Reviews for The Old Bridge Inn
Review 1:Rooms was cold on arrival, smaller than I expected and not nearly as nice as you would expect for the money (not Cheap). Bathroom old and tired. Let the whole stay down. Needs some investment.
Review 2:excellent bar, superb breakfast. Staff very helpful and a delight to be around
Review 3:The shower was difficult to work and the room was basic but still represented reasonable value.
Review 4:Very helpful lovely staff in this popular Hotel which was situated perfectly in the middle of Holmfirth itself. The bar and restaurant area were very nicely done out and the welcome and friendliness of all the staff was just great. My dog was also made very welcome and efforts made to meet our needs. Really enjoyed my stay and would stay again. Everything was clean and tidy. My room had a lovely view straight over the square with the town clock and a very lively river running through. Very pretty as a view both day and night and it was lovely and quiet.
Review 5:Bizarrely, difficult to find (don't trust the sat-nav!)
Review 6:Great place in the very heart of Holmfirth. really good food in the restaurant . Very pleasant staff - very good welcome.
Review 7:able to take coffee or a pint in quiet bar without booking meal although we did eat one night. the newly refurbished bar/restaurant very tasteful
Review 8:Just a couple of misunderstandings, they didn't realise we had already paid and we were moved from our table in the restaurant but they were minor things and didn't change how great our stay was
Review 9:The food was easily the highlight of the stay
Review 10:It was far too hot that was my only downside it made it uncomfortable to eat we had to rush our dinner.......
Review 11:Staff & service very good & pleasant
Review 12:I thought the price was way too high, especially by comparison to other places in the local area and for what you get. The room we had was an attic room and quite small, for the price paid, NOT INCLUDING breakfast it was too much. There are places nearby that are cheaper and include Breakfast in the price and all are very good, more than one excellent.
Review 13:Location, especially for Picturedrome gigs is perfect, you won't find better and bar and food is excellent.
Review 14:Awkward to found car park as not very prompt sign to Car park . Not best accessible eithny er
Review 15:Very nice place in General , don't think any more could be done to improve a lovely place !
Review 16:The rooms look tired and the bedroom furniture is a bit old. The bedrooms are coloured cream/brown/maroon and together with the "dim" energy eficient lighting seem dingy. The showers need some attention.
Review 17:The bar areas and restaurant are really good lovely wooden beams - all authentic. Great selection of real beers and wine. The food is very good too. The breakfast is excellent.
Review 18:The check out time is punishing. There is a pub/restaurant downstairs at The Old Bridge Inn; I would have stayed longer in there in the evening, but knowing that I had to get up to check out, I actually think that The Old Bridge Inn lost some money.
Review 19:Everything. Good facilities, generous with tea/coffee/biscuits/milk, shampoos etc. Very pretty room.
Review 20:Room very small, the door hit the bed when you opened it, hard to get in with a bag, advertised with bathroom but only had a shower. Small car park.
Review 21:Good service, very clean room.
Review 22:We had a small room in much need of an update. Especially bad was the bathroom, it was impossible to balance the temperature in the shower properly. Fitting a soft-close toilet lid does not mean you've modernised the bathroom!
Review 23:Great position right in the centre of Holmfirth, within easy walking distance of the attractions and also of lots of pubs and restaurants.
Review 24:£20.00 per head for breakfast. The most expensive omlette I have ever eaten. Really spoiled mine & my boyfriends trip. The price wasn't mentioned when we sat down for breakfast. £40.00 in total for a couple slices of toast, english brekkie, omlette & tea & coffee. Breakfast price was unreal!!
Review 25:The room was lovely, but too warm. Windows didn't open far enough to let in fresh air.
Review 26:Staff were very pleasant and helpful. They worked together to meet our needs and seemed to really like their jobs. That leaves a good impression.
Review 27:Shower was poor - though did not give them the chance to fix it as I was only there 2 nights, they said they would get somebody to look at it when I left. Quite noisy could here neighbouring rooms
Review 28:Location, staff, breakfast was very good
Review 29:Nothing at all
Review 30:Lovely building right in the center of Holmfirth. Great stop-over, parking on site. Staff very very friendly and helpful. Rooms immaculate and the breakfast is a real treat. The town has plenty of choice and very typical of the area. Will return without a doubt.
Review 31:Car park was full but the pay and display opposite was ok.
Review 32:We needed to be in Holmfirth for an appointment and it was the perfect location. great that they have single rooms a lower price as a family of 3 we often end up paying for 2 double rooms.
Review 33:No shower gel or bath soap in room. One member of staff not very friendly. Price of drinks - £9.60 for a pint and a glass of wine.
Review 34:Comfortable and cosy in a superb location. Good food and drink. Most staff friendly and accomodating.
Review 35:UHT milk in the rooms. I cannot stand it. This is the only fault I could find with this hotel.
Review 36:The bed breakfast and evening meal offer was an absolute bargain. The food was great and good size portions. The staff were very helpful. The location could not have been better as we were right next to the Picturedrome.
Review 37:Bathroom could do with updating. Shower was very small. £70 we thought was not really value for money, It could have included breakfast
Review 38:I liked the decor and furnishings in the bar and restaurant. The beds in the rooms were clean and comfy
Review 39:--had difficulty finding the entrance to the hotel by car --went round Holmfirth 3 times. Details on the booking sheet would have helped. Room small, bed needs replacing.
Review 40:The lunchtime staff were so helpful and friendly which gave us a lovely welcome. The breakfast and evening meal were tasty.
Review 41:Carrying suitcases to the upper floors
Review 42:Good clean accommodation with very friendly staff especially in the bar area. Central location with easy access to the local sites
Review 43:The staff were really helpful, as they looked after some boxes I couriered. I had gluten free toast for breakfast with beans and mushrooms. This was very nice, and I was happy to be charged less than a meat eater. Overall a very nice place in a good location.
Review 44:Breakfast was poor - scrambled egg very overdone and shrivelled-up mushrooms. The shower in the room was rather under-powered.
Review 45:Central location, decent-sized single room, smart public areas, friendly staff.
Review 46:No shower. Conventional bath but plumbing problem on cold water tap meant unable to use bath. For a one night stay understandable that the defect could not be rectified at short notice.
Review 47:Friendly staff.
Review 48:The room was unbearably hot, even in October. There was a portable air conditioning unit in the room, but it was not plugged in. Attempting to do so resulted in half a gallon of water spilling onto the carpet!
Review 49:Very convenient for exploring the town. Very good choice of ale at the bar.
Review 50:Stayed here many times.Always made to feel welcome by all staff.Adequate tea, coffee making facilities. Lovely clean towels. Plenty of loo roll and shower gel etc. A sanitised bath mat in wrapper was there if needed. Food is good and varied. Value for money.
Review 51:Only issue really was the shower was on 1 temperature (scoulding) coulnt be turned down no matter how much you turned the taps.
Review 52:Quick check in, knowledgeable staff, great central location. Great food.
Review 53:Room 22 - Small and very hot, even through the night - Is it over the kitchen? No temperature control on the shower - unbearably hot water or none at all and !couldn't use it. I wouldn't have wanted to stay a second night in it.
Review 54:Very good, helpful and pleasant staff. Breakfast was excellent - It would be hard to find a better one.
Review 55:Room a tad small - could not open door fully into room Shower bijou too
Review 56:Super friendly staff Took care of bicycle well Good food and at right price Good choice of ale Great place to stay in Holmfirth
Review 57:it was Holmfirth food festival the room overlooked the centre and it was really busy and noisy especially early the following morning.
Review 58:Loved the location its smack in the middle of Holmfirth. The food was really good.
Review 59:The shower was poor with low water pressure. My husband and I didn't mention during our stay but we didn't care for the breakfast. We had omelet which was over cooked and had a rubbery cheese all over it. It resembled a pizza and had a greasy spoon taste to it. We expected something special with the price of the resteraunt food.
Review 60:The Pub area is really pleasant with a great atmosphere. The staff were all really helpful.
Review 61:The rooms were very hot and the furnishings could do with an upgrade. No extractor fan in the bathroom which caused the bathroom to fill with steam.
Review 62:The location and staff.
Review 63:shower could be a bit stronger
Review 64:staff very friendly and helpful;modern bar area with good selection of ales free car parking ..wonderful breakfast.room clean and well appointed
Review 65:The room was very hot, not a problem, just an observation. Some squeeky floorboards.
Review 66:Friendly and helpful staff, great food and drink, room facilities and comfy bed.
Review 67:Our stay was excellent all round - but the icing on the cake was when I discovered I had left my Kindle behind. The helpful staff posted it to me so I received it the next day - along with some coins I had left on the bedside table! We were beyond impressed and so appreciative of their efforts.
Review 68:Room didn't reflect the refurbishment in the bar or dinning area. Bedroom was too hot - unbearable!! We opened the window but the noise from outside was too loud. The noise lasted until at least 2am. Even with the window open it was still too hot!! Didn't get no sleep!!
Review 69:Location is central with everything on your doorstep. Breakfast was good value for money.
Review 70:With the location being in the town centre. Had one night disturbed by another night clubs noise.
Review 71:The location is very good. The staff are brilliant. The food is absolutely gorgeous and well presented. Highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a friendly atmosphere and good service.
Review 72:The bed was uncomfortable and the room was tired and dated- very poor value for £90 per night for room only.
Review 73:The breakfast was very good, although we had to pay extra for it.
Review 74:Uncooked black pudding by temp chef and told duty manager. She didn't eat cooked breakfast so asked how it should be cooked.
Review 75:Location and friendly staff
Review 76:No bad experience. Air conditioning would have been a bonus but a large electric fan and open window helped.
Review 77:Excellent food, friendly staff, central location.
Review 78:Only one breakfast option, which was expensive, would of liked a lighter breakfast option.
Review 79:Helpful, friendly staff. Really pretty location, very modern and stylish bar and restaurant.
Review 80:Slight moan. Shower very small. I just managed to get in, my husband couldn't. Extractor fans in both of the two rooms we booked had been removed. Hope the bedrooms are next for refurbishment.
Review 81:Being so central meant we could easily visit everywhere in the town on foot. The hotels bar and restaurant refurbishment is fabulous. The breakfast and meals are delicious. Staff all very friendly and helpful. If we visit again we would not hesitate to book with you.
Review 82:The room (26) was far too small, it really was a single room with a double bed in it which made it extremely cramped, it had very sparse and dated furnishings and only a small window for ventilation - nothing like the room in the photographs. We couldn't sleep for the heat in the room even though a desk fan was provided. The bathroom had no ventilation and the shower was pathetic, nothing more than a trickle. Our room overlooked the exterior seating areas and because we needed to keep the window open for some air, there was a lot of noise from the revellers outside. When we asked to be moved to a bigger room we were told that the only other room available was exactly the same size and also overlooked the outside seating!
Review 83:The public areas are modern and comforable and the food in the restaurant was nice. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. Although difficult to get to the car park the location is nice and central.
Review 84:Room small and noisy when rowdy teens going past the street.
Review 85:Central position, close to everything we wanted to see. Good tea/coffee making facilities. Handy eating facilities.
Review 86:Room was very hot but we did have a fan. Car park entrance was tricky to find.
Review 87:Very friendly staff. Breakfasts were excellent and huge. Meals were varied and of good quality.
Review 88:Really, really friendly staff. Great location. Safe, secure parking... always a must for us. Fantastic breakfast and lots of it. Olde- world hotel with everything you need in room.
Review 89:For myself the bed was to hard. The main problem is the bathroom, it needs up dating, we had to fight the shower as the controls are on the taps so we had to dive out of the way when we turned the shower on.(not sure if we were getting cold or hot water at that moment) It would not have been to bad if the glass screen seal did not leak water onto the floor, the lighting was poor, door catch was brocken so would not shut, not a lot of places to hang the towels,No extraction in the bathroom. The kettle lead was to short for the position it was in, too use it you had to angle the kettle (very unsafe)
Review 90:It was in an ideal situation and we found it a plessant stay. The staff were very helpful and the food was of a very high standard.
Review 91:WAITER GETTING DRINKS ORDER WRONG THEN SAME WAITER NOT BRINGING BILL WHEN ASKED GAVE THE IMPRESSION WAS NOT BOTHERED SECOND WAITER WAS VERY GOOD VERY HELPFULL
Review 92:BREAKFAST
Review 93:Stayed here on a hot summer night. My room was 40 degrees all night even with window wide open and ineffectual small fan on high. Walls were 'glowing' with heat. Far too hot to sleep. Room looked out onto back alley where delivery drivers started shouting at 6am. Don't stay here if you want a peaceful night and definitely not if it is at all warm outside! Management couldn't have cared less about customer comfort. Down at reception all was cool and breezy.
Review 94:Leaving the next morning!
Review 95:No bad experience but I wish that hotels would provide something other than instant Nescafe for the rooms, I've stayed in hotels where a cafetiere and fresh coffee are provided and this simple touch makes such a difference. Hardly a great criticism though.
Review 96:The location, the prompt friendly staff, nice refurbishment.
Review 97:Rooms were good , but need updating. Shower was small
Review 98:Staff were very good , food was good value . Hotel was very clean. Breakfast was the best I have had in any hotel I have been in.
Review 99:Some rooms dated Some rooms and corridors very hot
Review 100:Comfortable beds Ideal for seeing bands at the picturedome Executive double rooms amazing Food excellent
Review 101:the bedrooms did not meet same standard as downstairs and are in need of modernisation and a good tidy up. (informed this was planned by the lovely staff) Quite a "lively" town at night - not the best nights sleep we've had..
Review 102:The staff are brilliant! The bar and restaurant were excellent - food really good - dinner and breakfast downstairs has been refurbished
Review 103:Even though the room was small it was lovely and cosy. The bathroom was clean. Our room was next door to the music venue but didn't mind as our bed was so comfortable I went straight to sleep. We had a meal which is quite expensive but worth it.
Review 104:The only small downside is that the WiFi signal didn't reach our room and the TV signal kept going off
Review 105:Got upgraded to the executive suite which was lovely . comfy bed . breakfast was really good and great central position and very friendly staff.
Review 106:Rooms very warm. Had the balcony door open at night but no noise or problems
Review 107:Great location. Food was fine. Parking could be a problem if checking in late, but staff can offer alternatives.
Review 108:Holes in 2 of the walls. On 1 of the walls they have wall mounted lights of which one of the glass shades is missing so you could see the wires and the bulb. Addressed this with the Reception who said cleaners had not told her about this but she would send maintenance to the room to sort. Maintenance never turned up. Also room 24 is above the main toilets and right next to the side of the hotel building which is used as a short cut and the noise level is horrendous. You not only have the genral public cutting through but you hear the staff continously putting glass, rubbish in the main large bins and continous banging of the main back doors. The cleaners cupboards are also located next to room 24 so they generally meet and have loud conversations right outside room 24 whilst they are banging doors continously. When we where leaving the receptionist didn't even ask if we enjoyed our stay. In fact she couldn't even make eye contact with us but she was happy to take our money. There is also limited car parking spaces at the hotel and they have had the cheek to put a further 2 outdoor benches and tables which are taking up a further 2 car parking spaces. On some of the windows there are netted curtains which may i say have seen there day. They need to be changed.
Review 109:Nothing
Review 110:I was travelling with 5 friends and we all needed single rooms. This is challenging unless you just pay for a double on your own. The Inn has single rooms at the top of the building but they are tiny with dated decor. Even in May they were hot and stuffy because there is no proper ventilation system. The presence of electric fans in the cupboards suggests that this problem is even worse in summer. As clientele are taught to expect more for a budget price (by Premier Inns etc) the Old Bridge Inn will lose its edge against this competition unless its owners are prepared to invest in its future.
Review 111:The Old Bridge Inn is at the heart of pretty stone-built village Holmfirth, renowned for being the location of Last of the Summer Wine, a very successful UK comedy series about growing old disgracefully. Surrounded by wonderful countryside, it has a picturesque location by the river, with a period, preserved cinema next door. Public transport is on the doorstep or there is a very responsive taxi firm a phone call away. The Inn has its own bar and restaurant, with a good terrace at the front for those sunny days. The staff are friendly and efficient. The building has character but could do with refreshing in parts.
Review 112:Bathroom and Bedroom was just very dowdy due to floor covering in the bathroom, brown paint work plus brown nets!!
Review 113:Evening snack in the restaurant was very likewise with the Breakfast.
Review 114:The location is excellent, being right in the centre of Holmfirth and across from Sid's Café. There was parking right outside so we didn't have to worry about our rental car. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The room was bright and airy and adequate for 2 people. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the waiting staff were very friendly. All in all a great place to stay and eat. Would definitely think about going back for longer the next time.
Review 115:Room was a little bit on the small side, shower in bath arrangement a little tired, but these are minor criticisms
Review 116:Good location, friendly folk, good traditional pub
Review 117:Room too small for a double bed - couldn't open the door properly. Resident's told to drink up and leave at normal pub closing time - we have stayed here several times and this never used to happen. Of course they can stop serving when they like, but surely there should be somewhere for residents to sit and chat after hours, preferably while finishing their drinks? A typical example of doing up a pub and making it worse.
Review 118:location and breakfast both excellent
Review 119:the rooms are tired and dated.need a revamp like rest of hotel to bring it up to standard of rest of hotel.
Review 120:the restaurant and bar area was lovely.very busy sun.day afternoon due to cycle race.food was really good.staff friendly.
Review 121:Bar and restaurant looks as though they have had a makeover, but not the rooms/hotel hallway! Room was too hot.
Review 122:Staff friendly and professional. Restaurant nicely decorated and food good.
Review 123:Bedroom very small. Outside seating area wasnt cleaned after diners hadleft so it looked shabby
Review 124:The food & beer selection - good quality and great value for money.Great bar and restaurant area with nice outside seating
Review 125:Would be nice to have fruit salad , strawberries or light pudding options. Bathroom tired eg grouting and no towel rail.
Review 126:Nice staff, free parking , good choice main meals large portions, sunny terrace for drinks or food
Review 127:The floorboards and doors creak terribly which can make relaxing very difficult when people walk by or are in the room above or next door.
Review 128:Excellent food, great location and bottles of water.
Review 129:First room allocated was above the kitchen fans, which were louder than loud
Review 130:Excellent Breakfast Location good Majority of staff efficient and friendly
Review 131:not enough seats and tables in bar area does not no wether to be a cafe or a pub, bath was far too small even for use as shower
Review 132:nice view of river from room window
Review 133:We only ate in the hotel once in the evening simply because the food although not bad did not seem to live up to expectations. Some items on the menu that had descriptions that oversold the content and it was slightly expensive for what was served.
Review 134:The staff made you feel nothing was too much trouble and seemed genuinely friendly and interested in the guest.
Review 135:Insufficient places to sit comfortably to enjoy a drink pre and post dining.
Review 136:Excellent customer service and good food. Room adequate, bed clean and comfortable
Review 137:Only downside one towel between two and shower mechanism difficult to adjust maintain temperature
Review 138:we had a really nice time . Amazing atmosphere lovely clean rooms really helpful staff. Definitely recommend a stay
Review 139:For the price room was pokey. Only one uncomfortable chair. Very dim light in bathroom. Nowhere to hang towels. No air con so even in winter very warm in bedroom and dining room.
Review 140:Clean and adequate. Liked wifi. Breakfast excellent. Staff brilliant.
Review 141:The room we had seemed more like a single room with a double bed in it. Very small compared to some others. However the hotel was very busy so presumably the only room left. Did not detract from the stay.
Review 142:The location and the restaurant.
