Reviews for The Daffodil Hotel & Spa
Review 1:I guess the food menu can be a bit of a challenge if you don't have an exotic palette. I'm generally quite keen to try new things, but even I settled for the cheese toastie!
Review 2:During our stay with at the Daffodil Hotel, Hurricane Desmond struck, causing severe flooding in Cumbria. Despite this, the hotel and its excellent staff rose to the challenge, working back to back shifts to ensure the safety and comfort of all their guests, many of whom were relocated from other, flooded hotels.
Review 3:Went when the worst flooding in 100years took place. Had to cut break short as Hotel was closing because of flood
Review 4:Staff looked after us very well in difficult circumstances
Review 5:We just happened to stay at the weekend hurricane Desmond hit Cumbria and altho the hotel ground floor was flooded, the staff handled the situation extremely well and made our stay as comfortable as possible under the circumstances
Review 6:Lovely location, lovely hotel, great staff
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:We have stayed at The Daffodil on several occasions. Never disappointed. Stunning views from our Junior Suite, room 227. A perfect treat for a special occasion
Review 9:Went for a spa afternoon and evening but the spa was shut ....wasnt told this when i called the hotel 2 hours before arriving. Offered a walk in the rain to alternate hotel /spa.
Review 10:It's a large hotel, so if you are looking for a warm/cozy feeling you have to look for something else.
Review 11:Beautiful location for this clean and spacious hotel. We got a free upgrade, because the Spa wat out of order.
Review 12:Set in stunning scenery with many grades of walking routes starting from the hotel. Situated about a 5 to 10 minute walk to Grasmere village. Delicious breakfast served each day.
Review 13:The pool in the spa was smaller than I would have liked.
Review 14:Friendly welcome from receptionists. Large luxurious bedroom and bathroom, clean and fresh decor. Beautiful location and scenery. Use of spa and lovely steam and sauna rooms.
Review 15:A light switch in our room fell off the wall when I used it, and sparked. It was fixed the following day. The wardrobes are small! The ironing board was too big for them and had to be stored out in the room. Just slightly lacking atmosphere in the lounge area.
Review 16:The spa was fantastic! The bed was huge and our double aspect room a good size. The food was very good.
Review 17:The only disappointment was the Spa being closed so my wife was unable to enjoy the whole experience. ?
Review 18:We enjoyed the whole experience .. The Daffodil Hotel was beautiful and the staff were very accommodating .. Thank you ?
Review 19:Service was just ok, could have been much friendlier. Everything was extra - slippers, robe, no face washers, body lotion. Very disappointing
Review 20:Very clean & comfortable
Review 21:Little sleep due to extremely loud music being played late into the night and no apology. Also had a £70 meal plus bottle of wine added to our bill at the end of our stay that we never had
Review 22:Good location and breakfast
Review 23:This is our second time at the hotel. Hotel is clean, situation is excellent for touring. Having stayed in several hotels in the lakes this is the best. Food and service in the restaurant was excellent.
Review 24:The room that I was provided with had really bad views where you could see all the bins where they bin their rubbish...also some of the staff members were rubbish at customer service and couldn't understand english at all
Review 25:The location was beautiful.
Review 26:Picturesque and convenient location. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. High specification refurbishment resulting in extremely comfortable and luxury rooms.
Review 27:treatments were far too expensive. I work in a salon and your prices were way out.
Review 28:the spa pool and facilities were excellent. the food was also excellent
Review 29:Unfortunately we were at the hotel during the bad weather and the hotel was flooded, quite badly as it was on the local news. We were awoken by the firebrigade at around 3.30am followed by a very noisy generator for the rest of the morning. It was such a shame as the weather ruined the weekend for us. The fire brigade were wonderful and prevented a major flood. I would love to visit again and hopefully have a really nice quite dry nights sleep!
Review 30:The hotel staff were very attentive and even with the flooding incident they coped very well.
Review 31:The spa flooded due to bad weather conditions although this wasn't the hotels fault and they did do their best to solve it under the circumstances. Non view room was a little noisy during the early morning as we were above the fans outside but it was not a huge problem for me and my partner. still a great hotel. next time will book a valley view room.
Review 32:Everything was excellent. Definitely will rebook 100%
Review 33:We had paid for a valley view room and were initially given a room overlooking the car park and cooling fans which was pretty noisy. After talking to reception we were allocated another room, again without a valley view as the receptionist insisted we had not booked one. At this point we checked on our ipad to confirm, as we were checking the room phone rang to inform us we had indeed booked a valley view room and they apologised and moved us again. We have no real complaint about the room we were moved into or the view. I would like to criticise the temp of the room as it would not turn down below 18 degrees, the staff informed us it should adjust to 14 degrees but it would not, this caused us to have to sleep with the window open as the room was next to the road it was very noisy from the passing traffic.
Review 34:Great facilities. An ideal location for all the Lake District.
Review 35:The staff were very accommodating and nothing seemed a problem... Only one concern with the direction given printed version were less than helpful as they pointed you in the wrong direction I suspect the person who wrote them at times mistook there left from right no harm done we just explored our second choice of walk from hotel to Ambleside taking in the rydal caves and all of the natural beauty around us on the way back be sure to take the long walk back around grassemrer waters and on to the village marvellous best food was at the travellers rest excellent
Review 36:Staff very helpful and friendly. Room had a lovely view. Wedding also being held on the Saturday did not affect any of facility's available for everyone else.
Review 37:We found the staff not very friendly and the service moderate. Breakfast was good, but the food for dinner was really disappointing.
Review 38:Great location by Grasser and in the midst of wonderful countryside. Nice rooms and good size bed.
Review 39:I would have liked the pool to have some of the submerged sitting area taken out as when I was having a little swim I banged my leg on the tiled corners as you can't see the edges when the jets and bubbles were on.
Review 40:The anniversary card and complimentory glasses of champagne with our dinner. Lovely clean big rooms and very comfortable beds. Great location with a lovely breakfast. It was our second visit to the daffodil and I feelthere will be more trips here to come. The spa is clean but small. Staff are lovely and very helpful.
Review 41:repairs to the spa ceiling required, must have been a leak but badly stained. bathroom tile grouting also in need of attention.minor points but let the hotel down
Review 42:location, excellent breakfast
Review 43:Was a little disappointed with the food eg my husband was promised his lamb would be pink - it definitely wasn't and no salad with my BBQ pulled pork burger. But then we are fussy!
Review 44:Lovely modern hotel with fantastic views over lake from public areas and some bedrooms
Review 45:The only negative feedback I would have is that when booking we requested a dinner reservation for our first evening but this was never confirmed by the hotel so we were unsure if we would be able to have dinner there or not and decided to go elsewhere before arriving at the hotel. Also we booked a treatment at the spa but were told the wrong time for our treatments and so arrived at the spa late. It would have been useful if the spa contacted us to tell us we had not turned up for our appointment as we were only in our room upstairs and could have easily come down on time.
Review 46:Spa is poor & expensive - also the Junior Suite is just a single room & not worth the (considerable) extra money you pay for it. Bar is also poor & unwelcoming.
Review 47:location
Review 48:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 49:The quality of the food was outstanding, the location was excellent, allowing easy access to Grasmere on foot but also other parts of the Lakes without having to drive through the village. The ambience of the hotel was excellent with an abundance of free parking and the staff successfully ensured we got the most from our stay.
Review 50:Requested a room with a lake view but we were in the room furthest away next to the road and had to peer round the corner of the window to see it
Review 51:Staff were great, really friendly, happy to help Hotel was very clean, modern and very well equipped
Review 52:Beautiful clean modern hotel. Very welcoming friendly staff. Spa area really good & relaxing. Superb food & service during our evening meal, staff vey knowledgeable about the menu. Top class
Review 53:The staff made our experience amazing. Very attentive in the restaurant, spa, bar area, and reception. They spoiled my husband as I had booked as a treat for his 40th. All the staff we came into contact with wished him a happy birthday, he got chocolates, a card, a lovely pudding, and even a glass of fizz! Every member of staff greeted us with a smile and all deserve a big Thankyou from me for making my husband very happy on his birthday!! Amazing venue for a nice quiet getaway
Review 54:The only criticism is that the spa did not open until 10am at the weekend and we were unable to use it before we finished our stay.
Review 55:Staff very helpful and the food was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble
Review 56:I would have like to have booked a spa treatment but was told they were FULLY BOOKED ALL WEEK. (without even knowing what I required) this was on the Sunday for the following week. The meals in the restaurant seemed the same. Would have liked a choice
Review 57:Great location and beautifully decorated rooms. Loved the spa pool. The breakfast was amazing and the staff great in the breakfast room.
Review 58:Spa was ok but small and the massage we both got was poor. Lunch was a bit expensive for what it was.
Review 59:Staff friendly, breakfast good and location great for views and walks.
Review 60:From the moment we entered Reception we were made to feel special. All facilities were explained in a friendly/professional manner. All the staff appeared to enjoy working there, and pleased to attend to our needs.
Review 61:No free robes in room. Lounge and bar area lacked character or atmosphere in the evening (needs an open fire or something to make it a bit more cosy)
Review 62:Great food and lovely room. Excellent service and location.
Review 63:Unable to accommodate booking request for two rooms located near each other. When we discovered we were on different floors reception staff did try to rearrange still unable to sort. Walk back from Grasmere Village is poorly lit, take a torch with you if you intend to return to the hotel at night. Showers in the spa were cold not sure if that is because we went there in the morning.
Review 64:Pleasant staff. Gave small gift and card to acknowledge one of our guests birthday. Lovely views from lake view rooms.
Review 65:I stayed here for 2 nights with my boyfriend for his birthday! It was an amazing stay! The room was lovely with nothing to fault an the food in the restaurant dinner an breakfast was out of this world! We loved it and we are definitely returning
Review 66:We stayed here for the 6th time a month ago and were put in room 120 as it was the last room available. As it was noisy, next to the restaurant and kitchen and overlooked the large air vents, dirty bin area where staff took their cigarette breaks. Not pleasant at all so we chose not to stay a 2nd night. I specifically said PLEASE DO NOT put us on that side of the building when we come back next month. This booking was made on August 17th. I asked if we could have the non view room we had had on our previous visits and we had also sent family to stay twice! But no they couldn't even do this for a customer who has now paid to stay here 9 times in total(family inc.)! This time room 320 same dirty view. Shameful!!!They also were aware that I was recovering from illness as this was explained last month. WE WILL NOT BE BACK. If you like a lie in the fruit at breakfast is not replenished. I also feel sorry for the Wedding parties that probably pay a fortune for this venue and get 6 ft of the same dirty red carpet to walk on on arrival. Buck your ideas up you area meant to be a 4 star establishment. We will be staying at the Moss Organic in future where we spent our 2nd night after walking out last time! Should've cancelled this latest booking as 1st planned.
Review 67:The restaurant manager was very pleasant.
Review 68:The spa not being available on Sunday until after 10 .00am. I was hoping for an early swim before going out for the day.
Review 69:A very good breakfast selection.
Review 70:Not a bad experience exactly but the hotel is just outside Grasmere village and a bit out of the way. There isn't enough going on in the area to keep myself and my husband occupied for more than one night without driving out and about which we don't like to do. No reflection on the hotel as it is lovely and very scenic, it's just our personal taste
Review 71:Contemporary 4 star hotel, clean and comfortable, very friendly and helpful staff. We were at a wedding which went off very smoothly! Our room was lovely and had a big bathroom with both a bath and walk in shower and the king size bed was very comfortable indeed!! We didn't use the a la carte restaurant but had a bar snack which was very reasonable and well cooked and the breakfast was really nice, everything from full English to continental or fruit/yogurt. The restaurant manager even found us a window table overlooking Grasmere lake so we could have breakfast with a view before we checked out, which I thought was lovely!! Check in and out was easy and every member of staff was pleasant and accommodating
Review 72:The unfriendly staff, the noise factor as there was a wedding function when we were there, the spa staff were unfriendly could not explain the treatments, did not seem to care. The desk staff very off handed and also seemed to care.
Review 73:The comfortable bed, the breakfast and the location.
Review 74:There was a man who lived in the corner house opposite who came to let his dogs defficate on the grass and did not clean it up, not good for a child friendly hotel. Also whilst in the lounge area , who I assumed was the manger having a meeting and discussing staff, which I found a bit inappropriate the meeting should of been held in an area away from guests.
Review 75:Very friendly staff, very clean hotel would not hestitate to come again
Review 76:didn't have all the tv channels
Review 77:lovely location within walking distance of Grasmere and walks in the area. Friendly helpful staff and a tasty breakfast overlooking the lake
Review 78:Bed was 2 singles pushed together so not the most comfortable, evening meal menu had nothing on it we liked so ended up going to the dove cottage restaurant over the road & into Ambleside
Review 79:Location is beautiful, room with a view is worth the extra money, spa & rooms are lovely, breakfast was really nice & all the staff are brilliant, couldn't do enough for us.
Review 80:Superb location and view from bedroom. Spacious and very clean room and bathroom. Staff extremely courteous and efficient. Excellent breakfasts and evening meals.
Review 81:The only issue I had, and it's a small one was the ironing board! It appeared cheap, and wouldn't stay upright. I gave up using it in the end, but imagine it could be quite dangerous if it collapses with a hot iron on it!
Review 82:The location was perfect for Grasmere and access to some good walks. The food was really good, and the room was nice and clean. The thermal pool was nice, but the room was a bit chilly when not in the water (think they may have to have air con to stop people overheating?).
Review 83:Some repairs needed to ceiling in hydrotherapy pool! And air con a little cool in there. Large, gixed toiletries in rooms like in spa showers seem a better idea.
Review 84:Room lovely, water in rooms, generally lovely place.
Review 85:Not a bad experience but the spa pool area needs repair.and updating and price of the evening meals where expensive for what they where
Review 86:Location and facilities
Review 87:Thought the pool could have been open a bit later at nights to allow an after dinner soak.
Review 88:We liked everything - the breakfasts were gorgeous, rooms lovely, staff couldn't be nicer. Especially loved the quirky artwork n the walls.
Review 89:Some of staff had a poor understanding of the English language
Review 90:Fantastic hotel, spotlessly clean, situated in an amazing location, can't wait to visit again.
Review 91:The lighting in our room. The light above the mirror in the bathroom went off when I used the sink and came on when I stopped washing... it was funny but annoying sometimes too. There was no light by the mirror in the bedroom to do hair and make up... Not really a complaint just observations that you may find helpful. Otherwise excellent room on all other counts
Review 92:The staff were really friendly and helpful. The pool was incredible and I had it to myself which was pure luxury. We had a great deal through booking.com so great value in our price range too. The food was good and plentiful and the dining room had the best views. The location was superb too.
Review 93:The only down side was we were on the 3rd floor which if you have a mobility problem there are a few stairs to contend with. The next time we stay we will ask for one on the lower floor.
Review 94:Good views from all rooms and convenient for bus services if you do not want to take your car.
Review 95:Female changing rooms in the Spa did not have cubicles and offered little privacy. Spa OK but rather dark and claustrophobic.
Review 96:Superb location an excellent facilities. Grand exterior with neat contemporary interior. Food excellent.
Review 97:We wherent took to our room, so it felt abit like a hostel/premier inn, it alsO meant we didn't no how to turn the lights on as you had to use your room card for this. The restaurant menu was disappointing there wasn't anything on there saying pick me, but on this has I'm sure the food would have been great. The spa let it down a little for us, it wasn't what we expect and the towels where more like beach towel rather than a spa x
Review 98:We couldn't fault the hotel room at all, the food was so so good, we had the daffodil burgers, great value for money with the food. The view you couldn't fault. Very good hotel, with little to improve
Review 99:We thought that the hotel lacked character. We booked a lake view room ( and payed extra) but the view was of the main road with a sideways view of the lake to the far right.
Review 100:The hotel is comfortable
Review 101:Breakfast experience not so good. Shown to dirty table without salt, pepper, sugar. Not given menu option whilst all other guests were advised of this. Too late when we realised. Had to ask for mik for tea and when it came it was served in large gravy boat? Strange. Food was ok
Review 102:Location is excellent and within easy walking distance into Grasmere village. Our room had lake view which I highly recommend. Evening meal lovely
Review 103:staff were very pleasant but short so service was not as good as you would expect. The food choice was not kept topped up and you had to ask for essentials to be replenished.
Review 104:The location, room and thermal pool.
Review 105:Shower seems to have mind on it's own... water was boiling hot for few seconds, then freezing cold and all over again. There was a bathtub, though...
Review 106:Nice location, spacious room with beautiful lake view.
Review 107:The only thing that we found upsetting was as this was our honeymoon and the hotel new this we thought that it would of been nice just to have something in our room from the hotel i.e a box of chocolates or bottle of wine.
Review 108:We booked the Daffodil hotel for our honeymoon, we booked just a double room without a view but our family upgraded us to a junior suite as a wedding gift ! The suite was lovely with a fantastic view. The breakfast was excellent, as was the food in the restaurant.
Review 109:The hotel was superb and all staff very friendly would recommend to anyone about 10min walk to Grassmere and 2hr walk through beautiful trail to Ambleside
Review 110:Hairs around the bath, the bar food was disappointing and expensive. The evening menu was fussy/pretentious/expensive and subsequently put us off eating in the restaurant both nights.
Review 111:The views, nice bathroom, breakfast was excellent. Comfortable bed and pleasant room.
Review 112:unable to book another massage as only one assure also my ,mistake thought there was gym and there wasn't! so had to swim as much as poss in hydro pool.
Review 113:polite friendly even chamber maids and maintenance staff. good spa and clean changing area not too busy.
Review 114:The room with a valley view , and the space within the room ,walking distance to grasmere village and the trek walk to Ambleside , Windermere within a 10 minuites drive , really friendly , supportive and pleasant staff.
Review 115:Lacked atmosphere in the bar, and a ground floor bar that never seemed open
Review 116:Size of rooms and bed location was about a ten minute walk from the town centre, a little dark in the winter months but that has no reflection on the hotel. I would stay here again, the spar is very nice too.
Review 117:bathroom window did not open, no dressing gown in the room, spa closed at 6.30 which is a bit early,
Review 118:Location, spa, view from window at breakfast, access to lake
Review 119:I paid for room service as a treat but felt that the additional charge was pretty expensive. I've never paid that much before. Also, I wasn't able to book a single spa treatment. Apparently there was only a trainee free that no matter what treatment i asked for, even a basic massage, I was met with a no. Disappointing.
Review 120:Beautiful hotel...amazing views. ..friendly helpful staff. Food was amazing.
Review 121:Nothing bad to report but it was a little pricey. We paid extra for a view which we really didn't make the use of. You're paying for the location and it was worth it as a treat!
Review 122:The setting was just beautiful, we stayed one night on our honeymoon. The bar staff were kind enough to offer us a complimentary drink and the reception staff stored our cake and allowed us to arrange a courier collection. Nothing was too much for anyone. Would love to stay again!
Review 123:my room was apparently 'upgraded' . although this provided a pleasant distant view of the valley, the immediate view was of the massive pipe work attaching to the side of the building. Not sure how this could be considered an upgrade. My son and partner were happy with their room.
Review 124:The staff in the Spa area were very friendly and helpful.
Review 125:Little details let them down. Poor service by a manager at dinner time, windows were dirty and covered in spider webs. Feels like it needs some tlc and some customer service training for more senior staff.
Review 126:Staff were friendly, hotel was nice, location was perfect
Review 127:Spa treatments expensive. Some rooms without a view look out on to noisy back of house areas.
Review 128:Good spa facilities, which were free to use for hotel guests. Lake views. Not far from Ambleside and Bowness.
Review 129:Air con wasn't brilliant but it didnt matter too much as the weather wasn't too warm.
Review 130:Superb hotel with everything you could wish for. Beautiful spa facility and amongst the cleanest we've ever stayed at.
Review 131:One and only evening we dined 29th sept we found the restaurant air conditioning too cold and mentioned this to staff who appeared not to be able to resolve the situation, other guests returned to rooms and came back with woollies.
Review 132:Rooms very spacious and extremely comfortable, TV good reception, enjoyed spa facilities,Breakfast variety good, excellent location for walks and reaching other areas of the lakes.
Review 133:Didn't get the best views from the room. And was a bit small with the bed as a twin. Tried to pre-order early check-in but had to wait til 3pm. However staff did keep bags at reception for us. Late check-out is a bit pricey considering it's only for an hour and a half.
Review 134:Amazing spa and lovely food in restaurant. Breakfast was hot and tasty with lots of choice. Treated really well by staff always eager to help. Nice big bathroom and incredibly comfortable bed.
Review 135:The hotel was fully booked with a large wedding party which they couldn't seem to handle at breakfast.
Review 136:Very relaxing Spa area. Very Clean Hotel in a lovely location
