Reviews for Salty Dog Hotel & Bistro

Review 1:Absolutely nothing. Really enjoyed the stay

Review 2:Excellent service from all staff. Fantastic food and drink. Cosy feel in restaurant and bar. Staff attentive to my parties needs. Room could do with a little tlc but was very clean with lovely small touches ie cookies, toiletries, bed towel animals. Room warm and comfortable. Also needed to iron a shirt and staff offered to do this as it was late in the day. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would recommend.

Review 3:The room content was very dated and underwhelming. Having a candle to light and create an ambience is a poor substitute for basiceverything else, though it definitely did have a view. Rooms these days need more

Review 4:Location & attitude of staff

Review 5:Heating was not working in our room, offered another of less quality. We refused, give us a very small heater. Small amount off bill could have been more generous.

Review 6:Great breakfast and great view

Review 7:The weather!

Review 8:Room was modern and well appointed. All the staff we came across were pleasant and helpful. The food at dinner and breakfast was above average.

Review 9:Service at breakfast a little slow that has not been the case at our previous visits

Review 10:The location and the comfort and views of the room. However the food (dinner menu) is absolutely excellent and of award standards.

Review 11:I couldn't fault this place, throughly enjoyed my 3 night stay.

Review 12:Staff were excellent, couldn't do enough for you, very dog friendly and food out of the world.

Review 13:Nothing, we really loved our stay and can't wait to go back with our dog!

Review 14:We loved the friendly staff and their dog friendly service throughout the hotel. Food was also delicious.

Review 15:Staff were excellent could not do enough for you and very helpful. Food was good Cocktails very good, not to expensive Good location for walking to shops and going along sea front for walks and Marina.

Review 16:It's not a bad experience, but just a mention that this is a popular restaurant/pub and so quite noisy if you have a room over the bar.

Review 17:Outstanding food in the restaurant, especially loved the rhubarb jam at breakfast, and very friendly staff. Great location. Aslo like the Salty Dog theming everywhere - very dog friendly. And a gin menu!

Review 18:there were lots of stairs to climb to room, stair carpet and dark painted walls are not very inviting, view from room was spoiled by condensation inside the double glazed window, bed was uncomfortable and room quite small.

Review 19:Staff, hotel location, view of marina from superior room, breakfast, free parking close to hotel & free wi-fi

Review 20:The bedrooms and hotel part of the salty dog have a lot to be desired, tired looking rooms and bathrooms. Zero pressure in the shower, it was more like a drip, the smallest TV you've ever seen and a lot of noise from downstairs. I think we may have been above the kitchen. It could do with a lot of love, a lick of paint and generally a make over. We didn't think it was great value for money at £85 a night!

Review 21:The food in the restaurant was good, apart from being served warm prosecco! Breakfasts were very good too.

Review 22:the room (number 8) was badly in need of some paint and a deep clean. £120 for what is described as a deluxe double is very poor value for money. Really took the edge off our stay.

Review 23:staff, restaurant and bar were great, lovely evening meal and breakfast. Great location.

Review 24:Room was poor and in need of decoration, also said there was a bath which there wasn't. Room was also cold and struggled to stay warm, didn't find it good value for money at all

Review 25:The staff were very helpful an extremely friendly! On arrival our room wasn't ready so they upgraded us 2 a room with a sea view which was lovely.Couldn't apologise enough they gave us a complentry drink an the upgrade for the price of the other room. Could do with redecorating and updating but very clean. Beautiful home made cookies in our room! The food in the restaurant was lovely but the menu was a bit fishy. Was surprised to know you can bring along your dog maybe next time!

Review 26:Rooms and way up to rooms in need of refurb Our room while it had the great view of harbour was in need of a major upgrade and bathroom also extra bed uncomfortable and both rooms and interior of hotel excessively hot

Review 27:Lovely food and bar bistro had great views of harbour staff mainly very efficient and friendly

Review 28:We dined in the restaurant and were a little confused about how the service worked. Our server ended her shift while we were still eating and did not present us with a check or let us know who would be serving us in her absence. Another server was less than thrilled to get us the check and it needed corrections.

Review 29:The Salty Dog is a lovely small, quaint hotel in a beautiful location. The room was romantic and the view was awesome. The staff was just wonderful, friendly and attentive. Going above and beyond to meet our needs and suggest things to do and see in the area. In the Bistro, the food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was really, really nice. A real pleasure!

Review 30:I loved everything about our stay from the friendly, helpful staff to the outstanding breakfast! Our room was fantastic with separate adjoining room for kids with their own TV which they loved! We will definitely be back and are counting down the days until next year!

Review 31:couldn't open windows properly - they had security latches. Wanted to get the sea air! Also shower really poor - why not get proper power showers?

Review 32:seafront location, lovely restaurant, free parking, close to Bangor centre but quiet (noise from pubs and bars is often a really big problem in this town!)

Review 33:Too many stairs for anyone with mobility issues. My 82 year old mother found it difficult.

Review 34:Location great.Room very comfy.Ate in bistro for dinner and breakfast....both very good.

Review 35:The only thing we did not like was that there were lots of small narrow stairs but as we were informed the building is so old and treasured that they are not allowed to put a lift into it. Saying that we would stay at it again if need be.

Review 36:The Receptionists were very helpful, friendly, really pleasant and just the type of people one would like to see on the front desk. The room was clean, fresh & had all that we needed in it.. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were polite and friendly.

Review 37:It's hard to fault, the decor in the upstairs corridors needs updating sometime, but it didn't spoil my stay.

Review 38:Liked practically everything Lively bar and restaurant, good food, excellent pigeon on the menu, superb coffee, helpful friendly staff, thoughtfully furnished rooms.

Review 39:Stayed for two nights. Good location once you sussed out the one way system. Friendly staff and all local( I think). Ate both nights in the restaurant and food was excellent. Will definitely visit again.

Review 40:Hotel staff always friendly and helpful. Couldn't do enough for us even bringing the dog water and treats! Which he thoroughly enjoyed. An excellent hotel to stay in and the food was outstanding as always. Definitely a return trip will be booked!

Review 41:Pretty much everything! Great location & views, beautifully decorated interior. Excellent food, both for Dinner & Breakfast, great selection of Ales, our bar tender was lovely, never caught her name but was from Oz, a credit to the Hotel! x

Review 42:All was very good

Review 43:Kids loved the dogs in the bar and all were very well behaved (that's the dogs!). Staff were really good and looked after us really well. My little boy was not feeling great one evening and the staff really cared and helped out with that. Very genuine. A really lovely spot, lovely location too.

Review 44:Waited over 40 minutes on dinner and burger was supposed to be pink inside but part of raw and discarded. Was going to concert so had no time to wait again

Review 45:Friendly and helpful

Review 46:Maeve the receptionist was very helpful and went out of her way to help us, providing route maps and suggestions as where to go. The bed was very comfortable.

Review 47:The bed should have been dumped a long time ago rather than trying to get their money worth. I'll not be staying again ever. Superior double was a basic double. Cracked bathroom floor tiles

Review 48:The staff extremely helpful and hospitable. Food lovely. Choice of food & alcoholic drinks great. Best margarita!!! Quirky table decorations etc and throughout hotel. Just bitterly disappointed with the bed and size of superior room??? More like a basic double with a sea view

Review 49:Room very over priced. Very cold had to sleep with bathrobes on all night is was so cold. Also did not realise shower was in bath and after knee replacement a few months ago could not manage to use it as it was to awkward to get into. They did reduce room rate at checking out, but still think they could do more.

Review 50:Staff very nice. Breakfast very good.

Review 51:The layout was a bit confusing, and the hotel has no elevator, causing a bit of difficulty for my elderly mother.

Review 52:The staff was wonderful, and we very much enjoyed dining in the restaurant and lounge. Great location, right on the harbor.

Review 53:Nothing..

Review 54:Liked the Room with a Sea View.. Liked the way our room had been heated for us before we arrived,. The food was very good and the waiter/bar-staff were very attentive. It had a nice atmosphere in the bar and dining room. Best night sleep i have had for quite a while, very relaxing..In the Morning we had a lovely breakfast again ,waiting staff were very attentive. We will definitely return to the Salty Dog in the near future .

Review 55:Attic bedroom meant lots of stairs (not good for my wife's replaced knee). Decor and decoration state of room was not consistent with modern boutique character of hotel. Default position was for rooms (and particularly stairwell) to be heavily overheated.

Review 56:Friendly, helpful staff, massive breakfast included and good value 2-course evening meal. Good location.

Review 57:I like that it's not a big-name brand hotel. It has its own character and feel to it. The staff were excellent and very friendly. I liked the place.

Review 58:The decor of the room was a little disapointing more of a B&B standard but the view and the bed made up for the decor would not put me off going back for a return visit.

Review 59:The location The staff The view The food

Review 60:The noisey radiator The old bath The paint work was cracked

Review 61:Good choice of gin Gorgeous food Very friendly helpful staff Loved the room very comfortable Loved the cookies Loved having the bottled water for guests

Review 62:Decorating needed to be done and the TV ‘s in the family room needed attention .

Review 63:The food was fabulous , staff were so helpful and friendly , the atmosphere was great , overall I will book there again in a heart beat !!

Review 64:The cystren in the toilet took forever to refill. The Wi Fi access was not available. Had to climb too many stairs with 3 off the 4 elderly is was heart attack material.

Review 65:Close to all facilities as promised. Although there was no designated parking got street parking just outside.

Review 66:Was disappointed in the room. Not up to standard on website. Electric fittings ie ceiling light was loose. Also got small electric shock, door handle faulty, were locked in our room and had to ring reception who quickly sent someone to fix and let us out.

Review 67:Staff, food, location was all very good

Review 68:It's a real shame as the bed looked really nice, but it was probably one of the worst nights sleep I've had in a hotel. I couldn't move my arm without the whole frame creaking. It was so noisy there was no chance to get off to sleep. I'd recommend some strong glue, or ear plugs.

Review 69:Loved lots. Colour scheme and over all appearance and cleanliness. Also galaxy hot chocolate

Review 70:The website shows a lovely white room - wifi throughout - £120 a nightinc breakfast ( that's the small cooked - it's £3 a head morefor the full breakfast !) - Great value ... we arrived to be faced withlaundry bags piled up against the fire escape -outside our door ( Picsbelow ) then the room painted a dirty brown - sloping floors andceilings and no wifi - we complained and were offered a code for a WiFi- that doesn't exist in Room 15 - and a bottle of wine - I booked awhite room clean and shiny - not this hovel . No amount of wine wouldcompensate ! The restaurant was fully booked and we ate in the bar - thefood was expensive and to be fair - not great -one meal was taken offthe bill because it was so late being served ( 40 mins after everyoneelse ) and not great - we wanted food - together - not a discount - youget the routine - we ate elsewhere for the rest of the four days -breakfast was ok - half a cooked breakfast inc ( ? ) the eggs Benedictis what you should recommend to someone you hate - the service waseither very good ( Aaron ) or awful - a lady who hates her job slammingbowls down with a hiss - we are busy - on the last night our sheetsremained unchanged - aggghhhh. Never again . We told the hotel howunhappy we were and were told the owner is the Head of some businessorganisation - Oh Dear ...

Review 71:The breakfast is half a 'full english' or 'ulster fry'for a full english you can pay £3 per head more . The bar is nice - butif you eat in the bar at the sofa the table is too high. The sea view islovely and most of the staff are very very nice and friendly ...

Review 72:Very relived to find a hotel that catered for dogs and liked them. Treats were always at hand and available to buy. Great walking close by if you have a hound. Will be using again.

Review 73:Room got a bit hot and i didnt know how to cool it down but i didnt ask anyone either. I am sure it would not have been a problem at all

Review 74:The attitude was impeccable and i felt they displayed a genuine we can never do enough to make your stay more memorable. Service and attitude i have not seen in a long time!!

Review 75:There was nothing that we didn't like :))

Review 76:We enjoyed the beautiful view from our room at number 11also the delicious breakfast that was severed to us by the wonderful and friendly staff could not of asked for better

Review 77:Breakfast was 40 minutes,to wait,,had to get more tea and coffee,,toast,as everything was cold, seemed to not know residents,as people, came in for breakfast, got served quicker

Review 78:Bedroom,was comfortable,lovely touches,comfortable bed,,friendly staff in bar,,

Review 79:The price for a superior room and the state it was in. Very bad. The mould thing is a health and safety issue. It must be reported to the NITB immediately and the problem fixed permanently. A listed building is no excuse for a persistent water leak which has Been going on for years.

Review 80:Staff very good.

Review 81:As a converted Victorian/Edwardian building, the hotel internal layout is a little confusing.

Review 82:Superior room had wonderful sea views. Easy walking distance to town centre and marina. Brilliant food, huge breakfasts. All the staff so helpful and friendly.

Review 83:Being over a pub made the room very noisy. Wifi had broken down so not available and the TV also had to be replaced. Public areas tired, bathroom not that clean and paper beginning to peel off.

Review 84:Comfortable bed, welcoming staff who tried to sort out problems. Breakfast good.

Review 85:There were a couple of staff that were rude and acted like I was a nuisance asking them for anything (in particular a bar man who was just awful) my room was a bit shabby and there was little ventilation and I couldn't turn down the heater in the bathroom which made sleeping impossible during a very warm weather spell

Review 86:The food and location was excellent most of the staff were lovely

Review 87:All good!

Review 88:Really lovely welcome with a comfortable room and a great view out over Belfast Lough and the sea. The food was excellent - we really enjoyed are stay - thank you!

Review 95:The location, even though it was a very bad day weather wise, and can only say it would be even better in the summertime, when we intend to go back
