Reviews for The Temple
Review 1:Maybe a little price you £92 and did not include breakfast. Extra £9.95 for breakfast, bit expensive we thought
Review 2:Great location. Very welcoming and friendly staff.
Review 3:Really cannot think of anything to criticise.
Review 4:So much to like about the Temple, which is a very old property with a great history. It is well maintained and beautifully presented throughout. Our room was immaculate and with a lovely view. The owners are welcoming, friendly and attentive. The breakfasts were excellent and offered plenty of choice. In the evening, the Temple bar is a nice place to relax over a couple of drinks. Would most certainly stay again and can't recommend it highly enough.
Review 5:Location was excellent for access to the main street of Matlock Bath and the path up to the Height of Abraham The owner was very courteous and welcoming Great friendly bar and an excellent full breakfast
Review 6:The pillow was soft all are feathers and my preference was for a firm one. This request was fulfilled immediately.
Review 7:The greeting on arrival no hassles with check in. Chris the host was always willing to fulfil any requests.
Review 8:Nothing bad to say !
Review 9:Very nice room with good bathroom and shampoo , hand wash etc all there to use , the bed was very big and extremely comfy and the room was very clean too !
Review 10:The hotel was a tad distance away from the main eating and shopping area.
Review 11:Most of our stay was good staff were smiley and very helpful the Barman did his best to arrange a taxi and did get us one after using his own mobile for a number so thank you
Review 12:Breakfast really wasn't great, staff were very attentive but parts of it weren't cooked and sausages really weren't pleasant but wouldn't put us off staying
Review 13:Pictures didn't do the room justice it really was lovely. Traditional and lots of character. Bathroom was emmaculate and modern with good quality extras like conditioner and handwash. Towels were lovely and soft. Bed was huge and very comfortable.
Review 14:The only problem was that the wifi kept going in and out occasionally. But we didn't mind as we weren't there to stay on the internet all the time!
Review 15:My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights and it was lovely. The location was fantastic, staff were polite and helpful, and the room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely come and stay again.
Review 16:Picturesque setting overlooking a valley. The staff were friendly and helpful and VERY unobtrusive. Good parking; though walking access to/from surrounding facilities would be a problem for the elderly or semi-ambulant due to the elevated setting.
Review 17:The walk back up the hill from the town, plus no lifts could make this a challenge for people with mobility problems.
Review 18:Quality furnishings with all mod cons, friendly owners with a view from every room set above Matlock with its own traditional ale bar with open fires, excellent and almost unique.
Review 19:Breakfast wasn't included and expensive to buy in addition to room. Outside of hotel needs a paint but inside is very nice
Review 20:Comfy bed and lovely room with view. Friendly staff.
Review 21:The hotel was cold bed was very uncomfortable looked very run down internet picture must of been taken years ago will never go to that hotel ever be warned.
Review 22:Matlock is still a very beautiful place enjoyed the pubs but spoiled by the rubbish hotel.
Review 23:Breakfast very small, no option of brown or white bread , just given 2 slices of brown toast = 1 each & when given extra only a slice each again. Bathroom reminded me of hospital toilets very clinical and basic. Outside could do with a lick of paint, especially the car park hotel side wall.
Review 24:Where it's situated is good close to everything, building has lots of potential but definitely needs updating or nightly price decreasing to suit.
Review 25:Room a bit on the cool side but wasn't in it all that much. A little jealous of the size of room that my daughter had compared to mine but if I hadn't seen hers, wouldn't have known!
Review 26:Sympathetic use of an old building, the bar opening early especially for us, the lovely carpet throughout.
Review 27:One minor item: no apple juice at breakfast only orange available.
Review 28:The Service was friendly and very helpful, The meals were well prepared and served. Chris seemed to enjoy himself dealing with our group.
Review 29:There was no welcome, just quickly shown to the room, was given no information . The place really needs lots of repairs.
Review 30:It was quite. Parking was at the front.
Review 31:Would have preferred a more effective shower, absence of an armchair in the room.
Review 32:The wonderful views, beautiful window boxes and plants, good breakfasts, good bar, comfortable bed, helpfulness of the proprietors.
Review 33:Our room did not over look matlock it over looked the car park and the window did not have a net curtain so during the day we had to shut the curtains because people walking past could look in.the hotel also had a strange smell.if you decide to stay out after 12midnight be aware you will be locked out as we were not told this on arrival we were locked out and had to wack someone up.
Review 34:The location was very good
Review 35:The rooms themselves could do with a spruce up as decor was slightly dated. Also slightly expensive (£90 a night for double room, without breakfast) I thought for out of holidays but all in all I'd stay there again and mark it 8/10
Review 36:The owner was really nice and the hotel had beautiful views. Matlock bath has lots to do as well.
Review 37:couldn't access wifi in room shower water pressure weak
Review 38:Location : set up on hillside away from traffic with lovely views Log fire in bar on some evenings
Review 39:the sign to entrance on the main road could have been painted in a bright colour. so motorist can see it..
Review 40:it was clean, warm, a very comfy bed, a choice for your breakfast. in all a very nice place, even had its own fully licence bar.charming host.
Review 41:What more can you say, a gem in the midst of a fantastic spa town. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and look forward to returning soon!!.. Shame about the weather, but hey, I think the owner would have even tried to change that if he could!!
Review 42:I thought the hotel was old and worn the chair in our room was full of stains also there was a smell in the hotel that was not very nice I don't know what it was.
Review 43:The bed was ok.
Review 44:nothing
Review 45:really comfy big bed clean and spacious ensuite with lovely products and good towels marvellous breakfasts, many choices charming host ideal base for exploring town and nearby area
Review 46:4 of us booked independantly. at £90.00 my booking was the most expensive AND it didnt include breakfast which I had to pay extra for. All the other bookings also included breakfast. I was not the last to book either. Therefore NOT "best price" !!!
Review 47:breakfast
Review 48:Needed a hotel close to Matlock Bath. Hotel is situated high up looking down on the town, nice views from the room which was very comfortable. Excellent breakfast, and don't miss the pie night on Tuesday's. Staff very helpfull.
Review 49:pillows too soft, cold water tap in the on-suite didnt work, breakfast not cooked very well and the room was too small for the price. Paid £120 per night with breakfast for 2, i think £75 would of been more realistic. Went to weatherspoons in matlock for breakfast the 2nd day, less than half the price and 3 times better !
Review 50:location and view from the room.
Review 51:The sash window in our bedroom tended to open itself and was difficult to close; the location of the building makes it difficult for older people, we are both in our 70's without transport, as the climb is VERY steep. 10 mins from the station is stretching it a bit!
Review 52:We liked our visit very much and enjoyed the excellent breakfasts and the real ale in the bar.
Review 53:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 54:The rooms were beautifully appointed. The staff were helpful but not intrusive. The views were amazing. Breakfasts lovely.
Review 55:Really nice hotel very friendly staff and the breakfast's are very tastey, rooms are clean and a good size. Good location only a couple of miles from Matlock. If you like waking they have quite a lot of routes for you to do, with a print out of the routes that you can take away with you. I would claddly stay there again. Many thanks.
Review 56:Cold water supply very very slow in room 7. Breakfast a bit too late for me on a weekend.

Review 59:Without a SatNav its not that easy to find.

Review 61:Breakfast was lovely however slightly overpriced at 9.95.
Review 62:Location. Friendliness and accommodation of the staff.
Review 63:Brilliant location, couldn't aske for better
Review 64:Poor internet connection
Review 65:Great views, and not far from the busy main esplanade but far enough away for it not to be noisy or busy
Review 66:Friendly staff. Very welcoming. Quiet hotel. Enjoyed it.
Review 67:Comfy bed, cosy old fashioned room, quiet area, beautiful views.
Review 68:The bar was a bit dated and pricey
Review 69:Very friendly relaxed atmosphere. We will be going again

Review 96:Friendly and welcoming
Review 97:Wi Fi not strong. A little on the high side price wise
Review 98:The welcome and attention during the stay
Review 99:There was only a disappointing front outside sitting space. There were no evening meals served.
Review 100:Kingsize bed and comfortable armchairs were good.
Review 101:I thought this hotel was awful The shower didn't work in room 7 The rooms were not clean and smelt very badly
Review 102:Nothing !! it was awful the smell was damp and musky on arrival the window was left open in room 5 I was appalled it was cold I had 3 rooms also 7 and 8 for 2 nights very basic and the manager Melanie was so rude and said we had to be in the room by 1130 pm or she was locking the front door ? I am a food caterer selling food at the Bakewell festival and I lost a lot of trade and business of this I would never recommend this hotel it was dirty and old fashioned I would never stay here again
Review 103:The tatty aspect of the fabric of the building. The fact that, when we stayed, the place was run more like a bar with rooms than a hotel. The lack of heating in our room on the first night. The response to that from staff and owner. It's not a professionally run hotel.
Review 104:The room was pleasant and nicely furnished, particularly with the armchairs set in the bay window, and had a good view. Shortbread biscuits.
Review 105:Staff couldn't have been more friendly & helpful in giving advice on where to eat, local walks, etc. Nothing too much trouble. No frills here but highly recommended.
Review 106:No Evening meals but there is nearby restuarants. Breakfast expensive for one person nearly £10 cafe down the road half price. Externally the building a little tatty but this added to the stay within an old building.
Review 107:Location was perfect, lovely room & en-suite laundry clean & great view.
Review 108:Wasn't sure if central heating in the room or needed to use a heater... The bathroom had a central heating heater
Review 109:Friendly staff including the bar man who offered cutlery - and who was generally very welcoming and happy looking...advised on nearby facilities (even though details where also available in my room). Excellent location
