review 18:Internet access in the bedroom was not available - only use it in the main clubroom. The coded door access also did not work so in agrrement with the neighbour we hooked the door open as could not be certain would gain access to bedroom late in the evening.

Review 19:Accommodation and staff were to high standard and was very comfortable. The location near to Broomfield was good and ideal for family reunion.

Review 20:Creaky floors and paper-thin walls allowed too much noise from other rooms. Manual steam heaters were difficult to adjust to a consistently comfortable temperature. Clogged shower drain caused near overflow of water.

Review 21:Remote country location, surrounded by a golf course made for a pleasant outdoor experience. Restaurant staff were outstanding. Food was better than average

Review 22:Not applicable - it's great!!!

Review 23:Everything - I love this hotel, it's a perfect location, the rooms are wonderful, staff are great and I feel extremely comfortable staying here and would recommend to all.

Review 24:I did have an experience with the room I stayed in due to my height, however this was rectified after I has a long chat with the manager - thumbs up for the response after I had an initial windge.

Review 25:just a bit too pricey otherwise we would go more often.we are going again in october

Review 26:good ,comfortable rooms opening out onto grass and historical buildings, lovely for our pet labrador , just enough peace and quiet and facilities .

Review 27:Quality of rooms and setting very good. I have been using channels for some ten years and although I don't get the chance to stay very often I always enjoy it and recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

Review 28:Accommodated me in the Ash room which is an attic conversion and not practical for my needs, far too small and the steps are verging on dangerous.

Review 29:Room wi-fi was excellent, not so in the bar area, Sky tv channel choice. Excellent customer service on arrival and in the bar / restaurant. Food was very good.

Review 30:The room was a little too small. The Lodge was a little too far from were we were celebrating with family. Was a little exspensive for one night.

Review 31:The bed was large and very comfy. The staff were polite. The cat was very welcoming.

Review 32:The 'Fresh Milk' clearly had not been checked for a number of days and had turned to yogurt! There was a small piece of old biscuit stuck to the seat under the dresser There was no backed chair to sit on

Review 33:the booking.com price was £92.50 but I did not realise that was for one person, the actual cost for 2 people sharing a double room was £127 and that was with a discount they gave us due to the misunderstanding. so that was bit of a shock.

Review 34:Facilities fantastic, did not stay for breakfast had to leave at 5am.

Review 35:The wifi was not suitable for business and had a very weak signal in my room. Not usable!

Review 36:Pretty much everything! I will return for a golfing trip next time.

Review 37:The Wi-Fi wasn't working, but hey-ho. As we are BT customers we could connect to the local BT with FON connection anyway.

Review 38:We stayed here on our wedding night in 2013 and decided to return for Easter weekend. We booked a room in the lodge but were told that, as the only room left was in the eves of the property, we had been allocated Channels Cottage - exclusively. The cottage is very well designed with all the mod cons including sky TV etc. The bed is huge and very comfy and the kitchen has everything you need for a weekend tucked away in the countryside.

Review 39:The service at breakfast was slow, possibly because a party of 14 were being served. The toast was not fresh and the mushrooms were shriveled and lacked seasoning. Fresh fruit would have been appreciated.

Review 40:The room was superb and the surroundings were gorgeous. The bathroom was fantastic. A comfortable chair would have been nice. The TV was difficult to understand though instructions had been left for us to follow.

Review 41:We were a little disappointed that our room wasn't one with a roll top bath & that breakfast finished so early. The bed was so comfy we couldn't drag ourselves away & unfortunately missed it.

Review 42:The room was immaculate with lots of reasonably priced refreshments. The bed was huge & SO comfy! Such a peaceful & tranquil location. We will be back!

Review 43:Location a bit tricky to find due to hug amount of road building in Chelmsford - but still worth it.

Review 44:Great value, without compromise on cleanliness & comfort!

Review 45:Set up and service at breakfast, shame you have to go up to the buffet every time you wanted a refill of tea or coffee....had to ask for everything, although food was very good.

Review 46:comfort and value for money, very pretty setting

Review 47:If you arrive after the reception has closed it can be a bit disconcerting having to phone and find your own key and room. Lack of room service (I travel alone for business and never chose to dine alone in a hotel restaurant). There is a fridge in the rooms with snacks to purchase (chocolate, crisps, drinks and the likes).

Review 48:I've stayed here twice now and the rooms are of so gorgeous and finished to such a high standard. The bed and pillows are as comfortable as I have ever slept on. The bathrooms are very high spec. The place is spotlessly clean and the staff very helpful. This is the only place I ever stay that does not do room service - an absolute must for me - and that is down to how stunning the rooms are.

Review 49:The room was excellent and located in beautiful surroundings. The breakfasts were varied and delicious setting us up for the day. Their response to a small problem on arrival was just superb and we will be more than happy to return in future.

Review 50:Need a towel for your hair not just a bath towel and free water in the rooms. Don't like paying for water.

Review 51:Very comfortable and of high quality. All facilities you could need in close proximity. Very peaceful

Review 52:That we were not informed when the restaurant was not available for an evening meal. Had no problem that you had a function on Saturday evening or that the restaurant was closed on Sunday evening but it would have been helpful if we were made more aware. Otherwise we were very happy.

Review 53:A beautiful room very quiet warm and comfortable , fantastic bed and great shower. The grounds were lovely the staff made us feel very special , we can't wait to book again

Review 54:Not welcoming. Never saw any staff to help us. No one to call. Cold breakfast. Tiny bathroom in a "suite". Very dissapointed as I was asked if it was a special occation yet nothing special to report.

Review 55:the bed was comfy

Review 56:On both times we have stayed have we seem to be having trouble with the TV. It doesn't turn on and off as it says on the instructions and had to leave it on all the time on both occasions. Our room was right above someone else so all night and morning all you could hear was stomping footsteps and the toilet flush everytime. The room was right outside the main reception so at half 6 we were woken up by loud voices and heels.

Review 57:Room was clean and a good size. Very nice decoration. Black out blinds/curtains.

Review 58:There is nothing to not like.

Review 59:The restaurant was superb. One of the best meals we have ever had and very good value for money. Staff incredibly pleasing and helpful.

Review 60:The Lodge is slightly out the way which is pretty much ideal, bar from accessing other restaurants etc.

Review 61:We stayed here for my birthday and it was perfect. Not too far away from where we live but the surroundings and peacefulness of the Lodge and grounds made us feel like we could have been anywhere. We loved how independent we could be and didn't need the support of staff nearly the whole time as we had everything we needed. The staff we did encounter were extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was amazing, with heated flooring which was ideal in this weather and the facilities were second to none. Breakfast was lovely aNd ordering from a menu ensured our food was cooked fresh and to our liking. We look forward to coming back.

Review 62:Poor signage to venue. No-one there to book me in. If I didn't have a charged phone I'd never have got in. Very bad first impression and annoying.

Review 63:Very stylish. Outstanding room

Review 64:very uneven floors affected my wife's meniers which made her dizzy throughout the stay. Did not like having to leave hotel for breakfast.

Review 65:Comfortable, clean and spacious.

Review 66:The fridge in my room should have automatically turned off at 9pm (according to the sign in the room) but didn't meaning that I had to turn it off in order to get any sleep. The receptionist made a note of this, apologised and said she'd look into it. Not a huge problem.

Review 67:The hotel itself (rooms and reception) is fantastic, very well finished and attractive. Food is served in the pub in the same location and is excellent and also very good value. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Review 68:As I was on business the problems they were experiencing on Wi-Fi fixed by the last day of a 5 night stay

Review 69:Excellent attitude of the staff from Manager to cleaning and bar staff. Food good ambiance very good

Review 70:That I couldn't stay any longer! ;)

Review 71:All the staff were so helpful to my mum who has Parkinson's, even the golf club made us sandwiches after they had closed,I would definitely stay again :)

Review 72:could have had a nice rug on the floor by the bed as there were no slippers provided.

Review 73:loved the room. nice quality decor. especially liked the fresh milk for tea very nice and quiet. dinner and breakfast were cooked well and provided a good choice.

Review 74:I'm not the tallest person, but the A-Frame beams in the Ash suite which I didn't know about initially, were very low...

Review 75:Quiet and rural location

Review 76:Looked for something for a one night stay for an Anniversary celebration but not too far to travel. Channels was a perfect fit. Lovely, quiet surroundings, comfortable room, restaurant only a short walk away. Not quite fine dining as they are trying to cater for relaxed pub menu and restaurant in one but perfectly good. Staff very friendly.

Review 77:I can't say there was anything to dislike about this place...

Review 78:Everything. Absolutely everything has been well thought out and executed, I would love to go back. Relaxing, Quiet, comfy bed, stunning HUGE bathroom, enormous room, lots and lots of storage space, fresh milk in the mini fridge along with alcohol and chocolates.. bonus... Thank you x.

Review 79:Everything was perfect only fault were the pilliows on the bed didn't suit me but everyone's different! Would definitely stay again and highly recommend!

Review 80:I visited in early autumn and the weather was beautiful but there is a short but exposed walk to the club house for breakfast (worth the walk). That said, they did provide an umbrella (golf of course ;-).

Review 81:The large high ceilinged room with exposed timber features and floor to ceiling windows, comfortable bed, seating and working area is topped off with real coffee making facilities and all very high quality. To find a room of this quality and character would be rare in any hotel at any price. It was a great breakfast making me disappointed that I didn't arrive in time to sample dinner

Review 82:Nothing really. The only problem was finding the place which is not Channels Lodge's fault but the people who have cut the access road in half to build a new hosing estate. Satnavs are well known for getting things wrong!

Review 83:Everything, including Biscuit the cat, also very friendly.

Review 84:Nothing to dislike

Review 85:Beautiful quiet, clean, spacious, comfortable suit above the club house with its own parking space. Great ambiance about the place and food was not bad either. Lovely happy staff.

Review 86:One very small detail and more of a suggestion than a complaint. Late arrivers are given clear instructions how to get in etc which is great, although some directions/simple map to find your room would be helpful, especially in the dark if you haven't been before.

Review 87:the rooms were beautiful, huge beds, excellent facilities. Good sky coverage for TV, bathrooms beautiful. Nice touches of fresh coffee. Can't fault anything about the rooms - first class.

Review 88:Quality of food in restaurant did not meet the quality of the property. Being charged for the bedroom slippers if taken with you! Dust on the headboard and curtain pelmets

Review 89:Great location Very peaceful Period property Good facilities Comfortable Queen size bed Well equipped accommodation Spacious rooms Resident cat 'Biscuit' is adorable!

Review 90:Need to ask for a quiet room, as one is very close to Reception

Review 91:Service Food (excellent for allergies) Comfort of room Facilities in room (decent coffee!!) Real ale available in bar Can cope with food allergies Room changed to a quiet room on request

Review 92:Nothing

Review 93:Room was large, very well equipped, huge stylish bathroom and walk in shower. Fresh milk and mini bar fridge with very reasonable prices. Eggs Benedict some of the best I've ver had!

Review 94:Breakfast 'Painfully' slow (Nearly an hour) even though not busy, one couple left as he had waited so long for his Scrambled egg! Noise above at 3.15am woke me up, Not sure what's above The Oak suite? Also Tv was very erratic to turn on (only worked through HD using main control, then onto Sky control (Had to call the GM out for this in the evening, a note would help queries.

Review 95:Beautiful room/features. Comfortable bed, stunning Bathroom. All little extras covered robes etc...

Review 96:Pin code received on email from booking.com did not work to get in door, was not told of another door code. Breakfast service slow.

Review 97:Nice modern rooms with in built speakers. Nice and clean. Friendly staff.

Review 98:presumed we were going to be in the room that was shown on our booking confirmation in the house but we were in courtyard room.
